Oh, and DP has a stinking cold. Keeping everything crossed DS and I don't get it after reading recent posts.

Strawberryfield12 · 16/12/2014 21:25

Has been a manic day here, DD has been crying for BF all day, fall asleep while feeding, but as soon as I would put down for nap, would start to cry and ask for feed again. So all day... I have sore nipples now, got the bottle with newborn milk out as it feels like nipples are all bruised.
DH now trying to calm her down and get to sleep. Fingers crossed for the night ahead...
HV visit yesterday and DD in 11 days age was well over her birth weight. She better be, especially after today's feeding nightmare....

amy83firsttimer · 16/12/2014 21:50

That sounds very much like day 10 growth spurt to me! Good luck for tonight - nipple cream at the ready?

Strawberryfield12 · 16/12/2014 23:20

amy Lansinoh is on in a thick coat and emergency bottle prepared, just in case I give up at some point during the night. It just feels the breasts are aching, she probably has suck me out completely dry.
She is asleep in her crib at the moment, hope it lasts for some time. During the day she only slept when held in hands. God, looks so cute when quiet and asleep...

catg83 · 17/12/2014 07:14

Morning all.

Found a local BIBS group to go to yesterday. A midwife checked my latch and told me everything was fine and that I was doing the right thing continuing trying the underarm hold. Which is all well and good but my back can't take holding him like that all the time. And during the night we seem to have reverted to really bloody painful latch. This is so frustrating. I could scream. x

Strawberryfield12 · 17/12/2014 08:23

Oh cat, hope it sorts out itself soon x

DD had a very good sleep tonight, only woke up at 2am and 5am for feeds. The problem is that after yesterday's frantic feed I have hyper supply over night, but she would not feed all what is produced. So I have two bricks instead of breasts and have been leaking like mad. Nightie had two massive stains from breasts to the waist. It's been the first time I have leaked never mind those quantities.

moggle · 17/12/2014 09:06

catg when I was relying on the rugby hold to save my poor nipples I used pillows stacked up next to me to support DD then all I needed was my hand to stop her rolling off (!) rather than take her weight. Worked best when on the sofa and pillows were between me and arm of sofa, then she couldn't roll anywhere!

Annarose2014 · 17/12/2014 10:49

cat have you tried nipple shields to spare you? They're easier to latch on to also.

I was right not to trust my amazing previous night - a feed every two hours last night! And every hour so far today!

How can one child feed so much?! DH is like "It can't always be a bloody growth spurt!"

Annarose2014 · 17/12/2014 10:52

Oh and have scratches all over my chest from Tiny Fingernails of Hell. I seem to have to trim them every three days or I'm shredded!

catg83 · 17/12/2014 10:58

anna I think that may be the plan yo buy some shields at the weekend. I don't want to confuse him as he has only had boob and is only 19 days old but if the choice is stopping feeding or Nipple shields the shields will win!
moggle I think that is what i am having to rely on. The midwife yesterday was talking about him not being abke to pull away with all the pillows but to be honest. I am so aware of him feeding as soon as he moves to fluttery draws and then finishes I know.

strawberry Thanks. It is very therapeutic to be able to rant on here. Grin

Just had a lovely 2 hr nap while mum had him downstairs. He didn't stir from when I put him down but it is nice to be able to rely on someone else to pick him up if he needs it. Allows much deeper sleep I think.

Greenstone · 17/12/2014 11:05

Anna glad I'm not alone with the frequent daytime feeds, every 1 or 1.5 hours by day here. Can get 2 hours space in the afternoon if I have her in the sling. She is doing a few hours sleep at night so it's ok, but I can't see her doing 4 hours in a row anytime soon. After Christmas we're going to start a proper bedtime routine but no point before.

Thanks amy didn't even know that helpline existed! Did you sort the docs/prescription out?

Annarose2014 · 17/12/2014 12:15

Yeah I'm starting to thnk bedtime routine, but realistically it'll be a few weeks yet. At the moment just trying to recognise some of his natural patterns and exploit them.

Greenstone · 17/12/2014 12:18

Same here Anna. Mine is actually quieter in the evening but a demon in afternoon, so that might be workable when the time comes!

ladydolly · 17/12/2014 13:09

will you guys use any sleep training programs?

at the moment I feel blessed that she only wakes twice and goes straight back down but she doesn't self soothe and doesn't go down until 10/11/midnight.

moggle · 17/12/2014 13:28

We're also going to use the week after Xmas to start putting DD down in the evening upstairs instead of her being downstairs with us, and starting a bedtime routine. Don't think we'll be doing any kind of sleep training, will still be bf on demand and soothing her in whatever way works, but think I will be trying to move her last feed forward a bit so it's done by 11 instead of midnight.
She's already starting to drop the evening cluster feeding and sleeping more at this time of day, so I'm hoping she'll be ok with our plans...

Took her to the weighing clinic today and she's 9lb8, so put on 2lb7 since birth 5 weeks ago. Need to get out the 0-3 clothes!

Greenstone · 17/12/2014 13:46

No sleep training no, unless you're lucky with a good sleeper, small babies just wake in the night and that's it, ime trying to train it out of them before they're ready leads to huge stress. It's more about a wind down ritual so they.know that there's such thing as bedtime Smile and will hopefully do good stretches between feeds.

Moggle I was thinking I need to get out the 0-3 clothes as the upto 1mth sleepsuits are getting too small , newborn clothes like dunagrees still fit. J is 4weeks tommorow was 10lb 2oz at 2.5weeks I am guessing about 11lb plus now as was 8lb 10 at birth dropped to 8lb 5 and at 10days was 9lb n wk later 10lb 2!!!

We had an ok night last night few 2hr sleeps n a couple 1hr sleeps.

Routine wise we try to get him down for 7-8pm in crib but sometimes ends up downstairs in swinging chair (graco sweetpeace) without swing on though as this is when I try n catch up on some sleep and hope he has 90mins at least I then feed him downstairs with husband if before 10pm so we spend an hr together.

Annarose2014 · 17/12/2014 14:44

Oh God, is mine the only one in 3-6 month clothes??! He still fits the odd 0-3, but barely! We've retired most of them. He's about 10.5 lbs at 5 wks, and has looooooong legs.

amy83firsttimer · 17/12/2014 14:52

Yes sorted meds by about 8.30 last night - administered first dose to M. It did NOT go well! Projectile vomit EVERYWHERE! Oops. Going to do smaller doses as sensibly enough the individual dose is the same for a baby as an adult Confused.

happypotamus · 17/12/2014 16:16

Bedtime routine??!!! DD still will not sleep anywhere except on or right next to me so I can't see that happening anytime soon. The longest she has slept in the Moses basket is about 20mins. I think with DD1 we started a bedtime routine and putting her to bed rather than her staying downstairs until I went to bed at about 3 months. Don't know about starting then with DD2, as DH is going to have chest surgery at the end of January. He will be in London (we live hours away from London) for who knows how long depending on recovery time, then at home recovering for several weeks. So, it will be just me looking after the girls (and him). I don't drive, and will have to manage getting DD1 to pre-school, which takes ages because the bus stop is a long walk and she only walks v ery slow, and the food shopping with the pram as well as all the childcare, including DD1 who only ever wants her daddy to do anything for her. I am dreading it. Tonight he is going out after work so I have to do dinner/ bath/bedtime by myself, that will be bad enough!

ladydolly · 17/12/2014 17:01

I guess its just the bedtime routine I'm wondering about. Right now the routine is just 'cry on mummy, cry on daddy, repeat until exhausted'

Annarose2014 · 17/12/2014 17:10

Fair play to all of you who bath them every night - we do it about twice a week at present. I use babywipes on him the rest of the time. slovenly mummy

ToniWol · 17/12/2014 17:16

Bedtime routine for us is last feed (usually with a change/popped into sleeping bag between breasts) before I go to bed in the bedroom with just the nightlight on. DD will usually fall asleep on my shoulder after the feed and then I'm able to put her in the Moses basket once she's in a deep enough sleep. We didn't do this last Saturday and she just wouldn't settle. She's settled into a routine of demanding feeds roughly 3 hourly during the day, but she'll go for 4 hours between feeds during the night

ladydolly · 17/12/2014 18:44

anna dd is 4 weeks on friday and has had 4 baths so far and 2 of those were because she crapped herself from neck to ankle.
