Clapham - one year?!! Here's hoping she's given you worst case scenario! Could be a trapped nerve or something... Hmmm.

Orange I'm trying to sit upright as best I can when feeding so not sure that would be it, though I have given myself back and neck pain before from feeding bent over the baby I can never stack the pillows high enough to do the underarm feed like mw showed me!

Looks like will have to get the cosy toes out for the pram sooner than had thought if all this talk about snow is true...!

claphammama · 19/11/2013 13:57

I'm hoping to excited... as I'm trying to avoid sitting on my painful coccyx on a hard chair in the local cafe right now...

claphammama · 19/11/2013 13:58

meant "hoping too"

Natalieand · 19/11/2013 14:54

I can't remember who asked about gripe water but I too am adding to to the water of a bottle before the formula powder is added, works a treat x

whistlingdixie · 19/11/2013 15:25

Is anyone using a BF/nursing apron or similar and can make a recommendation... Any pro's & cons, things to look for or avoid when buying one? Thanks

Bronzemoth · 19/11/2013 15:39

We are on gripe water now N ia a month old. I'm bf so try to feed before and after. It def seems to help he seemed to be in almost constant distress before.

apperleydapperley · 19/11/2013 15:52

oh no, 2 days until 6 weeks, all that talk is reminding me of the horrors of that growth spurt, i shall brace myself!!

Playing catch-up here, but slippy i also have the single electric medela, which i think is great, worked brilliantly for me but I didn't express more than 3-4 times a week.

Those bf and using gripe water - how are you giving it? I tried a syringe yesterday and the poor baby nearly choked on it - it was v scary and i could hear his lungs rattling with it afterwards Sad and that was putting a bit at a time into his cheek. Does a spoon work well when they're so little, i'm scared to try again?... (it did settle him afterwards but i'm not sure that he wasn't stunned silent by the shock of it all!)

OrangeBlossom2 · 19/11/2013 16:52

Thanks all. I tried gripe water with a syringe as he was used to that with colostrum but like apperly he coughed and choked on it. Also tried on the spoon but not sure much went in. I will try adding to the night time expressed bottle later.

Just been for a walk with a couple of people from nct class. Trying to get out and do things/meet people a bit more each week.

JellyCurls · 19/11/2013 17:29

Is gripe water the best for wind then? We been using infacol but winding still a bit of a nightmare. Colisynth crystals did nothing and dentinox colief drops made baby J constipated.

Thepurplegiraffe · 19/11/2013 17:54

whistling I have the bebe au lait nursing apron from John Lewis which I found quite handy and it gives baby room to breath under it and you can easily see what they are doing. My 2 sisters both have the same one.

I am getting out and about this week, meeting up with a few people and getting used to feeding in public, at least in baby friendly places...

emmoB13 · 19/11/2013 18:22

jelly i really rate gripe water just because it settles him straight away rather than waiting for it to build up and u can give it without needing to feed if he gets uncomfortable in the day. Its been the most effective for us and hes settled down a lot more and doesn't take as long to poo when he seems like he needs to go where as before we had a good hour of withering about until he went. Apparently Costco do it in bulk so i'm going to have a nosy soon!

MrsHoratioNelson · 19/11/2013 18:53

How do those of you who are bf give gripe water? Or maybe you're not? The infacol does help I think but he still gets very uncomfortable with wind.

Ok I don't know where my post from this morning went but I like my Ardo calypso electric pump that the HV lent me.

I spent the day shopping and feel bad that I left my parents alone all day but they didn't want to come and I need things for the christening. I also went into work with J and he cried most of the time and needed feeding twice in a hour.

Another boring nursing wardrobe question: I can't find nursing bras with low enough cleavage to wear with my dress for the christening. The only thing I can think of is to wear a strapless bra and pull that down when needed. It's not ideal though. Had anyone had success with non-nursing bras that have straps? I can't find one with cups that are soft enough to be pulled aside.

Bronzemoth · 19/11/2013 19:28

I've been giving gripe water with a spoon tipping it slowly into his mouth while he is sat up. He then glugs it down which is so cute. Earlier on I tipped the water in while he was crying and he choked on it. I felt terrible??.

OrangeBlossom2 · 19/11/2013 19:29

ana Could you fold and pin/sew the cups down a bit? The "Sophie" maternity bra was lower than others in bravissimo. Not sure if the same is true with the nursing version. Or wear a vest top under the dress to cover the bra if that wouldn't ruin the look of it?

Kelly1814 · 19/11/2013 19:47

Hi ladies. Just found this thread, so great to hear everyone's updates and stories.

Am I the only one whose baby hardly sleeps?! DD is 9 weeks now and only goes 3 hours between feeds....as this can take an hour at night sometimes that means only 2 hours of unbroken sleep, for her and me! Reading of babies sleeping 11 til 9 on here makes me super jealous!

I am a broken woman. Is this normal? She is FF.....

roofio87 · 19/11/2013 19:48

H won't take the gripe water from spoon. I syringe it into the side of his mouth then pinch his nose so he has to swallow. seems a bit mean and he does winge while its going on but no choking and it gets it in. I just give him one 2.5ml dose.

roofio87 · 19/11/2013 19:49

and I really rate the gripe water, so much less crying since we started on it!!

emmoB13 · 19/11/2013 19:59

Hi kelly.

I am FF also. How much formula are you giving her every 3 hours? Would she take more? My baby is 7 weeks and he was going every 2 hours on 3oz which was killing me! After advice on here i upped it to 4oz and just offered it each time. He took it all eventually and has started going every 4 hours. Although if it is already taking an hour for her to take her feed this might not work but upping her feeds during the day may get her to go longer at night. The most i have got on a night is 6 hours but was a one off, its mostly 4- 5 hours unbroken at the moment.

OrangeBlossom2 · 19/11/2013 20:00

Welcome Kelly, certainly no 11 til 9 going on here if it makes y feel any better! Every three hours day and night with extra feeds very often. Sorry you are struggling. Can anyone help you with one feed a day while you nap?

emmoB13 · 19/11/2013 20:06

Every 4 hours is also an average day for me! He can swap and change that whenever he feels, especially on an evening - the DP says he feeds hourly between 9 and 12 but i'm in bed for this! Its probably why he sleeps longer at night though.

Kelly1814 · 19/11/2013 20:19

Emma, she only takes 90 mls, she was a month premature and measured a month behind...only 4 pounds at birth and now 8 pounds at 9 weeks...so it's been slow getting her able to increase her amounts....hoping that as this goes up there is more hope of sleep!

I live abroad and all my friends work so no one to help in the day, she refuses to nap in the day...max of 45 mins and I feel worse ifi try to nap,and then get woken up, than if I haven't bothered at all!

Sorry we are so sleep deprived but glad am not alone Smile

Natalieand · 19/11/2013 20:30

Should u be measuring her she by corrected age kelly so actually should be 5 weeks not 9 if that makes sense? If so ds is 5 weeks tommorow and feeding 3 hourly throughout the day has a final feed between 10-11 and then goes n e where between 3-5 but as soon as he's had the first night feed were back too 3 hours so only get the one larger gap really. He's taking between 4 and 5oz I've only started giving him 5oz in the last few days and he doesn't always finish it off x

ananikifo · 19/11/2013 21:06

Hi Kelly. If I've learned anything on my one month (today!) as a mum it's that normal is a very wide range. My baby sleeps for about three hours at a time at night but last night it was every hour. My mom says I slept better than my brothers but none of is went more than three hours at a time.

orange a vest under my dress is my last resort. I have a support undergarment thing and the top can be strapless so I'm gonna try wearing that with the dress. I need to find it first but that's a job for tomorrow.

We tried metanium last night and he clearly has a painful red rash where we put the ointment. Nappy changes today are obviously painful. My mom (a pharmacist) has been encouraging us to use hydrocortisone on it and tonight we did. I feel like a bad mom letting my baby get to this this state where he screams while I rub steroids on his bum. Sad

OrangeBlossom2 · 19/11/2013 21:27

Ana, most babies get nappy rash at some point in the first 18 months. That's a direct quote from the nhs website. Don't beat yourself up about it, you are doing an amazing job with J.
