The old thread is nearly full so here's a new place for us to chat about our July babies. Help yourself to some tea & cake to keep you going through the sleepless nights Brew Cake.

We bathe and feed ds then cuddle to sleep so he's asleep by about 8 pm then put him in his crib. He then wakes between 1 and 2 and 4 and 5 (so twice) but will be up at about 6. What time is her last nap before bed? Could you put her down then? Is your house very active til 11? If so could you change this for a bit til she's in a routine?

GrouchyKiwi · 11/11/2014 21:56

She doesn't do naps, just the occasional sleep on her chair or on me, never more than half an hour. I think this is why she is now sleeping longer on the mornings.

We're not particularly active in the evenings. DD1 is in bed at about 7.30pm and then we do a few chores before relaxing.

DD1 was similar but at least knew how to nap during the day so I'm at a bit of a loss here!

icklekid · 12/11/2014 00:28

kiwi I don't think there is anything wrong with feeding to sleep if it works? Maybe don't leave until 11 and see how long she sleeps for?

icklekid · 12/11/2014 00:31

Sorry just read you bath and fed her so guess she won't be hungry before 11 now...ds gets tired by 6ish so we bath and feed and hes asleep by 6.30/7ish so not a lot of help. Hes awake by 4.30/5 if it's any consolidation!!! (Then asleep 2h later...grr!)

lemonpoppyseed · 12/11/2014 02:17

Kiwi, we haven't settled into a night time routine either. DS (3) goes to bed at 7:30, and I feed DD then, regardless of when she last ate/woke from nap. Sometimes she falls asleep, sometimes she's awake until 10:30-or later. I'm not too concerned yet (she's 18wks). With DS we fell into a nice routine about six months in. We are in the middle of the four month sleep regression at the moment, so all bets are off regarding any kind of routine setting.

Hope you have a better night tonight.

lemonpoppyseed · 12/11/2014 02:21

Oh, and I feed to sleep. It works for both of us. DS gave up on feeding to sleep when he had just turned one. I hope this one sticks at it too! My doctor gave me the best piece of advice about feeding to sleep: "Why wouldn't you do it?"

Plateofcrumbs · 12/11/2014 04:28

I don't know if this is the dreaded sleep regression (16 weeks on Friday) but DS keeps waking up 5-20mins after I've put him down. Sometimes we eventually get nice long stretches (4-6hrs) after an evening of rocking, putting down, crying, picking up,repeat (though so far tonight we've topped out at 2hrs). Googling suggests making sure they are firmly asleep (eg asleep for 20mins) before putting down, but that's at odds with the whole 'drowsy but awake' ideal. Not that we were achieving that anyway. Argh!

icklekid · 12/11/2014 05:31

plate we do drowsy but awake first time but if wake up/cry we wait until fast asleep- floppy arm test!

On a different matter on Facebook been discussing Christmas pressie ideas- some practical (highchair, weaning stuff) some fun (toys etc) but know not everyone is on Facebook so any ideas/essentials here?

ZingOfSeven · 12/11/2014 07:36

morning all

BabyZing finally had his second jabs yesterday (16weeks+ now) so I'm expecting a couple of rough days.
he was weighed on Monday and weighed a stone exactly! (6.36 kgs)

I'm sorry I hardly join in, especially with the sleeping problems chats, but luckily he sleeps very well at night (6-7 hours stretch somewhere between 11.30pm - 7.30am).

I'm 2 weeks 2 days post op now and thankfully ok to drive, eat anything at all without "repercussions" and not in any pain bar sore belly button.
I'm still exhausted and have big naps when I can but feeling ok otherwise.
I can't lift anything heavier than BabyZing for another 4 weeks, but I've got people lined up to help with schoolrun when my mum goes home - it's easy now because I can leave him and ZingGirl with her while dropping off/picking up kids and don't have to lift baby in car seat and pushchair.

Happy Wednesday, have a lovely day!Smile

Plateofcrumbs · 12/11/2014 08:51

ickle I've been trying the 'floppy arm' and he's still waking up, although I think perhaps I just need to leave it longer.

Christmas presents - we're just going to do a stocking (DH's family tradition is that Father Christmas brings the stocking presents, so we wanted to keep that going and have some pictures we can show DS in future of the first time Santa visited). DH and I are planning to get 2 or 3 small things each then we can open the things each other bought so the whole exercise of wrapping presents isn't entirely pointless.

I'm thinking of a couple of practical things (weaning stuff, small toy) and something 'keepsake-y' that in future years he will still have - so maybe a framed photo, Christmas bauble with his name on it, or a Christmas music box.

AuntieMaggie · 12/11/2014 13:59

ickle I started this thread asking about presents and got some good ideas. We've got ds a jumperoo and I'm copying the 'sensory basket' idea and getting bits you would get in one to put in a stocking (looking at the contents of them on websites/fb etc you can get most things really cheap)... so far have stacking cups, wooden spoon, shower puff, links things, battery operated lights... and a couple of books. Actually this has just reminded me about a couple of things I need to get... I let him 'choose' an ornament for the tree in m & s the other day (showed him some and got one he laughed at) and I've got a photo of him in a Christmas outfit that the grandparents are getting for Xmas!

I'm struggling to tell other people what to get ds for Xmas tbh other than things like vests!

Plateofcrumbs · 12/11/2014 14:10

Loads of great ideas on that thread auntie I will be stealing some of those!

AuntieMaggie · 12/11/2014 14:19

I did think about getting some stuff for messy play at home like paint and stuff but then I thought ds gets to do that once a week at baby group so why have the bother of cleaning up at home Grin

NancyinCali · 12/11/2014 15:55

I don't think I got more than 1.5 hours straight sleep last night. Not entirely DD's fault - she slept 7-1.30am but DH worked late getting home at 1am and I couldn't sleep properly waiting for him. Then DD was awake on and off for the rest of the night.

icklekid · 13/11/2014 07:31

Thanks auntie I think tradition wise we will be getting some Christmas pjs and when older add a dvd which can be Christmas eve tradition!

Sadly think ds might also have gastroenteritis he fed as normal at 11 then at 2 refused by 3.30 I rang health visitor who sent me to gp. He finally fed in waiting room then very runny poo Sad he didn't feed again until 3am this morning didn't get back to sleep until 4.30 and then only until 6. Finally fed again and back to sleep- hopefully for longer!

Nancy hope you have a better nights sleep

AuntieMaggie · 13/11/2014 09:12

awww ickle hope he's ok - are you BF?

ismarah · 13/11/2014 09:16

My MIL is on holiday and apparently saw the cutest little outfit that she just HAD to buy, so she did. Except they only had it in 0-3m and rather than face facts (and not buy it...or return it!), that even a small 5-6m old is gonna struggle to fit in it.

So now I've had to measure DD from top to bottom because reasons. Sigh.

icklekid · 13/11/2014 13:10

No auntie thankfully not breastfeeding don't know how I would have coped feeling so unwell and breastfeeding. Ds seemed ok this morning but just threw up his last feed Sad

ismarah that would annoy me- present for someone else with younger baby?

GrouchyKiwi · 13/11/2014 16:04

I just spent 5 hours shopping with the two girls. Never again. We only went to 3 shops.

Why does nowhere have plain long-sleeved t-shirts in bright colours? H&M is closest but they don't have the right colours in the sizes I need.

Exhausted.

NancyinCali · 13/11/2014 17:47

I've been shopping once with both grouchy and it's definitely not something I'll be repeating!

Plate H&M online has much more of a selection of styles and sizes, I've found. Their delivery service is slow as it comes from Sweden and it's not free no matter how much you order and they have primary coloured body suits at least, if not T shirts.

ismarah · 13/11/2014 20:00

Oops! Meant Grouchy! #facepalm

Plateofcrumbs · 13/11/2014 20:17

DS did his first through-the-night sleep last night - 9hrs! Sadly I don't think he will be repeating the trick tonight as he has terrible constipation from the gaviscon he's been taking for his reflux.

Bought some fabric to make DS a Christmas stocking - obviously only the most expensive fabric in the shop was good enough for my PFB, which means it will be a stupidly expensive stocking!

Fox28 · 13/11/2014 22:20

Code 2885 gives free delivery from H&M!

GrouchyKiwi · 13/11/2014 23:07

Thanks ismarah and fox! I'll check it out tomorrow.
