Ooh holidays. We have been very lucky that my parents usually give us money specifically for a holiday for Xmas. Without that we'd not have been in a position to go.

GT Thanks no, he isn't being fair to you.

Miss, glad he's grovelling appropriately. Good thing he sees it was not appropriate, although annoying not to have known that from the off. As for dealing with 2 - like YW says, it really does make you appreciate how easy newborns are generally. Being tired second time around seemed easier in some ways - I thought knew it would end eventually - but harder in others - bit having nap time with the baby because of wanting to play with the toddler.

S turned 2 today. Had a little family party and cake which I made, having had very grand plans for how it would look. Obviously I wasn't able to pull off the cake I had in my head it looked like crap so I blamed the DC but S didn't mind - he blew out the candles 3 times because it was so much fun!!

Lily311 · 02/11/2014 18:20

Happy birthday S!!

Wandathewindfairy · 02/11/2014 18:27

Happy birthday to S

Elizadoesdolittle · 02/11/2014 20:17

zamboni happy birthday S. I bet the cake was better than you thought. I am going to do a shop bought cake for E so you've done better than me.

miss how lovely to have dh at home for so long. that will be a massive help to you. Especially since you're having a c section. I'm trying to think back to when E was born and what it was like. I mainly remember having to make sure DD1 wasn't pushing her too high in the swing or dropping her on her head. You'll find the nb just slips naturally into your routines.

yw what sling do you have? I have been toying with getting a new one. only ever had a baby bjorn before and I know they are frowned upon. I know stunt is an expert on baby wearing. I really need something simple though. some of them look a bit far out for me Blush

Electricity issue still not solved. DH got more ext cables to run from the outside so we now have working dishwasher/washing machine/kettle and wi fi to add to the list. in fact the only thing now not working is the boiler. It's warm enough here at the moment but temperature is due to drop tomorrow so hopefully won't be long till fixed.

StuntNun · 02/11/2014 20:59

Eliza most people find a stretchy wrap such as a Close Caboo or a Moby is good with a newborn. If you want something similar to the BabyBjorn then a Manduca or an Ergo is good. Can you get to a slingmeet near you.

I'm using the ergo with newborn insert - its amazing. She's in it for hours a day Smile

Pikz · 02/11/2014 21:09

Happy birthday S Grin

StuntNun · 02/11/2014 21:26

Ooh there's a thread on slings for newborns.

Elizadoesdolittle · 02/11/2014 22:13

Thanks stunt will check out that thread.

yw My friend has an ergo and loves it. Her little one (well not so little, she is a hefty 10 month old now) looks so comfy in it.

isles7 · 02/11/2014 22:30

Thanks wanda I have a v similar bag! Just got an email from asos saying my dress is out of stock so they're refunding me. I'm gutted! So if you could find me something to actually wear that would be amazing! Haha

Can't help with sling chat, sorry. I had a baby Bjorn but it hurt my back a lot.

Tonight's bedtime went like this;
Me - "go to sleep m"
M - "can't"
Me - "why not?"
M - "duck's sad"
Me - "oh! Why is duck sad?"
M - "duck didn't say night night to grandad"

Cue a 20 min tantrum until I phoned my stepdad (she wasn't interested in speaking to my mum!) so she could make her toy duck quack down the phone and wave its wing. Sweet, but totally unnecessary. She's gone to sleep quite happy now after also getting a bit upset about "mummy's broked car". I managed to talk her out of going outside to kiss it better... Hmm

YellowWellies · 02/11/2014 22:53

Awww Isles cute! J won't go to bed unless he's kissed Lillemor goodnight and recited who he loves (me, DH, Lilla, Betsy, pusskin, Aunty Mia, Willow, Jacob, Grandma, Grandad, Babcia and Dziadek). He also now kisses me like a Mafiosi kingpin - he cups my face in his hands and delivers a big snog.

I'm finding this a very awesome age. Do you think he'll be too young for a big fireworks display? I don't want to scare him but DH and I adore bonfire night.

Elizadoesdolittle · 02/11/2014 23:00

My friend has a babasling which she said she'd lend me. Any experience of those stunt? I looked at the ergo but goodness me they are expensive!
Shame about the dress isles. Was so pretty.

yw we are doing our first big firework display this year. before this we had just done fireworks at a friend's house which were brilliant anyway. But DD1 just hid and watched them from inside. I have a feeling E will be terrified but hoping it won't traumatise her forever.

StuntNun · 03/11/2014 07:27

My brother has a Babasling Eliza and personally I don't rate it, I think it would get sore very quickly as the weight goes on one shoulder. If you want a full buckle carrier then the Manduca is the cheapest option (£86 from Amazon or Kiddicare) because it has an integral newborn support so you can use it from 3.5 kg whereas the Ergo and the Tula you need an additional newborn insert (I think for the Tula you can use the Ergo insert). I sold my Manduca the week before I found out I was pregnant but I think I'll get another as my DH got on with it really well. Avoid BabyBjorn or any other narrow based carriers as they are uncomfortable for both the baby and the wearer with the added risk of making hip dysplasia worse if your baby has it.

StuntNun · 03/11/2014 07:32

You can see from the photo of the BabyBjorn that the baby is in a very unnatural position. Compare that to the baby in the wrap, which is how your baby would be held in a wide-based carrier, wrap, ring sling etc. you can see that the baby is in a very natural position, this is how you would hold a baby in your arms with one arm under the legs and one arm around the back. With an older baby then you would have the arms and shoulders free and the legs more around your body but you would still hold them the same way: around the back and under the legs. That's why a sling is so good, the baby conforms to the shape of your body in a natural position so you are both comfortable. The baby's weight should be supported by your shoulders, back and core so you don't get sore. And best of all you have your arms free.

That will be my mission today isles!

yw it depends on J but I haven't been to a bonfire in 10 years because I always have someone who find it too noisy Sad I wouldn't take O I think it would be too noisy but DS1 would be ok. When dS1 was a baby we all trooped up to Ascot Racecourse enjoyed the fair, then had to walk home because DD2 was scared. We watched them from the living room window whilst watching Strictly. I love bonfires too. Soon. Soon.

Wandathewindfairy · 03/11/2014 11:13

Wowser.

Is lonely In here.

YellowWellies · 03/11/2014 11:18

Come over and bake me dairy free cookies or hold the baby Wanda? Smile

Lily311 · 03/11/2014 11:36

Or come over here and write an assignment about something I don't even understand ? This is my first Ou course I need to look up words in the dictionary. Scary.

Been up since 4, I'm tired.

Elizadoesdolittle · 03/11/2014 11:50

Thanks stunt I think I'll give the babasling a try since its free. if I don't get on with it i'll possibly look for a 2nd hand ergo. I'm not sure how much I'll use a sling so want to make sure I will make use of one at all before I splash out on whatever one I choose. DD1 was in the sling more than E was. I hardly used it with E which is odd as you'd think with a toddler and a nb I would have used it more. Although I have a feeling this one will be in it a lot more to avoid having to take the double buggy everywhere.

wanda if I was nr by I'd pop in to keep you company and to avoid let it go which E has had on repeat for the last hr and to make use of your heating as ours still isn't fixed.

Still I've taken advantage of being at home this morning and done lots of boring jobs so feeling quite satisfied.

PetiteRaleuse · 03/11/2014 12:45

wanda come over here and do my business studies assignments for me. They are based on Australian company law so freaking useful to me Hmm

PetiteRaleuse · 03/11/2014 15:37

No takers? Grin

Wandathewindfairy · 03/11/2014 15:52

Sorry pr, that sounds far too intelligent for me.

Currently on playground duty as the boys play swords with garden canes and test out the reCh of the puddle splash.

Of all the options I think baking and newborn cuddling won the day!

misslaughalot · 03/11/2014 17:38

Thanks YW, we have only bought 2 new items in preparation for this baby, a new mattress for the Moses basket and a boba sling. I have a mei tai already but wanted a stretchy wrap for the first few months.

I have had a decadent afternoon to myself after my final MW appt this morning. Nandos for lunch and then a cinema trip this afternoon to see Gone Girl. Loving this part of maternity leave when O is at nursery but baby isn't here yet. What to do with myself tomorrow?! Maybe some baking or soup making in preparation for next week?

Zamboni · 03/11/2014 20:41

Best use of start of mat leave Miss Grin

Rowingdowntheriver · 04/11/2014 06:36

Morning! Popping by to say hello. Am quite busy these days so don't get a chance to get on Mumsnet much anymore. Unfortunately as I run my own business I couldn't really take any maternity leave after I was born so have had to juggle having a baby with work and my two older boys. It's been a challenge and I do miss the chance of having a normal maternity leave.

on the whole I have a reasonable balance as my 2 boys go to nursery 3 days a week so I try to work 2 of those days (with I on my lap) and have 1 fun day with I.

Am going to catch up on the thread gossip while DH fetches me breakfast in bed (only upside of being up in the night feeding a baby!)
