Started a new thread for us before we run out of room.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
WLmum · 28/05/2014 06:40

Blimey willyou. Thank god I was asleep by then as T very kindly got me up at 5.45 this morning. We're out for drinks with friends tonight too. Yawn.

SpottyTeacakes · 28/05/2014 06:56

Dd woke up for a wee at 1:30 and I couldn't get back to sleep for ages. Got a headache now.

Friend coming round for lunch today not sure what to do? I fancy something really nice...

Maryland2013 · 28/05/2014 07:04

Hales good idea to ask the GP if you're going anyway. I hope H doesn't have another chest infection. DS was coughing in the night but his inhaler actually worked for a change- no more coughing after he had it but maybe it was the calpol instead, aagh

Willyou that's a LONG day! I went to bed at half ten and I'm still knackered!

Beasty I hope the funeral isn't on the wedding day :(
I had 2 grandparents die over the Xmas period and they tried to book funerals for both ony birthday in jan. Thankfully my mum objected!

coffeeandcream · 28/05/2014 09:22

Thinking of you and your family beasty :(

Hope You get to thd bottom of whatever is the cause of all Hs coughs and infections hales.

DH is working at home today so I've had a bit of a lie in and getting a manicure later - bliss!

WillYouDoTheFandango · 28/05/2014 10:16

I've started to box up my house. This is going to take FOREVER!

halestone · 28/05/2014 10:46

We saw a locum Dr who confirmed its another chest infection, shes been given antibiotics. I told her i don't really want her having antibiotics i want something to help get rid of her cough of a night. As i feel shes always going to be prone to getting infections if shes not getting the sleep she needs. And i also asked how many times she needs to be ill before they start looking at the cause more closely. I've been told to go back in 2 weeks if her sleep is still the same and they'll refer her to a peadiatric consultant! Of course shes going to be the same in 2 weeks shes been like this for ages!

I also told my dad the threads idea of cutting out dairy to see if that helps her improve. He reminded me we had already tried that a long time ago when she 1st started on milk as we thought she had a dairy intolerance then and it didn't make any difference.

Beasty, i am thinking of your dad today Flowers

Willyou, good luck with the packing.

PurplePidjin · 28/05/2014 11:43

hales stupid question but have you popped a towel under the head end of the mattress to raise it? Also, what dairy did you cut - just formula or everything including traces?

I'm having One Of Those Days after R being awake from just after I snuggled down in bed for two hours involving 3 yes 3 nappy changes Sad

SpottyTeacakes · 28/05/2014 11:48

Do you ever see the same dr hales?

Ds has been asleep for two hours so far. It's cold and miserable here.

MrsNutella · 28/05/2014 11:49

hales a friend here had a similar thing but with ears. Repeatedly told it was an ear infection and repeatedly given antibiotics for the infection. It kept coming back. If the antibiotics work it should take a few days not a few weeks for you to hear an improvement.

Friend took her LO to a different dr (here you take kids to a paediatric dr as standard when they are ill, not a GP). Anyway, 2nd dr referred her to ENT. ENT gave a totally different treatment and they stopped having problems.
Sorry, it's just that I get really annoyed with GPs when they didn't listen. I was telling my gynae how unhelpful the GP was when I was ill & pregnant or BF and that they said they couldn't prescribe me anything. Gynae basically told me what they had said was utter nonsense and next time to go straight to her.
That's why I'd push for a referral - if I was in your position and I had to I'd consider turning on the water works and saying I can't cope anymore with the lack of sleep and I'm really concerned for my LO.

SpottyTeacakes · 28/05/2014 12:06

Oh and beasty I've seen the bargain thread but have avoided it so far! We don't have any money saved for Christmas yet so, unfortunately, it's going to have to wait! I think we'll be having a small Christmas this year with minimum presents so I can spend all my money in New York

Maryland2013 · 28/05/2014 12:31

Hales I would be tempted to just say she is the same in 1 weeks even if she isn't- I agree with Nutella - get the paeds referral. GPS can be a bit useless I think you would get somewhere with paeds.
They can best advise you about the milk and stuff too and maybe done suggestions to get H eating more food and drinking more milk? Could she be in some sort of reverse cycle with her hunger so she's not bothered in the day but ravenous at night?!

I can't believe there's a Xmas shopping thread! Although I guess with our LOs birthdays being near Xmas we will need to get organised! It's not now bothered about- it's where they're bigger!!!

halestone · 28/05/2014 12:53

Pidj it was everything, as they checked her poo to see if it was an allergy and whilst they were checking i made all homemade meals so that we could see if there was any difference.

Spotty i think we've seen my GP twice and all her infections apart from this one and one other have been diagnosed in A+E.

Nutella and Maryland i already know for a fact that we will be going back for that referral. The antibiotics have never helped of a night so far. I'm just annoyed that despite seeing her other chest infections and ear infections on the computer they are still making us wait.

OP posts:
coffeeandcream · 28/05/2014 13:41

Hales you sound really fed up with it, and poor H too. I'd agree with everyone else, get that referral and some continuity of care and hopefully you'll see an improvement.

How's the packing going willyou? Much as we have a lovely home, I can't see us staying here forever, so I have a massive stack of sturdy flattened boxes in the loft and I squirrel away all bubble wrap too for when thd time comes!

MrsNutella · 28/05/2014 14:13

hales I really feel for you and H. It must be a bit frustrating to have us all banging on at you too - sorry! I would have totally gone to pieces by now because of the lack of a decent nights sleep so I really do admire you for your strength!

willyou I am no help. I hate packing. I've said to DH that I would consider starting to save now so that for our next move someone else does it! Grin

I'm really tempted to look up the Christmas thread. I think dh's family need some better ideas (for Easter/birthday BIL and sil bought DS a little bucket with spade etc. it was even smaller than the one I already bought him for 4€ - I think they can do a bit better, even if they only want to spend a little) as there are no kids in the family I can understand them being stuck for ideas. I wish they would ask. Instead I will be proactive and send out some lists. even if I look bonkers

Barbeasty · 28/05/2014 16:27

I'm using the thread for inspiration for birthdays at the moment. But I have got part of my first Christmas present already. And a jar of treacle in last week's shopping to make ginger cake nearer the time! But then I love Christmas too much

And I've just wrapped DD's birthday presents for next month. Now she can't try and get into the bags/ boxes.

We paid the last 2 times we moved. Worth every penny. They just boxed everything up on the day, and it was all ready to unpack in the right rooms.

PurplePidjin · 28/05/2014 18:34

I'm on the hunt for a wooden corner TV unit that I can paint up as a kitchen for R. I will be requesting toy food and utensils for birthday and Christmas. My dad has come up with an ingenious way to make the tap worked involving a real tap, a bit of hose pipe, and a 2 pint milk bottle :o All because I asked if he would spare me some silicon sealant when the time comes so I can give R a bit of water to splash about in the sink! I've already bought tester pots in black (for the hob) and dusky purple (for the work top) and a metal dog bowl for the sink. Just need the nice chaps at the tip to come up trumps for me now Wink

utopian99 · 28/05/2014 19:13

pidj have you tried freecycle for the tv unit? Kitchen stuff is a great idea - O loves it at playgroup but I have no idea where one would go in the new flat! He spent this morning making biscuits with my mother and father, sitting on the worktop. Very happy little man. I am having two hardcore days of work so that I can sacrifice friday and Monday to sorting out the move. I'd happily have someone pack for us in future but confess I utterly analy freakishly love the putting away again!

If they finish on time. 36 hours left. Hmm

WillYouDoTheFandango · 28/05/2014 19:14

Oh Hales that's shit.

I have packed 7 boxes (books, bedding, towels, shit from my bedroom cupboards, jumpers and gym kit) and my dad had collected them and put them in my aunty's spare bedroom. I have also bagged up 7 bags for the charity shop/church fete. I'm hoping doing it this way will make it less painful.

WLmum · 28/05/2014 19:38

willyou I hope it's not too stressful/emotional. I'm going to see a rl friend on sat eve as her DH is moving out sat daytime.
hales can you take a video to show the drs?

Unless we win huge sums of cash we won't be moving ever again! There are things I like and things I don't so much about this house but it was/is the best we can do and I know we're very lucky to have it. Off to the wine bar soon!

Stacks · 28/05/2014 19:40

I think I messages you coffee but DH had the laptop so I did it through the mobile site. I've had problems before with it not sending, so let me know if you don't get it.

I have recipes for banana, carrot, cheese and spinach, and 'extra healthy' muffins all typed up and ready to send, incase anyone else wants them too.

I've started using a meal planning/recipe app on my iPad, so I'd have typed them up anyway. It's pretty good, and free, if anyone else is interested. Called Pepperplate and has a iPhone/iPad, android and web version.

I'm working on a really slow declutter of our house just now. We want to move next year, so I want less stuff to have to pack! Not getting much done round DS though, add to that pg tired and impending baby, and I'm not sure I'll get anywhere!

Pidg, that's a great idea for a toy kitchen! I've been looking at the ikea one, but it's £65. Very nice, but too expensive for me. I've been looking at maybe making some toy food for DS, either with crochet or felt.

SpottyTeacakes · 28/05/2014 19:46

I love the ikea kitchen. We have an asda one (£25) and it's soooo nice. Ds loves it too.

PurplePidjin · 28/05/2014 20:16

Freecycle round here seems really complicated and confusing. And the chaps at the tip are really rather cute and friendly so it's not exactly a hassle, especially as I drive an estate car these days Wink I've got my eye out for a couple of other things I want that come up there sometimes too, like a smart trike type thing. I wouldn't spend a lot of money on one as it will only get used occasionally by my parents, but if one turns up for a fiver I'll grab it!

There are loads of patterns on Ravelry.com for toy food. You have to sign up but it's free. I lose days of my life to that website :o

Maryland2013 · 28/05/2014 21:27

DS has the Ikea kitchen but not the top bit so it was cheaper . He has played with it every day since we got it so well worry the money although I wish I hasn't bought the metal pans as he loves to bang them together

Hales good for you being persistent. Think it's easy for others to suggest but harder to actually do it :)

Happy packing Willyou! We also used a removal firm when we moved. I don't think id have coped!!
Happy move Utopian hope it goes ok.

Pidj we have an amazing charity shop near us that gets absolutely loads of donations. Stuff gets sold stickers on by 9:05 on a Saturday :)
Maybe something will appear somewhere local to you :)

utopian99 · 29/05/2014 07:26

Heard last night that they didn't finish sanding all the floors and will be doing that and sealing them tonight. Finally had a meltdown as moving on Friday is an arbitrary date set because mil is on half term, when realistically they could come down next weekend and be just as helpful. Have refused to play happy campers in an unfinished house and will pay myself just in order for them to stay in the local holiday inn, which will.cost a fortune, as other I think I'll end up doing/saying something regrettable. It's not even their fault, they're trying to be helpful - I told dh that it was stupid pushing it for this weekend when everything would be easy next weekend. Pissed off and miserable about what should have been a happy/exciting move.

WLmum · 29/05/2014 09:14

Too much wine was consumed -urgh!
