Sleeping bags are expensive but the amount of tossing and turning means I just can't imagine using anything else. My top tips are eBay, where you can normally buy them for seven or eight quid. Also marks and Spencer's are good, and about 18 quid but wait until you have a friends and family 20pc off.

I am in the Lake District for my weekend off child! Is awesome. I spent yesterday climbing mountains alone as the people I know up here were doing something too hard for me, so I did a six hour high mountain walk which was actually fine and a relief to know I've still got the legs to carry me up to great heights! My only annoyance is that I still wake around the time i would expect polly to have me up. And the bed is not comfortable at all! Off to clamber up blencathra and skiddaw now. People at home had been all 'I just couldn't stand to be parted from my child' but now they are jealous

I hadn't realised you'd climbed alone. Go you!

We are off to the Lakes in 2 weeks' time. No climbing for me though. Not sure my section scar is up to that. We will be doing some walking though, dependent on the weather.

DD doesn't toss and turn, but she does now sleep on her left side. I can't imagine sleeping on the bag's zip is that comfy for her.

I think I may sell all our sleeping bags on eBay. I'm going to have a big clear out on there if possible. Doubt I'll get much, but anything is better than nothing.

Mrs81 · 24/08/2014 10:30

That must have felt amazing Bean! Happy walking today as well Grin

DS doesn't really understand his duvet yet - he'd like to sleep on top of it so we kept it pulled back until he'd gone through the rigmarole of lining up his soft toys, giving them a stern talking to, hurling them out of the cot and then settling down to sleep. I tucked him in after that! He's used to a pillow though as we used one for ages due to reflux.

Anyway, duvet or not he slept 10hrs solid last night Grin Grin Grin

HungryHorace · 24/08/2014 12:20

I love listening to DD telling her toys off on the monitor. It's hilarious!

And good going there for your DS. :-) We had 10 hours, nappy change, then another 2 hours from DD. It's very rare for a nappy to last the night. :-/

BeanCalledPickle · 25/08/2014 09:16

Only climbed alone on a route I was pretty familiar with. In your previous life when you went to the lakes did you do this sort of thing as well? Or were you more a gentle potter by the water:-) What I found very encouraging were the number of kids on top of Blencathra yesterday. Not crying and looking like they'd been dragged up but actually genuinely enjoying it. Really hope that's us in a few years!

I've not walked in the Lakes, Bri has though, and done a fair bit of climbing too. I used to walk in the Peak District with a friend.

I'm more a halfway house. I like a nice, sweaty, strenuous walk, but haven't done hills / peaks much. I'd like to though, but haven't had much of a chance. Pottering isn't my style!

We will do some relatively strenuous walks now I think, building up in intensity to see how my section scar deals with it.

I hope our kids like walking / climbing too. We go to the Lakes a fair bit, so will have to get them used to it. :-)

You look so invigorated in your photos. I miss that feeling.

HungryHorace · 25/08/2014 10:19

I need to get more use out of the walking boots I bought for our honeymoon (doubt many people can say that sentence!).

AlohaMama · 25/08/2014 12:45

All this (child free) walking sounds lovely. I miss walking. Never did mountains or anything but since getting together with DH we don't really walk much at all - he has a dodgy knee. I take the kids out a lot but DS limit is about a mile round trip.

Right well we're off to France this evening, lets hope the weather improves as I don't much fancy setting up a tent in this rain. Let's also hope DD doesn't wake up the campsite too early in the morning...

Mrs81 · 28/08/2014 19:28

Belatedly good luck with the travels Aloha! Hope France is treating you all well Grin

DS had his mmr this week and got sent home from nursery with a temp of 39. Poor lamb Sad He's also lost weight, not much but enough to bring him back under his centile line. I look forward to the day where his weight is no longer a low grade worry! and will gloss over the reality of that worry just becoming about something different

RueDeWakening · 29/08/2014 09:10

I think DH and I earned our parenting gold medal yesterday, we took the kids to Legoland Grin ds1 is still asleep! The other 2 are up and rampaging, whereas I'm so tired I just want to cry. When did I get old?!

SunnyL · 29/08/2014 20:33

hi all. We're back from our holidays. Poor Lil was really quite ill for the first half. She slept for about 5 hours on the drive up and wouldn't be held or comforted by anyone except me for 3 days. I've got muscles like Popeye now! Hardest was having no mobile signal so couldn't Google all her symptoms - forced me to rely on my intuition which hopefully was right!

Turns out a 14 month old is quite adaptive to trekking round Skye on holidays. We've walked done pub lunches castles and a distillery. its been great.

We're also still in sleeping bags and loving them. I've made a few and inherited a few and bought a couple in Tkmax.

BeanCalledPickle · 29/08/2014 22:04

Same here with the MMR. They sent her home from nursery. Why I thought it was sensible doing it before three days straight of nursery is beyond me! Chicken pox jab on the other hand not a moment of problem. Was fine within a minute. I think it's mean the way they do three jabs in one go!

Has anyone noticed preferences for left or right handedness?

Lil seems to be picking spoons up with her right hand. I'm left handed and I have to admit to being a little disappointed that she might be different. After all she is my double in every other way!

HungryHorace · 31/08/2014 14:37

I've been watching for months on this one. I think more towards left at the moment. Though she holds crayons in her right hand, so maybe not!

Little miss slow teeth has got her 7th and 8th teeth poking through finally. I think there's molars on the way too. No wonder there's been rubbish sleep recently.

cuphat · 31/08/2014 16:23

Nice pic, bean. I love walking too (we had an active honeymoon too, rather than the usual), but haven't had much of a chance to do decent walks since DD was born.

Sleep is back to normal, thankfully.

DD is still in sleeping bags; we'll be keeping her in them for as long as possible. I've bought some 18-36mth ones, so she should be in them for a while yet. DD is a side sleeper now but the zips are in in different places depending on the style.

She had a rash 10 days after having the MMR. She was fine in herself though.

DD had been using whichever hand was nearest but for the past few weeks she has definitely been showing a preference for her right hand.

She has a load of teeth now including a couple of molars. She didn't have any at all until she turned one and since then they really have all come through at once!

Haven't even told DH. Am freaking, freaking out!!

OP posts:
Mrs81 · 01/09/2014 09:18

Wow Bean!! Congratulations! x
Freaking out in a good way??

BeanCalledPickle · 01/09/2014 09:24

I think so? I always assumed we'd have two. I think having two school years between them will be easier than three. But I'm freaked that I have drunk a LOT this month, taken the odd sleeping pill, had a cavalier disregard for vitamins and have eaten appallingly....

Mrs81 · 01/09/2014 09:31

That's always the way of it though isn't it? DS was conceived on holiday in France when I merrily guzzled a lot of red wine and ate a lot of yummy unpasteurised cheeses. He's fine, of course.
I'm sure beanlet will be unaffected by the past few weeks Smile

SunnyL · 01/09/2014 11:52

oh congrats Bean. fantastic news and lovely that you shared with us glossing over the fact you're freaking out

If it's any consolation Lily's early days comprised of white wine and chips by the gallon as I was in holiday in Greece. In fact it didn't get much better once I knew as all I could face was Super Noodles and toast for 3 months!

I'm getting broody. almost kidnapped a baby in ikea yesterday - Twas the parents fault for dressing it up as a cute bunny Wink

cuphat · 01/09/2014 12:30

Congratulations Bean!

I'm getting broody too. We've agreed to start ttc after Xmas.

BeanCalledPickle · 01/09/2014 14:41

Cup hat are you a recent joiner or a name change??

OP posts:
cuphat · 01/09/2014 14:52

name change - mentioned on the last thread.

HungryHorace · 01/09/2014 17:43

I can't remember who you were either, cuphat!

And congratulations, a Bean. That's awesome news. Have you told DH now?

I can welcome you to the world of 2 under 2 in 8 months' time.

And DD was conceived the month I was PICKLED! :-)
