kiwi I'm sure you are just as good as your mum and I know your dc agree! It's hard not to compare but you are doing a great job. Hope dh was home shortly after posting!

zing no chocolate or cheese is my world Sad can you have dark chocolate? I do whether I should or not!

Well after bit of a nightmare few days had lovely day today as not even tried to bbreastfeed other than first and last feed. Had several expressed bottles and 1 formula but most importantly we're both happy!

ismarah · 20/09/2014 11:09

Zing glad you have a plan and less pain, even if does mean less goodies.

Kiwi my mother would also like me to think she was/is perfect as a mother. But you know what? I was there (man) and I have my own experience that tells me that she wasn't. I'm sure the same is true for you.

Bean slept from 22.30 till 05.30 last night, and then again after 05.30 feed till 10.00. More nights like those please!

I have done one of my ambitious list and signed us up for baby swimming, starting Friday. Anyone experienced have any tips for me? We have a reusable swim nappy and a teeny tiny wetsuit. No idea about anything else.

DH slept with us successfully last night for the first time since August 7th. Although he says I now snore as much as I did at my heaviest so clearly he'll spring for a gym membership for me..

ZingOfSeven · 20/09/2014 15:22

if your mother is perfect by default you have to be perfect. if you are crap it's all her fault so she can not have been and isn't perfect because she failed as a parent.
she can choose which one she prefers

tell her that and watch her jaw drop to the floor! Wink Grin

none of us are perfect or totally crap obviously.
I reiterate: "good enough really is good enough"
don't let anyone believe you anything less than that, ok kiwi?

ZingOfSeven · 20/09/2014 15:29

ismarah

baby swim is lovely. have spare swim nappies and plastic bag - in case she does a poo in it!
I like to have a thick towel to wrap baby in so keeping them warm (usually just put them on floor, I hate those shelves).
I get dressed first quickly while baby is wet but warm, then get him/her dressed.
if you are wet and hair is dripping it's just impossible to hold them and kerping them dry!
they will be sleepy afterwards so feed them before you leave pool if you can so they don't miss a feed.
mine would sleep for up to 3 hrs so
when home I'd leave them in car seat and either have a nap or get stuff done.

Smile Thanks, ickle and Zing. It was just me doing the comparing, though. When I talked to Mum about struggling she reminded me that I'm comparing myself with her when she had teenagers at home to help out with the housework and give her breaks from the babies. I have two sisters who are 15 and 18 years younger than me. So I need to remember that sometimes the cleaning won't be done and that's ok.

Baby has fed all day today and hardly slept. I hate growth spurts.

ismarah · 21/09/2014 06:24

After nearly 3m of being a mum, I now almost always remember to go for a wee before feeding bean. #progress

liquidstatehasrisenagain · 21/09/2014 11:53

ismarah it took me a while to learn that one, now its automatic Grin.

AuntieMaggie · 21/09/2014 19:33

Hello ladies.

Can't believe ds is 12 weeks old - where's my newborn gone?

snow so there's hope for my demanding ds yet?

last weekend I gave ds a formula feed and his nappies were different for the next couple of days then he didn't have a dirty nappy on wed, Thurs or Fri but had a big one yesterday and one today but it was darker and gloopy compared to his nappies before the formula and he strained more and he used to go religiously morn and eve... now I know they're supposed to be different when ff but would one feed really affect him this much? he's been feeding normally since

AuntieMaggie · 21/09/2014 19:43

zing glad you're feeling a bit better though the diet is rubbish. chocolate is normally something I can do without but since having ds I eat it all the time.

kiwi stop comparing yourself to anyone you're doing a fab job.

ismarah I'm going to try to take ds swimming soon so let me know how you get on. ds loves bath and shower so likes water as long as it's not in the baby bath or sink... I think there's a theme here with him feeling enclosed!

liquid hope things work out on the job front.

Those of you expressing impress me - I don't get much when I try unless I do it first thing in the morning which is frustrating as I'm trying to get some together so I can have a night out!

ismarah · 22/09/2014 04:36

Well bugger. Bean has taken to kicking her blankets entirely off, which is very cute (that she can) until she wakes up freezing for a feed. What do I do to prevent her doing this?

AuntieMaggie · 22/09/2014 05:33

ds does that too and ends up on top of his blanket (he has taken to lifting his bum and both feet up and slamming them down hard or moving sideways and kicking the top of the side of the crib too!) I wrap him in one blanket and cover him in another - he can't unwrap himself but his legs and arms will be free and the blanket will be around his middle So he's not completely uncovered.Doesnt seem to bother him that his hands are freezing. I be got a sleeping bag for the winter but not sure he's going to like it.

ismarah · 22/09/2014 08:14

Thanks Maggie!

I said ahe kicks it off but she also uses her hands to shove it down. We have a summer sleeping bag we've never used so I suppose she could be in that under a blanket..

My parents gave her a fancy eiderdown duvet but we've saved that for later. Maybe it's later now?

AuntieMaggie · 22/09/2014 09:20

ds shoves it down too or tries to chew on it! I'm not sure how we're going to get on with the sleeping bag as he 'likes' his arms wrapped up when he goes to sleep... stops him flinging them out and hitting the side of the cot when I put him down

AuntieMaggie · 22/09/2014 09:24

Has anyone used those cotton hats apart from when baby was first born? I seem to have had loads bought for ds!

GrouchyKiwi · 22/09/2014 09:45

Sleeping bags are ideal for wiggly babies. You could use a lightweight one with a sheet or blanket to wrap the arms.

Re hats: since we live in Scotland I always put one on DD when we go outside. I'd also do it on warmer days if there was a breeze. The little cotton ones are good for that because they're not too warm.

Did anyone's baby start sleeping better at about 7 weeks? DD has been sleeping in two 3-hour blocks at night for the past few days, which is a wonderful change from waking every hour but I'm paranoid that it's just because she's having a growth spurt and she'll go back to frequent waking.

AuntieMaggie · 22/09/2014 11:04

Yes kiwi ds started sleeping better about then... I remember it was after the 6 week check.

liquidstatehasrisenagain · 22/09/2014 21:49

DD slept through the night last night. I think?? Was so tired I could have forgotten a night feed Confused

Plateofcrumbs · 24/09/2014 00:59

Right , I'm sick of writing lengthy updates only for them to disappear into thin air - damn the new mobile website!

So testing , testing...

Plateofcrumbs · 24/09/2014 01:03

Oh that worked at last!

Having a bit of a trying time with feeding. DS has dropped from 50th to 2nd centile, we've now got a paediatric referral for 'failure to thrive'. Just had tongue tie op this week, hoping it will help.

ZingOfSeven · 24/09/2014 09:44

ismarah

and a wee before feeding is especially important at night. I feed in bed and we fall asleep - if I don't go beforehand it's awful to try & stay awake or risking falling asleep.

I have to re-visit adult nappy ideaGrin

hope all is good.

how did baby swim go? (sorry I already can't remember who posted about it)

Squeak is having his first jabs tomorrow. eek

ZingOfSeven · 24/09/2014 09:49

oh it was you who asked. splendid.

I don't like dark chocolate but found choc chip hobnobs that are almost dairy free so I have those. problem solved.

although I really could do with a double choc & choc chip muffin this morning for comfort. had a crap night coz DD had fever and was up a lot. I already had a stonking headache and have a cold. and now it's raining. bleurgh.
lunchtime is inevitable! Grin

ZingOfSeven · 24/09/2014 09:49

I meant lunchtime NAP!

AuntieMaggie · 24/09/2014 10:01

ds had his second set of jabs yesterday :( and was weighed and is 12 lbs 14 oz now at 12 weeks but has dropped on the chart thing.

if I don't wee before a night feed I end up desperate and trying not to wet myself during the feed - ds wasn't amused when I had to interrupt mid feed the other night.

HV is banging on again about supplementing an eve feed with formula to give me a break and to get ds to sleep longer...

AuntieMaggie · 24/09/2014 10:03

Hope you're all ok - sorry some of you are having a hard time Thanks (plate you aren't the only one struggling with the mobile site - most annoying when it's taken you an hour to type something with the wrong hand during a night feed!)
