Thank you for all your kind words - feeling a bit better today though reading your posts made me cry.

ismarah yes I've got a bit of depression - been talking to my gp about it since ds was born. The conclusion is its not just postnatal but a combination of everything that has happened and the ongoing consequences of that and I've had to increase bp meds again which I don't think are helping.. I'm waiting for counselling. Most days I'm ok but some days like yesterday I struggle. It started off as a good day - plenty of sleep the night before and ds in a good mood - which almost made it worse when he then got grumpy In the afternoon and it took ages to calm him down and got progressively worse from there. ds was grumpy with me and so was dp and nothing I did was right.

ickle had it spot on with I think I am on a very thin edge. Get a good night sleep/not be ill and I can cope with ds who I have accepted is a fussy baby. Be sleep deprived/ill and I cry. A lot. I do my best but don't really cope. I'm sorry your ds was playing up last night too - I've often said I think our babies are in cahoots!

dp is annoying the hell out of me atm - I know I shouldn't complain as he does most of the housework but he just doesn't get how hard it is

ismarah · 07/11/2014 11:21

Glad to hear things look better in the sunlight. My fragile time with DD is always around 5-6pm when I'm tired. But it got to the point where I'd recognise that was what was going on and that helped, knowing it wasn't clinical depression. Just a typical overtired new mummy.
Lovely as the NHS is, mental health services are far too slow. The agony of waiting for help!

Maybe leave your DP with DS for a weekend evil ismarah and show him how hard it is. Bet he'll appreciate you then..

Auntie

massive hugsThanks

icklekid · 07/11/2014 14:35

auntie I'm really glad you have spoken to hcp and hope you get some help soon. I get very frustrated with dh too. I honestly don't think he has a clue how hard some days are. I rang him in tears yesterday whilst being violently sick again asking if he could get away from work early. He couldn't and came home later than normal. ..turned out he went to the supermarket to buy me comfort food...considering I couldn't keep food down I didn't have any words. He was trying but I really just needed him! I ended up falling asleep at 7 as soon as I put ds to sleep! I am convinced our ds' are somehow communicating! I follow this group on Facebook auntie if it helps m.facebook.com/thefussybabysite sometimes the posts just help reassure me ds is how he is...it won't last forever x

ZingOfSeven · 07/11/2014 14:46

ickle

I didn't know you were sick. poor you. Thanks
can you stomach some honey? High factor Manuka honey is a great all round medicine.

AuntieMaggie · 07/11/2014 20:38

Would love to leave ds for the weekend but I'd miss him too much - he stayed overnight with grandparents last weekend and I was wide awake by 7 am cos it was too quiet!

today has been much better though my hips hurt cos I walked with ds to the children's centre - I've put the seat instead of the pram thing on the buggy and he seems happier in it and slept for 2 hours in it when we got back! He's been good tonight though a bit niggly earlier which was resolved with a bottle (I'm wondering if he's expecting it now as he seems to get like that in the hour or so before he gets it even if I've BF him) and was asleep but woke when dh put him down so he's just getting him back to sleep now

AuntieMaggie · 07/11/2014 20:40

Thank you for the link ickle - hope you and zing have had better days today

icklekid · 08/11/2014 07:57

Well its official I have the noro virus and have to stay in bed/within sprinting distance of the bathroom whilst listening to ds who just wants his mummy screaming. But I can't risk passing this on. I've not had any sleep since 2 and was up every hour from 12 anyway. .. This is all too hard Sad

AuntieMaggie · 08/11/2014 10:54

Oh no ickle hope you get better soon. Can ds go somewhere else so you don't have to hear him cry or can you get some earplugs?

GrouchyKiwi · 08/11/2014 11:03

Hope you get better soon, ickle. Flowers

icklekid · 08/11/2014 12:02

Thanks all dh has taken ds to his mums, he also took him on a long walk this morning so I have been able to rest. Not been sick for a few hours which is progress and even managed a slice of dry toast. Honestly this is the most horrible virus... hope you are all well.

auntie how are things this weekend? Still thinking of you

zing any better?

AuntieMaggie · 08/11/2014 15:13

better thank you ickle - dp got up with ds this morning so I had a bit of a lie in. ds is currently asleep on me while dp has a nap Hmm

Plateofcrumbs · 08/11/2014 19:24

ickle and auntie - big ol' unmumsnetty hugs for both of you. You're both doing brilliantly in the circumstances.

icklekid · 09/11/2014 11:02

Thanks plate feeling totally exhausted today but not really same sickness. Got to decide if my mum should come up to help tomorrow or not. Dh has been amazing but I'm really worried I won't be able to do a whole day by myself tomorrow. .. going to get Dh to do food shop and I will look after ds to see how I go.

VIPmarya212 · 09/11/2014 19:23

Thank you for the new thread. Just checked mums net today.

Auntie & Ickle get well soon!

icklekid · 10/11/2014 04:44

Urgh now dh has it Sad he was violently sick all eve. My mum has come up to help today. Shes got up with ds and dh is still asleep. ..I'm feeling ok at the moment however am yet to get out of bed! ( why am I even awake??!)

AuntieMaggie · 10/11/2014 11:19

Oh no ickle - hope you're both better soon

I feel like crap - ds was funny with me again yesterday eve and wouldn't feed properly and then I remembered he was like this on the first day of my period last month... very strange... He slept fitfully (?) last night so between him and dp I didn't get much sleep and when he woke at 4:30 I had a really bad headache and felt faint so dp got up with him so I could get some more sleep before he went to work. I still don't feel right though the headache has gone. I'm assuming it's period related.

ds went back to sleep for half hour at 7 and I managed to get him back to sleep til 9 by putting him in bed with me but I don't want to have to do that all the time. and next week we have workmen in so no naps upstairs :(

GrouchyKiwi · 10/11/2014 14:08

Hope you're all better soon, ickle .

That is odd, auntie. If you're breastfeeding, I wonder if the hormones change the flavour of the milk.

After a difficult morning with my two - clingy baby and tantrumming toddler - I now have a migraine. So thankful for OnDemand films to keep DD1 occupied.

AuntieMaggie · 10/11/2014 19:13

I looked it up last month kiwi as I was worried it would affect my supply (and I was freaking out cos it was after a night out) and apparently it does affect the taste but even when he's not hungry/feeding he was being funny with me. All very strange.

Morning ladies well not feeling quite as sick this morning, dh wants to try and go into work this morning so I've had ds this morning. (He better be greatful!!!)

As ds slept through I'm wondering if we should take turns getting up with him. Normally dh has him until 6 when he gets up for work then I take him. Should I offer to alternate or just let dh have him until he suggests otherwise? I like to think its daddy time as I have ds all day. When I'm back to work will be different hoping he won't still wake at 4am!

On a different note ds woke at 4.15, using the light and music on monitor he was happy until 4.45 - does that make me a bad parent to leave him until then? He's now fast asleep next to me on the sofa.

Dh perfected getting him to sleep lying by himself not on him which seems to work and be a good compromise. Hoping can transition to sleeping in cot if we are home as won't be relying on my body heat etc. That or I get him to sleep on my bed and I then fall asleep Wink

GrouchyKiwi · 11/11/2014 21:17

For those of you who have a bedtime routine that "works": what do you do?

DD2 has started sleeping till very late in the morning. She settles for the night at about 11pm and wakes once or twice to feed. Last night she woke at 4am and 7am then slept till 12.30pm! It was both good and bad.

I've decided that I need to get her to settle earlier in the evening but am not sure how to achieve this. We don't have a routine at all, just a vague schedule.

Tonight I've bathed and fed her and poor her in bed at 9pm. I'm now listening to her alternate between talking to her toys and whinging half-heartedly. She's tired but I usually put her to bed when she's asleep. I'm going to go in, settle her, abs repeat until she sleeps tonight, but suspect I'll end up feeding her to sleep and she'll do her usual.

Ideas?
