My DD is due Thursday it's been good to read all your experiences about the first few days/weeks with your newborns. It's helping me to get ready for what to expect.

I've tried twice to correct my grammar in this post but it doesn't seemed to have helped one bit. Maybe sleep will

Lisad1975 · 11/11/2014 09:18

Sleep cures everything lol

blamber · 11/11/2014 09:31

Hi everyone! I can join you now :)

Will catch up on all the posts later a bit. At the moment trying to figure out when and how to get some breakfast with a little baby fast asleep in my arms who won't settle in his crib. Boyfriend is having a nap after holding him for a couple of hours earlier while I caught some sleep. First night home from hospital and it's so tough!

Greenstone · 11/11/2014 09:40

Hey blamber, welcome and congrats! Our first night home was hard too. Toast apples and bananas are pretty much what I eat one - handed for breakfast while feeding! Was your ds a little early?

OP posts:
Kantha · 11/11/2014 15:32

Congratulations Blamber. How old is your DS? Did you manage to eat breakfast? It's amazing what can be accomplished/eaten with one hand.

Greenstone - blood loss update : suddenly much lighter again today. Confused

I took DS1 to school today with DD in the pram. Left DS2 at home with DH. It was really nice. Had a good chat with DS and struggled to escape the playground as people cooed over the baby. It's raining for school pick up now, so DH has been sent Wink. Love paternity leave.

Stripylikeatiger · 11/11/2014 17:56

Congratulations blamber!

Must have been lovely to have people cooing over your baby kantha :)

Paternity leave is just amazing! My dp saved 2 weeks holiday so he will be at home until December I have no idea how I'm going to cope with 2 children once he goes back to work, I tried to out ds1 down for a nap whilst simultaneously breast feeding the baby, it was all going really well until the baby did a huge pop (with very dramatic sound effects) just as ds1 was dropping off, ds1 thought it was hilarious but it made getting him to sleep hard!

Mums of 2 of more, how do you do it?!

weeonion · 12/11/2014 04:06

Hey folks! Good morning to you. Up early to express and feed. Like many of you - feeding issues and weight loss to deal with.
tphis csection has really taken it out of me. Still on painkillers but trying to keep to minimum as makes baby tired but then i struggle with pain.

did any of you have water retention post section?? I have HUGE feet and thighs - rock solid right up to my bum! Finding it hard to,walk as cant really bend feet and legs.

the joys.... The joys....

Greenstone · 12/11/2014 09:43

Morning all. Weeonion don't skimp too much on your pain meds...they're important for your wellbeing Thanks

Well we've had dramatic weight loss here too which was so gutting but I'm delighted to say that dd had gained well at her weigh in yesterday. So just need to keep going as we are.

Dd1 woke up this morning and promptly puked Sad she is never sick but I guess that's life! Does anyone (kantha maybe?) Know what the deal is with newborns and older siblings vomiting...I think dd 2 should be ok as they have a lot of immunity from pregnancy?

We also have to trek back into hospital this afternoon to get dd2's hearing test re done. One of her ears didn't pass the test in hospital. The lady said it was probably just mucus but it's another worry!

Morning.

Welcome over to post natal Weeonion. I had a lot of fluid retention last week. Then I managed to lose 8lbs in 3 days Shock. It must have all been fluid as my ankle bones have now reappeared and I had been waking up sweaty. Plus I am eating masses. Reweighed myself this morning and just 1lb lighter over a few days which seems more sensible.

Greenstone - sorry to hear about the sickness bug. Not sure if DD2 will have immunity. I think all you can do is be really strict on hand hygiene and don't let DD1 one lick/kiss DD2.

Not such a nice walk to school this morning. The heavens opened as we got there, so DS1 stayed dry. DD did have a rainhood on the pram, but I got drenched. Back home now drinking coffee, eating toast and feeding DD. Much better Smile.

caravela · 12/11/2014 10:26

Greenstone - our dd has to go back to hospital to repeat the hearing test at the weekend too. Like yours, she passed in one ear but not the other. But the lady who didn't said that it's very common especially if the test is done early. So probably both of our babies were just bunged up and will be totally fine. But I know what you mean- it's impossible not to worry a bit.

Feeding is so much better for both of us now the milk is properly in. Nights 2 and 3 we're pretty stressful with her being hungry every half hour and my breasts getting increasingly chafed, and then when the milk came in my breasts got so engorged I looked like a porn star and she found the size and hardness a bit confusing. But now she's doing well, and seems to be going for longer between feeds which is a relief. Dd absolutely hated being weighed by the midwife on Monday (she got much more upset about that than the heel prick test) but she's only 15g down from birth weight which is excellent.

Greenstone · 12/11/2014 10:41

That's brilliant caravela. I'll let you know how we get on today. Fingers crossed both of our girls will pass well this time!

Dd1 seems much brighter already, eating toast and watching Tangled.

OP posts:
Kantha · 12/11/2014 12:14

DS2 failed his HV hearing test and the next round at the hospital, but was then fine on check 3. I think he was all bunged up too.

DH has just put unleaded in my diesel car Shock. The guy at the pump thinks it will be ok as it was only 4 litres. This could spoil our plans for a pub lunch whilst the boys are at school...

Greenstone · 12/11/2014 16:38

Dd 2 passes straight away -phew. I don't want to see that hospital again for a looong time.

OP posts:
Kantha · 12/11/2014 19:31

The car survived and we got our pub lunch. Smile

DS2 (newly turned 4) is showing all the signs of sibling jealousy with his baby sister Sad. Not quite sure what the best approach is at the moment. He seems to be on top form at preschool, and is really only meeting it out at home. I am hoping that time and reassurance will see an improvement.

Lisad1975 · 12/11/2014 21:51

Am I the only one whose dd has not lost weight at all and has gained steadily - now a lovely 9lbs 4oz !!!
I have a piglet lol
My fluid was crazy after c section legs like sausages : / all gone now tho !
I need to really boost my iron - any ideas ladies ??
I am on tablets 3 x a day for 3 months ( i had a transfusion of 3 litres due to heamorage during section hence having a GA after.) but i do feel lightheaded at times .

utopian99 · 13/11/2014 07:05

So after all that ranting yesterday the New Small decided to turn up early, which genuinely surprised us! (Only by 5 days though.) Not quite the birth I'd had in mind but everyone was glorious at the hospital and he is feeding like a trooper! Still need an absolute fix on a middle name so not told anyone beyond parents and pil yet - and you lot!
Will stick up proper birth story in a bit, anyone else overnight? (Nov 13th - oooh. )

Lisad1975 · 13/11/2014 07:22

Congrats ??

WinterLover · 13/11/2014 07:43

Thanks sorehead only just seen your reply. The past couple of days I had wondered if it was reflux. She's bringing milk up and screaming when she does now. Think I might be best taking her to the doctors to see if they have any advice. I've not given her Infacol since last night to see if she's more settled or not.

Greenstone · 13/11/2014 09:24

Wow utopian huge congrats! Sounds like it all happened quickly? Hope he's doing well and you're feeling ok (and all thoughts of that pesky assignment have been put to bed!).

Lisa for iron I guess as much red meat as you can face is the best thing. Eggs for breakfast with orange juice. Lentil soups, dried apricots....

OP posts:
weeonion · 13/11/2014 09:41

Lisaad- I was told to eat dark chocolate with as high a cocoa content.

another one on iron tablets here but just for 6 weeks. I feel like I am rattling with pills - painkillers, iron, antidepressants...... I HATE taking tablets at the best of times so this is rotten. I was also shocked by the tummy jabs!! Eek.

caravela · 13/11/2014 11:18

Lisaad, liver has a really high iron content, much higher than other meat, and you can eat it again now you're not pregnant (if you like it of course). Meat in general is the best thing though there's surprisingly much in shellfish too. There are tables online you can look up of iron content on different types of food. And the body absorbs it better if you take vitamin c at the same time so try having a bit of orange juice at the same time.

Lisad1975 · 13/11/2014 12:20

Ooh thanku :)
Except I dont eat red meat but I will increase eggs and oj and dark choc :))
I had a huge bag of meds to bring home- they seem to give u loads!
Only taking iron now tho
And I defo dont need the blooming laxative stuff they gave me !!!!
Those injections gave me bruises too- thank god my partner did them , i couldnt have done it myself!

caravela · 13/11/2014 13:16

Dried apricots are meant to be good too.

I had to be on iron tablets for a bit during pregnancy - hated them, so hope they don't make you feel too sick.

Ihatechoosingausername · 13/11/2014 17:00

Don't eat too many dried apricots like I did or else you'll be farting for hours!
