Yikes. I hope the mmr is effective!
He's continuing to get better - throat & voice aside, he's back to normal :)

Bedtime #2 without a bf went without a glitch last night! except that I had a little cry about final weaning 4am feed still happens but he seems proper hungry then!

Glad you're enjoying two Hungry Grin

cuphat · 09/10/2014 08:14

This is taken from the bupa website here

"After the first dose of the MMR vaccine, 64 out of 100 people will be protected against mumps, 90 out of 100 people will be protected against measles and 95 out of 100 people will be protected against rubella.

You will need two doses of the vaccine to provide enough protection against measles, mumps and rubella. It’s not very common, but some people may not respond to the first dose of the vaccine. Therefore, it’s important to have two doses of the vaccine. This is so that the second dose can work on anyone who isn’t immunised following the first dose."

So not very effective after one dose only!

Glad he's better, Mrs and good news on the weaning front!

BeanCalledPickle · 09/10/2014 16:53

Goodness I had no idea MMR wasn't that effective after the first dose! We don't get the second until they are nearly four!

Chicken pox also needs two doses to be effective, but those are six weeks apart. As nursery currently has that circulating I am so, so glad we had her vaccinated. Small child, lingering nausea, exhaustion and chicken pox on top would not be fun.

Wow. I didn't know that either Confused Luckily I don't think DS had/has measles! But still...

DH is currently putting DS to bed by himself for the first time ever. At best, until now, we have swapped over after the bf. It's weird weird weird. I don't know what to do with myself!

cuphat · 09/10/2014 21:47

Excellent, Mrs!

Although I feed DD before bed, she's still wide awake by the end. She gets herself off to sleep so it won't make much difference to me when she stops (as she only feeds for a few minutes anyway).

HungryHorace · 12/10/2014 20:52

Bugger...the Maclaren doesn't fit in our car! Any takers?!

BeanCalledPickle · 13/10/2014 08:56

The double you bought? Thought it fully collapsed?!

OP posts:
HungryHorace · 13/10/2014 19:25

It does...but it's too long for the Golf. :-/

BeanCalledPickle · 13/10/2014 19:55

Ah yes, we squashed our beetle and made it into a passat estate. Pickles take up a lot of room!

OP posts:
HungryHorace · 13/10/2014 20:47

The Passat estate is what we will probably get next. Once I've been back at work a while and we've recovered from 14 months of mat leave in 19 months.

For now I have a superfluous bloody pram!

SunnyL · 13/10/2014 22:49

we've got a passat. its the most boring of cars but can happily fit a dog, baby, pram, travel cot and numerous suitcases in it. It also goes like a shit off a shovel Wink

I'm currently recovering from a lovely tummy bug Lily gave me. It became clear she was ill when she projectile vomited in DHs face.

He says you know you're a parent when someone vomits in your face and you don't drop them. As a police officer I think he has far more experience of being vomited on than me Grin

BeanCalledPickle · 14/10/2014 12:36

The passat is the absolute best thing ever. Still a VW so still has a semblance of cool going on, ultra reliable and can fit everything in boot. Don't think we'd manage we with two pickles though as we always end up using the back seat next to polly!

OP posts:
Mrs81 · 14/10/2014 12:42

Blush I just had to google image a passat to see what you were all on about! We have a Note. We hummed and hawed about getting a bigger car but decided that the times we need maximum capacity are minimal and for those we will have a box on the top. That way we still have cheaper day to day costs Smile But we don't have a pooch...that would change things I expect!

BeanCalledPickle · 14/10/2014 13:05

I think it's more that you can just chuck stuff in an estate without planning. My boot is always 'full' as I never think about what's in there and how it stacks up. It's basically a pit!

Currently sat in hairdressers with the hair dye making me feel ill! Planning a holiday. Where can I go next year with a 6 mo and a 2.5 year old that's hot in September, not too far on the plane, where I can rent a villa which is walking distance to easy restaurants and there is some stuff to do but not too much?

OP posts:
SunnyL · 14/10/2014 13:44

In a word Bean - Greece. We went when Lil was 3 months and it was ace. Not too hot for little one but lovely and warm for us. Also Greek people flipping love babies which makes life a lot easier when they're screaming the place down.

BeanCalledPickle · 14/10/2014 13:49

It's more exactly where that eludes me. I want a villa because I want the ability to cook and not have to go out. But I want there to be places to go out to if we want to. I want my own pool and space. I don't understand how hotel rooms work with kids as she wouldn't sleep if we were in the room and we don't want to sit in silence from 7pm! So at least two bedrooms are essential!

Pleased to see you are travelling again sunny. Woman at work refused to go overnight to Leeds because she couldn't possibly leave her two year old with his dad. Sod that for a laugh!

cuphat · 14/10/2014 15:18

I didn't think our boot was big but it can fit our pushchair, large suitcases and loads of other stuff in it. A couple of my family members tried to get our pushchair into their boots and it wouldn't go in at all! And the icandy strawberry is relatively compact so I don't know how some people manage.

I'd recommend the Algarve for lovely villas. We went there this year with DD. Short flight time, lovely weather and the Portuguese love children. We had a four bedroom villa with private pool etc, it was lovely. Walking distance to a couple of lovely restaurants (we went back to the same one over and over because we liked it so much!). And I went swimming with dolphins, which was ace!

BeanCalledPickle · 14/10/2014 18:36

That sounds really good. There are lots of villas there. One actually has the pool fenced off which seems to be rare, but is necessary as she will obviously just charge in.

HungryHorace · 14/10/2014 18:43

We are thinking of a roof box in the interim, cuphat, as we end up with stuff shoved all round the kids! It's not ideal.

SunnyL · 14/10/2014 19:21

She wouldn't go to Leeds? Feck that. I've been doing lots of overnight trips to London and the likes which has been fab but this is my first overseas trip in aaaaaaaaages.

is it bad that what I'm most looking forward to is having a poke around the market to buy fabrics. Professional consultant my arse

on the holiday front we went to corfu last year. The best bit about travelling with a proper little one was we could put her in the pram to sleep while we went out for dinner. Don't think that works so well with bigger ones??

HungryHorace · 14/10/2014 20:37

I missed that, Bean! Wouldn't go to Leeds? She'd have hated to be me and hospitalised for a week before having DS!

DD loved being with DH all the time. Not sure she really registered that I was missing. Sigh.

Oh, and I loved you AIBU too, Bean! :-)

BeanCalledPickle · 14/10/2014 20:45

The four days I had in the Lakes were the best I had all year. I am still a person aside from Polly's mum and I need to do Sarah things every now and again. I think that's ok. I don't get the 'I simply cannot stand to be parted' thing. Doesn't work for me!

Yeah no putting her to sleep in the pram ever for us. Unless it was moving. She would have been up and looking around. Worked well in Majorca as we just didn't adjust time zones so we could go out for early dinner with her and then have her in bed for nine, which is eight here, and then sit outside with a bottle of wine:-)

BeanCalledPickle · 14/10/2014 20:46

Sunny let's have dinner when you are next in town:-)

Hungry, we'll need a roofbox when DC2 comes along. We don't travel light!

BeanCalledPickle · 14/10/2014 20:54

Cup hat how you doing? Sick n stuff? I'm feeling way better now. Had an eight week scan. V reassuring!
