Evening all. J had his jabs today and reacted just as badly as his big brothers to it. I got stuck in 2 insane jams doing the school run so he was a sweaty red faced mess by the time I got home after getting his brothers too. Ds1 hates school today (was in tears about missing his old school when I got him home finally) and ds2 was crying too about missing his old friends.I miss chocolate and ice cream to help get through days like today. Currently lying in bed bfing j with a glass of wine to numb the pain.

Vinegar - good going on the cycling (and well done to Sundays dd too). Re behaviour books I liked the baby whisperer toddler book and the Dr sears baby book to understand what's going through their heads. Re pilates - the 10 minute solution DVDs are a good starting point. Good luck with the bathroom refurb - will be worth it in the long run!

Persuasion glad f enjoyed swimming - j is meant to start in October once I'm liberated from the 2 hours out of my day doing the school run.

ClenchingPanda · 12/09/2013 22:41

Dinky that sounds like a tough day. I know you deliberated about the school change, so it must be so hard seeing your boys unhappy. It's still early days, and they will settle eventually, I'm sure. Hope J is better after his jabs and that your breastfeeding/wine solace helped a little.

Vinegar how long will the bathroom be out of action for? Not an easy time to go without - not that there ever is... When DH and I were students we had an unfortunate incident with a rat gnawing through our toilet soil pipe. Took what seemed like ages for the landlord to fix it, and in the meantime we had to make regular trips to Debenhams Wink.

Re. exercise, I have had one trip out on the bike which felt great. I was planning to start running too, but my escapades yesterday might put that on hold for a while. I am secretly a bit glad as despite my dedicated clenching I am left with a bit of a prolapse and feel like the world might all fall out of my pelvic floor if I run. Thankfully, despite consuming an awful lot of Belgian buns during my pregnancy, I need to focus more on toning rather than weight loss.

BB sorry about my auto-correct fail inadvertently waking your daughter! Grin

Off on a jaunt this weekend - first adventure with the boy. Exciting!

Persuasion · 13/09/2013 05:10

Clenching, what are you planning for your jaunt? We have a friend coming to visit on Saturday, I'm looking forwards to catching up.

Regarding baby books, like dinky I have also found the Dr sears baby book helpful. It's quite attachment parenting based but seems to mainly advocate doing what seems to work best for your family and baby, a combination which suits me! I also got 'the wonder weeks' a few days ago and am enjoying that too, anything to help me cope with the growth spurts Grin

I have about 5kg to lose to get back to my pre baby weight although I seem to fit in a lot (but not all) of my old clothes. I think at least half of it must be my boobs though to be honest! I've been doing some gentle pilates based exercises for diastasis recti which seems to have helped with that, and am trying to get out and do some walking but think I may need to add something more to shift the weight. I'm notoriously dangerous on a bike so may also have to revert to a dvd.

ClenchingPanda · 13/09/2013 07:00

Persuasion we've hired a gorgeous-looking country barn are taking my mum for a surprise 60th celebration. Just up packing for the Junior Panda; he has so many outfit changes it's like going on a mini-break with Rhianna, although I suspect she doesn't piss all over her clothes then again, who knows, she is a bit filthy .

Although I haven't tried, I suspect the trouble with a DVD would be actually getting round to doing it. If there is ever a time that I can put JP down there's a never-ending list of stuff I've been putting off to get started on. Or more realistically I'll probably just have a nap. At least if I joined a class and paid for it I would make an effort to actually go!

BB01 · 13/09/2013 07:31

Clenching, also meant to say hope your knee is better!

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 13/09/2013 09:56

We're back to 3 hourly waking throughout the night again Sad

We're going to Cornwall for the weekend. DH is going today & I'm following him with the girls tomorrow. Trying to figure out what we need to pack. We seem to have far too much stuff for just a weekend, but I have no idea what we'll be doing when we're there.

Thinkingofmyfabfour · 13/09/2013 12:14

dinky hope you are having a better day. The boys will be tired as its the start of term but im sure things will improve soon.

stillno and clenching enjoy your time away, you can never pack too many baby clothes at this age!

Just me and M this afternoon after an extra busy day yesterday so I'm hoping she will catch up with some of the sleep we missed last night so I can chill- what's the chance of that working out I wonder?

shelley72 · 13/09/2013 12:34

Very Envy of all the weekends away and glasses of Wine going on. Could probably do with a bit of that myself! Hope your knee is better clenching.

Dinky I was dairy free (for dd) until I found out I was pregnant last Oct. It's tough to begin with but you do get used to it Sad I like dark chocolate so didn't miss chocolate too much, but ice cream was the killer for me. Swedish glace isn't too bad but dd is also intolerant to soya so that wasn't that useful either!on the up side it was fab for losing the baby weight.

All the talk of exercise (and seeing Kate on the news) is putting me to shame. Just how does she look so good?! I intended to take up Pilates on the advice of the osteopath once I felt a bit better but I can't find any classes at suitable times. Also I can't really leave F. I do need to do something though, none of my winter clothes fit Shock. Maybe I will get round to it soon...

Hope you all enjoy your weekends awaySmile

dinkystinky · 13/09/2013 12:42

HAve a fab weekend away Clenching - sounds lovely. And have a great time in Cornwall SNFED!

Shelley (and others) thanks for the dairy free soya free gluten free rubbish day sympathy - the boys seem better today and after a night of being up all night with a cranky baby DH kindly went into work late and did the school run for me. J has been sleeping and being adorable this morning so things arent so bad today. I have to admit I'm finding the dietary restrictions tougher than anything else. On the plus side I appear to be losing 3lbs a week - at this rate I'll be skinnier than I've ever been in no time at all.

Shelley - Kate will be looking good with her image consultants, make up consultants, PT etc - its her job to look good. And she doesnt have 2 other kids to deal with two. The 10 minute pilates dvds are a good starting point if you want a DVD to try out.

VinegarDrinker · 13/09/2013 14:57

Glad J is feeling better today dinky - we were lucky with the first set of imms, no noticeable effects.

After an all time low for sleep which ended up with both kids in our bed on Wednesday night, B did a 7.5 hour stretch yesterday Shock - they definitely keep you on your toes, don't they?!

Thanks for the book recommendations, I got myself a Kindle for my birthday so can download some samples and get reading. We have the Sears already although I have to say I haven't looked at it since DS was a few months old. He has had a much cheerier few days, I think part of it is back to nursery/Daddy back to work/home from holiday wobbles. FX it lasts!

ClenchingPanda · 13/09/2013 23:23

Terrible internet connection here in cider country, but logging on quickly to day that KM is almost certainly spanxed up to the max in that silver sparkly dress.

In other news, I had to fight a poonami / weenami double whammy whilst changing JP on the cream-carpeted bathroom floor of some of DH's relatives. Kept my on my toes...!

MrsRoss26 · 14/09/2013 06:24

Blimey clenching, cream carpet in a bathroom is crying out for a poonami! Well done on fighting the good fight!

Vinegar was that a night sleep? 7.5 is the stuff I dream of... C did a 4hr stretch again last night but has been awake every 2hrs again thereafter. I want some sustained sleep!!

Morning all Sad

Persuasion · 14/09/2013 07:43

Sounds like your already having fun, clenching!

On the DoC issue I also suspect the use of structural underwear. Although having a dress fitted to you and a nanny and people to do your hair and make up can't hurt either!

F slept from 10pm to 5am overnight which is lovely. Then woke up again just now to feed but I'm hoping she'll go back to sleep and I'll actually get something resembling a lie in! It seems possible at the moment so fingers crossed...

Beginningofthejourney · 14/09/2013 08:58

Who has a cream carpet in the bathroom! Must not have kids or men living there lol! We had a poonami yesterday was ALL over the changing mat in Theo's hair and everywhere, had to go straight in the bath...if only I'd remembered envelope vests can come down as well as up the body to get it off! Confused

Mrsd77 · 14/09/2013 09:26

Cream carpet owner here!! It's all through the house! DH is the master of the carpet cleaner! I am also quite capable of removing hair dye with a bottle of bleach and a cotton bud. Such skills!

Long time no post here. All is good. HV saw L this week. 11lb 2oz and firmly on her line. Uncannily she has almost exact measurements to her bro. She also had her hip scan (standard for breech round here) and all is well. Very proud as she slept through the whole thing. I'm doubting jabs will be that quiet. That said, DS just used yo fix the nurse with a steely glare!

Feel a bit end of an era ish. Last night we put L in her basket in our room alone for the evening. Up until then she's been asleep in her basket with us. I figured before she goes in the cot she should get used to it. Made me feel a bit sad. Had the monitor virtually resting on my shoulder!

I'm also hoping that after a bit of an annoying week that she will settle back to her previously civilised sleep routine. She did 8 til 4 again last night so everything is crossed!

Hope your boys settle at school dinky. Also hope knees are on the mend and lovely weekends away are had by all. Normal weekend here; birthday party, shopping and a roast. DH is attempting the custard tarts from gbbo! Yes!!

7+3

cheekbyjowl · 14/09/2013 10:46

I'm admiring and desperately jealous of everyone with sleeping babies

Do they wake at all during the long stint and then just self settle or have a long no crying sleep?

Joe almost wakes at 1.50, 3, 5 without fail and then grunts from 5 till I give up. trying to be tougher to see if he self settles when crying...just shhhhing and laying a hand on him but it never works...he always wants milk and winding. Maybe he really is hungry but I'm thinking it's force of habit.

How often do your babies sleep in the day? J can do long stretches..he,slept through rhyme time despite me shaking a tambourine at him and lifting him in the air...doing the hokey cokey etc..it's impossible. I'm.desperate for longer than a 3 hr stretch at.night and I think he's 10 weeks now...maybe 9

cheekbyjowl · 14/09/2013 10:47

Mrsd well done. Thats amazing!

dinkystinky · 14/09/2013 10:55

Lol at the poonami/weenami and cream carpet combo Clenching - you deserve the nappy of valour for that battle Grin J has a stinking cold now, not sure if after effect of jabs or was worsening for it anyway, so slept on me from midnight last night - I now know what a mattress feels like and how so many of them end up with knots and bumps in them.

Cheek - J has little catnaps of 40 mins during the day (or shorter) plus one longer sleep of around 2 hours (though I always have to wake him from that sleep because of the school run). I try to ensure he doesnt sleep after 5.30 and he goes down around 7.30/8ish and will go for between a 4 - 8 hour stretch (at the moment its a 4 hour stretch) and then wake around 2 more times a night (often just before 6am). He doesnt cry when he wakes at night - just grumbles a lot - sometimes he self settles. I think if they're already crying they wont self settle very well as it winds them up abit. I tend to try to catch him before he cries though as it just makes his reflux so much worse so he probably could self settle and go back to sleep more. DS1 slept 8 hours at this stage - but he was in his own room from 4 weeks.

MrsD - hope L settled ok in the basket last night on her own.

Mrsd77 · 14/09/2013 13:14

She did thankfully dinky! DS was on his own much sooner, but I wanted to wait til I felt totally ready with L. Mixture of her being our last and trying to avoid pnd I think.

Re daytime sleeping, I would say she has at least two two hour naps, generally aided by the school run. If she's properly off though she doesn't wake on transfer. Like dinky, in the night I feed her as she starts to grumble, that way she happily goes back off afterwards. I'm keeping my fingers crossed here! DS wasn't this civilised for a long time so totally understand how draining it is. Be kind to yourself!

shelley72 · 14/09/2013 16:44

Bad mummy here - I have absolutely no idea how often / how much F sleeps for Shock I just let her doze off as and when. Please tell me that there are others who have the same slack parenting method as me!

Saw my friend today who also thinks that Kate m was spanxed up and we decided that if we had personal hairdressers and make up artists on call we would look half decent too. Still think it's being slightly optimistic! Am still 6kg over pre pregnancy weight and can't get into my jeans so have a way to go yet. worst thing is my swimsuit doesn't fit either and really want to take F for a splash. The Pilates DVD sounds like a good idea, but would it be ok for a complete beginner? Have never done it before and want to do it correctly for fear of buggering up my back.

Having a quiet weekend, most of house (Dh and Dd's) have cold and are miserable. Dd1 has also decided this is the time to give up on nappies (at last!)and so we are trying to avoid any little accidents. Also a cream carpet householdShock

ClenchingPanda · 14/09/2013 17:50

As you all correctly suspected, the cream-carpet owning relatives have never had children!

Cheeseandbread · 14/09/2013 19:15

My parents are very excited as they have just had cream carpets out down- they are in their 50/60s... As we have all flown the nest (bit worried about having Juno anywhere near them!!)

Slack parent here Shelly in the day Juno's naps vary... Usually a long one in the morning but even that can change... Depends what's happening and how she is feeling.

Bedtime routine seems to work though. Cheek Juno will go down for a long stretch of 6-8hrs ish- she goes down at 7.30ish (after bath and feed) during that stretch she may wake slightly and self settle- I've stopped myself jumping as soon as she snuffles and have found ear plugs useful- the foam disposable ones. I can still hear most things through them but they cut out the low level snuffling that had me permanently awake! She will sometimes the go down until 6ish if it's a really good night, or she may wake several times. If she cries out I wait as sometimes she does one cry and then goes back to sleep- if she continues I pick her up for feeding.

10+3 (on Wednesday she was bang on 5kg so that might be why she is sleeping better too!?)

ReikiMummy · 14/09/2013 19:23

hi everyone... actually typing with the luxury of a wireless keyboard one handed!!

Lessons from this week... after 8 weeks of heart wrenching bathtimes... (amazing considering the lo should have been a water birth...) i took her in the shower with me...

result? She loved it! Or rather loved the fact it was happening AND i was still cuddling her! Definitely have a velcro baby here!

1st jabs due this week... :S

Feel we've been lucky so far in avoiding coughs/colds/chickenpox (!) Hope everyone feels better and gets rid of their colds soon.

Has anyone heard of Male PND affecting their OH's??

Oooooh... "Pooston calling"!

ReikiMummy · 14/09/2013 19:25

forgot to mention... 8 weeks today

BB01 · 14/09/2013 19:47

Am so behind as usual so sorry for not many personals!

Shelley, not much of a routine here. Didn't care much until recently but trying to get into a teeny bit more of one just in the evenings and trying to discourage v long daytime sleeps to make the nights easier.

Anybody had to give their baby the high calorie supplement Calogen to increase weight gain? We agreed as a compromise (top ups of expressed breast milk or formula was alternative) but anxious in case it doesn't work! Also trying to wake her every four hours at night and make more of an effort to hold her upright to try to help reflux. All a bit worrying and stressful!
