Happy Birthday to Joey!

sm I'm don't have any experience with CM's but if I were you I would go with my gut instinct, I would expect a CM to follow my requests regarding naps etc and as you have already spoken to her about this and nothing has changed, will it ever. Hope Joey has a better day today

Hi stinky (is this a permanent name change btw? hope not )
I would agree with the others that if you're not happy then take him out and try something else.
We are back home today (currently dog sitting for inlaws) as Johnny has a hospital appointment this afternoon to get the results of the blood tests for his egg allergy. I am a bit worried about it which is completely irrational! We know he has the allergy and we are dealing with it properly, so the test results are not going to change anything really. Ah well, motherhood wouldn't be the same if there wasn't always something to worry about!! We are home much earlier than the appointment so we have time to go to our local toddler group and then JOhnny can have a nap in his own bed!

stinkymalinki · 22/02/2007 14:03

It should technically be 'slinky malinki', as in the cat (childrens books by Lynley Dodd, very good), but Joey can't say slinky - when he tries, it comes out as more like 'stinky', and so the name has stuck

Thanks for all your advice re the CM. My next worry now is how to actually give her notice, and what reason do i give? (i'm too much of a coward to tell her exactly why!)

I'm sure Johnny's test results will be ok. Like you say, you already know he has the allergy, so its not like there should be any big shocks.

Joey is now registered to our local library. He was given his own little card and everything. Now you'll probably all jump on me and say your LO's have been registered for months, and i'm waaay behind! Take care All, SM x

Yokefleet · 22/02/2007 15:56

SM I would say "change in circumstances" covers everything then
We aren't registered at the library yet as they are in the process of moving Thomas would only try and eat them at the moment anyway
mb I can't imagine having an egg allery, its in all sorts of things you wouldn't expect isn't it.
We are back to giving Thomas two naps here, as he was only sleeping for about 20mins most days, whereas I don't know if it is related to the MMR but he has slept for an hour every 11am nap this week (actually went and woke him after 1hr 20min this morning as we were meeting friends for lunch) and he is sleeping for anything between 30-50mins at 4pm (still sleeping through the night just the same)

mawbroon · 22/02/2007 18:34

stinky I agree that changes in circumstances would be diplomatic, but saying that, how will she ever know what she is doing wrong if nobody tells her. But that's not your job! Really you don't have to say anything but you will probably feel you have to!

And no, Johnny isn't a member of the library yet either. I reckon that it's just another card to lose in my purse!! We take books out on my card and also I because I am a childminder, I get a box of 25 kiddies books which I can change as often as I like. I will sign Johnny up when he is old enough to hand over the card to the librarian himself. We are library regulars though. We go at least twice a week and he loves it.

Our appointment was fine this afternoon. The tests came back showing a "very high" level of antibodies meaning his allergy is quite serious, but there were still the categories of "extremely high" and "life threatening" above "very high" so it's nowhere near as bad as it might have been. YF you are absolutely right that egg is in everything. And also in things that you would never expect. I almost gave him some sliced turkey the other day and thought "woah, check the packet" and right enough there was egg protein lurking amongst the ingredients. It can also be in toiletries (not that we use any on him at all) and cosmetics. Imagine some aunty or somebody going to give him a kiss and me saying "Stop. Is there egg in your lipstick?" LOL I don't think I'll take it that far!! The trouble is that "egg" is easy to spot on a list of ingredients, but they sometimes list the proteins individually and there are about 20 or so other names that egg could be listed under. Ah well. It's my payback for him being otherwise perfect.

MB!

DontlookatmeImshy · 22/02/2007 21:45

Hi all, just been trying to catch up on the thread. Didn't realise I hadn't been on for so long. Didn't help being without internet for 3 weeks. Arrgh Nearly drove me insane.

We've had the sickness/diarrhea thing twice since Christmas. Lol at Elfs dh putting his hand in a puddle of sick, reminded me of when ds has such exlosive diorrhea some escaped onto the duvet cover and we didn't realise until dh put his face in it.

Mb - ds also seems to be having a growth spurt. Dh and I had both been saying we thought he grown this week, and then someone else said today he looked taller than he did last week!!. Wouldn't be suprised,he has notstopped eating. Took me a while to realise the whinging was due to hunger, poor little fella.

Blimey, joining libraries and drawing with crayons. I must be a bad mother, we haven't done anything like that, (although he has done a nice squiggleon the Megasketch thing)

Ds is walking absolutely everywhere at the moment. He goes and gets his shoes off the rack whenever we put his coat on to go out, sometimes he'll just get them when he decides wants to go for a walk and we have to do a lap round the block where he'll point and shout at any wandering cats and run after them lol.

And we finally got him sleeping through without having to use cc, but then he started teething and had another d&v bug so his whole routine has gone a bit pear shaped. Ah well, fingers crossed he'll soon be back on track

ELF1981 · 22/02/2007 21:49

DLAMIS - aw, the routine will settle back in a bit.

Evelyn also does the whole shoe / coat thing, which I dont mind, I do mind though when she wont put the coat I want on! She has three coats (blame my family). One getting too small, ones a winter and one is more lightweight. I'll pick the right one for the weather, and damn me if she doesn't go pick the other / the almost too small one. She has a fit if I dont give in, stroppy madam! Doesn't get it from me

In my area it's an automatic sign up to the library, they do a scheme through the health visitor and send a pack which includes a card for the nearest library, a few free books for the kids and leaflets for the parents. One of Evelyns fave books is one she got free!

Yokefleet · 23/02/2007 07:58

MB is it something he will grow out of or is it for life?
dlamis I can't wait for summer to get rid of this cycle of colds, my niece gets it passes it onto Thomas who passes it back to my niece and so it goes on (one or other of them have had a cold/cough since early December)
elfdlamis what cuties getting ready to go out! Thomas is fine when I am getting his shoes on but if he sees me coming with his coat he runs away yet he loves being outdoors and is fine once it is actually on.
elf the library scheme sounds really good in your area, we were given a few books at ds 8month check, 2 in Welsh & 2 in English all are firm faves with Thomas.
Well I am finally getting back into exercise and healthy eating, have managed to exercise every day this week, I decided that I would get up at 6am to do it (an hour before dh gets up for work) so I am doing 35mins on cross trainer and having a shower before we wake Thomas up to take dh to the station. At the moment I still weigh 1/2 stone more then when Thomas was conceived which is really bad considering I weighed less then that after Thomas was born I was already overweight at that point and I want to get rid of this excess before we start trying for another little one at Christmas

OP posts:
mawbroon · 23/02/2007 11:21

YF. Most kids outgrow this type of allergy between 4 and 6 but Johnny's cousin didn't outgrow his until he was 8 so I would be willing to bet that he will be similar. We are going next week to get his MMR done in the hospital. what a carry on. I bet nothing even happens! (Not that I want it to of course)

ELF1981 · 23/02/2007 19:49

My latest dilemma... woe is me

DontlookatmeImshy · 26/02/2007 09:01

Blimey Elf. Sounds like a nightmare.

Hope you get it allsorted asap

Yokefleet · 26/02/2007 10:40

ELF That is really bad
Thomas is poorly again, going to the Drs after morning surgery and you all know how long that could take with my GP, we arent' sure if it is something to do with the MMR he had 11days ago or if it is just his back teeth coming in but he hasn't eaten since Friday lunchtime and is very upset, dozy, clingy and not himself. It has been an awful weekend both dh and I are exhausted from looking after Thomas, it has been harder then when he was new born as he just can't be put down This morning ds didn't wake as early and when he did was v.upset gave me chance to give him some calpol and he started dozing on my chest again but I was in desprete need of the loo ([blush}sorry if TMI) so I put him down in his cot expecting a scream and he has gone straight back off to sleep again (been over an hour now)
Hope all of you and your little ones are having a better time of it at the moment

mawbroon · 26/02/2007 10:47

Oh Elf - I haven't read the whole saga re your DH's work, but what I have read sounds pants and very stressful for both of you. I hope things are resolved soon.

Johnny seems to be suffering from chronic seperation anxiety at the moment. His whole world collapses if I dare to walk a few steps away from him and he is constantly clamouring for a quick breastfeed. It's not the milk he's after as he's only on for a matter of 20 seconds or so then he's wriggling to get down. He has also started crying when he wakes in the morning and also from nap time. He used to just blether away quite happy but now he complains until I go to get him. He is waking at 6am ish which is earlier than usual but he won't go back to sleep, presumably because he doesn't want to be alone. This means he is grumpy and tired mid morning which is a joy

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

mawbroon · 26/02/2007 10:50

X posts YF. Sorry to hear you are having a difficult time with Thomas. I hope the wee mite is back to normal soon.

Yokefleet · 26/02/2007 11:08

Johnny too MB Its hard been a mom in't it!! Thomas always chatters when he wakes in a morning and screams blue murder after waking from a nap (takes 5-10mins to calm him down after his nap, unless we happen to have had the nap in the car) Thomas is clingy with me until he sees grandad (my dad) then I am forgoten about and grandad gets all the attention!

OP posts:
DontlookatmeImshy · 26/02/2007 14:16

Mb-ds is the same here too. Constantly trying to lift up my top to have a 20 secondfeed then wriggles to get down, then as soon as he's down he wants to be up again. He's had 4 feeds already today and it's only 2pm!. I think it's a combination of teething, getting over his d&v bug and a humongous growth spurth all at the same time.!

mawbroon · 26/02/2007 14:27

don'tlook - I am trying to deal with the "pick me up, no, put me down, I want to breastfeed, oh, no I don't" by going out a lot as it seems to distract him, but it's not always possible and that is when it gets difficult. How are you getting on with the egg allergy btw? Have you had any tests done?

I have just sent in a hilarious tip to MNHQ btw. Hope it makes "tip of the day"

DontlookatmeImshy · 26/02/2007 14:37

It's a relief to know it's not just us that's going through it. I was beginning to wonder if it was just me starting to go wrong. We've been out alot too,but he did try and do it at toddler group last week. I think everyone else was too busy to notice though.

We're still waiting to hear from the hospital about the allergy/MMR stuff. The doctor wrote to them before Christmas!!!. I chased them up a couple of weeks ago but still nothing so will have to become annoying, pestering parent soon.

Have you got a date for Johnny MMR now you've had the test results.

mawbroon · 26/02/2007 16:24

Gosh that's a pain having to wait so long for a hospital appointment. Ours was pretty quick and we are going for MMR on Wednesday. The appointment is at 10am and I was told by one person that we would have to hang around for an hour after and told by someone else that we need to wait for two hours afterwards so who knows how long we will be there, probably all morning!! I would keep on at them to be honest because now I know the information, I feel a lot less worried about the whole allergy thing tbh. Re the breastfeeding, I am just going with the flow and do sometimes feed him when we are out places as it seems to "reset" him for a bit, but I don't do it at the first tug on my jumper, he has to persist a bit more than that!! I am also concerned about the huge amount of food he is packing away, so I feel that if he takes a long feed at any point, he must need it and has to work for it rather than just scoffing down anything that's handed to him (which believe you me he does!).

Yokefleet · 26/02/2007 21:56

Well after I last posted I changed him and noticed a spot like rash all over his chest and back. The Dr has diagonsed "Guttate psoriasis" caused by a throat infection so Thomas is taking Penicillan (which I have an allergy to) he has had one dose so far and seems ok so I am just keeping an eye on him and hopefully he will pick up soon

nannynickers · 27/02/2007 11:05

ELF I just skim read your problem with DH's work. How is that coming along?

Have you thought about filing a tribunal anyway? You can file with no obligation to see it through but his employer would then know he means business and no more dicking around.

I had to go through the same thing recently when I was made redundant on the week I was due to return from materninty leave. The scummy b4stards ended up accepting blame and settling out of court... However this still left me jobless.

Which was the other point I was coming to, your DH should decide if he want's his old position back as when you file you have to state what you want from the hearing i.e. reinstatement or compensation.

mawbroon · 27/02/2007 12:24

I have a penicillin allergy too YF and I have wondered what the procedure would be if/when Johnny needs antibiotics, but it seems like they'll probably just give him it anyway?

Elf - I was at our local breastfeeding group today (which nobody ever turns up to except me) and was chatting to the HV. She asked if I wanted Johnny's hips/ankles checked as he was breech as they have done away with the 8 month check here. Did Evie get hers checked beyond the 6 week check? I don't think there's anything wrong with Johnny's hips and ankles, but because he's still not walking, I think the HV just wants it eliminated. I imagine that Evie's are just tip top seeing she's been walking for yonks though.

I have a potential new mindee coming soon, so I should be getting the tidying up done, not MNetting!!

nannynickers · 27/02/2007 14:34

MB- Lydia had to have a hip scan jas she was breach, she had it at 11 weeks. Apparently it is only routine to check the girls as it is common for breach girls to have dislocated hips.

mawbroon · 27/02/2007 15:19

I wonder why it's more common in girls NN. I have a bicoruate uterus and Johnny was pretty squished in there and had one foot up by his ear and the other squished below for the last 7 weeks or so I suppose in theory that could cause problems. I hope not.
