I for one have a very surprising baby.

stacks my boobs were massive the other night when T was late to bed and she had a massive feed really fast which made her throw the whole lot up. I don't want that to be the case after work on Monday. My boobs were big this morning after no night feeds too.
Most of the time they don't change.

SpottyTeacakes · 12/08/2013 14:09

Mine are never huge anymore, it's so odd. I have no idea what I'm going to do when (if!) I go back. I really don't want him to have formula three days a week, even though it would only be once. Do you think three cups of cows milk would be OK in one week at 9 months?

WillYouDoTheFandango · 12/08/2013 14:12

J had just crawled over and pinched the last bite of my custard cream. I love the little monkey but he'd better watch his back Wink

My poor sister is in hospital, she had her appendix out last night. My dad is going to come and sit with J later so that I can go and visit her. Think she's fed up already she hasn't been prescribed any antiemetics and can't stop being sick.

PurplePidjin · 12/08/2013 15:36

hales it's caffeine not dairy he reacts to :)

WillYou hope she's ok Thanks

Stacks · 12/08/2013 16:03

Pru - the 0+ car seat goes up to 13kg/29lb or about 18 months. If you're happy with that as an inbetween seat (like I'm thinking of doing) then look at travel systems that cone with one. Like the Jane Slalom and carseat on ebay they sell for cheap - one I almost bought yesterday went for £18 collect from London.

PrunellaDeVille · 12/08/2013 17:29

Thanks Stacks. the travel system we've used so far is on loan from my b/sil who are expecting in Nov so i'll have to come up with a new solution. maybe i shouldn't go for a jane slalom from ebay though as sounds like i'd be bidding against you. great tip though, that looks like a nice setup

WLmum · 12/08/2013 18:03

spotty it will be fine, there's nothing wrong with cows milk it's just it's not as nutritious as bm or fm so shouldn't be a substitute. Once my ebm stocks have run out I'm planning on a cup of formula - thinking couple of ozs mid morning and mid afternoon.

willyou I hate it when the dc discover they like my treats.
Your poor sister. Was it an emergency?

SpottyTeacakes · 12/08/2013 18:08

Oh WillYou hope she's ok.

Thanks WL. The reason I don't want him to have formula is because I think he's the sort to full on refuse bf if he gets used to it like he has in the evening.

jackandjilly · 12/08/2013 18:35

Hope your sister is ok willyou.

Stacks I love the car seat!

Spotty I am planning to give ds cows milk when I go back to work in sept. I think it was you who suggested it, found he will even drink it from a bottle! Success!Smile

How many days a week will you be working WL?

Steady day here, ds already fast asleep! Dd playing guess who with dh(who is mildly pissing me offGrinGrin) hiding upstairs!

WLmum · 12/08/2013 20:10

That's why I'm only giving it in a sippy spotty. Don't know if she'll drink it if course.
Just 3 days jack
After a decent nights sleep and 3 well behaved girls today I'm full of the joys. And it's my swim night, hoorah!

WillYouDoTheFandango · 12/08/2013 21:26

Have fun WL.

Yep appendix was on it's way to bursting. It had been tucked behind her bowel so she didn't feel it until the last minute. She's very sore and can barely bend but is okay as long as you don't make her laugh. Poor sister Sad

WLmum · 12/08/2013 22:35

Good thing they caught it.

Just doing a quick dream feed - we were late with tea so not sure how much milk went in at bedtime. Really hoping a top up will result in another great night.

Dm/mil are having big 2 all day tomorrow. What on earth will I do with myself with just one tiddler? Who knows, she might even get played with! Very much looking forward to some alone time with my special baby girl.

2blessed · 12/08/2013 22:43

Not posted in ages and feel like I have missed so much...

Congrats on the job spotty, hope hours get sorted soon.

Hope your sister gets better soon WIllYou. Thank God they caught it!

WL, you and DD will have a great time tomorrow.

All's ticking along here, R is crawling and holding on to stand up. He is on the move all of the time and keeping me on my toes!
He's been in bed for nearly an hour so having a bit of computer time and then some sleep before the first wake up. A friend suggested giving him cooled boiled water as opposed to bm when he wakes up during the night to discourage night wake ups. has anyone else tried this? I'm finding the 2/3 wake ups really difficult at the moment and its definitely putting a strain on me and DP. Feels like it is always something...

Tomorrow I'm writing my business case for flexible working. Hope its approved then I can confirm R's nursery place.

ddas · 12/08/2013 23:05

Keep losing the thread. From a quick read & the times I've read & then not had time to post:

spotty congrats on the job! Hope you get a positive response to your e-mail.

nutella congrats on the engagement.

utopian congrats on the flat offer hope it's all still going through. Know that area fairly well as used to live on that side of London but closer to the Essex Borders.

spotty I'd give formula rather than cows milk as has more nutients & vitamins. Plus before a yr their digestive systems aren't ready for it. Maybe give in a sippy cup rather than bottle to avoid him refusing the breast. If anything cows milk tastes better than formula.

Went back to work last week-part time. Slowly settling back in. Expressing at work but only to keep some supply up as it'll be hit & miss when I can do it depending on how busy the day is. Dd has formula at nursery/dm on days I'm at work in a bottle but as due to her weight issues she's always had a bottle top up she's still very happy to take breast when I'm there. Never had nipple confusion or nursing strikes (only when my supply goes down & she gets frustrated).

Chocolate us def part of a balanced diet :)

halestone · 12/08/2013 23:15

Willyou hope your sister is feeling better soonThanks

2blessed i've heard some people mention giving water instead of milk of a night but like everything to do with babies i've heard positive and negative things about it. I think its one of those things that only you know IYSWIM. Pidj has night weaned so she may be able to give you some better advice.

Ddas are you enjoying being back at work?

WillYouDoTheFandango · 12/08/2013 23:41

I tried switching milk for water for the night feeds around a month ago 2blessed, j definitely wasn't ready for it and went apeshit when he realised what it was. He screamed so much that instead of a quick 2am feed, we were up 2-5:30 before he'd calm down Confused. Not one of my finest moments!

I have heard loads of success stories though. Is your DD taking a full feed or just messing about at each feed? Maybe try to drop one at a time.

2blessed · 13/08/2013 04:32

He'll feed for about 5-10 minutes, no messing. Its the settling back thats a problem. Its just taken me 40 mins to settle him back to bed. Everytime I put him down he would wake up.

Quiet on the thread, hopefully lots of sleeping LO's and mums Smile

SpottyTeacakes · 13/08/2013 05:31

Eugh. 5am wake up and he won't go back down. I'm feeding him lying down but he's just growling Hmm

SpottyTeacakes · 13/08/2013 05:58

Dp is an arse. I've been pacifying ds since 5 but just now he starts having a right moan and shouting etc he didn't want cuddles or to sit up or anything so I just layer him down inbetween dp and I. Few minutes later dp looks at his phone (after pretending to be asleep the whole time) gets up and goes downstairs on his own!

WLmum · 13/08/2013 07:58

spotty that is arse-ish. I was feeding T in our bed from 5.50 til about 6.15 when I called DH up to come and get her (he got up at 6) for 30 mins before leaving for work.
No night feeds again here but I did have to straighten her up twice as she'd got stuck along the bottom, and she woke me twice more squeaking but then self settling. DH woke me twice too snoring.

2blessed did you say you're bfing? In that case I'd expect water in a bottle would cause more upset than just refusing to feed. I just did this with T and the last 2 nights she has slept through. I picked her up when she woke but refused to feed unless it was after 4 when she really might have been hungry while she adjusted, so settling took much longer but touch wood it was all done in under a week.

SpottyTeacakes · 13/08/2013 08:01

He redeemed himself by coming back upstairs, taking him and giving him breakfast. I don't get him sometimes! I think ds woke because he needed a poo (a massive one Shock)

He can pull up properly now much to dd's annoyance when she's sat at her table eating breakfast Grin

2blessed I agree with WL.

Has anyone with older dc taken them to Harrods Santa grotto?

2blessed · 13/08/2013 08:14

Thanks WL, its going to hurt but will give it a go.
Brought him into our bed and only just put him back in his own. Think I've got maybe another half hour before he's up for the day.
spotty my god-daughter goes to santa at harrods every year. I'm thinking of booking to take R this year for 1st ristmas.

2blessed · 13/08/2013 08:15

Yep still bfing

WLmum · 13/08/2013 08:37

Glad to hear it spotty

2blessed it won't be as bad you fear, and I truly believe that each time I've sleep trained my dds they have been happier for it (as well as me obv!) as they get better rest.

WLmum · 13/08/2013 10:51

Pil are so weird. They are generally nice helpful people who do a lot for us and dds adore them. But I just picked up a car seat that they were storing for us and its in a right state. There are paint splashes on the back, its got a tear in the cover and is generally mucky. It's obv been in their garage without even a dust sheet on. They (fil) have issues with storing stuff for us - when we moved we left some large potted plants in their garden - most of them died as they didn't water them once! It wouldn't be so bad but they keep all their things pristine. I wish they'd said they didn't want to store it and I've have found somewhere else for it. Oh well, won't ask again (shouldn't need to actually as I'm never ever moving again unless we win a huge amount of money!!)
