Vag, I totally get it. It's awful living in limbo. Did it for years with my job in the US after getting divorced etc etc. Especially with my job there - just wanted to settle somewhere. Then the move to Devon a few years back which I knew was only for a year (9 months in the end) and I didn't want to make the effort meeting new friends etc. Just sat on the couch a lot with the dog until we moved back Grin I get the money thing too - completely.

Arti, hmmm odd with the name choice. I too would be a bit put out and completely understand re the mil thing. I much prefer your dd's name - in fact it was on my shortlist for dd. I guess the only thing is, like Indith said, did she love that name from way way back or something then I guess it's understandable - however if that were the case, you'd think you'd have known about it.

Kayz, I cannot believe you haven't had a smear test yet! Shock - what are you, 12? I can barely get an appointment for a cold without getting 3rd degree about the date of my last smear, let a lone the pill or anything. I've never understood worries about smears either - have never once found them painful or even uncomfortable? Have often thought something wrong with me! Seriously it's nothing - 2 min and you barely feel anything, not even close to anything described as pain. You'll be fine.

So we tried the 700th form of transport to school today - and a different route. Haven't got a clue what works best, but I think dd knows she's not quite up to scooting to school. So might have to do buggy for her and scooter for ds and the canal route. They have cracked down and due to careless parking / driving the school has lost the privileges with the pub next doors car park. What is everyone else's mode of transport to school?

Urgh, I am meant to be revising for annual exams. Left it to the last min as usual and will be in a flap next week. done a little, but am just SO tired these days. The house has never been so tidy - I don't iron, and I've even been ironing ALL the kids clothes to convince myself I have things that need my attention ahead of this stupid manual Grin

I have been somehow volunteered to be ds's class rep after several mums asked me if I was it! - oh yeah, I clearly have that written all over me! Told them I'll sleep on it Grin

Deids good luck with the GP tomorrow - hope it's a quick fix. I've been having trouble getting out to the gym or runs - mainly as it's a busy busy couple of weeks and the bloody sun goes down too early Angry

DH back working and now in London from today. He cycled - nutter. So just text to say he'd be an hour and a half as traffic looked bad. I see a pattern starting Hmm

Rubena · 02/10/2013 16:50

CP Kayz - I took an age to write that between cooking kids tea - now I'm going to be stern. Don't ever ever put them off - catching this stuff early is what matters. And as you know now - there's nothing to it. Right, lecture over.

Mckayz · 02/10/2013 17:03

I've only put them off as I always manage to make the appointments for when I have all 3 kids at home and no one to have them. I am not taking the boys with me to a smear test!!!

Vagolajahooli · 02/10/2013 17:39

Thanks ladies feeling a little less mental now. Poor DH I think he's feeling like a completely useless provider. I'm usually ok about stuff and having less, in fact I think it's good thing to consume less. I just wish we had some savings to show for the frugalness. I was carrying on about how lucky he is DH met me and not someone like his SIL. She told her DH off because they had to catch a tram into central Amsterdam when they were over here staying the penthouse suite of the hilton freaking hotel. Fark. Plus she won't let her DD call her MIL Ama (grandma in Chinese) because she doesn't want her to be too close to her. She has to be referred to as Aunty (well the Chinese equivalent).

I'm the same with Rubes with the papsmears the doctors wouldn't let me go until I'd done one. I agree Kayz should never let a son see that. Both boys were present for the papsmears at their six week checks. even though they were small and laying on my tummy (neither would settle) it just felt wrong being probed witb my son present. Worse while yours are bigger. But as Rubes said they really are fine, I only had one uncomfortable one and that was done by a very nervous midwife at the surgery. Poor thing, I gritted my teeth because cshe looked so nervous. Most embarrassing was done by a quite hot male doctor at my old work at sexual health clinic at the Royal London. He was from Melbourne and I have a thing for Melbourne boys accent. So embarrassing to have to spread em for him. And not in the good way

DeidreBarlow · 02/10/2013 18:31

Vag I think given all you do cope with being away from home etc it's pretty remarkable you don't lose it more often! Glad your feeling a little 'less mental' though.

I couldn't imagine anything worse than a hot Dr looking up my fanjo!! I think all mind have been women. But given that it's so important I'd deal with it! 25 yrs old seems late I thought you had them once sexually activeConfused. Although I could be getting that mixed up with something else, but I was defo younger than 25 when I had my first smear.

OP posts:
Mckayz · 02/10/2013 18:46

It used to be 21 for a first smear I think.

Vagolajahooli · 02/10/2013 18:51

To be honest I think I was well over 25 when I had my first as it was after I had moved to the UK and I moved over when I was 25. In Australia it is 25 or when sexually active whichever comes first. I was just naughty and didn't start having them until well after I started having relations with men. Here they only do them every 5 years! Despite not doing them very often they are quite good at it, very smooth.

Rubena · 02/10/2013 19:18

I left Australia in 99 and I know I've had one at least over there. Thought it was from 18 and every 2 years if you are getting busy at that age. I would have had them from day dot no matter what, as we are quite the hypochondriacs in my family Grin Good thing though as Mum was obsessive about Mammograms and they caught her breast cancer early so only needed 5 weeks of radiation and all gone. Her and my brother have also had melanoma & dodgy moles out as they regularly get screened.
Glad you are feeling less mental Vag. I second what Deids said - you've coped remarkably well with adapting to a multitude of things thrown at you moving around. I have those mental times at dh quite often. This new job for example. I'm already on edge.

beans37 · 02/10/2013 21:35

Vag, I have a matching story, but when my bumhole bled last year and was referred for tests at hospital. Name of doctor to be examining my bum was Dr Surrendra or something, so I was busy doing stereotyping older Indian man, so I could cope. Stripped from waist down, in walked a young blond Adonis with beautiful dimples. I actually said 'oh god, bloody typical', which was embarrassing. And he had to insert his fingers up my anus and puff air up there and told me not to be embarrassed if I farted. I have never clenched like it before or since. Mortified.

Rubena · 02/10/2013 22:01

Beans that is beyond brilliant! Oh how I love a story from you. I thank-you Grin

JamInMyWellies · 03/10/2013 00:07

Brilliant beans. GrinGrinGrin

Just had a lovely night out in London. Met the wives of DHs best friends for dinner. Weirdly we all hang out together. But us girls have never gone out with just each other not the men. It was great lots of chat.

beans37 · 03/10/2013 01:13

Thankfully the air-puffing was done by a machine, not orally as my description may imply.

beans37 · 03/10/2013 01:14

PPS Jam, we coul try doing that coffee in BS again before too long if you fancy it?

beans37 · 03/10/2013 06:41

Arti, I know you weren't going to talk about it, but how is DS getting on with his early waking?

Vagolajahooli · 03/10/2013 08:04

OMG Beans has made me laugh so hard. And I did for a second think you meant him, then I remembered the OTs and their little bottom wind blowers. You have put a massive smile on my face.

Arrtttiiieee · 03/10/2013 08:58

Beanz, your bottom should go on Britains Got Talent, it is endlessly amusing. Thanks for asking re nights. DS only woke once last night, settled immediatly after a quick feed, and didn't get up 'til 6.15am which is a massive lie in given recent standards. I feel like a new woman and have been more productive in the last two hours than over the whole last week put together. He has also learnt to do full giggles thus morning which is just too wonderful for words. How is DD3 treating you?

Arrtttiiieee · 03/10/2013 08:59

Rubes, have you made a final decision re Oz???did I miss it.

And sorry to hear about your row Veg. You are amazing for adapting to change but it just sounds like you are ready to go home. When is your date for return?

Arrtttiiieee · 03/10/2013 09:09

Oh and thank you for the kind words re SiL's naming choices. I do not think she has loved the name forever as this is her third daughter and the others were born before DD2. I've decided I'm less bothered by her choosing a similar name than I am by the fact that MiL loves it after hating my choices. I think names, me and my in laws will never sit easily together. The baby is gorgeous though and most importantly it is healthy which is great as SiL is 45 and had little maternal care having not realised she was pregnant for the first six months.

Anymore for the meet-up thread. Lady???? Should we alert Spot, SL and JJ in case they can be tempted but aren't reading?

beans37 · 03/10/2013 11:50

I'm glad I've cheered you up, Vag!

Arti, DD3 is up 2-3 times a night, which I can cope with. I've decided not to count how many hours of sleep I'm getting and just crack on with life. She's going into her own room tonight as am struggling with listening to her grobletting noises between feeds and not getting back to sleep. if she's nexy door, I'll hear her cry but not all the other funny noises!
So glad DS slept for longer this morning. Amazing what some sleep can do for you!

MIL picking up the girls again today. Brilliant!

JamInMyWellies · 03/10/2013 11:52

Man down.

DS1 now being sick, and to add to the joy I came downstairs this morning to find the dog also has it and have been sick in his bed. Joy joy joy!

DeidreBarlow · 03/10/2013 12:00

Hooray for some better sleeping babies!

Jam, sorry about the sickness. I hope you manage to give it the swerve

So I went to the GP this morning about my foot. She sent me to A & E as she said referring me would take too long! Anyhow good news no break. Bad news I have tendonitis and Dr said no running/impact exercise for at least 4 wks. He was lovely. Which was good as I hated the thought if wasting their time. But he told me off good std for running on it last weekend and said it had to be completely pain free before I start again. Even a slight ache then no go. And then he said start off as though I was a complete beginner to ease the foot back in gently. Thankfully he said he'd had similar so could sympathise but also knew that I shouldn't be trying to push it too soon.

Omg Jam, that sux big jobs (trying to get back to some Australian lingo so I shall be henceforth peppering my posts with appropriate colloquial language).

Arti dh has a contract up until October 30th 2014 so basically the day after that. They cocked up when they made up his latest contract and it actually only includes up to the end of the month before. I kind of hope we could just stick with that. DH did such a great job in Boston they are looking to place someone permanently from his team over there. Unfortunately they all seem to have to go over again to sort it out. At the moment it is looking like it will be the week of half term, which I'm a bit grrr about. We hadn't planned anything but dh was going to take a few days off so we could do somethings together close to home. Poo poo.

We are taking a more cathartic approach to the big row and have decided we need to sort out a budget. Anyone got any good suggestions for budget apps or software?

Beans your butt hole should be a national treasure.

Vagolajahooli · 03/10/2013 12:05

Oh and Arti a quiet hoorah for sleep. And as we say in Australia your MIL is a spak and a complete dag. (Very unPC country I come from)

Vagolajahooli · 03/10/2013 12:06

Oh hello Deids. Poor you, can you cycle?

Rubena · 03/10/2013 12:07

wow passed on to the dog, Jam, tis certainly going round the family! Hope you all feel better soon.
Arti, no - you've missed nothing, decided to stop banging on about it! And apparently the job thing is a much slower process than we first thought. So they won't be sorting it for awhile. DH has gone off it tbh as looking into it more, the benefits aren't going to outweigh the financial crippling that will ensue He's waiting to hear about a local fellowship as well, although not sure if he can actually take it due to contractual issues at the new job. Hows the au pair doing?
Beans it's a good thing you didn't have a boy - my ds is obsessed, and goes giggly and silly over any poo / bum / fart talk! You'd only perpetuate the situation if you had a boy the same! SO funny though, more stories please Grin
Still researching the school run and a bit worried about mil doing it next week. What are all of your modes of transport for the school run?
