Well done foof! You are braver than me. I'm still expressing but have bought nipple shields and am psyching myself up to try again feeding him.

Been trying to build my supply but went out to Dhs work then Inlaws then my mums today so not enough expressing done, lumpy sore boobs and baby drank all breast milk that was in the fridge.

Been hooked up to the electric pump for 30 mins and pumped 120 mls, most I've ever done. I am so proud. Lumps all gone. I love this pump!

Nightwish · 20/08/2013 02:30

Out of curiosity Yellow what pump are you using?

I go back to uni at the end of September and was assuming I would be bottlefeeding like with DS1 but breastfeeding seems to be going much better this time round so need to plan ahead.

RuckAndRoll · 20/08/2013 09:35

night I'm expressing for ds, use the medela swing which I love. Cheapest I found was on amazon.

Really struggling with pnd. Not how I planned the start of motherhood

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 20/08/2013 17:21

Night the pump I got from breast feeding support says "calypso" on it but also "ardo" do don't know what it is but it's very good and not painful, like the evil rubbish tommy tippee one I took back. So glad I got my money back.

I might only be using it for another few weeks if my ligament damage continues. With DH back at work on Friday I'm terrified that my wrist or shoulder will go again and I won't be able to pick up Ds.

How do you stop breast feeding ? Didn't think I would be asking this, mind you. Apart from getting pregnant when I wanted to nothing else has gone the way I thought it would.

FoofFighter · 20/08/2013 21:36

Well I have stopped bfing for good this time. We did try again but she was so upset and, the shield wasn't helping and she wasn't really getting anything out other than fresh air so making her horridly windy and crying etc etc.

MW who saw me this morning says she thinks I made ther ight decision and that she hasn't seen nipples in as bad a state as mine in a long time which I felt better about as it kind of justified my stopping (not that I needed to i know!) She has no concerns whatsoever so is now not coming back till Friday, be nice to have a lie in if we want to! DDs cord has come off thank goodness as it STANK!

She's also started wearing her cloth nappies now the meconium has gone and the cord clamp isn't in the way, she looks so cute with her big fluffy bum :D (A bimble and a cotton bottoms dish n the spoon wrap for anyone interested! and a bambooty all in one earlier) still going to use dispo for out n about as got a fw to get through though.

have had a lovely day today with DD and OH, went for a walk and a bus ride to the next town and had cake and coffee, gave her a wee massage with some almond oil as her skin was a bit dry in places :)

going to register her tomorrow, what surnames are people who aren't married giving them? We agreed if a boy, his name to carry it on, a girl, mine.

foof ours is getting DPs last name. I did pick first though and it's after my dad so suppose it works :)
Told DP if kids will get his name (this is our first but both want 2) then he'll have to get a shift on and ask me as I'm not missing out on the name giving.
He just stared at me lol

Ditsy79 · 21/08/2013 03:59

foof yay for you braving the cloth nappies! We have tried our DD in reusables, but found her newborn clothes were too tight with them on (her legs were stuck up in the air!), so waiting for another week until she's in 0-3 clothes which will hopefully be a bit more roomy. We have Little Lambs and Bumgenius free time. I have to say, we tried one of each and they worked fine (even my DH was surprised, and found them easier to put on her than Pampers). Getting sick of filling the wheelie bin up with disposable nappies.
Hope everyone is getting on okay otherwise.

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 21/08/2013 18:26

Finally forced myself to have another go at breast feeding today, went better than expected latched fine, no pain, but he's so lazy and will still only feed for a teeny bit then lies there just latched but not sucking or just pats my boobs and rubs his face on them. Will try some more but I'm pretty happy with expressing.

And as my boobs are so massive, doing it in public discreetly would be impossible.

Snufflebabe · 21/08/2013 19:00

Just a quick message to say I had a baby girl on Tuesday morning! Woke up at 0130 feelings bit off, then contractions kicked in around 3 mins apart. Called inlaws to come your house as DD1 sleeping and got to hospital at 3am. Contractions intensified so I was glad to have gas and air. Was already 4cm by the time I got to hospital. Spent time in the hiring pool but spent last hour/2 hours on the bed in various positions.

DD2 born at 0655. No tears after a previous third degree tear so I was thrilled.

Got home at tea time yesterday.

I am formula feeding and DD2 still very sleepy and we are having to wake her to feed. Midwife is phoning tomorrow to see how she is doing as she thinks she is just getting over the birth and should start to wake for a feed today/tomorow.

I'm fairly tired and aches and still struggling with walking any distance. Woud like to just lock the door and cosy with DD2 but with an active toddler and visiting relatives, we need to be keeping busy. OH being fantastic but I can already see how second or third children get less attention!

IJustWoreMyTrenchcoat · 21/08/2013 19:59

Congratulations on your little girl snuffle!

Foof you are braver than me. I had a couple of little lamb nappies to try and my brother gave me a bunch of nature baby Stuffables (not sure about these nappies but I thought I would give them a whirl). It has all been forgotten, along with Walks with the pram and registering the birth. I can't leave the house. I am being held hostage by a not quite 2 week old! I am terrified he will have a hairy fit every time we attempt to leave the house.

FoofFighter · 24/08/2013 14:41

Hows everyone getting on?

Trench - I have got some nature babies diddy diapers and they are fab so I guess the stuffables would be good too? getting on fab with the cloth nappies, really rating the combination of a prefold topped with a fleece liner (I cut them up myself from an old blanket) in a motherease rikki wrap :) Not keen on the bimbles or the bambooty or the bamboozle I have.

Hope everyone's okay. Can't believe my DD will be 3 weeks old tomorrow. We started using the reusable nappies properly yesterday, and I have to say that I am impressed so far. She actually seems more comfy in them than in the disposables. Using little lambs microfibre mostly, as well as some Bumgenius Freetime.
BF has got a bit easier, but I'm still finding it absolutely exhausting. Also feel a bit tied to the house, as I am not confident BFing in public yet - means I can't go out for more than 2 or 3 hours at a time which is a bit of a nuisance really. Took DD to be weighed on Wed, and she had put on 6oz in a week - I felt pretty relieved, as was worried she wasn't getting enough milk, but she obviously must be.
Hope you all have nice plans for the Bank Holiday - think we are planning on sleeping as much as we can!

Nightwish · 24/08/2013 18:55

I was considering buying some Bumgenius Freetime Ditsy, how are they?
I think I will wait to see if the nursery at uni are happy to use reusables before I buy them though as he will be there two days a week from 3 months old.

My little chunk is feeding like mad and put on 8oz in 5 days. So at 10 days he is 8.5oz over birth weight. I am very surprised as was expecting to be bottle feeding by now like with DS1.

Hope you are all well and getting enough sleep!

Ditsy79 · 24/08/2013 20:14

nightwish - we really like the Bumgenius freetime so far. They are really easy to use, as they are all-in-one, and are slimmer-fitting than the Little Lambs. The only thing I would say is that they don't look quite as comfy as Little Lambs on very small babies, as they are not as soft in the crotch area (if you see what I mean - the little lambs are microfibre so look more comfy). My DH prefers the Bumgenius as they are slightly easier to put on, pretty similar to disposables.
We asked the nursery if they would be happy to use reusables, and they said yes, as long as we show them what to do. We got the Bumgenius for that reason, as they are less of a faff.
The NappyLady site says Bumgenius are not suitable for nighttime (due to leaks) - not a problem this early on, but something to consider
later.

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 24/08/2013 22:45

Baby Ds will be 1 month on Tuesday, how did that happen?!?

On Friday big gummy smile at me, he has now done it 5 more times all at daddy, apart from once when I was taking a photo of him in his bouncy chair my mum bought. So have proof for people who don't think he did it, such as pils. Grin

Ligament damage is currently in wrist and fingers, I'm not coping well with it as sometimes I can't pick up Ds as I lose power in my wrist or because its so painful.

Sometimes I feel I'm relying on DH too much, even thou he does everything with no huffing.

I'm going to try and keep expressing milk till 6 weeks, but I'm really struggling. As I know it's just making the ligament damage continue with hormones released. And I'm only doing it twice or 3 times a day.

PurpleDana · 27/08/2013 01:31

Yay I finally made it!
Poppy Mae born 6 days overdue on Friday 23rd @ 10.18am. 7lbs 11oz. Smile

Ditsy79 · 27/08/2013 05:43

Congratulations purpledana! What a lovely name for your DD.
Hope you and baby are both doing well.

Gonnabmummy · 27/08/2013 07:27

It's very quiet on here, everyone having lovely newborn snuggles. Due date tomorrow but no sign of him shifting as of yet. Was on the phone to my nanna last night and she said her wedding anniversary was a week today.
My grandfather passed away 18 year ago when I was just 3 our LO will have the same name as him wouldn't it be lovely if he came on Monday :) fingers crossed

islingtongirl · 27/08/2013 10:27

I can join too! DD born Sunday 25.08 and was 2.58kg (about 5lb 7). At home now and attempting to bf...sore already Hmm. Very happy that she is here though, she was due 24.08 so she didn't hang around! Nice to meet all you August ladies. Hope you and babies are doing well.

PurpleDana · 27/08/2013 16:27

Thanks ditsy
Congrats islington, what a little baby at 5lb 7!
I'm breastfeeding too. I have found it quite easy really, except the first few sucks are painful. Milk is coming in now & it's made a big difference - breasts are hard & tender which I expected, but Poppy's technique has also changed to a longer rhythmic suck & can now clearly hear her swallowing. She seems a bit more settled too.

islingtongirl · 27/08/2013 16:54

Thanks purple. Thats good re bfding - how many days was it before your milk came in may I ask? LO is 2 days old now and nothing yet, still colostrum. Finding it a bit sore but trying to get a better latch each time I do it - midwife tried to help me earlier, but baby is so eager sometimes she doesn't open wide enough and it hurts Hmm

Ditsy79 · 27/08/2013 17:23

islington - congrats on the arrival of your little one. My milk came through on about day 4, BFing got a bit easier after that (although I am still finding the night feeds absolutely exhausting). Anybody noticing if certain foods have an effect on baby while BFing? I don't know if it's just coincidence, but both times I have eaten lettuce, the baby has screamed all night long...

My milk started to come thru day 3 islington
Can't say I've noticed different effects on baby due to what I've eaten ditsy, but then again everything is still a bit of a blur!
Managed my first outing today. Just a quick trip to toysrus then a walk and an ice-cream in the local park sat under a tree with hubby. It was lovely :-)

islingtongirl · 28/08/2013 07:39

That sounds like a nice outing Dana Smile

Had a bad night :( bfding is hurting a lot, I just cant seem to get it right, endured almost an hour of pain and still baby wasn't satisfied, awful crying - had to send DH out for formula as so worried she was starving and I obviously cant give her what she needs. Am very sore this morning and had to feed her formula again - she is starting to take to the bottle but feel like a complete failure. Going to try bfding again later but dreading it as so sore. Think will also call midwife. Hope you are all having a better time!
