Well, cranial osteopath said she has some issues with her head and her belly. She slept for hours afterwards but that may be because she'd had so little in the night. She's now royally kicked off as usual, I don't know how I'll do a whole night again :(

Sympathy to everyone else, sounds like the stars were misaligned last night!!

caravela · 23/12/2014 00:12

Getting dd down is a pain every night. Our bedtime routine basically goes: masses of cluster feeding usually starting at whatever time I try to have my dinner, more cluster feeding while I watch tv, change dd into night things, accompanied by shrieking as she doesn't like it when they go over her head, then feed again to calm her down, and she will drop off some time between 11 and 1am. No chance of bedtime before 11 - not even worth trying. On the plus side, when she finally falls asleep she does want to stay asleep so she will go back down immediately after feeds, and she's starting to last a bit longer at night. One miraculous night she slept for 6 hours but that's not happened since, but we are getting stretches of 3-4 hours rather than 1-2. But the cluster feeding combined with longer nighttime gaps means I keep waking up with huge painful boobs...

Thisisimpossible · 23/12/2014 07:32

How was last night Ladydolly?

barmybunting · 23/12/2014 08:10

Sorry to hear about little ones having digestive troubles. It is so horrible to hear them in pain!

I hope everyone has a restful and gentle few days this week.

ladydolly · 23/12/2014 08:43

babydolly got a 5 hour stretch in from 11.30 - 4.30, took forever to settle after feeds but I think that could be down to the wind from the antibiotics I'm on. Less screaming though! Cautiously optimistic...

Annarose2014 · 23/12/2014 09:28

Relieved for you ladydolly

Our little lad had a better night. We gave him the Pepti formula all yesterday and I expressed & put in the freezer. No squirming whatsoever after that. He slept most of yesterday evening. Nappies have changed - even had a couple purely wet!

I BF all night though, for convenience. Went down in Moses basket. Slept till 4.30. A bit hard to settle after that feed, as was awake again, but I persevered and got him settled in the basket again by about 5.10. Not too bad.

Most importantly though he had a really good sleep. No squirming, no distress.

amy83firsttimer · 23/12/2014 09:34

Yay Annarose2014 that sounds promising.
We had very easy day yesterday, long naps both morning and afternoon. He fed all evening then went down 9.00 til 3.00, awake about 1.5 hrs to nappy, feed, settle then back down til 8.30. DH reckons he's gearing up for a growth spurt - it'll probably be Xmas day which at least means DH will have to do Xmas dinner!

barmybunting · 23/12/2014 12:03

What a difference a good night makes! Glad to hear so many stories of a happier night.

Amy, do they sleep more prior to a growth spurt? I was hoping it meant the spurt was done Smile.

Green poo has gone thankfully. She treated DH to a double round of vomit and PPP on him at 4am but seems fine this morning at least.

amy83firsttimer · 23/12/2014 12:35

DH said he noticed that he slept loads before his 10 day growth spurt. That's all I'm basing it on!

Strawberryfield12 · 23/12/2014 13:12

Glad for you both anna and ladydolly! Hopefully it is start towards better days.

Had hearing screening this morning and got clear response on both ears (alleluia!), also blood tests came back all clean, so I will just hold on to the good news when things get tough...

Strawberryfield12 · 23/12/2014 13:14

amy it looks like we are missing the calm and lots of sleep phase from the growth spurts. Only getting the odd days when she literally is hanging at the end of nipple all day long ...

ToniWol · 23/12/2014 13:58

Glad people are having better nights.

MiniWol has managed 3 nights on the trot going 6 hours between feeds on a night. Putting her down at around quarter to midnight and not being woken until five is bliss. Although to make up for it she was suffering from really bad trapped wind all day yesterday and tired us both out. Still feeling a little worn out so planning on going to bed at around 9 tonight and probably leaving her with DH until 11ish. She's catching up with her sleep now. Currently zonked out on my shoulder. Plus she's gained another 4ozs this week.

She's got some baby acne as well. Her face looks so bad with all the spots.

amy83firsttimer · 23/12/2014 14:14

Just had M weighed - 4 weeks old and gone from 10lb to 10lb 14oz! fat fuck

amy83firsttimer · 23/12/2014 15:05

... In a week.

caravela · 23/12/2014 16:21

Just when I thought the reflux had gone, we had another bad night. Dd was so upset and gave a little cry of relief when the infacol went in her mouth (she likes the sugary taste). Finally got her down at 1am but then she kept on wanting tiny feeds in the middle of the night which only kept her going an hour. DH is going to do the night shift tonight with a massive bottle of ebm cos I'm shattered!

ladydolly · 23/12/2014 19:45

Impressive amy, you must be producing the mars bar equivilent of breast milk.

babydolly started to get eggy at about 6 so bath, feed, cuddle and she's been asleep for about 20 mins. Hope to persevere with this routine/timing although expect a long slog.

Another week of antibiotics, c section wound still infected. Went to the docs in the car so carried babydolly since I'm not allowed to carry the car seat - not the smartest move given that I knew I'd have to lay down. Doc had examine me with one hand and hold 11lbs of babydolly with the other. oops!

Anyone else feel like xmas is passing them by, still in a baby bubble?

sigh I hear her stirring...

ToniWol · 23/12/2014 20:05

Lady - we've just opened and put the Christmas cards up today. DDs been fighting sleep ever since a mega-vomit earlier on. Tree went up on Sunday though. Christingle at church tomorrow then midnight mass.

happypotamus · 24/12/2014 00:39

I've just got into bed after several hours of present wrapping. Still plenty left to do so DH has offered to do some to my surprise. The wrapping would have gone better and faster if I hadn't had to do it whilst holding DD. I tried putting her down from time to time but it never lasted more than 10 mins. She has been very miserable today except she had lots of smiles for her big sister's return from pre-school and for DH's singing. She rarely smiles at me though. Tomorrow I will be mostly crossing my fingers that the last few gifts are delivered, finishing the wrapping, tidying up the house while dealing with overexcited 3yr old and unputdownable baby, then we are going to in-laws in the afternoon

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 24/12/2014 04:41

Another night of no sleep here prev night okish but tonight down at 8.30pm for 2hrs otherwise up feed fall asleep down in cot snuffle snuffle/reflux milk up n swallow it - snuffling n refluxing seem combined n linked.

Going to ask health visitor when she comes today about cmpi as ds has a tongue tie diagnosed at 1day n told by many professional in hospital he has one but as feeding well do nothing.

We have green mucusy poos here stringy with bits, no just wet nappies all poopy n about 9-12 in 24hrs, incredible stinky bottom wind, bring in up milk after feeds, extremely snuffly after feeds worse if laid down, frequent feeding (prob to settle discomforts), some screaming at breast latching pulling away relatching this is usually after a good feed n being settled in chair n then wanting a top up, in night all this waking feeds for 5-10mins n falls asleep as not really hungry n is tired n then repeats pattern.

Left breast is v painful nipple feels like razor blades cutting through when feeding despite good latch n have breast pain between feeds like a shooting nerve pain, right breast nipple can be sore, had treatment 2weeks ago for thrush n no kmpr so prob not that n baby def doesn't have thrush.

Baby is 5 weeks on Xmas day

As a children nurse and maternity night nanny I know the reflux is only mild and don't really want meds for it but the snuffly ness it's causing is meaning no sleep.

Crib tilted at 45 degrees n tried saline nose drops but makes no difference as nose not blocked.

Any ideas anyone?

WorkFreeWannabe · 24/12/2014 05:49

East, I've had a similar pain in my breast and found the symptoms were linked to Nipple Vasospasm (which the health visitor hasn't heard of). It's linked to the cold and probable if you also suffer with Raynauds or bad circulation. Anytime I get really cold the shooting pains appear.

I really wish Christmas would hurry up and go away!Angry. I'm absolutely shattered and still have loads to do. Was up til silly o'clock making Marmalade glazed ham forgetting I'll have to be up for a feed in less than an hour. Luckily DH took over and let me sleep.

Very irritable LO here tonight, I think he's having a growth spurt plus he's been passing pretty solid dirty nappies today and screams in agony whilst pushing it out. He spent a night at my mums over the weekend so I hope she hasn't given him something she shouldn't have or put extra scoops in his milk

Annarose2014 · 24/12/2014 10:04

eastmids DS was diagnosed with CMPI on Monday. There's been a BIG improvment but its mainly from the Aptimil Pepti formula I've been giving him during the last two days to calm down his system. I've been dairy free since, and only been BFing at night (expressing in daytime so far but would like to reintroduce) but then this morning at 7am after a night of BFing the terrible abdominal pain started.

So even though the GP told me that it takes two weeks to see a major improvement as it takes that long to vacate the body, I wonder if I should give up BFing altogether when the formula helps so much and BM seems to just add to the problem thus far. Sad Literally every time I BF I worry its going to cause an attack. I know logically I should just relax & keep at it for the two weeks though. I tend to overthink things!

Anyway, my particular lad had zero reflux. It was going down fine, but getting stuck in the lower intestine and causing terrible bloating and gas. No wet nappies atall just pooey ones. Awful acidic poos which scalded him (which have completely stopped, yay!) Near constant feeding to try to make himself fart/poo. Then of course he'd only feed for 5 mins at a time & only get foremilk. I suspect he had Lactose Overload as a result of that also.

I fed DS a bottle of formula at 8 & am trying to stick it out till 11 using the dummy so he feeds longer & deeper then. I'm also blockfeeding to try to get through to the hindmilk when I do BF. He just had a fart there with the dummy so hopefully it'll settle him.

Hope some of that helps. You could try going dairyfree yourself for 2 weeks to see?

ladydolly · 24/12/2014 10:14

We're back! Yes she screamed for an hour or 2, but then slept from 10.30 9.30 with feeds at 3.30, 6.30 and 9.30. An xmas miracle!!!

eastmids allergy? dairy?

Just waiting for 10 mins to load up dp's stocking and pre cook some veg for tomorrow and we're good to go!

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 24/12/2014 13:00

Hv just advised discuss with gp at 6wk check. I don't want to go dairy free I only have milk in tea which I need at the mo n butter on toast, choc, cake at mo I know that sounds selfish but I don't like dairy free alternatives.

Nappy rash just cleared was nasty red patches n cleared with thick layering of sudocream every change.

6weeks check on 2 Jan so will see how we get on til then.

Strawberryfield12 · 24/12/2014 14:44

On Monday I moaned how DD would not sit in rocking chair. Gave another go last night and she happily kicked away there for an hour or so. Yay!

And now have to confess into the big blond moment... Blush
The DD didn't sit in a chair because her mum hadn't set it up to the lowest degree so that the chair suits to newborns... Ahh... Nothing wrong at all with BabyBjorn chair design Wink

happypotamus · 24/12/2014 20:09

Merry Christmas everyone. Have a great day tomorrow and enjoy your baby's first Christmas.
