I just had ds (c-section) 3 weeks ago and I don't remember how it was with dd but my bleeding only lasted about 8-9 days, came to a complete stop with just slight odourless (sorry tmi) discharge but on three occasions in the past week (week 3) I have had single spurts of clean blood (just 1 pad full). Is this normal? Is it just overexertion or sudden movements such as suddenly getting up from bed, etc.?

Probably over exertion but I'd suggest you speak to your midwife. I've not had c-sections so can't comment really.

Hi there fay68: I had this with my ds2's elective c-section (had emergency one with ds1 and no probs). Had the normal amount of bleeding after having ds2 and then it stopped. About 3 weeks after c-section started bleeding really heavily (totally soaking the pads within a minute or so). I went to the docs and they monitored it over a day or so and then prescribed antibiotics as they said that it was likely that a blood vessel had been "nicked" inside me when they were sewing me up and the only way to heal the wound as such was to take antibiotics. It worked - although I had to really rest up and even just getting up and walking around to make a cup of tea triggered more bleeding!

To top it all my husband was away on a stag weekend in Ireland (what a nice wife I am to let dh disappear so soon after having ds2!) - although he was a bit concerned about leaving me but luckily my mum stayed over to help me with my 2 ds's. He wouldn't have gone if I hadn't been checked by the doc.

The bleeding soon cleared up after the antibiotics. Hope this helps. Congrats on your new ds and if you are still worried just go and see your GP. They'll give you an internal but it is best to get things checked out.

Take it easy if at all possible - all I could do was breastfeed ds2 in bed for a few days!

Had you been on iron tablets?

I had vb with dd, but the same happened to me - the midwife pointed out that it was cos i'd stopped my iron tablets - and she was right as soon as i started taking them again i stopped bleeding.
