Good afternoon all. Sounds like your doing good Clon. Edward is realy good at latching on too. Last night was a good one. Edward woke about 2.30 for a long feed. Changed his bum and he then slept till about 6.30 which I fed him in bed with me and woke about 8 when ds3 woke up. Tried to get ds3 ready and off to nursery but lo was just about screaming ready for his next feed so dh took him today but gonna try again tomm as dh goes back to work next week so Ill have to put more effort into our morning routine. Gonna try to bath both the boys together tonight and see how that goes routine wise. Well gonna ring my hairdressers now ang make an attempt to get a hair cut on Thursday. Take care all xxx

Hi there all

Am I youngest (in Mumsnet terms) infiltrate? Have to say am v impressed with source of info/support from mumsnet having only discovered it 3 weeks ago!

Anyway - my lo is on his 5th day and things are going pretty well (he is my second and I still have dh at home and dd1 in nursery initially so I take may hat off to those of you who are managing with toddlers at home.

jmc - my lo has slight tongue tie too, how did you go about getting it sorted? whereabouts in the country are you. I looked it up last night in the archives and it would explain a number of the feeding problems we've been having although they are getting better. Went through hard time with cracked nips and mastitis etc with dd1 so had the industrial pump and shields ready and they have helped. However from what I can gather, if we are to get it sorted it is a minor thing to do while they are ickle. Would love to compare notes with you if you are up for it.

Sally Rosie - impressed and amused by the bedtime routine for 2, don't think we are quite there yet but will return to that one!

Now ladies, I remember the first 6 weeks being absolute hell with dd1 - non stop feeding and not being able to do anything in the day. Things are going suspiciously well right now so am fairly sure that is becuase we are in newborn luxury land. When have your little ones started kicking off? (assuming they have?

Well Lexie must have worn herself out with all her screaming as she slept from midnight to 7am and today she has been back to her calm self, conclude it was an overdose of apples. But thanks for tip Millee i may well introduce fennel tea to my diet.
took baby to health clinic, she now weighs 9lb1oz,am very pleased as thats a pound on in less than 2wks,but it looks like i may have an infection, been feeling queasy and pre menstrual and lochia got heavier and more bloody(sorry tmi) got to see dr on thurs for more antibiotics, seem to be living on them since i gave birth

wuzzlefraggle · 07/11/2006 16:46

hi girls. my babies here now (theres a thread with the gory details on in the birth announcements). nov 1st, 8lb4 with a mop of beautiful black hair

hope that you are all doing well and i will catch up very soon xox

Rumpel · 07/11/2006 17:04

Hi All,

Totally - my LO got milk spots on her face/neck shoulders at 3 wks, they are goimg now, she'll be 5 wks tomorrow.

Martha - know what you mean. It is really hard when you are totally knackered and need some time for your own sanity and they just will not stop crying - and you just don't know why!

Had a hellish night last night. She didn't sleep at all all day and was wired by last night - took ages to go to sleep and only slept for 3 hours and then I had to get up as I had a docs appointment this morning. Took a swab to test for womb infection - am not sure about the lochia thing as I had to have everything manually removed in theatre, however been having pains and a few symptoms so thought it best to get checked out.

Took Amber to baby clinic yesterday and she has finally, at long last passed her birthweight WHOOPEE 7lb4oz at last - she is 5 weeks tomorrow. It's quite weird seeing all the other babies isn't it? They all look and sound so different to yours. My LO has great big hands and feet and she is long and thin with a failry good head of hair and boy can she cry!! She is sooo loud and has a terrible temper!!

Am staying in the next few days as have been out and about the last few and am very tired now.

Wish I could get back to pre preg weight - am officially a fat pie!

Fingers crossed we all get a good sleep

Rumpel · 07/11/2006 17:12

Dashingredhead - congrats - just saw your announcement post. was positive we would have a red head, couldn't believe it when the midwife said she could see dark hair!! It is going stawberry blonde now though!

Swizzler · 07/11/2006 18:45

Yup, W has spots too - only on the face at the mo.

I'm using a Wilkinet sling - q, complicated to put on the first time round, but it gets easier and it doesm't seem to knacker my back. It's also a fetching shade of green corduroy

Welcome Wuzzlefraggle - just saw your announcement on the antenatal thread. Sorry you had such a rough time. How's Anna settling in to the Wuzzle household?

Hi there Clon: glad your DH is being supportive. Did you manage to get all the building work done?

Re routine, every time I think I know what's going on the baby cunningly changes his behaviour - good way to keep mum on her toes. He's started crying after lunch instead of in the evening - why?? Perhaps I should give up predicting these things and go with the flow

V impressed at those managing solo shopping/beauty trips. Must get to the shops at some point to get some clothes that fit. Keep putting it off in case I magically drop another half stone - as if!

majormoo · 07/11/2006 18:58

congrats dashingredhead/wuzzle.
DH has taken ds who was crying on me for an hour and promptly went straight to sleep as soon as DH picked him up!

First week without help this week as my mum has gone home and DH back at work. Felt very proud I managed to get all 3 of us out of the house yesterday for DD's 'Jumping Beans' session (lots of 3 year olds running around a hall pretending to be butterflies, worms etc) We were there first and one mum said she was very impressed I was even wearing make up. Still it didn't start til
11.15am!

hopeless at catching up with everything but congrats rumpel that anna has regained birth weight

totally hope you are better soon

better go and feed DS for a change. He was weighed today and is now 10lbs 8oz-not a surprise to me that he has put on so much. He never stops feeding. MIL has offered to babysit sat night for an hour so we can go out for a drink so need to sort out some expressing. The thought of an hour to myself-bliss

girlygale1 · 07/11/2006 21:01

Hi, goodness only knows what kind of routine we have. Its the routine-less routine!

Megan fed at 12am last night, finished about 12.40ish (very slow feeder!) then woke at 4am Don't know how I'll cope getting her and dd ready on Friday morning to get dd to playschool! Any advice really gratefully received!

Better go - dh wants an 'arty piccy' of his hand holding lo's ... this should be fun!

nicand2 · 07/11/2006 21:03

Totally - it's funny that you should mention bleeding as I was wondering when it should stop, mine seems to have got a bit heavier in the last couple of days and I've had some mild cramps too does that sound like an infection? i'm assuming it's too soon for my periods to be starting again??

PrettyCandles · 07/11/2006 21:11

I had a 'just smile at the dear little HV' moment this morning.
"He's nearly regained his birthweight' she said, "I'll weigh him again next week"
"No you bl**dy well won't you silly woman" I thought - but did not say aloud. Eventually persuaded her that there was no need to fuss over us any more.

FGS the baby weighed 11lb at birth and 10lb14.5oz today! AFAIam concerned, he's regained his birthweight.

After she left he weighed even less, as he filled three nappies in 20min!

Ah, the delightful obsession with bowels...

PrettyCandles · 07/11/2006 21:14

Nicand23, it can vary. I remember with dd my bleeding stopped completely at 3w, and restarted at5w for 1w. I thought my periods had restarted, but it was just a hiatus in the lochia.

I think that, if you had an infection, there would be a rank smell, and you would feel generally ill, rather than period pains.

Gemmitygem · 07/11/2006 21:22

congrats wuzzlefraggle, and welcome to the other side! How are you feeling now

littly was weighed today and is 4.2 kg, which is great as he was born at 2.8 kg.this prob down to the fact that he is a real trougher, just like his mother!

nicand2, bleeding coming back can be when you are doing too much - every time I do any exercise at the moment the bleeding comes back a bit, so it couuld be that you need more rest (if only all of us could freeze time while we went off for a LONG sleep!

MadamePlatypus · 07/11/2006 21:31

purpleluce, I feel the same as you, just waiting for it all to kick off. DD only 2 weeks old and still sleeping alot. I seem to remember the marathon feeding sessions starting at around 3 weeks.

I am impressed with sally rosie's bed time routine. DH back to work next week and I am trying to work out how to get both children to bed and have an evening meal before midnight. I think my problem may be that I am imagining the baby going to sleep before the toddler, whereas I may be better off doing things the other way round as DS (3 this month) in theory can be left to go to sleep by himself. Would be interested to know how those of you who have more than 2 have coped with this before...

Gingeme · 08/11/2006 10:02

Good morning ladies. Edward has milk spots on his nose. Theyll clear when theyre ready.
re lochia and periods. The lochia lasts anything up to 5 weeks I think. If I remember rightly I didnt have it when I had my 6 week check after each ds. Your periods may not return for anything up to 6 months if you are bf. And dont be fooled that if your not bleeding your not ovulating because thats what I thought and thats how ds2 got here.
Tried the bahttime routine again last night. Ds3 was bathed and in bed by 8 and lo was washed and fed and in bed by 10. He then woke again at 2 for a feed then again about 7 for his breakfast so I actualy managed to take ds3 to nursery on my own this morning. lo got his hearing test this morning. Im sure there is nothing wrong with his hearing as he already listens to my voice and especialy his big brothers voice . Were off down the post office now. Catch all you ladies later xx

sallyrosie · 08/11/2006 10:10

totally - if you're on antibiotics then they may be upsetting LO's tummy. I've had 2 courses so far for mastitis and they definitely upset him - but better that than he has a poorly mummy.
Would second the fennel tea.

Edward has quite a spotty face but not milk spots - red spots - its quite dry though and cleared up a lot when we put moisturiser on it.

I'm really enjoying being a SAHM this time round - we go to loads of activities and it is just fab. Dreading feb when I'm back at work

Thinking of all those with infections. Take it easy and look after yourselves.

Going to baby clinic this am to see how fat babe is now. I find it weird when people talk about babies regaining their birth weight - Edward had put on another pound and a half by 10 days!

pmoore · 08/11/2006 12:25

Going to get LO weighed today- starting the new mums and baby group. Bit nervous as I am not really a group person but hey, I am a mum now have to be brave.

Am managing to feed LO breast milk again just for morning feed and topping her up with SMA. It is making me feel a bit better about giving up and a lot less stress this time.

Dieting is going ok but it hard to prepare stuff when they are little. All I want for Christmas is to be able to get back in my jeans!! Now I'm not asking much am I!?

nicand2 · 08/11/2006 13:27

HV has just been and lo has put on 1lb in just over 2 weeks and now weighs 11lb 10oz!!

Not a great night again last night, Toby wouldn't settle for dh after his 1am feed he seems to be really colicky (lo not dh!!) I think I'm going to try a dummy tonight just to see if it means he will settle by himself rather than us rocking him to sleep.

Going to the registry office soon to register the birth then I can finally send off the chb claim form.

marthahm · 08/11/2006 14:11

dd is covered in milk spots on face and neck as well as dry skin-lucky we think she's the most beautiful baby in the world!

Swizzler · 08/11/2006 14:51

Just back from baby clinic - W now 10 lb 11! Over 3 lbs in 4 weeks - now I know where all the milk is going . He managed to pee all over the changing mat when I undressed him (nice). Go v confused as to what I was supposed to do - brain really has fried...

Haven't gone to many baby things yet, but will make the effort more (brain allowing). Just getting out of the house for a walk every day is a major operation.

purpleluce · 09/11/2006 09:41

Wow Gingeme you get my supermum award from what I read this morning!

Madame platypus, you have a week on me so keep me posted just fingers crossed for me

Questions - when do the night sweats start - I remember those (and think they were good for weight loss too)

Also those of you with mastitis...also holding my breath on that one, I was given a homeopathic remedy last time called phytolacca which seemed to sort it out along with some ibuprofen and hot flannels for 24 hours. That way I could avoid antibiotics which can be helpful if you think it is upsetting lo.

Off to feed...we are only managing on one side and deliberating about sorting the tongue tie, I feel very lobsided currently despite expressing but am just pleased he has started to feed well

Laters

Gingeme · 09/11/2006 10:35

Thanks pyrplace but Edward called me a liar last night. Bathed the boys together last night which ds3 found very exciting and enjoyed splashing lo on his belly. Dried and pyjamad both and put lo in his basket while I read ds3 his story. Settled him and went to my room to feed lo and settle him. Well was in the bedroom till 10.30 in the end put my jamas on and co slept with lo till dh came to bed and put him in his basket where he slept till 3 for a feed. Put him back in his basket till 6.30 where again I put him in bed with me. So I think I spoke too soon. Never mind its all trial and error at the moment. He is only 2 weeks old after all.

emzickle · 09/11/2006 11:22

morning all, how are you?

Im really struggling to be bothered to clear up my house, I just want to cuddle LO all day.

purpleluce · 09/11/2006 11:43

4 children though, that is more than a full time job isn't it - I went to bed with little one at 8.30 other night. Keep reading things on sleep associations etc shouldn't cuddle/rock etc and then think sod it lo is so cuddly and sleep is sleep!

DD1 wouldn't sleep in day time for first 3 months or not predicably so was continually over tired and I spent my life with her attached to me when I think she actually caught some of her daytime zzzz's and I got very sore nips. Am swaddling for Britain this time and putting lo down so we shall see how we go.
