New thread because our initial thread is about to max out.

For babies born around September 2014 - or just before for early arrivals and just after for late arrivals.

Hear hear to an easy life.

We also don't bother putting DS to bed in the evening. He only naps/dozes anyway so its never really occurred to me to put him in his bed. I don't really like him being out of my sight and I'm not terribly keen on the idea of a baby monitor at this stage.

I think I might be a little continental in my thinking that babies don't need to go to bed really early and they can just fit in, around evenings as much as during the day. We happily will take him out in the evenings and are trying to do so whilst he's still so portable.

I'm not really intending to put him to bed for at least another couple of months if this carries on. Basically until his co-sleeper is too small, when we have to have a bit of a rethink anyway.

This is probably against all advice there is, but its what feels right to us and he seems happy.

Acorncat · 04/12/2014 11:37

I don't have any sort of routine, during the day he just feeds and sleeps when he wants. I do try to get him to sleep if he's been awake for a couple of hours but its a struggle. At night he dozes from about 6 till 8 before having another feed then we both go to bed. His sleeping was getting better but now back to waking every 3 hours.

Nazly · 04/12/2014 12:11

Oh more photos xx love them all x

Kitkat I agree with Red, breast feeding is very hard to plan; I am similar to you, but then doctor told me to feed little and often for his reflux

Red I know what you mean. I had the exact same feeling a couple of weeks ago. Suddenly he started following me with his eyes and looking closely to see what I do, what I eat, and things I hold.

We go out alot but normally with a plan, going from home to x and coming back; yesterday I just went to the town with the pushchair with no plan, the first half hour he was sleeping but then when he woke up he was so interested in every thing, looking at each shop closely, looking at xmas trees, etc. It is so amusing to watch your baby discovering the world...

Nazly · 04/12/2014 12:18

Oh and I will miss watching him when he goes to nursery in a couple of months. He will discover the world without me :(

KitKat1985 · 04/12/2014 15:41

Oh Nazly when are you back at work? I'm trying to steadfastly bury my head in the sand about the whole thing, although I have to apply for Jessica's nursery place soon, but thankfully I'm not back for a long while yet.

Thanks for your words of support. You're right - I'm sure a routine will come in time. I have to remind myself sometimes that she isn't even quite 3 months old yet and maybe stop expecting so much from her.

In case I've forgotten to say for a while - you ladies are all fab. Grin

I have just got back from my work christmas lunch. Had to take A with me, and they were still asking when I was going back! Not sure my boss was too pleased with my 'still hoping to win the lottery so I don't have to' response Grin

I agree with letting baby fit around our life so long as it works but every baby is different, we put ds in bed because he clearly started to have long stretches of sleep from 8-9 and not before and staying up after makes him very grumpy. He sleeps 6-7 hours (well apart from the last two nights ) but from 8-9pm so that take us to around 3-5am for a feed, then back to sleep until 7-8am.
Something has happened last couple of nights and he is back on every 3-4 hours Confused

cookielove · 04/12/2014 20:19

Eli goes to bed at 10. We put him down at 7.00 tonight and he woke up before 8 screaming for a bottle.

Nazly · 04/12/2014 21:12

Kitkat I am going back to work when he is 6 months but currently debating if I should go part time only, as he is still so small. I don't know what I was thinking when telling my company my ML will be a short one; I did not know what a baby is and I undermined the emotional attachment which is bigger than all emotional attachments somebody can have in a way...

Btw When I read your post about that woman telling you off about your parenting style I got so angry I wrote a big answer for you in my mind, never got to actually write it though... You should have told here there are different school of thoughts in parenting styles and the 80s/90s one which she referred to (rigid routine, etc) is rejected by many in most recent years and some modern specialists think on demand method of parenting is best for baby development- you should have told her : "not that you would know of recent school of thoughts" !!! but following baby's demand it is also the more traditional method...

I would also tell her off for commenting on you going back to work; regardless of whether you "have to" or it is your choice... Many go back for financial reasons many for career or even personal reasons; if women would not tell off other women for their choices (whether it is staying home or going back yo work) we would all be in a better place today and could defend our right better- it is so difficult in the UK to be a mum and have a career ...it doesn't need to be this way though

Nazly · 04/12/2014 21:13

Oops sorry all! Got a bit carried away:) that woman is lucky she hasn't met meAngry I would put her off ever commenting negatively on these thongs again AngryAngry

is there a trend that the babies sleeping more than 8 hrs straight at night are napping frequently during the day as well?

FATEdestiny · 05/12/2014 09:32

I've always thought that the first three months of a babys life is all about sleeping and feeding and nothing much else. Discovering the world and 'playing' will come, but I don't work on that just yet.

I work on the assumption if baby isn't feeding then baby should be sleeping or trying to get to sleep.

There will be times in the day where this isn't correct and baby is clearly happy to be awake, but I wouldn't expect more than an hour once or twice a day. After an hour my DD would be ready to stat trying to go to sleep again.

CumbrianExile · 05/12/2014 09:59

A tries to fight sleep during the day, especially if we are at home. I have started putting him down in his cot in the afternoon so he at least gets one nap in the day. Although he will have 20 mins here and there in the bouncy chair. He sleep well if we are out and about though, especially in his pram!

FATEdestiny · 05/12/2014 10:07

I forget that because DD was born right at the end of September, most of the babies on here are older than she is.

BTW - Has anyone else noticed that their armpit/leg hair is growing more slowly then pre-baby? I don't know why, but I am sure I'm needing to shave less often.

jaykay34 · 05/12/2014 12:52

Fate When was your DD born ? My boy is September 23rd so quite late in September too.

He is pretty nosy now and looks at things in wonderment, and he doesn't really sleep much in the day (but never has). He's obsessed with looking at and chewing his hands...and sucks his fist.

In regards to sleep - he had a six hour block 2 nights ago, but yesterday he was constipated and we were back to the 3 hour blocks. His sleeping isn't worrying me to be honest, as when he wakes up he does go back to sleep easily.

How much does everyones little ones weigh ? J is 13lb at 10 weeks - so pretty much average, but still only 25th centile for height. He fits 0-3 clothes nicely...the bigger ones drown him (think its because of his height).

Acorncat · 05/12/2014 13:24

I do wonder if mine would sleep better at night if he slept more during the day, it's such a struggle though. 16lb2oz here at 12 weeks. 50th percentile for height, 91st for weight.

KitKat1985 · 05/12/2014 13:29

Ahh thank you for your support Nazly. I think to be honest she was just an over-opinionated bossy boots and I probably shouldn't have paid any attention to her! Smile Is there time for you to amend your return date to work if you don't feel happy going back after 6 months anymore? Could you talk to your manager? xx

Jaykay Jessica hasn't been weighed for a couple of weeks but she was 11lb5oz a couple of weeks ago (10 weeks) and she's 12 weeks now so I would think she's 12 pound something but hard to say. She's about 40-45th centile for weight but 60th for height and we had to bring out her 3- month clothes last weekend as her legs are too long now for her 0-3 stuff, even though a lot of her 3-6 month stuff is still a bit loose on her. xx

cookielove · 05/12/2014 13:35

Hello, jay Eli is 16 weeks but 10 weeks corrected! He was due on the 23rd of Sept! Born on the 13th August. I think he may be the most premature baby on this thread! Shock

He is 14lb 3 oz, 25th percentile, not sure about height as they never measure that! I don't even know what he was at birth Hmm

He mostly wakes once a night now usually around 3-4 but last night slept till 6.

He spends about 4hrs a day awake now!

Nazly · 05/12/2014 15:55

Cookie ds was born on 12th August but due 5th Sept so only 3.5weeks early; he is also 16 weeks but 12.5 corrected.
He was 17lb 8oz earlier this week , and like you say nobody measured his length even at birth but he is on 91 centile for weight
I will pack the 3-6m clothes this weekend and move to 6-9m ; I tried hard to get ds into 3-6 clothes for the past two weeks and now it is getting a struggle to fit him in many of them... Still can't believe how little we used newborn, 0-3 and 3-6m clothes!! I even bought him a party outfit for xmas in 3-6m size, very much doubt he will fit in it!!

FATEdestiny · 05/12/2014 19:01

My DD - Felicity - was born on 26th September so is 10 weeks now.

She was 13lb 0oz at 6 weeks, hasn't been weighed since then. Easily 15lb-16lb now I would guess. 91st percentile.

I suspect she has recently started not gaining weight so much and may be dropping percentiles, since she is choosing to feed less often. I suspect she is just finding her natural weight.

holls2000 · 05/12/2014 20:27

b is 13lb 13 and on 50th for height but has sprouted from 25th. he fights sleep during the day much more now and is much more alert. lots of fist munching and playing with his hands. he does (since this week) a 7 hr stretch at night then a 3/4hr and then goes down for about an hour before we get up at about 7. he is super smiley and today we took him to an xmas fair. he was in baby bjorn for the first time and slept for first 90mins then ate and was wide awake.

DH is at office party tonight. b clearly less settled tonight because hes not here.

Nazly · 05/12/2014 21:04

Stupid question ladies : would you wash bibs and muslins in 90 or 60 degrees? I wash everything in 40 for ds but recently I feel bibs are not clean - his multivitamin is yellow and he has yellow stains from that on two bibs which is alarming
