Old thread here.

We seemed to be running out of space (again) so I made us a new thread.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
vjhist85 · 18/08/2013 17:01

Yes eco- read the bra intervention threads! I went from wearing horrible 40DD nursing bras and feeling very depressed, frumpy, and grim about them to a 36G! Feel much better! And look thinner. And yes wors, there are nicer places to buy bras than m&s, although for me that's because m&s believe that if you're a G cup you're also 80yrs old and only want frumpy old lady bras... If you're a more sensible size then they're ok I think!

KFFOREVER · 18/08/2013 17:47

leni im in Bromley. I think its your neighbouring borough. Greenwich is a cool place to live. Its where the marathon starts and now has a royal borough status.

stormy can i borrow some duct tape please. Dummy dancing every hour from 1am is not fun.

When does this wonder week malarky end? He had a feed 3.30am then refused to feed until 3.30pm. Shock it also takes us over an hour to put him to sleep. I currently have a grizzly overtired baby rolling around.

worse sorry to hear you feeling so poorly. I didnot think that was even possible. Glad you are feeling much better.

Sleep deprived me has forgot to catch up with the rest of you. Being on laptop than phone is so much harder. Even though im having a rough ride with a fussy ds i think he is soo cute and miss him when hes asleep.

SoYo · 18/08/2013 21:43

Eco the Sunday roast was so worth it and madam agreed! The meltdown on the drive home then sleep and now bed refusal, less so. As for. The bras I went from 36B to 32E and feel much bett for it, although it took a while to get used to it being tit around my ribs rather than a bit loose over the bottom of my boobs. I got 2 lovely bras from bravissimo after failing elsewhere.

Hi Wing, welcome back!

Plonkysaurus · 18/08/2013 22:24

Ooh lots to catch up on. Bras, roasts, syrupy babies, and some old faces to welcome back.

Just checking in really, will catch up properly tomorrow. Busy weekend of wedding, birthday and so much food and wine I think I may have gout. Sleep well babies, enjoy your nights ladies.

ecofreckle · 18/08/2013 22:37

A tit typo on a post about bras! Brilliant! Thanks soyo

worsestershiresauce · 19/08/2013 07:29

Morning all - good to hear I'm not the only one with re-hoiked boobs thanks to the wisdom on MN. Makes you wonder though, why do M&S et al persist with the measure your ribs then add 4 inches bllcks when it patently is bllcks. I don't get it. Surely in the interest of making more sales they would use a measuring technique that actually works and doesn't leave their customers walking around with their underwear riding about all over the place. Speaking of M&S, they have me similarly pigeon holed at the other end of the scale VJ, as being a rather petite 30C their assumption is I am a girlie girl of approx 12 years old hence I have a lovely range of brightly coloured efforts with flowers on. God help me if I need to wear a white shirt!

Did somebody mention sunday roasts. I hate sunday roasts. Well to clarify I hate cooking sunday roasts (eating them is another thing entirely). Decided against better judgement to roast a chicken yesterday, and boy to I regret that one. Blasted thing had fat bird credentials, so despite changing the oven tray 3 times, and draining off the excess fat, it still spat and smoked and general stank. The house, my hair, my clothes... everything, all stank of chicken fat, and not in a nice ummmm roast dinner way, in a ugh, fast food joint way. Never again. We usually have anything but a roast on a sunday and as of now I am reverting to type.

Leni any insight into ds's sweet aroma? DD used to smell a bit like carnation milk at times when she was tiny, but not any more. New washing powder maybe? clutching at straws here

Plonky sounds like a top weekend. Mine was a bit boring in comparison. Next weekend will be less so as apparently the ILs are descending en masse, and want to baby sit, so DH and I will get a night out!!!!!

Eco the peach did not go down well. In fact it did not go down at all! This weaning thing.... the tiddler does not approve. She likes licking her bib though, so perhaps I should just cut out the middle stage and smear her food on that.

Something enjoy Edinburgh. Exciting times!!!

Ah, she's awake, I'm on duty.... wishing you all good days.

SoYo · 19/08/2013 08:33

Hopefully there's a pic of madam enjoying her dinner on my profile!

worsestershiresauce · 19/08/2013 08:53

Aww adorable SoYo. That's like proper food as well! Well done mini-yo

ecofreckle · 19/08/2013 09:42

soyo what a lovely happy girl!

pudtat · 19/08/2013 10:03

She looks like she's loving that! Brilliant.

Something, best of luck. You'll be back before you know it and DS will be so proud of his mum when he's older. Enjoy!

StormyBrid · 19/08/2013 12:15

She's the second cutest thing I've seen today, SoYo (the cutest was a tiny kitten, even my own baby can't compete against that).

OP posts:
Eigmum · 19/08/2013 18:16

Soyo sooooo cuteeeeee !

SoYo · 19/08/2013 18:42

Aah thanks guys. She's not been quite so cute today, we went out for lunch & she had a meltdown so epic I had to leave a restaurant fur the first time. Even the wonder boobs didn't soothe her!

StormyBrid · 19/08/2013 18:46

It's quiet today. All babies behaving themselves beautifully?

Six months is coming up fast. I'm mentally writing up the skills list. So far, we have achieved: decent night sleep; eating mush with great enthusiasm; variations on the letter B (with copious amounts of spit), sitting up unaided. Still to master: rolling front to back, anything remotely like speech, being sleepy without hitting herself in the face. Where's everyone else at?

OP posts:
Plonkysaurus · 19/08/2013 19:13

Ah finally got a few minutes to myself while DP attempts to feed a very screamy baby.

We had a lovely,if rather busy, weekend. Everyone at my friends wedding fawned all over ds. It was a lovely ceremony, despite the brides toddler having a full on melt down and screaming 'NOOOO!' Whenever the registrar spoke. And the groom on the cake kept toppling over. Hopefully not bad omens. After that we dropped ds off at my parents so we could have a night off, and went out for an enormous steak and bottle of red to celebrate my birthday. The next day my parents forced us to eat an enormous roast dinner, I couldn't have asked for a better birthday!

It turns out grandma likes to feed ds. On Sunday he ate a bit of plum crumble and custard. Not your standard baby mush but he loved it all the same.

SoYo such a cutie Grin.

Something I hope you're enjoying Edinburgh . It'll fly by, and you'll be back before you know it. Your gorgeous boy will have a huge toothy grin for you, no doubt.

Stormy good checklist. So far we've nailed: sleeping through, eating purées (apple, pear and mango today), long bursts of very happy giggles, lots of mer-mer-mer gibber jabbering (though nothing especially convincing) and slapping. Instead of hitting himself in the face he's now prone to slapping his thighs and tummy when tired. Things we need to improve : rolling- in any direction (instead of moving himself towards a toy he tends to just pull the playmat so the toy comes to him), sleeping past 6 am, afternoon naps, sitting up unaided (still leaning on his hands like a silverback).

I've decided ds's personality falls into that of Little Researcher. He will spend lots of time quietly contemplating things, studying them from every angle, turning them over and passing them from hand to hand, and licking them. He likes to sit with me, DP or my mum when he first gets a new toy before being happy to play with it on his own. Though he's prone to episodes of shrieking he's generally quiet and content.

Anypants · 19/08/2013 19:15

Ooh stormy - we've got:
Reaching and grabbing
Proper giggling (once)
Sleeping through
Press ups followed by rolling from front to back
Toe sucking
Eating (read smushing into face) carrot sticks, banana and a piece of ham
Holding (but not actually drinking from) a sippy cup

Currently not:
Sitting unaided
Rolling from back to front
Attempting to crawl

Anypants · 19/08/2013 19:18

Oh and DD's new game is grabbing a part of my face and drawing blood with her vice like grip and short fingernails. Yesterday it was the nise, today my bottom lip.

Anypants · 19/08/2013 19:19

Er, nose Blush

Plonkysaurus · 19/08/2013 19:32

any we've got lots of face grabbing too. If you dare to speak while holding him you'll suddenly find tiny fingers in your mouth. No blood though Shock.

Toe sucking must make up for that a bit though eh?

KFFOREVER · 19/08/2013 20:51

We've got-

Eating purees with enjoyment.
Full rolls (including rolling to parts of the room with cables and plants and chewing on them)
Giggles like crazy (but only with dh)
Attempting to crawl and ends up looking like he is swimming when he gets frustrated.
Grabbing everything including hair remote controls mobiles.
Self soothes to sleep with an aid of a dummy.

Still yet to-
sleep through
Stop fighting naps
Sit unaiding
Eating solids without getting constipated.
Stop crying from being scared when someone coughs or sneezes. (hes a sensitive soul)

StormyBrid · 19/08/2013 21:19

Remotes! DD thinks they are the Best Thing Ever. Should I take the batteries out before she slurps all over it, or is a little bit of electrocution good for the soul?

Grabbing hair is hilarious. Almost funny enough to make up for mummy having the temerity to have a face that is too big to eat. She managed a cracking shot with the dribble the other day though, straight up my brother's nose. That's my girl!

Are we being a bit ahead with the sitting up? I lose track of what they're meant to do when.

Would talk more, but burger is ready and I best get it home to the man. Seem to have spent the afternoon having a rather maudlin conversation with my dad about how buggered my mum is now, while drinking six pints.

OP posts:
SoYo · 19/08/2013 22:27

You are indeed ahead Stormy! Grin

We have: massive giggles, shrieks, babbles and all general noisiness. Rolling both ways. Toe-sucking. Pulling herself up to standing on our fingers. Standing holding onto sofa. Eating anything she can get her greedy little hands on. Recognising name well.

We don't have: sitting up, at all, just not interested! Drinking from a bottle. Sleeping. Napping. Any time off!

These 6 months have flown by!

SoYo · 19/08/2013 22:28

Ah yes we also have hair pulling, face scratching and eye gouging plus a love for chewing the remotes or an iPhone. Fun fun fun!

vjhist85 · 19/08/2013 23:45

We have:
Rolling front to back
Hysterical giggling (especially at daddy)
Putting food into mouth and biting bits off (little chewing or swallowing yet)
Standing with the aid of one hand (I'm convinced this baby will never crawl but will be walking at 9 months)
Hair-pulling/face-grabbing/fish-hooking
Decent hand eye coordination
Can sleep through, but isn't any more
Recognising name
A vague routine (it's taken 5 months)
Ridiculous flirty smiles with any person who talks to her (or just in her general vicinity)

We do not have:
Sitting unaided
Any interest in crawling
Any consistency in nap length (still usually only 40mins ish)
Self-settling (irritatingly we did til about 3 months, I think I over-parented it out of her!!)

worsestershiresauce · 20/08/2013 07:13

Uh oh... I'll not be showing DH your lists any time soon or he'll get himself all paranoid that the worselet is behind, and needs additional coaching. I had to do the whole 'your child is an individual not a statistic' thing on him yesterday when she turned up her nose at yet more purée, but got ridiculously excited by the prospect of a far more acceptable foodstuff i.e. milk.

so, hmm, we have:
Rolling both ways, although this has diminished massively since the addition of toe sucking to the mix. It is v hard to roll when you have one or both feet in your mouth.
Toe sucking (see above)
Grabbing, grasping, holding on, yanking things (especially hair, my hair, not hers...)
Holding things in front of her face, examining them, and 'talking' to them
Cooing, shouting, conversational noises
Trying desperately hard to crawl, getting nowhere, and wailing in frustration
Sleeping through (I love her for this)
Smiles, laughs, giggles, happiness
Recognising me, DH and the dogs
An obvious personality, and a reasonably good routine

We do not have:
Sitting up, which given the size of her head is no big surprise. Poor child needs a splint.
Appreciation of any foodstuff other than milk
Self settling. She did this for the first time last week, but I don't think once counts, unless there is any sign it might be repeated, which there isn't
Recognising her name, basically she has never been called it Confused. I really must make an effort. Currently she has any number of names, not one of which is actually on her birth certificate.

As an aside anyone else noticed any funnies or traits? The tiddler is a true theatrical. Likes to lean back with the back of her hand on her forehead like a 1940s actress feigning a swoon, or to grab something and yank it backwards and forwards when eating. It's most bizarre.
