Welcome ark congratulations. Well done. Wine

anna bugger. That doesn't sound good. Look after yourself.

Had the inlaws down. They were very well behaved. Even bought some cake with them. I was really worried about visitors etc before he arrived but now it is just lovely seeing how much he is loved. x

ladydolly · 09/12/2014 16:13

excited I didn't have anything from my wound but I can't really see it, its under the hideous apron of skin...

thisis my nipples were SO painful for the first week or so and yep, lanisoh, NON STOP, even if I just got up for a wee I'd whack some on. It will pass.

anna fuckery indeed, I hope it gets properly sorted this time.

took dd into work today, lots of love and fuss of her, it was nice showing her off actually.

Annarose2014 · 09/12/2014 17:11

DH has brought home wine. Fuck it, I'm having a glass. Or two. To go with my Difene for my poor sore fanjo.

Congrats ark! Every day will be a feeding marathon from now on - just roll with it! Its insane!

pinkgirlythoughts · 09/12/2014 17:33

Cheers, Anna! Wine

Regarding lochia, I've switched to pantyliners as of yesterday- DS was 3 weeks 1 day. Partly because I was getting more and more itchy using sanitary towels, on Sunday night I felt as sore down there as I did on the day I had him, and when I had a look with a mirror, I'd made my stitches bleed :( Since changing to liners, I feel much more normal.

Awful night last night. DH had gone to bed early complaining of feeling ill, and was burning up all night, with that horrible ill-smelling breath that you get with a bad sore throat. I was feeding DS facing away from him, to try and stop either of us breathing in his germs. Then DS1 wet the bed in the middle of the night, sheets absolutely sodden, so DH told him to get in our bed. I was so worried about the boys getting ill I ended up laying dressing gowns on DS1's bed and taking both of them into his room, leaving DH to his poorliness. Quite a squeeze trying to feed DS2 lying down, with a wriggly 3 year old also in the bed!

pinkgirlythoughts · 09/12/2014 17:35

Also got the shock of my life in the morning when I woke up and DS was in the moses basket next to me, laid face down! God knows how he'd managed to roll himself over, will have to see if he does it again tonight Confused

utopian99 · 09/12/2014 20:09

Pinkgirly A has somehow managed that too - god knows how. It's slightly terrifying, although with ds1 he was much happier on his front as soon as he could roll himself..

anna sorry about the news... Sad

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 10/12/2014 00:12

Had to take ds to hospital for bloods due to prolonged jaundice was weird as was back on ward I worked on 11yrs ago n hadn't been back - not nice having baby bloods done although did bf him while being done one part of nursing on a ward I don't miss. Get results in 3weeks it's lots tests and rare for anything to be wrong.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 10/12/2014 00:15

Oh n from being 9lb at 12days old last Tue a full week later at 19 days we are 10lb 2oz no wonder up all night feeding and I am a stone under pre pregnancy weight despite eating 3 times as much as normal (I didn't with ds1 and lots far too much weight so have eaten lots choc, cake, crisps this time :) )

excitedforbaba · 10/12/2014 03:38

Lady I'm the same I can't see it under my new overhang! so poor dp gets the attractive job of looking at it and making sure its dry etc

Are many of you formula feeding? We are and struggling with wind, she doesn't cry in pain but her eyes be rolling and you can hear the wind gurgling in her throat

catg83 · 10/12/2014 05:16

east - hope the results come back ok for you.

pinkgirly - that must have been surreal walking up to that.

OH back at work tomorrow which I am not looking forward to but my mum is coming to stay for 10 days as an extra pair of hands. Grin Now to see if we don't kill each other!

moggle · 10/12/2014 07:32

YAY! DD took the pumped bottle overnight from DH, I slept in the spare room and got 7 hrs sleep!! Woken by rock hard boobs so downstairs pumping now so she has a chance of latching on later!

Thisisimpossible · 10/12/2014 07:33

anna I'm off to buy a breast pump today Smile Rotten news about your impending hospital visit Sad I hope your glass of wine took the edge off it all last night. I have to see the consultant about my fanjo tomorrow. I had a tear up the left side of my clitoris which I refused to let them stitch at the time because I just couldn't face it after having the other stitches done. Had I realised it would result in a massive scaffolding fail and the pain it has caused I might have thought differently at the time. I am gutted about it and you have every sympathy from me because IMO there is nothing worse than pain and discomfort down there.

and to all of you who also suggested Lansinoh Boots had a 3 for 2 on it a few days ago so I have tons of the stuff. I don't know how I would have coped without it.

moggle I really sympathise about the crying before each feed. DP came home with breast shells a few days ago and I've been using them ..amidst much hilarity about how they make my boobs look Grin

Thisisimpossible · 10/12/2014 07:34

It's good to be back - I've missed you lovely ladies loads Smile

moggle · 10/12/2014 07:44

east - that's quite a long time to wait - at least you know his feeding is going well :-)
anna how was the wine? Big bums about having to go back to hospital :-(

We have to go to hospital today for DD to have a hearing test done as the HV didn't manage to finish it either time she came as DD was too noisy! Sure everythings ok though, dh did a massive sneeze behind her yesterday and she jumped and then started crying :-)

Greenstone · 10/12/2014 08:44

Agree that it's a long time to wait east for test results? When dd was losing weight at a week old we got blood tests done in hospital and got the results back in about an hour Confused

Sorry about the fanjo issues for people. My worry is that I have a mild prolapse. I didn't have any tearing or stitches which was very lucky but just have that heavy feeling. 6 week check tomorrow so I will have to ask about it

moggle -beyond jealous at your sleep. We're getting worse here not better. I'm pretty sure dd has reflux but not sure what kind of meds if any can help, or if I need to just wait it out.for her to get older. Another awful sleep anyway. I wish Co sleeping worked for us but it doesn't - dd2 only does 2 hours max in bed with me and also over feeds and then pukes or gets full of wind.

Is it stormy where ye are? Very stormy here and I'm going to be stuck in the house all day with a nearly 3 year old and a nearly 6 week old. Help.

Annarose2014 · 10/12/2014 10:19

Greenstone Infant Gaviscon is the thing, I believe. Its what they give on a Paediatric ward I briefly worked on for reflux. Meant to be brilliant.

DH laughs at me that every day I try something new to sort out the breastfeeding. Still block feeding, but last night instead of expressing the engorged side when I switch, I tried nipple shields to slow the flow. Seemed to work actually, he wasn't distressed feeding and we had a pretty easy night.

Only thing is I find them messy. Milk seems to leak out from every side so you have to hold a muslin underneath and it gets drenched. But will try anything at this stage!

thisisimpossible OUCH! God, they don't mention this stuff in the antenatal classes, do they?!

ladydolly · 10/12/2014 12:19

anna I'm keenly following your bf adventures since I'm a fast flow lady too. I've been expressing before the late evening feed since thats the one she stresses out with and then filling her up with a couple of syringes of my expressed milk once she does start to wig out. It does work, she only wakes up twice between 11 and 9/10 for a feed but it does seem like a bloody faff and of course she feeds approx 1 million times a day to make up for less night feeds.
Tackling the wind she gets from gulping it down with infacol with limited success. Gripe water seems to bring it up better.

Annarose2014 · 10/12/2014 15:56

Can you use a bottle rather than syringes? Just cos it makes it easier long term if they're happy to take a bottle it makes life more flexible.

I'm currently stuck in a hospital waiting room since 2pm - I knew it'd be a long wait so I left Baby at home with DH & a stash of EBM. I'm still nowhere near ready to BF in public until our issues are sorted out. It's still so noisy & messy! So thank God for bottles.

Infacol wasn't anything special for us either. We got Dentinox which is much better. I've been waiting for the 4 week point before trying gripe water but we might not need to now.

ladydolly · 10/12/2014 17:07

She won't take a bottle once she gets wound up so we're trying to get her used to it when she's happier and that might be the way forward.

Good luck, life will be easier when you can feed in public.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 10/12/2014 18:02

Night time here is still long n feeding loads usually asleep for 7.30pm for 1-2hrs then up for an hr or so with me trying to get as much milk in as wind up n then settles usually for an hr sometimes 2 but rare and then we have 2-3hrs where he feeds reasonable amount falls asleep goes down wakes 20mins later with wind feeds again falls asleep after few mins I change nappy to wake feeds a bit more but not enough as sleepy back down up again all in 10-20min periods n generally around 4am will sleep for an hr then feed n sleep again for an hr, always awake for 6.30/7am n then goes back down at 7.30ish for 1-2hrs which US great but next week I will have to take ds1 to school so no going back to bed for me.

3weeks old tomorrow and from experience I know this passes its just hard going although school hols after nxt week which means no daytime sleep for me either!

Arkkorox · 10/12/2014 20:50

After a horrendous night and a totaly beside herself upset DD weve ended up giving her some formula to top up feeds, Im just running out of milk before shes anywhere near full and this morning she was so so hungry, none of us got any sleep last night and when the midwife came this morning she checked my feeding etc and all is fine, im just not making enough yet to keep up with her need.

So far shes a much happier baby, Im wondering if I will ever be able to make enough milk to keep up with her! Im still BF during the day when she wants it but if she starts getting upset and frustrated shes just having an ounce of formula to top her up, this seems to be enough for her to be happy and settle. I think we went about 14 hours with her not really sleeping for any of it and just screaming cause she was so hungry! Heres hoping we can all at least get a couple of hours sleep!

amy83firsttimer · 10/12/2014 21:12

arkkorox don't panic about the milk situation - mine took about 5 days to come in. I gave top ups for a day in hospital and then about 2-3 data once home and ditched them. He's getting loads of wet and dirty nappies and sleeps occasionally so I'm happy he's getting enough. Hang in there.

ladydolly · 10/12/2014 21:13

stick with it arc, the 1st few days are really tough but it'll come together. dd was 10.03 so a big baby to feed, the first week she did at least 3 x 8 hour feeds through the night, I thought my nipples would drop off!! But it got my supply going good and proper!!

amy83firsttimer · 10/12/2014 21:16

I should say it was around day 5 that hospital put us on top ups so just as milk was coming in anyway so we probably would've been Ok without them.

And welcome!

WorkFreeWannabe · 10/12/2014 22:05

Hey ladies,

Sorry I'm struggling to keep up with this board at the moment do will just drop in when I can.

Got my blood results today and they are almost back to normal although my liver functions results are still a little high, but they're not worried. Got the okay to drive from the consultant today which is great news as he's convinced my seizure was pregnancy related and not down to epilepsy. EEG tomorrow just to rule it out so I might wait until then before getting behind the wheel.

I'm at my wits end at the moment. DS has been crying nonstop since about 3 today, constantly wanting to be on the breast but he's sucking but not swallowing. Seems to be a comfort thing or he's not being satisfied but it means I've done absolutely sod all today and my nipples are chaffed to hell. He's 4 weeks on Saturday and I'm this close < > to chucking it in and going the formula route. I feel like a really shit mum for not even making it to 4 weeks but I don't know what else to do as I'm in agony as this is the third day in a row.

Anna - you have my sympathies hope you get down below sorted soon.
