I gave birth to our beautiful boy on the 6thjuly at 2:15pm :) weighing in at 8lb10oz, our first baby and my first birth. I was induced in the friday and was already 1cm and 3/5th engaged so lil man was on his way already. I had propess and waters broke on sunday morning and from 7 i was having regular contractions and by 10:30 i was fully dilated. I had trouble at the end as i just wouldnt stretch, and had an episiotomy then two pushes and he was out! The obstetrician wanted the drip but i was doing fine on my own. Gas and air all the way through and wasnt screaming lol i just let out a loud yelp as his head came out as that hurt lol

DD has been cluster feeding the past few evenings, and I see it starting again tonight. I'm sure I'll be back to see who's around!

Just had an OMG moment when I realised I am a parent! Eeek!

Maggie - I'm just having a OMG moment myself about the fact I'm lying here wearing what basically amounts to a bra made of cabbages. Is this what parenthood is all about? Grin

Hello all can baby Theo and I join please? He was morn very late on Friday 11th and he is doing well although not sleeping on mummy during the night is a talent he needs to learn quickly! Not looking forward to milk coming in but mostly suffering from painful stitch related pains!

Finally managed to find this thread again. Grin

Well Emma is 7 days old today and celebrated this morning by bringing up her milk big time. Suspect its reflux as she does not wind easily so am halting feeding to wind every few mins and feeding her more upright position.

With feeding I have had to make the decision to not breast feed she is so used to the bottle since the hospital, also after having an emergency section I really just want my body back. DH not too happy about this but she is thriving as she is and is happy which is all I want for her really.

Sleeping fairly well at night with 3-4 hours between feeds but due the CS I cannot pick her up from the moses basket so DH is having to be awake too. Still it is quite nice snuggling up to him as he feeds her and vice versa as I was too uncomfortable for cuddles in the last month of pregnancy. Obviously when he goes back to work it will be different as he will need his sleep. Thank god we have a spare room.

Other than that all ok here apart from the shock of the black poo (curse you iron tablets) and an itchy cs scar.

So how long do you have to wind a 2 day old baby before milk comes in? Obviously didn't do it enough yesterday as had mega crying about 7pm because of wind- trying harder today!

Midwife reassured me today feeding going ok so far however waiting for milk nightmare to kick in! Love my day time snuggles so much- he slept nearly 3h in moses basket so far today- dh having a sleep so I'm on cuddle duty Smile love him so much!

Just realised I haven't introduced DS5 properly so here he is, just born and the next day. Up to date photos are still on the camera so that will have to wait until I'm not BF.

Yesterday was textbook hormonal day from hell. Hoping today goes much better. We've already had some actual sleep so it's already improved greatly on yesterday :)

Also another day of waiting for the community midwife as yesterday they recommended a follow up visit as Leo is a bit jaundiced and they also want to check on his feeding and weight. Have a feeling his weight won't be great after yesterday afternoon's issues but we'll see.

I wouldn't mind having to wait in (my stitches make it sore to walk too far anyway) if we hadn't waited in every day since Friday and only got seen for the first time yesterday Angry.

It is a bit like being on house arrest sometimes...we're suffering extra as my parents are here (1 bathroom!) AND we're stuck because of the Airshow / skittish dog combo.

Bean is feeding well though and we can already see her features changing. Last night she woke me up because she was laughing in her sleep. It was adorable!

We're just figuring out registrations and paperwork etc and planning our first big family outing at the weekend but I keeo feeling like I've not managed to put her in her carseat correctly - she looks uncomfortable. Any tips?

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 14/07/2014 21:30

Today much better day. Leo carried on the 2-4 hr gap between feeds, the midwife says he's gaining weight and his jaundice should soon go, we made it out the house to a breastfeeding workshop where the advisor gave me some good tips :)

Terrified on how tomorrow's going to go though as everyday seems to be something new!

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 14/07/2014 21:31

Sorry ismarah the only car seat tip I have is one I found out today which is that on ours the little fabric bit the harness goes through should be at the bottom, not on the baby's chest Blush

Another day of cluster feeding today. I don't mind am happily ensconced in front of the tv except with DH keeps changing the channel to Top Gear Hmm.

Today has been knackering. Baby was awake between 2 and 4am not necessarily hungry but wouldn't settle then awake again at 5:30 am :( I managed to get about an hours nap at about 10 am but that's about it. Love him so much but wish he would sleep better at night.

cluster feeding here too today. DS sleeping well in my arms but wakes up straightaway when I put him in his moses basket. He has a lot of wind too

coco808 · 15/07/2014 20:34

thanks for the mattress idea auntie. I will try anything Smile
will try putting my top in there too for the smell. Are you breast feeding? we did a marathon feed of 1 hour at 4 a.m. and I had to bring him in bed with me but it has made the nipple soooo sore

coco lots of tips on anti natal july thread re moses basket- I forget to look here too! After 3 nights where ds wouldn't sleep except on us hes spent all of last night (minus feeding time) in there- rolled up towel, my pillowcase as sheet and gradually moving them in so no feeling of being 'dropped' are all things we've tried however to be honest think its just hes drinking actual milk so feeling fuller/deeper sleep now?!

its very much feeling the cabin fever due to stitches/swelling rather than having to wait in but still can empathise and hate it!

Report
ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 16/07/2014 06:01

Yeah, we've now been discharged but the swelling and stitches do make it hard to go anywhere, don't they? I d

Report
ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 16/07/2014 06:04

Sorry, not discharged, referred to the drop in clinic instead.

I don't think I fully grasped how much childbirth would physically take it out of me at the beginning! Hope you're all managing to rest up and take it easy - can't remember if it was here or other thread but the tip about regular baths with tea tree oil was a good one (although last night's was interrupted very early on by Leo needing a feed!)

Yep lots of baths recommended however I am genuinely scared of not getting back up! Have been adding oils to a wet maternity pad and using that to comfort which is nice but not the same!

Heres my question- over night was feeding every hpur and half but only for 20mins a go- do I swap breasts each time?

Report
ismarah · 16/07/2014 08:38

It depends, Ickle. I feed bean usually on both every time although I do have to wake her up a bit inbetween..

As babies get more efficient the feed time may drop down - bean is now at about 15 mins per boob, per feed. She started off taking hours. Partly, my milk has come in, she's FF top ups and she's got better at it.

Now, if I could get my mum to not repeatedly question wether or not bean is latching / drinking / swallowing every time she sees me feed bean, that would be great.

Report
ismarah · 16/07/2014 08:42

Sorry. Didn't finish why it depends. Feeding here and got sidetracked.

If baby comes off the breast himself that can suggest he's had enough, in which case he may not want the other one. If you offer it to him and he takes it but only briefly, you should then start with that boob next feed.

Bean never comes off - she falls asleep first and then uses it as a pacifier. To each their own.
