I for one have a very surprising baby.

OP posts:

There tails are amazing, we aren't allergic but the constant hair drives me mad. My tabby has a really thick coat that malts constantly.

I took DH's name, I hated mine.

utopian99 · 20/08/2013 20:25

Ours don't swim but do like to climb into the sink and shower and play with the tap water. They also like to sit on the edge of the bath and wave a paw at you, and fetch sticks in from the garden.. Hmm

utopian99 · 20/08/2013 20:28

Have put a photo of Otto 'helping' the mop..

halestone · 20/08/2013 20:31

Maryland hope DS is feeling better soon.

Nutella i would take my DP's name but then again i would also say obey in the vows. Could you double barrel yours and DP's name?

H fell off my bed tonight whilst i was drying her after her bath and landed head/neck first on the floor. There were lots of tears both hers and mine. Would you co-sleep after that? She seems fine in herself but i'm worried still. Obviously if i co-sleep shes on the side nearest the wall.

WLmum · 20/08/2013 20:47

Oh dear hales. If she seems fine now I would go about business as usual. Dd1 fell off the bed when she was about this age and went down between the bed and bedside table banging her head alternately as she went down. Dd2 went head first over the arm of the sofa when she was about 18 months. It's so scary but most children/babies seem to have done it and come off ok.

T is being tricky to settle tonight. I've resorted to back on the boob after 5 attempts at settling.

Had nice messages from ex colleagues but whether they turn into anything I guess we'll see. If I left my job before 3 months I'd have a bit to pay back I think but I can't be much as I thought I was only getting statutory! The policy wording is so ridiculously complicated I can't make head nor tale of it and I've got a background in HR!

itsMYNutella · 20/08/2013 21:15

hales my name is already double barrelled and sticking even part of it with DP's name doesn't work - plus DP wouldn't consider it.
When I was a kid I was always the only one with a dble barrelled name and it was always such a burden as a name. Then as I grew older I suppose I grew into itSmile
I think I will end up with DP's name because that's part of what being a family is to me. I think just being put on the spot today made me think.
I've let go of a lot already to be with DP (country, being near family and friends, biscuits, decent curry... You know the important stuff Wink ). I feel like I'm cutting another tie to a previous life in a way. Part of me wants to cut it and another part is desperately clinging on.

Oh and my little brother fell down the stairs when he was about 7months. But he is the only one of the four of us that went to Uni Grin

Little man has had a cold the last couple of days but after some vigorous napping he seemed better before bed.
I hope everyone has a good night!!

itsMYNutella · 20/08/2013 21:16

And I need to find out about vows... And if we want someone to translate them Confused I think I'll understand them.... Hmmm.....

Maryland2013 · 20/08/2013 21:23

Oh no Hales! DS fell a couple of months ago. A&e weren't even worried it happens all the time they said. I think as long as they cry straight away... I was really really upset though and stayed awake most of the night shining lights in ds's eyes to make sure they were still reactive. A bit crazy mother paranoid?!
I'm sure she will be ok... Co sleep if you think you can keep a better eye on her? We have a video monitor so I just kept checking that to see he was moving etc (!)

Maryland2013 · 20/08/2013 21:27

Utopian they sound delightful cats. I had a friend who's cats used to get in the bath with them (ewww). They would scratch at the door going crazy if they knew someone was in the bath!!
Our cats come in for their own whistle and sit on command. The vets face is a picture when they sit on his table Grin

SpottyTeacakes · 20/08/2013 21:30

People with older dc...

Dd still has the odd accident (as you know Wink) but she's just wet the bed for the fourth night in a row. Usually it's early hours but its not even 9:30. She tried for a wee before bed and nothing came out. She's definitely asleep when she does it and they're big wees. Should I go with it? When does anything need checking out? I feel sad for her Sad and me with all the washing!

Hales ds fell off the sofa when he was four months I will never forget the 'splat!' He made as his head hit the floor. He was fine Grin dd did the same, I never learn!

IsThatTrue · 20/08/2013 21:47

I am pretty sure all dcs fall at least once. I've had all 3 of mine fall off the bed.

DS regularly falls when cruising atm as we have wood floors and he gets distracted easily so doesn't pay enough attention. Hmm he bashes his head hard at least twice a day.

If you are worried about it though hales then co-sleep, it won't do any harm and may make you feel better.

WillYouDoTheFandango · 20/08/2013 22:05

DS honestly falls face first every day. I tipped him out if his car seat at 14 weeks and he has jumped off the bed 4 times. I really have learned my lesson now though! She'll be fine Hales. Do whatever you normally do.

I'll take DP's name. We're getting married next year when I can be arsed to book it. I'm not a big wedding person though so just want registry office. He wants to go abroad but I don't want to sort it all out or have the inlaws on what will essentially be our honeymoon.

Speaking of which I forgot to tell you all something that happened a couple of weeks ago. I was telling MiL about our holiday in a few weeks and she said "Oh I'm there then too. In a resort just up the road." ShockShockShock Quick as a flash DP pipes up "you'll have to come down to see us" HmmHmmHmm MiL: " oh well I'll just come and stay for a couple of days, I'd hate to cramp your style." ConfusedConfusedConfused

If this happens I will be moving back into my parents' when we get back!

ISpyPlumPie · 20/08/2013 22:43

Aw Hales hope H is ok, and that you are too - it can shake you up, can't it? There's definitely been more than one occurrence of bed falling over here with no apparent ill effects.

Isthat - your DS2 sounds very similar to N at the moment, with the cruising/bashing himself/generally causing havoc. He does seem fairly resilient, but I've got a very strong feeling that this boy is going to give me some grey hairs!

Utopian - hope O's rash clears up soon, good that you've got a diagnosis.

Willyou - Shock Shock. That has AIBU written all over it. FWIW, YANB in the slightest U.

Nutella - I took DH's name and was quite surprised at how quickly I got used to it. I thought I'd be sitting there blankly when I got called in the Drs. etc. I do still have my old name as part of my personal email address though, partly because I can't be faffed changing it and partly because it's nice to have something in my as well as the TV licence that I've not bothered to change despite having been married for six years next month.

Also, I didn't promise to obey. I was something I didn't want to do anyway (but agree it's a very personal choice) however the Vicar said she was against people saying it and tried to strongly discourage the one bride she came across who was insistent Confused.

ISpyPlumPie · 20/08/2013 22:44

in my name that should read

ISpyPlumPie · 20/08/2013 22:52

Oh, sorry Spotty - with night time accidents, I think the 'official' advice is that it's not a potential problem until 7 but I know what you mean that it's a bit different when it isn't usual for your DD. Is there anything she might be worrying about - moving to preschool etc?

Think I'd be tempted to ride it out for the next few nights and just deal with it in a quite matter of fact way. Might be worth speaking to HV if it carries on, but is probably just one of those things without any rhyme or reason - not very helpful, I know!

2blessed · 21/08/2013 04:32

We've had a few falls here and R is definitely fine.

I've got a double barrelled surname which I absolutely love. R is double barrelled to using dp's and one of my surnames. This caused a great deal of friction when I was pregnant as dp was insistent it would be his name and I was just as insistent that no dc of mine would have a completely different surname to me. Glad we worked it out...

Just put R down after 2nd wake up. I'm blaming the tooth.

Bit disappointed I only managed to clean the vegetable crisper drawers and one shelf of the fridge. Thats more to do when I get up.

WLmum · 21/08/2013 07:39

spotty yep official age is 7. Has she been under the weather? Or particularly tired - sometimes children can't wake out of a deep sleep - this was the case for db for years! Would she be upset if you put her in pull ups at night for a bit?

We've got several head bumps a day here too.

SpottyTeacakes · 21/08/2013 07:44

Thanks it's just frustrating because she's been dry at night for so long only the odd accident. Not under the weather as far as I can tell, no accidents in the day for a while. Can't think of anything that could be bothering her

utopian99 · 21/08/2013 08:01

Can you get potty training regression like babies have with sleep?

I was up at 2am being horrendously sick and still feel awful and now too weak to support ds on his staggering mission, so trying to.find absorbing games to play on the floor. Poor dh has gone to work after losing an hour of sleep too, soothing ds who woke up wanting a feed at exactly the same time..

utopian99 · 21/08/2013 08:16

If I've caught a tummy bug will it pass through the milk to ds?

SpottyTeacakes · 21/08/2013 08:27

Don't think so just wash your hands etc. I know if you have a cold the antibodies go through your milk not sure if bugs are the same Confused

PurplePidjin · 21/08/2013 08:35

Spotty uti?

SpottyTeacakes · 21/08/2013 08:41

I don't think so pidj as she's fine in the day? Still a possibility though I suppose?

Barbeasty · 21/08/2013 10:38

Spotty if your hv team are any good, I'd maybe ring and ask, emphasising that it's a change from a long period of dry nights.

itsMYNutella · 21/08/2013 12:58

utopian I had a tummy bug when DS was about three months old. It was horrible because I hurt too much to pick him up or carry him. I was lucky DP could work from home and watch DS while I stayed in bed and he brought me DS for cuddles & feeds. But DS was fine so I'm sure LO will be too.
