Welcome to all the November 2014 babies! Let all the post partum rejoicing and angst begin...

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Gggrrr. I hate that "is he your first?" with #headtilt. In my case yes he is but how about just answering the fucking question without making the mother feel like a clueless knob!

Good couple of days here. Good stretches of sleep overnight with short stretches in the day. Feeding marathons mainly confined to evening (9pm-1am).

catg83 · 08/12/2014 18:08

anna - DS is 10 days old and I was down to normal sanitary towels but a busy day 2 days ago have pushed me back into the maternity pads. Bah.

Greenstone · 08/12/2014 18:53

I'm all done on the lochia front since maybe 3 weeks.
The 'is it your first' head tilt is worse when it isn't your first!

Ha ha greenstone! Good point. If I get it with the next one someone's going to get an earful!!!

ladydolly · 08/12/2014 19:25

amy I can't believe you've already said 'next one'... ;)
Dp is still quoting the text I sent him while I was in labour that says 'we are only having one child'

I'm 17 days in and down to normal pads. I thought you were supposed to get hoovered out with a section?

Taking dd to cranial osteopath next week. She spends hours screaming for no reason bless her, dp can't cope with me saying 'babies cry' so we're giving it a go.

C sectioners, anyone driving yet? I was hoping I could start next week but wound has started to sting a bit... is that normal this long after?

ladydolly · 08/12/2014 19:30

Also, ftm question. I've only just given dd her 1st bath today at 17 days old and previous to that I've only given her 2 top and tail washes.. am I a slummy mummy? She's not been out much because of my recovery so she wasn't 'dirty', I've only started the baths because she puked in her hair. What's everyone else doing?

amy83firsttimer · 08/12/2014 20:02

Damn straight "next one"! Might as well get them out the way close together....
The sooner I'm done making them the sooner they'll move out right??? Wink

catg83 · 08/12/2014 21:32

Welcome to all the new mummies and babies. Thanks Wine

lady we are giving DS his next bath tonight. That is 2 at 10 days with no top and tailing.

Thehedgehogsong · 08/12/2014 21:37

Amy baths aren't important Smile I've just got round to wiping dd2's neck flaps (1 day old) she's had a face wash, I'm in no rush to bath her though.

I'm desperate for sleep but when I get a chance I just can't sleep. DH, DD1 and DD2 all sleeping loads today to make up for busy night. Anyone else co-sleeping?

ladydolly · 08/12/2014 22:24

amy brilliant, you'll be back on the antenatal threads in no time! dp wanted to crack on for no2 asap and I wanted to wait a bit, at least the section means I get my way.

hedgehog We're co sleeping, on clingy days and to nightfeed. I'm in a double bed in the nursery though so its just the 2 of us. I do try and put her in the moses when I can though just so its less of an issue in the future (I hope).

moggle · 08/12/2014 22:29

We co-slept for the first few nights as DD cried whenever put down in moses basket or bednest. She slept on my chest, me laid flat in the middle of the bed (DH packed off to spare room). But after a few nights she started to lie on her back a bit more happily and now (3.5 wks) she will probably 60% of the time go to sleep in the desired receptacle... Now when I have her next to me, she scrabbles at my boobs which is a bit annoying as my nipples are still fairly sore. But hopefully soon they'll be normal and I can feed her lying down and then pop her back in the bednest.

ToniWol · 08/12/2014 22:54

I suspect that was one thing with the trip to NICU. DD is happy sleeping in her Moses Basket. Although during the day today she decided that my chest was the best bed.

First day with DH back at work went well. Earlier to bed tonight as well so hopefully tomorrow we'll be able to settle into more of a routine.

Strawberryfield12 · 09/12/2014 08:57

Thought I will mark my place while catching up on earlier posts in the thread. DD was born on 4 december, weighing 3,7kg, not very good with pounds but it is something around 9lbs i guess.
Last 5 days have flown by breastfeeding and admiring the LO. I will start to be more active once I have done with catching up.
Hope everyone is getting some sleep and babies are growing nicely x

Nessalina · 09/12/2014 09:57

Morning all, we had a bit of a killer night here! J was up between 130 and 430 and we got through seven nappies, three outfits, and 4 feeds before he settled back down again! It actually got almost funny towards the end, it was like he was deliberately picking the worst possible time to fill his nappy! Grin Little bugger.

Four weeks in, lochia here is down to the last dribs and drabs, though it's still bright red when I am getting it which is odd.

Thisisimpossible · 09/12/2014 10:48

Morning all. Lovely to see you all again! I've finally found time to make it over here! DS was born on the 27th November at 3.07am after a very quick, but seriously intense labour. My waters went at 9.30pm on the 26th, I was 3cm at midnight and he was born at 3am weighing 7lb 14oz.

So we're 10 or 11 days in now and trying to get some sort of a routine. He sleeps like a baby(!) throughout the day but night times decides he doesn't want to settle - we're starting today to try to switch this round so that he sleeps better at night.

Both boobs are sore, but my left boob in particular is agony - for some reason it isn't coping as well as the other one with feeding. This turning day to night routine involves feeding more often during the day in order to keep him up a bit more, but I am terrified about what it's going to do to my boobs. I have been constantly on painkillers since birth just so that I can just about bear to bf and that worries me too - surely it's not good for him to have this much pain relief in my system?

Will try to find time to catch up with the earlier pages and see what you've all been doing, but that may be wishful thinking!

Onwards and upwards!

moggle · 09/12/2014 10:56

Thisisimpossible- I'm sure it's much better for him to have breastmilk and pain relief than neither! Paracetamol and ibuprofen are both perfectly safe when breastfeeding - (and any other painkillers you've been prescribed if they know you're bf) - remember stuff doesn't get into breast milk in quite the same way as it gets across the placenta. Hence why we can eat pate and rare steak now :-D
I've been taking paracetamol abd ibuprofen quite a lot over the last 4 weeks, again for boob issues. Is it pain inside the boob or nipple issues?

Thisisimpossible · 09/12/2014 11:07

Hi moggle, it's nipple pain rather than anything else. I got the mw to check everything on Saturday and there's no mastitis, it's just sore cracked nipples. I'm just on paracetamol and ibuprofen but getting through the packets! His latch is good at least, which is a godsend.

Annarose2014 · 09/12/2014 11:08

I took Difene & Paracetamol constantly for three weeks & am currently completing my 2nd round of antibiotics. Baby seems unaffected! But more importantly I couldn't have managed without all of it, and Mum is important too.

If your boob is agony definately express it empty. It helps enormously. Gets rid of all the worrying lumps. And as a bonus, you get a free feed!

I am having to express every day if not twice a day. I'm now at 4 weeks and am trying to actually reduce my oversupply by block feeding 6 hrs on each side, but am finding that when I switch sides the new boob is massively engorged and if I feed baby it gushes and he splutters and chokes and can't latch and milk goes everywhere and of course he gets a ton of trapped wind. Very distressing for both of us.

Subsequent feeds from that side are perfect though.

So the first feed of each side I'm expressing and feeding him in a bottle which goes down blissfully & he takes loads and loads.

Its really a shit solution tbh (though DH usually does that feed which does help) & totally non-sustainable long term - I'm hoping my supply eventually settles down and every feed is nice. In the meantime its all I can think of.

Annarose2014 · 09/12/2014 11:11

Are you going mad with the Lanisoh? You have to be totally obsessive about it. Don't discount a nipple shield either until the pain goes away. There's definately someone on here using them, though I can't remember who!

moggle · 09/12/2014 12:04

I've been suffering from sore cracked nipples too, 4 weeks in and they are now healing. It's been pretty horrid though and I was crying before each feed at the worst point which lasted a couple of days :-(

Midwives, maternity assistants and bf experts at our local baby cafe watched her latch on and feed and said its perfect and her weight gain bears this out too. The only explanation that I've been given is it's probably just sensitive skin (I am quite fair and do have very sensitive skin). I've been slathering on lansinoh which is definitely essential, but the thing that finally helped them start healing was using breast shells. This keeps bra and clothes off the nipples. The problem I had was that my cracks were at the base of the nipple, the nipple was being squished down in my bra, so the cracks would start to heal, but then as soon as she fed, it would obviously elongate again and the cracks would open. Stopping them being squished has meant they can heal in a better position. Lefty is now all healed up and righty is well on the way.
I was also suggested to use nipple shields but as her latch was good I didn't want to introduce any more problems. Also expressing - I was concerned this would still open up the cracks in the same painful way, but at least the pump can't squirm and pull on the nipple like DD does!
I would say that it might be a while before they're 100% healed but I've got to say bf on the left side now is completely painless and I am glad I got through it. Definitely keep necking the painkillers.

moggle · 09/12/2014 12:11

these were the shells I got, but I saw some own brand ones when I was shopping in boots the other day and they were half the price. Only thing to be aware of is that if you leak into one while feeding on the other side and then lean over to change a nappy or put baby down, you will get milk coming out of the ventilation holes! 2 weeks and I still haven't learned this!!

excitedforbaba · 09/12/2014 12:54

So difficult trying to keep up to date with this thread, feeding changing housework sleeping...
DD is doing so well already over her birth weight at 10 days old! She's so greedy on 4oz bottles already

Any of you that have had sections ever have a yellow oozy discharge from wound? Mine started yesterday doctor this afternoon but wondering if there's anything I can do to stop a possible infection or if one has started stop it getting worse

Annarose2014 · 09/12/2014 13:08

FUCKFUCKFUCK!

Back from GP, antibiotics haven't worked, episiotomy still angry & painful, have to be referred to hospital for review.

FUUUUUCK!

Oh and apparently Baby is going through a massive growth spurt so he's ridiculously starving/cranky/inconsolable just now. I really don't have time to go to the motherfucking hospital and have a ...shudder... revision.

amy83firsttimer · 09/12/2014 13:13

Awwww. Poor you Annarose2014 - at least you have plenty of milk and can express, and you must look after yourself too, especially your foo!!!!

Arkkorox · 09/12/2014 14:48

Hello everyone! Think I might be the last straggler!

DD was born at 12:30am on the 7th of December after a stressful labour where we weren't sure if I was going to have to have a c section as dds heart rate plummeted with every contraction. All the foetal blood tests came back fine though so no section needed in the end! Dd was totaly tangled in her cord and was a bit shocked when she arrived but she's doing great now! Finally got home yesterday evening, had a good first night and she seems determined to have a feeding marathon today.... I've been stuck on the sofa since half 10 this morning!!!
