Good news is thaty W went for 2.5 hrs between feeds last night - feel much more human today. This is the week of the visitors - managed to banish them for the first couple of weeks which was great, but now they're all coming at once . First proper trip out on Thursday - psyching self up to bfing in public .

Sending all calm baby vibes for today - W just woken up so better go!

Rumpel · 23/10/2006 12:31

Hi All,
Nightmare last night - no sleep until 5am, constant bf from 11pm onwards - despite feeding her very hours during the day. The night before was 3.30am, which I thought was bad. Is this normal? She is actually feeding, as I canm hear her swallowing, so not flaffing around. Got to 4am and thought she cannot possibly still be hungry, so thought I would try the 'leave to cry' scenario. Was truly awful, earplugs in, hands over ears, head under covers - soo didn't work. 40 mins of crying and me feeling sooo guilty. Am knackered though and am sure htis isn't normal, after reading others comments.

Went shopping on Saturday - even trousers in the fat shop didn't fit me. Why is it with 'tall' clothes they increase he leg length but not the body. Trousers come up to the top of my pubis, even tried 'high waisters' on ho ho . Need to research on the net for made to meausure jeans. My feet are still quite big too - if they don't go down a bit I'll need to go the 'ladyboy' shop to buy shoes!

Our shopping centre is good as it has a breastfeeding area - so was able to feed LO whilst eating a sandwich with remaining hand. Am very glad was quite ambidextrous before LO came along!

Have a nice day/good sleep everyone.

Gemmitygem · 23/10/2006 12:32

I was thinking the same, whiffy: you go from having loads of time on your hands just waiting for the baby to come, (specially for first timers) to once the baby's here not having time to dry your hair and simple things like that! Will we ever be able to read a book again? seems not!

pmoore: well done on the receding tum! I overdid it yesterday doing step ups and crunches and started bleeding quite a lot, so am trying to take it easy, but the tum is going nowhere! It's kind of depressing since the rest of me is skinny, I just look pregnant. Re grobags, I've heard they're good but I can't see how to combine them with swaddling, which is so far the only surefire method of getting littly to drop off, however bad a mood he's in... so might wait till the post-swaddling stage when they don't startle any more. There must be some mumsnet threads about the togs somewhere...

catgirl · 23/10/2006 13:59

loved grobags last time round - we got the 1 or 1.5 tog (can't remember) - was the middle one anyway, as our house is quite warm and you can always add a lightweight blanket if it is cold. Think the first gro bag is from 10lb+ so might be over the swaddling stage by then?

Just had breastfeeding support person round - very helpful, just got to remember it and put it into practice. My milk just floods out so ds2 (very weird typing in a '2' there) feeds very quickly and seems content to sleep for a couple of hours afterwards - well during the day, not at night. Seems hard to settle between the hours of 10 pm - 1:30 pm ish - last night dh slept with ds2 on him for a couple of hours, which meant we all got to sleep. No way that would have happened last time, much more relaxed about it this time! Seriously thinking about expressing a bottle over the course of a day (if I can) so that dh can feed once a day - anyone else doing this? Swore blind that I wouldn't express ever again after last time... ds2 not even a week old and I have the breast pump out already!

Swizzler: sympathies re visiting - we are starting our round of that next week - first my parents, followed by my in-laws, with no overlap thank goodness. They will all stay for a few days, but should be OK - you will all be hearing about it if it isn't!

catgirl · 23/10/2006 14:04

whiffy: have forgotten how old your ds is? It is a very tricky balance isn't it. My ds1 is 4 and although seems besotted with ds2, it is hard trying to balance the needs of the baby, which must be met, and still have time for the eldest so they don't feel pushed out.... if you figure it out, write a book and make a fortune!

Am very impressed with those doing exercise - most I do at the moment is walk up and down stairs... although finding clothes to fit is quite difficult. Didn't think you were supposed to do anything until your 6 week check - or is that my excuse ?!

majormoo · 23/10/2006 17:26

Rumpel I can sympathise as, apart from last night when he only woke a couple of times, every other night I have been feeding right through the night getting no more than 2 or 3 hours sleep a night. We had the same thing with DD. Spent hours resisting feeding her thinking she couldn't possibly be hungry, for her just to scream and to end up feeding her anyway. So this time, am just giving in to the fact some newborns like to feed all the bloody time. Thankfully, it doesn't last long (that is what I am telling myself). Even though it is shattering, I am convincing myself that he will start going longer stetches very soon.

catgirl-I am going to start expressing in a couple of weeks. DS is feeding so much at the moment, I don't have any structure to when he could have a bottle, but am hoping in a couple of weeks things will have a bit more of a pattern to them.

totallyfloaty35 · 23/10/2006 20:56

Hi all, grobags v.gd and you can buy in different togs. But been swaddling or Lexie wont go down at night. She very gd at night ,finish feed at about midnight then she sleeps til about 6,then another feed then another 2 hr sleep.
But in the day i dont get anything done as she feeds almost all the time,if she is awake, she is attached,i have huge pile of washing and ironing as although DH does everything else he wont do those as he is destruction man around ironing.
Was starting to look longingly at containers of formula as at least you dont have to be on tap the whole time.Oh well have decided that from end of this week will start expressing as think DH feels a little left out even though im nice enough to let him do all the nappy changes

emzickle · 23/10/2006 21:15

evening!!!!

LO is 10 days old today - got signed off by MW.

She1s gone from 6lb 13 to 7lb 6 .... podge!

mamado · 24/10/2006 10:05

Morning all. Thought now dd2 is 1 week old that its time to join the post-natal thread. Sounds like you are all doing brilliantly and I'm very pleased that everyone else can't fit into any clothes! I tried on a skirt i bought 2 weeks after dd1 was born which is usually much too big and I could only just about fit one leg in! Oh well, guess its the delights of maternity clothes for a bit longer!!!

When do babies go from sleeping all the time to feeding all the time? I remember dd1 being almost permenantly latched on, whereas dd2 at 7 days seems to be asleep most of the time (so far )

Swizzler · 24/10/2006 11:21

Rumpel: W also has long stretches of feeding and fussing, tho tends to be early evening or 9-12/1am ish. Think it's normal - he seems to be slowly adjusting to feeding lessat night (just over 2 hrs betw feeds). Visitors yesterday meant he was wound up and took ages to settle

Off to have a quick bath while W snoozes in his new bouncy chair - a bargain from Kiddicare.

emzickle · 24/10/2006 11:58

im really struggling now OH has gone back to work leaving me with a one week old baby - cant even have a shower because i dont like leaving her as she doesnt sleep for blocks of time during the day.

grotty.

whiffy · 24/10/2006 12:52

Harumph.

DH had work crisis and was off at 4 am to Poland. He tried breaking it in gently with "it's only for a couple of days..." then on his way out of the door he'd escalated it to "Probably back next Monday, or Tuesday, tops". Where are the frying pans when you need them? Didnt get any better when on the phone on way to Heathrow he told me he HAD whinged to his boss and as a direct result his boss was going to send me a bunch of flowers. Might have taken it better if his boss could send me my husband back instead.

Rumpel · 24/10/2006 14:40

Hi All,

Had semi-decent sleep last night at last! Up every 2 hours but went down at 11.30. Was reading other posts and didn't consider over tiredness - as she doesn't sleep much during the day. Also thought she was two young to express and bottle but after reading others expressed yesterday and 2day so DH can feed her 2night and I can sleep/go for bath with trashy magazine - bliss.
After being thoroughly PO with jeans never fitting I ran search and found tailor made jeans site - am defo going to try when I manage to get 'back to normal'.
Have a nice day all! Wishing you all a decent sleep.

Swizzler · 24/10/2006 17:17

Emzickle and whiffy: hope you manage ok on your own. Emz: cd yoy stivk LO in car seat/chair and put her in the bathroom while you have a shower?

Rumpel: haven't tried expressibg yet, but sounds like a good idea.

pmoore · 24/10/2006 17:28

Emzickle & whiffy- I had the same feeling when OH went back to work, it is a horrible feeling. Now I constantly look for somewhere to go or someone to visit!

Had our first major trip out today- went up to London to see my work friends. Took my sister though just to make my first trip out a bit less scary.

Got my debriefing session tomorrow on my labour- will let you know if its any help.

I got out all my pre-maternity clothes and think I was expecting too much to think I could fit into any of them. It will happen though all of us will soon be our super fit selves again.

emzickle · 24/10/2006 19:36

I have been expressing quite a lot - I can get 4oz at a time, I feel like a cow.

LO has a snotty cold, its horrid!

sallyrosie · 24/10/2006 20:06

pmoore hope it goes well tomorrow.

Have to confess to feeling ridiculously smug - I CAN FIT INTO MY JEANS!!! (admittedly my 'fat day' pair and I have one heck of a 'muffin top' and have to breathe in to fasten them, but I'm still counting that as fitting...

Past 2 days been a blur as Edward has had stinking cold and been really really snuffly. Seems to be a bit better today so feeding better and sleeping better at last now back to his routine. DH went back to work on Monday and today was the first day with toddler and baby on my own. Just about survived with a lot of help from CBeebies. They're both asleep finally, DH still not home
Felt a little bit jealous when he went back to work - although I love being at home with my children I do miss work - being able to have an adult conversation, being able to have a coffee or go to the toilet in peace...

He's changing so quickly - every day he seems more and more alert and will just stare at me for ages with his big sad eyes. Can't wait till he smiles!

Hope everyone has a peaceful and quiet night...

sallyrosie · 24/10/2006 20:08

p.s Emzickle try just letting baby lie on a towel on the bathroom floor - Edward lies and watches me shower every day, think he finds the noise of water quite soothing. He also likes the noise of the hairdryer...

Swizzler · 25/10/2006 08:27

W has been upset all night - think it may be something I'm eating so am trying cutting out spicy foods etc. And I was looking forward to eating what I wanted after prgnancy . He's asleep now, though.

Not sure if W has a cold or not but he's v snuffly. Prob doesn't help re the sleeping.

DH registered W yesterday, so he officially exists! V exciting to have the birth certificate

Gemmitygem · 25/10/2006 10:08

swizzler, I'm sure spices upset them: I ate just ONE spicy sausage the day before yesterday and little one was very very unhappy in the night, crying with stomach ache! Felt so guilty!

Booze doesn't seem to bother him though

majormoo · 25/10/2006 13:04

hope you get on ok whiffy with dh away.
i am wondering how i will ever get dd to nursery on time when dh goes back to work next week!
hope edward is better soon sallyrosie. v jealous you can fit in your jeans-i am not risking going near mine yet.
hope you don't miss the spicy food too much swizzler. i am really enjoying my runny cheeses and eggs!
Feeling nostalgic already for being pregnant. Was the same last time-miss my bump. Despite the fact I was totally fed up by the end of the pregnancy. Also feeling sad dd seems so grown up. she is 3 and looks huge compared to ds and sounds so grown up. where did my baby go?

mamado · 25/10/2006 13:10

I agree Majormoo, my dd1 is nearly 3 and she seemed like my baby until last week, and now she seems so grown up and mature next to dd2. Luckily she has been fab so far towards dd2, although I expect that'll change once the novelty wears off!

I hope you all have a good day/night

totallyfloaty35 · 25/10/2006 17:36

Hi all,had rubbish night,Lexie fed every 3hrs for 40mins a time.Feel like a zombie now. Also she just filled her nappy big style it went everywhere,up her back, down her legs and i was utterly useless, just sat there screeching for my husband to do somethinghow much of a rubbish mum am i?
Got discharged from Mw today, felt quite sad,she was independant one and so supportive, feel a bit lost now.Dh has a show tomorrow so will be just me and baby,oh and my other DDs,one of which is 11yrs old and having the most horrendous pre-teen mood swings, the house is awash with hormones. My 2 eldest have managed to fight about everything, who holds the baby, who sits next to her in the car,who pushes the pram and im so not up to dealing with it i tend to just burst into tears while yelling at them to shut up

Swizzler · 25/10/2006 19:14

Totallyfloaty: look after yourself, hormones still doolally at this point (I burst into tears a few days ago when W would NOT go to sleep or feed properly when I wanted to go to bed). Explosive poos are a bit disconcerting, aren't they?
Hoping for a better night tonight having avoided chilli.caffeine/choc all day (and had glass of fizzy wine)

totallyfloaty35 · 25/10/2006 21:06

Hi ladies, can anyone tell me how long expressed breastmilk can be kept in the fridge please?
