OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

emsie def sounds like reflux. Book another GP appt. Can't remember if you are breast or formula feeding? If formula then thickener like carobel can help if not ranitidine would be good place to start. Gaviscon is a complete pain if you are breastfeeding and doesn't work that well anyway. Hope you get something sorted.

waves wow what a woman you are, you should be really proud of your travels with your kids. Esp surviving a delayed train -aargh!

dinky hope today goes well, glad you can see through all the stress and enjoy your boys Grin

Well M got her tongue tie snipped yesterday! Dr said it wasn't too bad but worth doing anyway. When we got home she was lying on the mat and she stuck her tongue out at me!! I was beyond happy, and she keeps doing it all the time now. Feeding feeling a bit better, but he said it can continue to improve over the first 3 days.
Unfortunately we all have a stinking cold, I have a fever too which is really unpleasant in the middle of a heatwave (28 here today and yesterday though a bit cloudy now so will hopefully cool down)
I had to hold M upright on my chest while I lay semi reclined for most of last night as she is so choked up Sad
She's still managing to feed ok though luckily

7+1

Thinkingofmyfabfour · 03/09/2013 14:37

Oh well should say gaviscon didn't work for us but does help some people!!

dinkystinky · 03/09/2013 19:52

From the research I did it looks like gaviscon can cause constipation - as J is an irregular pooer at the best of times (nothing for days then an explosion) I didnt want that and steered GP towards another choice. He's now on a hefty dose of ranitidine 3 x a day (half of which he spits out) and domperidone 3 x a day too (which he also spits out). Has anyone mastered the art of giving baby a medicine without half of it coming back out of them?

Glad M got her tongue tie snipped and is being a cheeky little minx already Thinking Grin but so sorry to hear about the colds - summer colds are the pits. I found a baby vapour thing you can use from birth after we all had our horrid colds when J was 2 weeks old - may be worth a try. You can get it from boots. Really hope the fever breaks soon and you all recover soon.

Clenching - all sounds sweet in the Panda household. Glad DH is back and that junior P is self settling - that's brilliant at such a young age. Hope the first bike ride went ok.

Boys all seeming ok - thanks for your lovely messages x

Beginningofthejourney · 03/09/2013 20:20

Dinky Theo has to have domperidone and ranitidine too, I use a teat to give him his meds will a little expressed breast milk, this means he will take a bottle on the few occasions I have tried as well as not spitting out his meds! The nurses on SCBU showed me me this trick after he went blue from having his iron from a syringe...not tried giving him it any other way since that scary day!
thinking last week we did baby massage at the postnatal group and the instructor said to help with snotty babies gently press with your baby fingers either side of the bottom of the nostrils and pull down towards the corner of baby's mouth. Does that make sense? This should help drain snot away
I can't believe how quickly Theo is developing! Love all his chat and smiles, still not much of a routine but health visitor says I have to remember he was prem, not sure how long I'm going to let him use that as an excuse Smile
Sorry for epic post!
14 weeks today!

dinkystinky · 03/09/2013 22:44

Cunning Beginning - however J now refuses to countenance a dummy (prefers sucking on his hands) so I don't fancy my chances with a teat. Maybe I should coat his hands in the stuff...

ClenchingPanda · 03/09/2013 23:42

Think I might have jinxed myself by saying how great things are. JP has turned into a sicky baby today, so everything is covered in partially digested milk. Not had this problem before... I wonder why it has suddenly started.

Also, I need opinions: for how long should I allow DH to wallow in his jet lag? 11 hours time difference is a bit if a killer, but an desparately holding back the urge to remind him of my regular body clock upheaval working night shifts.

Bike was awesome - I'd forgotten how much faster it is than walking. Definitely can't wait to get out and about in it a bit more.

Thinking - glad M seems fine after her snip; sounds like she's having fun working out her new tongue! Summer colds are su unfair, so hope you are all in the mend soon.

Right, my sicky boy is finally sleeping so I shall too. Good nights to all

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 04/09/2013 03:48

dinky I get meds into N using a dropper (washed out from an old infacol bottle) which I slide down next to my nipple while she's feeding. It's only 0.5ml at a time. Seems to work.

Clenching I hope JP stops being sick. I hate that milky vomit smell. Glad the bike went well.

N had her vaccinations. Coped pretty well with it, but a bit unsettled tonight. I think her legs are hurting. Sad

dinkystinky · 04/09/2013 06:09

Cunning SNFED - may try that one!

Clenching - hope JP is more settled today. Re jet lag - best thing is for dh to reset his body clock asap - bed and rise at normal time, out for fresh air, short catnap during day if absolutely needed but no more than hour and a half. We apply the above and are through it (as are the kids) in a couple of days.

dinkystinky · 04/09/2013 06:16

SNFED - hope N settled so you got more sleep and she's feeling better today.

ClenchingPanda · 04/09/2013 08:18

Think I have solved the mystery of The Very Sicky Baby. Junior P has got a cold. How one tiny human can make such earth-shattering snotty noises is beyond me... he sounds like someone repeatedly trying to start a knackered old motorbike

I guess there's not much I can do apart from hold him, feed little and often, and maybe a steamy room or saline drops.

He still gave me a massive gummy grin this morning though, which partially makes up for having to cancel my lunch plans...

Beginningofthejourney · 04/09/2013 08:22

dinky Theo won't suck on a dummy either so might work, although SNFED's plan sounds good. Hope N wasn't too unsettled overnight Theo has his 2nd vaccinations tomorrow :-(

Thinkingofmyfabfour · 04/09/2013 10:07

Thanks for all the suggestions for M's cold, she slept better last night so I'll see how she is today. Everyone looked a bit less snotty this morning...
Sorry to hear baby panda has a cold too clenching

Good to hear how well Theo is doing beginning

You did well getting ranitidine and domperidone dinky or maybe you just have a very switched on GP. Gaviscon did make my 2 constipated when they had it. Not sure I can think of any other suggestions re getting meds in. I would try tiny amounts in syringe quite far back in cheek but that's probably what you have been doing!

cheekbyjowl · 04/09/2013 10:20

good advice on meds. jo was prescribed gaviscon yesterday...he took one dose from bottle well but wouldnt take another. so tried mixing it with expressed milk but he wasnt interested. might try the droplets route. I would love a night when he didn't wake every 2 hrs but he is so uncomfortable.

has everyone been offered the rotavirus drop during first jabs? I hadnt heard of it

also has anyone had success bf in a dress? I've got a wedding to go to next week and don't think my trusted vest top loose t and trousers will work. maybe an excuse to shop Smile

shelley72 · 04/09/2013 10:34

gosh it has taken me ages to catch up and found you as you popped up on active convos. glad to hear everyone is doing so well despite problems with reflux, nocturnal babies and dummy refusals. cheek have you tried a wrap dress? dead easy to feed in.

F is going from strength to strength but growing up waaaay too fast Sad. had her jabs yesterday (didnt take the rotavirus though) and so was a bit hot and grumpy last night but generally is the happiest chilled out baby we have known in this house. still co sleeping - she only feeds once, maybe twice, in the night and settles straight back to sleep. she does like to be with someone all the time which makes things v tricky though.

all back to school / pt nursery here so we are having our first day alone together. starting to bond with her much more now. not feeling the same way about her instantly came as a shock but i realise now that the birth had a lot to do with that. hoping to feel a lot better soon.

SundaySunshine · 04/09/2013 10:58

Nice to see you back shelly glad things are going well with F.

I second the wrap dress suggestion for easy bf. enjoy the wedding.

Sorry to here some of you suffering with summer colds, they are the pits aren't they?

dinky pleased to here that J is finally sleeping and giving you some well earned rest. Have you managed to sort the car situation out? What insurance was your nanny on with the last car? Sorry to here you had trouble at the gp. I too have been banging my head against a brick wall with them regarding the 6/8 wk check and jabs, finally managed to get and appointment but L will be nearly 10wks by then!

First day of school for DD here, we survived the school run ok, although we were all up riddiculously early. DD was fine, it was me that was in tears, but glad to say I wasn't the only mum. The house is SO quiet now I can hear the clocks ticking, it's quite eerie. Hope everyone else's first day went ok.

L is getting really active now, batting toys, sucking his thumb etc. I gave him a tambourine to play with and he banged away on it very well - the little man has rhythm! Grin

shelley72 · 04/09/2013 11:08

sunday i'm suffering from quiet house syndrome too. sure DD is having a whale of a time. is she on half days to start? i still had a little tear yesterday whe DS went into year 1. children seem to cope better than we do. blame the hormones!

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 04/09/2013 11:25

cheek - definitely a wrap dress. I have casual dresses that I wear some times that I can just pull a boob over, but a wrap is so much easier for a wedding. Do a trial run before you go. I wore a smart dress to DD1's christening & ended up having to hoik the whole thing up, hiding in the vestry hoping the vicar wouldn't pop back in to check on us, for an unscheduled feed. Blush

cheekbyjowl · 04/09/2013 11:31

Grin brilliant. wrap dress it is...horray shopping Grin

Abzs · 04/09/2013 12:37

J grabbed something deliberately for the first time on Monday. Despite him having toys bought for the purpose, it was a flower in the garden. Orange crocosmia to be precise.

Today we are having a crosspatch day...

IcingTheCake · 04/09/2013 13:51

Shock I would try to catch up but 22 pages worth, ill never get through it so I apologise now for that! and sorry for stopping posting on here! Really did not realise how time consuming the baby thing is Wink

Alice is 6 weeks old on Friday and a veryyy textbook baby, lost weight in first week - about 4% I think - then put on a little then a pound a week for the next 3 weeks now shes just a few ounces up last week. And the whole 'crying reaches its highest point at 6 weeks' is definitely true for us! She wasn't a very loud baby at first but the past week shes cried for attention, wind, tiredness and just to stretch her lungs as far as I can figure - the upside is she knows not to do it at night! :)

I hope everyone else is enjoy motherhood as much as I am and starting to find their feet!

emsiepoops · 04/09/2013 14:56

I will definitely book another appointment! Strangely she is lots better today?! How odd.

Also, did anybody have a forceps delivery? Daisy has two teeny tiny dents on her head, I'm guessing it's from the forceps although they do look more like scars they're definitely dent-ish. Does anybody else's baby have these? xxx

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 04/09/2013 15:29

emsie - DD1 was a forceps delivery. She had one little dent with a cut over it just above her eye (scarily close!). It completely disappeared after a few weeks I think.

ClenchingPanda · 04/09/2013 16:22

Emsie, Junior Panda has two scars from his forceps delivery just above his right eye - they look like little chicken pox scars. The skin was broken and he had steri-strips on it, so resembled a rather tiny cross boxer for a number of days. I doubt they will ever go. Most babies' heads go in a bit at the temples so hard to know for sure without seeing them.

Thanks for the sympathy re. his cold. It's awful seeing him ill. I'd be a week if there were anything really wrong with him. He's sleeping now, so thankfully I got a nap too!

Shelley, good to see you back and hope your first one to one day with F went well. I am sure bonding will continue to come over time. Icing, welcome back too!

Cheek enjoy shopping! I would also use this opportunity to buy a lovely big scarf if you need to cover any flesh whilst BF. Not the woolly kind though. That might look a bit odd at a wedding. Grin

ClenchingPanda · 04/09/2013 16:23
