Strawberryfield12 · 14/12/2014 04:37

amy yup. DD just let the nipple go with a low grunt of "ehhh!" you would normally expect an old guy with moustache doing in a pub after a big gulp of beer Hmm.

amy83firsttimer · 14/12/2014 04:42

Haha. M fell asleep and delatched all at once so I popped him into moses basket and now he's whining and fighting against sleep. Little sod.

ladydolly · 14/12/2014 04:56

The amount of old man noises dd makes. Also sounds often like a hungry dog.

Doesn't want the other boob. Doesn't want to sleep. I'm on here while she grunts and snuffles and wriggles around. Eventually she'll realise shes hungry and have a tantrum.

ladydolly · 14/12/2014 05:55

Still up....

Strawberryfield12 · 14/12/2014 07:23

Again up :)

ladydolly · 14/12/2014 10:48

She passed out just after 6. Trying to tell dp that a 3 week old that sleeps midnight to 10am with one 2hr wake up is a miracle but he thinks its awful!!

ToniWol · 14/12/2014 13:41

We were up all night. MiniWol decided that sleep was for wimps and we eventually dropped off after a 5am feed with her on my shoulder. Managed to get her in the Moses basket at about 6.30 and slept til about 8.

Thehedgehogsong · 14/12/2014 16:18

Hope everyone is getting daytime naps to make up for the bad nights! Sleep deprivation is a form of torture for a reason... dd2 wakes almost every hour in the night for a feed but she is 11lbs so she has got a size to maintain! My 4yo dd1 is pretty intense in the day so I am surviving on chocolate and tiny 5 min naps snatched whenever I can! Zzzz...

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 14/12/2014 16:36

We are still v hit n miss at night and have 3hrs in middle of night where we feed fall asleep lay in crib wake up feed again n repeat n sometimes just nosey around. He is down for 7-8pm sometimes in swinging baby seat downstairs with husband n sleeps 1.5-2hrs and I go to bed n come down feed him again for an hr or so n then get him down n he will sleep again 1-2hrs and then we have the 3hr waking n then usually 30-45min sleeps between feeds n awake at 6.30am n has been sleeping from 7.15 for an hr or so which I sleep too however as of tommorow I am on my own so will be up getting ready to take ds1 to school!! Hoping for a big daytime nap :)

Drove for first time today 3weeks n 3 days post section and was fine, harder lifting car seat in n out of car but will have to do tommorow n glad we have a stokke as nice n high so no major lifting of seat from frame to car n have an isofix base and just put ds1 into high back booster so he can do own seatbelt.

One more week of school then school hols so no daytime nap for me :(

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 14/12/2014 16:38

Hedgehog my little one was 10lb 2 last Tue and is prob 11lb now and I guess this is why he feeds loads n loads

ladydolly · 14/12/2014 20:48

question: (possibly a daft one) What do you all do with your lo's during the day? I mean physically what do you do with them? Up until now I've held her most of the time unless she's in deep sleep when I put her in her basket but I'm not getting anything done! I've got a fancy swing which she hates. A bouncer and a beanbag which she'll tolerate for 10 minutes or so. She likes to be sat up/upright, because she's both nosy and windy. I'm thinking about a playnest and/or playmat. I've not paid for the others so don't feel bad about trying them all out so far...

Greenstone · 14/12/2014 21:51

Sling pram or car seat here when I'm not holding her. Mine tolerates the bouncer or swing chair for about 30 seconds before screaming to get out. Have you got a good sling?

OP posts:
moggle · 14/12/2014 22:09

DD will increasingly lie in the moses basket or on the floor when awake, kicking and looking around at things, especially lights. So I can pop her down for 10-15 mins at a time when she's awake, which is awesome, before she starts whinging, or falls asleep. Otherwise if she's awake one of us is usually holding her. She will also sit staring at the TV for ages - currently watching X factor... I'm sure it's something we'll have to discourage at some point, but if it distracts her from the evening cluster feeding I'm all for it at the moment!

She goes in the sling around the house if I really HAVE to get something done, but I find that when I take her out of the sling she usually wakes up and cries, and won't be settled, so I usually use it when it's nearly feed time anyway, or I can leave her in the sling for ages.

She has a swing which she is ambivalent about, the playmat / gym thingy is not interesting enough yet, but today we picked up a babybjorn bouncer from an ebay seller and she is loving it so far! Hoping it's going to help us be able to eat dinner in peace!

weeonion · 14/12/2014 22:41

Evening all. Sorry to hear our woes but well done to all of us who are getting through and getting by.

dd2 loves her swing chair and will spend about 30 mins in it - often having a sleep. I give her lots of nappy free time on a changing mat with a towel. She also has a bouncy chair with lights etc but she is particularly into the Xmas tree so when I need to get something done - she gets parked beside it.

how long are yr wee ones napping for through the day? She used to sleep for 2-3 hours s time but now we are lucky if she sleeps for 30 - 45
mins each time? She will sleep in wrap or buggy if we are out n about.

we have another green poo-er here. HV was worried which stressed me but as dd2 is gaining steadily, I am relaxing about it. I know it is probably linked to my oversupply but we are working on that. apparently excessive wright gain can be linked with it too.

I look at dd2 and can't believe how big she is getting and has lost the newborn look. I also can't quite believe she is here - its all a bit weird and still takes me by surprise.

anyone else boobs fluctuating wildly in size. I have mixed days with a D or DD or E or F cup. I have spent a fortune on new bras to deal with this
argh, I wish they would settle to one size...

you all excited about Xmas with the little ones?? Grin

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 15/12/2014 02:19

Weeonion yep my boobs fluctuate in sz n have mostly worn sleep nursing bras even in day I have some nice white Emma Jayne one's n only worn proper bra if going out n will need to feed as the sleep bras obv expose whole boob n normal ones have just a small hole for feeding.

TwigletFiend · 15/12/2014 03:28

Am up feeding so thought id catch up with you lovely ladies!

During the day DD rotates between being held, playmat, swing and she has a thing I call her snuggy, which is an inflatable ring with a soft piece of fabric stretched over it to make a kind of round hammock thing in the middle. She also loves the TV because of the lights and noise, so she will lie for about twenty minutes at a time watching it before she starts to squawk again normally.

She sleeps about 1.5-2 hours at a time on a normal day, but pram or car seat tends to put her into a deeper sleep. Went up the road to a local Xmas market yesterday and she slept happily in the pram the whole time we were walking around.

This is the first time she's been up tonight - I had 5 hours of solid sleep! Shock However, it did mean that I have woken up with boobs like rocks. Mine don't fluctuate that much in size, but they do seem to fill up very very fast. I also slept on my side a couple of nights ago and woke up to the 'bottom' boob having filled much more than the top one. I sat up and milk sprayed out at such pressure that it hit the end of the bed! DP was in hysterics.

Still having wind problems for poor DD. Side sleeping she hated marginally less than back sleeping, but she still woke up and howled within 5 minutes of being put down. ARGH! Do they grow out of wind at all?

caravela · 15/12/2014 04:00

I'm having wind/reflux problems too. Dd falls asleep nicely after night feeds but when I put her down within a few minutes she starts groaning and wheezing and wakes up in distress. On Thuraday night she was in so much distress that no one slept all night and I took her to see the doctor, but he said that since she's gaining weight and feeding well, from a medical perspective it's not a big deal, just a phase that will pass. Infacol helps a bit but she still suffers when she goes down on her back. Might try the side sleeping and see if that helps.

utopian99 · 15/12/2014 04:05

Eventually, twiglet - no phase last forever, but hard to predict.

We've gone from what I'd count as okay sleep to hideous. I've gone from struggling to accepting through sheer tiredness and now to annoyance. He sleeps a couple of hours straight at the start of the nights, then up every hour till 7am after that. It's not his fault, I know that, but it's making me feel really pissed off. Dh wants to help but there's no obvious solution and he has work in the morning..

TwigletFiend · 15/12/2014 04:09

Utterly sympathise, cara - DD up again within 5 minutes of being put down, now feeding again, had nappy changed, will probably fall asleep on the boob shortly then whole cycle will repeat.

Utopian, at least your DH gets points for wanting to help. DP is yet to do a single night feed or change and sleeps through her crying 9 times out of 10, even when she's really going for it! Shock

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 15/12/2014 06:01

With wind n reflux as a night nanny I would recommend colief as this is evidence based to work, infacol has no evidence base n doesn't work for all n takes a 5 day build up to have full effect if any. Also under top end end of cot or crib or Moses basket pop an argos catalogue under each leg to tilt it slightly.

As a qualified children nurse we had severe reflux babies in on ward n used tilting cots but propping up ends does the same.

Never ever put anything under head or mattress to tilt.

Ds is pretty snuffly all the time but last night more so n suspect a cold on way as dh n ds1 have one at the moment.

However we have slept better down at 7.30pm up at 9.30pm..... down at 10.15pm up at 12.30am.... down at 1am n up at 2am.... down at 2.30am n up at 4am.... down at 4.15 n up at 5.30am n having a mega feed now.

happypotamus · 15/12/2014 07:35

DD will sometimes sit in her bouncy chair or car seat for several minutes but not usually and especially not if I really need to get something done. She will tolerate the play mat for just a couple of minutes. She is happier for longer when her big sister is here to distract and entertain her when she isn't being held. DD1 isn't here today, and I need to get housework done (as she is out with relatives who will be bringing her back this evening) and start sorting out Christmas. Need to write cards and do some panic buying on the Internet.

ToniWol · 15/12/2014 07:48

BF ladies with windy babies. I can recommend fennel and camomile teas. I've been drinking both for a week or so and DDs wind has been much better since.

She mostly spends her days in my arms or the pram carrycot on the sofa. Although we do have a jungle gym mat for energetic moments, and we bought a bouncy chair at the weekend for her.

We've discovered a little bit of a bedtime routine works for us. If her lady feed before settling is in the bedroom with just the nightlight on she'll only tend to wake once, going about 4/4.5 hours between feeds. If we don't she's likely to stay awake as long possible Shock

We tried her in a sleeping bag last night for the first time. It seemed to work, although it's only a 1 tog as she's a very warm soul.

It's amazing how she's changing though, and how we're learning all about each other.

pinkgirlythoughts · 15/12/2014 09:09

Had a five hour stretch of sleep last night (yay!) which was then slightly spoilt by being awake for 2.5 hours (boo!). I think it was caused by wind, as he kept falling asleep, but then waking up quite quickly once he was laid down, and being very wriggly. This boy does not like giving up his burps, but then he suffers for it later!

Annarose2014 · 15/12/2014 11:19

Yesterday I had the best day yet since he's been born. Long stretches of sleep, interspersed with calm feeding (& lots of shitty nappies). Then miraculously, he went to sleep in the Moses basket down with us at 8.30pm and slept all evening!

We were able to watch more Breaking Bad uninterrupted! (Only two eps to go, & things are getting dreadful)

Then we went upstairs around 10, he unsuprisingly woke, but had settled again by half past and slept till 2.30!

HALLELUJAH!!!

Of course after 2.30 it went down the pan, as he proceeded to grizzle loudly in his sleep for the rest of the night. I don't know whats going on there. He's not hungry and if it was wind he'd roar. Yet he has his eyes closed and seems to be asleep, just moaning and groaning fit to wake the dead and I can't sleep!

I snuggle up to him and he quietens down, but half an hour later he's moaning again. WTF??

amy83firsttimer · 15/12/2014 12:45

Getting a bit fed up of fussy evenings with constant cycles of latch, nurse for 30 secs, delatch, cry, arch back, burp (or not) , repeat. He does eventually get fed and sleep for up to 4 hours at a time but it's draining getting there. Just had a quick peek round kellymom and it reckons there's a 2-3 week growth spurt which would kind of tie in as he's 3 weeks today.

On a positive note he now officially exists as DH registered him this morning.
