Hi ladies!

DD born 31/10, just starting to get used to having her here! I know I've been working up to it for 9 months but it's so surreal. We are on cloud 9!

Managing BF ok now my nipples have started to heal from the initial shock of my hungry monster. Is anyone else struggling with a windy baby? DD is really hard to wind and it's so tough during the early hours listening to her squirming with a windy tum :(

Hi all, I hope everyone is ok and not too sleep deprived. Congrats to all!
Same here Greenstone, weigh ins every other day. DS has finally gained 3 grams which has pleased the midwife. He is now having less formula but like your dd he struggles to keep formula top ups down. He is also the windiest little thing ( must get that from his dad). Hope she gains weight soon.

We also have weight issues here.

DD, 2nd Nov, 9lb 11oz

She was weighed yesterday at 5 days and had lost 9.3% of her body weight. The MW was actually quite encouraged by this as it was less than she was expecting her to lose.

I can't remember if up thread I explained that DD got a blue light xfer to a large NICU on her first night with a suspected gut blockage. That resulted in the consultant saying nil by mouth for the next 15 hours. Thankfully all the test results came back normal and then we had to gradually cut down on the glucose IV drip and start BF again. Not surprisingly DD has taken a while to get going with feeding and has been v v sleepy. Yesterday and today feel like she is feeding more and sleeping a bit less and the poos are getting more numerous (yay Wink). So I feel like things are going in the right direction. We are having a re weigh on Monday. Fingers crossed she won't have lost any more.

Hello :) congratulations on all the new babies Thanks

I wasn't part of the pregnancy thread but I was wondering if I could join you? I had a little (big) baby boy on Tuesday, he weighed close to 11 pounds so he feels huge, I had all the newborn clothes washed and lovingly folded away in his little chest of draws but they are all too small for him, he's currently in a 3-6 month babygrow.

Breastfeeding seems to be going ok, I'm still breastfeeding his big brother who is 21 months so I had milk right from birth so he was back to his birth weight by day 4.

The main problem we have at the moment is night time sleep, he will not sleep in his side car cot he wants to sleep on me, I have been managing to get half an hour here and there by swaddling him and giving him a dummy but I'd just a little more sleep!

Greenstone · 08/11/2014 20:29

Welcome stripy! Wow what a big boy, congrats Smile we have a side car cot which is now only being used to hold the carrycot from the travel system as weirdly dd seems to be able to pull off a couple of hours in there if swaddled in a muslin. I think we'll have to gradually work up to using the cot. It's so tiring sigh but I know it won't last forever.

God kantha that's so scary about your d's transfer, how did they come to that conclusion? Good that she's feeding better today. Dd has done nothing but feed sleep and wee/poo today but I'm very worried about tomorrow's weigh in - if she's dropped again I don't know what we'll do.

Greenstone - when DD was about 12 hours old she was sick and it was bright luminous green Shock. The MW came with a clean sheet and whisked her away to see the paediatrician and it went from there. The green was bile and apparently when babies vomit bile they take it very seriously. I think when it happened I wasn't that scared at the time because by that stage I had been up for 36 hours and was so tired I was more like, "oh right, do what you have to do". Probably shock and exhaustion really. I think within a few hours they were beginning to feel more confident that it wasn't going to be serious so I relaxed a bit too.

Hello Stripey. That's a big baby you have there Shock. My first baby was a 9lber (as is this one thinking about it) and I felt quite sad that he wasn't in newborn clothes for v long.

Hi guys
My gorgeous girl was born 7/11 at 320am weighing 7lb13, slightly less than 8lb5 predicted at growth scan.
Unfortunately, ended up needing forceps and lost a lot of blood afterwards so been in hospital since. Really hoping to get home today!

Due to blood loss, feeding has been a bit of a struggle but we're topping up with some formula until it comes in to make sure she's getting enough.
That's why I'm up at this time, waiting for little'un to wake up so I can do next feed (on 4 hourly at the moment) but she's still asleep with an hour to go until feed Grin
Really got the hang of breast feeding (both of us!) so just waiting for my milk.

Kantha that all sounds really scary, I'm glad the tests all came back normal. I hope the weigh in goes well on Monday.

Congratulations on the birth of your baby girl bumpoct Thanks I hope you get to go home today!

The baby actually slept last night!! I put a sheep skin in his cot and he slept 10.30-6 with 3 feeds and a poo explosion nappy but it felt amazing to actually sleep for more than 15/20 mins, previously he had refused to sleep unless on me or dp. I have read conflicting advice about sheep skins, some sources say it's ok to use until the baby can roll and some say not to use at all, hopefully we can start to wean him off it once he's got the idea of sleeping alone, at the moment it feels like a safer option than having exhausted parents trying to stay awake all night.

Wow that is a good size stripy. There are lots of good size babies on this thread, my ds seems teeny at 5lb 4oz. We had to buy a few tiny baby bits as I had only bought first month size clothes. My scan 5 days earlier estimated him to be in excess of 6 & 1/2 lbs at 37 weeks so wasn't expecting such a little chap. Having wind issues here too but so far none of it trapped. Several poo explosions though which have taken me by surprise!

I'm in two minds whether to share this here as I don't want to alarm anyone, but equally think it's good to make people aware of what can happen. So advance apologies if this upsets you.

I am currently sat in children's A&E after I walked into DDs room this afternoon to find her blue round the mouth having been sick and choked on it Sad. She had been by herself for 5 mins whilst I was called downstairs to deal with a misbehaving DS2. We got her normal, breathing and eyes open within a few minutes and called 999 at the same time. She then got her second ambulance ride of her life (at 7 days). She has been checked out by the drs. They are pretty confident it was a one off accident, but are observing us till 9pm.

Honestly I have never had any drama like this with my other children. I had never been in an ambulance myself until today Not sure how my nerves are going to handle having such a drama queen. WithWine possibly.

In more upbeat news, DD has done her first 3 (massive) korma poos since we arrived at A&E. I feel that feeding may be going better.

How terrifying kantha :( that must have been really scary for you. Did you get home last night? Hopefully that is all the drama over now for the next 18 years!

Stripeybaby's cord stump fell off yesterday and there is some puss and a horrid smell coming from his belly button so we are going to see the HV first thing. I'm up so early because of my cheeky toddler! The baby is sleeping peacefully but we made the mistake of telling ds1 that we'd go to playgroup today so he was up at 5 saying "go out, playgroup" he wouldn't go back to sleep and playgroup doesn't open for another 4 hours zzzz.

Thanks for your messages.

We stayed at hospital until 9pm on hourly obs which were all normal so they were happy for us to go home. I was so tired that despite wondering if I would be able to, I slept pretty well (or as well as anyone does with a newborn) and DD seems fine. In fact she is feeding and pooing really well. I am hoping that when the MW comes to weigh her later on she won't have dropped anymore weight. Not sure how I could feed her more if she has.

Kantha. So sorry to hear about this fright you got. Thank you for sharing it though, it's good to remember that this stuff can happen. Try to rest today! Thanks

Dd ' s weight was climbing in the right direction at last weigh - in and MW was happy...so relieved. She'll still be getting weighed regularly but like you kantha I've been feeding so often and nappies have been so reassuring that I'm hopeful she's turned a corner. MW also told me that it was ok to leave her up to 4 hours overnight occasionally if she didn't wake herself, considering how often she is feeding by day..She said we'd all feel better from the extra bit of rest! Last night dd slept in our bed all night, which kept her settled for longer, and I do actually feel more rested today.

Time for.Brew, anyone else?

Hi everyone can I join? I was on the antenatal threat way back but then it moved too fast for me to keep up with.

DD (first DC) was born on 5th November weighing just over 7lbs. I was really lucky to have a quick labour (less than 4 hours) and minimal tearing, and we came home from hospital on Thursday night. She's a pretty placid little thing and no major issues so far, but it's a big relief now we've both worked out how to breastfeed and my my milk is in and she's able to go a couple of hours between feeds. I never thought I'd think 2 hours consecutive sleep was a long time!

Greenstone · 10/11/2014 18:39

Welcome and congrats caravela Smile glad all seems to be going well with your dd!

I'm bleeding a bit heavily again today after only light bleeding the last few days. Is that normal for ten days post birth? Can't remember!

winter- is it definitely wind causing the pain, or could it be reflux? Have a look at the third to last post on this link (by yellowwellies) www.mumsnet.com/Talk/postnatal_clubs/2220229-October-2014-thread-2-keeping-each-other-company-through-the-night-feeds?pg=24

I lurked on Nov antenatal thread but DS ended up arriving mid October.

Greenstone - my blood loss has increased this week compared to last. I have a feeling it's normal but so haven't checked.

DD was reweighed on Monday and has gained 35g, so we're all pleased with that.Smile
