Arse. Just had a letter from the mayor of the village. In the first stage of primary school here, la maternelle, there are normally three groups. Because there are not enough children to fill three groups this year the LEA are threatening to cancel one of the groups. This means that next year there will only be two groups of 31 and 32 pupils!

Which is obviously unacceptable - from 3-6 the ideal classes would be 20-25 max. Anyway the mayor has said that he has written to the local press, the LEA and everyone else up to government level to try and save this class (and of course the staff who would be impacted) and will keep us informed.

I'm not sure I want DD1 going into a class of 32 at age 3, am certainly annoyed at the idea of a teacher being relocated and the TAs losing their jobs, but I have no choice. If I leave it another year she will go through the system a year behind and in the same class as LO, which would hardly be ideal. Plus she is really ready for school.

Can't change school here you go to your village school or go private, plus they need everyone they can to enroll if there is a hope of keeping the class.

It was more of an FYI actually so there is nothing I can do. I suppose they'll try and round up some of the younger children and try and fill the third class that way, but that will only hold the problem off until next year, when LO will be joining at an even younger age so I really won't want her going into such a large class.

Sorry, just ranting really.

PurplePidjin · 08/04/2014 12:40

Surely with 63 children in total that's 3 classes of 21 anyway Confused

Sophiathesnowfairy · 08/04/2014 13:37

Great pp

It is always disappointing, pr, when things don't turn out the way we had ens visages. It seems, if you don't mind me saying, that unless you move or pay then you will have to go with it, but it does seem like those class sizes are rather large. I would not want a class of 30 odd 3 year olds. Chaos is the only thing that springs to mind!

PurplePidjin · 08/04/2014 14:17

Why do you all abandon me when R decides to do epic napping?! I've had to resort to crocheting!

And I'm starving Hmm

Yeah I was just ranting really. Will just go along with it but it's a nuisance. Would never pay for private education in France - the state system is perfectly adequate and the private schools are usually linked to some religion or another and mostly, outside of Paris, shite . I think they need 66 to do three classes pidj so 3 x 22. I think. Strange system.

Pic of toothbrush thing on FB Sophia.

Erm...

ValiumQueen · 08/04/2014 15:03

Pass, he is just on Koko now, so no fucking bottles, and no dairy, soya or egg whatsoever. He is a different boy. I have started a thread in Allergies, and so far have had no comments. Only did it this morning though.

ValiumQueen · 08/04/2014 15:06

I have had my eyes tested this morning, and need to wear glasses for distance. I was asked if I wanted varifocals as my near vision is ok. I have opted to just take them off as needed. I am not old enough for varifocals Blush

Sophiathesnowfairy · 08/04/2014 15:11

Sorry pp snuck out to play some beetroot and have a weed.

Joining in the school theme.

As you know I applied for an integrated school and a Protestant school. They both had to go on separate forms because one is a nursery and one is a reception class. Annnyyyhooooo......the village, Protestant school, sent out the letters this week, (but we won't hear from the integrated school, our first choice, until the end of the month) and I got bombarded by family " have you heard of Ds1has a space at xxx school ?"

"No" I say, " I am not worried yet" I say

"well you should phone them if you haven't heard" grr

" I'm not that bothered till the end of the month" I say

"I'm sure you could phone x body did"

" anyway I wonder if you can give me some fashion advice?" Swiftly changing the subject.

So now he has his place and tbh I want to keep it quiet because until we here from the integrated school I don't want to make a big fuss.

But I was asked by another family member and I can't lie so I said yes but we were waiting and they said...

" ohhhh you know is mainly Catholics that go to the integrated school"

And I wanted to say/shout "is an integrated school it doesn't matter and anyway that is the whole point we don't want to further support segragation here. And how do you know have you seen the numbers?"

But I didn't I smiled and nodded because I don't want to get into the politics.

Is village toddlers tomorrow and I don't go but I don't really want them going round telling everyone that DS1 got a place because we don't know yet if we will accept it or not, if I am not going to see SIL and MIL before tomoz is it unreasonable for me to text them and ask them to keep it quiet? (It will be talk of the village as some people who, live right by the school have not got a nursery place)

PetiteRaleuse · 08/04/2014 15:35

^^ Knew she was on something...

play some beetroot and have a weed :o

No idea how to work that one politically soph it's the problem with very rural neighbourhoods, everyone is so interested!

Sophiathesnowfairy · 08/04/2014 15:40
Grin

I think smiling and nodding maybe the best way forward with stuff here. I suspect that is why DH is so introvert!

Sophiathesnowfairy · 08/04/2014 15:41

Bloody interest shmintrest.

I can blame it on being English and contrary!

PetiteRaleuse · 08/04/2014 15:51

The postwoman asked me in January if I had sorted out my work issues yet and were they going to hurry up and make a decision as it had been so long. I had never even mentioned them to her. She was also aware of the DDs various illnesses last year despite me not having told anyone in the village. The neighbours had put two and two together, made five, and told everyone a ague version of the non facts. Weren't too far wrong but they had decided it was LO in hospital over NYE not DD1. I thought they hadn't noticed as no-one had bothered asking me about it.

Anyway...

StuntNun · 08/04/2014 15:54

Any luck with the crayon GT?

Have you seen Underworld PR? I love Michael Sheen in that as Lucius the head of the werewolves.

I'm on level 3 of the shred Sophia . As you say I have been at it for a month or so, along with Pilates and kettlebells, and I haven't lost any weight at all so I think diet would be crucial to weight loss. The changes to my body are quite remarkable though. I have biceps kind of and the muscle in my glutes, thighs and calves are visible and palpable. My upper abdomen is looking pretty fab so long as I suck everything in. The only things I still need to work on are tricep exercises for the bingo wings and I still need to lose a bit of fat on my lower abdomen. When I started the shred I didn't have a hope of doing even one press up or sit ups. Last night I did 20 full situps in one go. I still can't do press ups but I can plank and do plank jacks etc. I'm quite looking forward to finishing the shred and moving on to one of Jillian Michaels' other exercise DVDs. The plan is to be in better shape at 40 than I was at 25.

The birthday is going well. I got a cup of tea in bed then a cooked breakfast courtesy of DH. Then he took the kids to school while I had a bath. We've been out shopping (bought a new sports bra at Belfast Bravissimo which opened yesterday) and had lunch at Wagamamas. Then we're all off out for a family dinner at the local pub and I have a bottle of prosecco chilling in the fridge for later. Best present of the day was going into Pepperberry and buying a size 10 dress. Never in my wildest dreams would I be buying size 10 clothes again.

That sounds like a great birthday stunt I like Pepperberry stuff.

Have you been doing the Shred on YouTube? I don't seem to be able to get level 2?

I have discovered I have a 2 pack also, but the bottom bit of my cesarean tummy is still there. I don't mind too much and like you say a big diff in arms. I liked the kettlebell stuff that I did at the hard core aerobics but i was struggling with the impact on knees and pelvic floor.

Lily311 · 08/04/2014 16:21
