Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Yay Spotty :)

Hales we put bowls of boiling water in DSs room for his cough and the steam really seems to help. Also damp towels on radiators, Vicks on feet work. We also leave his door open as fresh air definitely helps. Has anyone suggested to you that the milk might exacerbate her cough Hales? Maybe just coincidence that she drinks lots of milk then cough lots. Ddas might know?

DS is terrible with fruit and certainly won't eat veg on it's own. However I'm not concerned as he eats some fruit like banana and melon eats everything at nursery APPARENTLY, dried fruit, purée on his breakfast, fruit pouches and hidden veg in cottage pie/ fish pie/ risotto. There's a good Annabel Karmel hidden veg sauce. They don't have to be munching broccoli stalks to be getting veg don't worry ;)
DS even ate veg soup today when out for lunch :)

SpottyTeacakes · 27/05/2014 18:14

Ds just bit my bloody toe ShockAngrySad

coffeeandcream · 27/05/2014 18:19

Ouch spotty!

mary - yes ! at nursery F eats everything that's offered! little sod

Thanks for your reassurance everyone, we'll just keep trying I suppose. I was thinking if making a butternut squash mash to try instead of potato.

MrsNutella · 27/05/2014 18:34

spotty I'm sorry about your toe! DS bit me yesterday. I was giving him a cuddle and he managed to bite me right on the nipple! I screamed and then burst into tears obviously because I'm a tired hormonal pregnant wreck It reealllly hurt!

DS will eat most fruit and veg. He seems to really like carrot - he'll pick it out of risotto or cottage pie. At the moment he loves raspberries. If I give him a bowl with some raspberries, blueberries and strawberries in he will eat the raspberries first. He likes banana but not if you slice it - which makes it sort of slimy - if you break him off a piece he will usually eat it.

He does not like lettuce though at all! He looks at it and hands it to me as if to say "mummy, why are you trying to feed me leaves; you don't let me eat them outside!"

SpottyTeacakes · 27/05/2014 18:39

We pretend raspberries are hats for your fingers Grin ds loves all fruit apart from pineapple, although recently he's taken to eating just half of every blueberry Hmm

Ouch Nutella!

WLmum · 27/05/2014 19:10

Ouch to bites - T bit dms nip through her t shirt the other day Grin.
Spinach and cheese muffins sound delish - will look up a recipe.
T seems a bit better today (and only one wake up last night!) but still hasn't eaten much and got really upset at tea time. Just boobing her to bed.
hales that sounds pretty selfish of your sister. Poor you and H. Are the inhalers helping?

Barbeasty · 27/05/2014 19:57

Hales when DD wouldn't let us put vicks anywhere on her body we put it on the (warm) radiator. Just don't lean against the radiator to warm your bottom DH and the ruined trousers

Of course, once they hit 2 or 3 they change what they'll eat and stuff they love now becomes the work of the devil!!

A has a fever. He's been desperately chewing, so I hope it's just teeth. A day working from home for me tomorrow.

Very glad we didn't get DD a dress for my Dad's wedding. He let us know today that they will be turning off his fiancé's life support sometime tomorrow.

utopian99 · 27/05/2014 19:57

O eats most fruit and veg and is a spinach fiend, which I find weird as I hated it till I was in my 20s. He seems to have definite bouts of food types though; mostly chicken from today's supper but potatoes were spurned.

We are temporarily homeless too willyou, out of the temp flat we lived in for a year and not moving into ours till Friday. Dh meanwhile is camping out on site in ours, balefully eyeing the builders until they finish on time!

SpottyTeacakes · 27/05/2014 20:01

Oh beasty I'm so sorry. I must have missed something as I didn't realised she had deteriorated so much. Thanks For you and your poor dad.

Maryland2013 · 27/05/2014 20:34

Sorry to hear that Beasty. Horrible time for your family and your poor dad :(

MrsNutella · 27/05/2014 21:08

Beasty so sorry to hear your sad news. Our thoughts are with you and your dad. Thanks
Like spotty I hadn't realised she was so ill.

Barbeasty · 27/05/2014 21:18

Thanks. I suspect I haven't really posted about it. It's been a quick but steady decline iyswim. So hard for Dad though. At least when mum died it just happened, no having to decide it should. Just a bit worried that the funeral will be next week and the wedding was meant to be next Wednesday.

I was going to be all smug that the mobile site is working, but I suddenly seem to on the main site and I don't like it!!

PurplePidjin · 27/05/2014 21:25
Thanks

Sweet potato is easy, just nuke it and it comes out mashed! R eats bananas from the skin, then gets all upset if you're not there to peel the rest for him immediately! He saw dp eat one like that once and has refused them any other way since!

WLmum · 27/05/2014 21:38

Sad beasty. Awful for all of you and such rotten timing. Makes me remember to be grateful for all my loved ones even the annoying ones!

halestone · 27/05/2014 21:41

Beasty Flowers my thoughts are with your dad and family.

Vicks on H's feet tonight windows wide open, no heating on as her breathing has been awful today. We have used the inhaler loads i suspect shes getting yet another chest infection as i can hear the tell tale rattle. That will mean shes had 5 chest infections in 5 months!

Nutella, it could be milk related but i only give her it after she coughs herself awake as she screams for her bokbok bottle

OP posts:
MrsNutella · 27/05/2014 21:52

hales that is surely not normal to have that many chest infections. Poor H! (And poor you taking care of her night and day). Have you thought about a referral to an ENT?

PurplePidjin · 27/05/2014 21:58

hales maybe switch to koko or another non-cow's milk type?

Barbeasty · 27/05/2014 22:07

Hales does she have much dairy during the day? At one point a Dr suggested I should try dairy free because A had a constant wheezey chest.

Spotty don't know if you've spotted it, but the Christmas bargain thread is back.

Must go to bed and get some sleep before A's neurofen wears off.

utopian99 · 27/05/2014 22:22

beasty I just realised your text must have come through while I was typing. Absolutely didn't mean to ignore your post and so sorry for your dad and your family..

WLmum · 27/05/2014 22:27

Agree with nutella - I would be pushing for s

halestone · 27/05/2014 22:28

I honestly hadn't thought of trying an alternative milk. I will look into it tomorrow. Thank you for the suggestion Pidj.

Beasty She doesn't eat much of anything in the day and drinks alot of water. I hope A is ok in the morning.

Nutella, I'm not 100% sure that it is another chest infection just noticed a few of the usual telltale signs. I am taking her to see the GP tomorrow. Hopefully he'll be able to help.

OP posts:
WLmum · 27/05/2014 22:30

Some further investigation/consideration. What if you tried gradually watering down the milk so she still gets the comfort of the bottle but over time a bit less milk. Poor both of you.

WLmum · 27/05/2014 22:32

Christmas? In May? Are you trying to tip me over the edge?

PurplePidjin · 27/05/2014 22:57

It's worked miracles for a couple of mums on the November thread :) I'd add in a multi-vitamin if dropping cows milk, or any major food group tbh. There's cows milk in a LOT of things so if you get success with an alternative milk, you might want to start checking labels for trace stuff. And bear in mind that soy molecules are a similar size and shape to cows milk ones so if you get some results from dropping milk but not a total absence of symptoms then keep that in mind.

WillYouDoTheFandango · 28/05/2014 01:09

I'm really sorry Beasty, look after your dad and give him a squeeze from us.

Hope everyone is fast asleep (especially Hales). Worked til 1am again. Too wired to sleep now.
