Oh FFS wrote a long and decidedly entertaining post and my stupid rural lack of signal swallowed it. I'll summarise.

Eco thats so sad, that poor family. It sounds like a lovely community though, and I imagine that the baby will grow up with lots of support.
Also totally agree on man doctors. I felt like a right lemon baring my rashy boobs and bleeding nips to a particularly gorgeous doctor when struggling to bf. I completely neglected to mention my post parting piles!

Vj mam bottles are the work of the devil, but the teats are the only ones DS will take. We use boots wide necked bottles with the tears. Not a perfect fit but you're not going to lose your mind with then during a night feed.

Had a nice day here. Met up with Something for a chin wag and a walk in the park. It turns out we gave birth in the same hospital! Got home to a poonami though. Have now washed all of ds's 6 month+ clothes as he's a long little bugger. I broke out the tape measure and it turns out he's nearly 70cms. Hence breaking out of 3-6 month clothes. Durrr silly mummy.

OodPi · 02/07/2013 20:08

That's on my list for this week too plonko lots of half mast dungarees here!

worsestershiresauce · 02/07/2013 20:31

Eig Glad to hear you got out and about, and lived up to my sartorial expectations for you Wink. We did the same here it's what keeps me sane

Eco Sad Sometimes life really sucks, and for the people who least deserve it.

Way to go ladies on the fitness front! VJ Dunloran would be do-able, just, but given the need to factor in the baby-led window of opportunity, it might be a bit stressful. Even if I stuffed a bottle down the worselet and ran out of the door, there would be a fairly high probability of a mid-class melt down. I'll keep working on Mr nicer trainer man or defect to his rival Ms nice trainer lady for now.

Pud Sock ons?! Now there's a thing I never knew had been invented. This parenting lark... there is so much to learn. Sometimes I feel like I'm 50 yards behind the rest of the pack and running backwards.

We also went on a nursery viewing, for no particular reason other than it was their open day and I'm a nosey cow. Looked lovely. Won't be using it until the tiddler is 3 (!), but hey, it's good to plan.

Had a bit of a small world experience today. A car pulled up and an old school friend stuck her head out. Not seen her for 19 years, and it turns out that for the last 6 we've lived a few miles apart!

Eigmum · 02/07/2013 22:46

So mini is a snotty mess. Had first ever major fail at getting her to sleep in propped up cot so she is asleep at end of our bed in her buggy as she is better propped up there. The things we do. Really suffering with her nose though poor thing. Hard to feed etc. gosh this baby business is exhausting! Hope you all have good nights. Tonight reminded me of the bad old six week days.

SoYo · 03/07/2013 01:26

We had a terrible bedtime, screamed for over an hour (complete bloody breakdown) & now up 2hrs later. It's starting to annoy me that our sleep seems to have peaked at week 13 & is deteriorating week by week since. I'm shattered. Sad

pudtat · 03/07/2013 05:00

Poor minieig again. She really is putting her dp through it and especially you Eig. Hope she pulls round quickly. I guess rota will have knocked her for six and prob left her more vulnerable to other infections poor thing. Yes, we have 3rd jabs next week and it includes new rotavirus one.

And poor Soyo. It does sound like your LO is lovely but a bit high maintenance. Lets hope she gets it out of her system now and you get away with an easy ride through the toddler years. In the meantime have some Brew and sympathy.

I have an appt at the fpc today to try and arrange getting a coil fitted. My gp is happy to just do it but with Hols etc can't until early August. But fpc insist on initial appt, so may not be any quicker... I hadn't realised the lead in times would be so long. It's already a fortnight since I contacted gp with decision. Sigh.

Blooming horrible weather here at the moment. Perfect for managing the boy about town... Wink

Thanks Pud, that's exactly how I'd describe Miss Madam! She's so full of giggles and smiles and wonder, examining and feeling and sticking in her gob and dribbling over everything, completely adorable but also a pain in the bum. I can cope with the not napping at home as I'm out and about a lot anyway and I'm sure it'll come with time but its the regressive nights that are such a killer and the prolonged bedtime screaming fits and transfer fails. I've just no idea how to make that better! As for the bottle, well that's just her liking her own way! She better be a dream to wean or I'll be asking for a baby exchange!!!

SoYo · 03/07/2013 05:59

Oh and Pud I had my coil fitted today and it was a breeze, I've been waiting about 6 weeks though! The GP refused to fit it while I was breastfeeding despite me being a complete arises know-it-all and explaining to her that goes against national guidance so referred me through to my old hospital! Always nice to catch up with old friends while your legs are in stirrups!!

SoYo · 03/07/2013 06:00

That was arse know it all rather than arises! This iPad does try hard to stop my pottymouth!

pudtat · 03/07/2013 07:27

Ha ha. Yes, mine tries to clean up my act all the time...

Good to know that fitting was ok. And that its not just being down in the country which means these things take so long. Does rather undo the benefit of it taking immediate effect... Smile

Eigmum · 03/07/2013 08:10

pundat do you know what they are doing about the booster for that then or did you already have the first rotavirus one at an earlier stage? Given there are a number if strains and mini eig tendency to catch everything going I'd like her to have the vaccine.

Eigmum · 03/07/2013 08:13

Just looked it up, seems we will miss out as NHS page says they need to have first dose pre 15 weeks so only offered to babies born after 1 May .....

pudtat · 03/07/2013 09:08

Hmmm. I will need to check his red book. We were right in the window of change which was about June here. He has to have next shots to enable a booster after 4 weeks but before he is 25 weeks, which works for us - he will be 16.5 next week for jabs, plus 4 equals around 20.5 for boosters...

First lot were the 5 in one, plus pcv . Second were 5 in one plus meningitis. Next time is one jab and one drop on the tongue I think though baby brain goes a bit fuzzy when people are sticking needles in him.

SoYo · 03/07/2013 17:28

Hi all,

Jabs done. We've missed the window for rotavirus jabs apparently, at our surgery they're only offering it to babies having their 8 week jabs from the start of this week. We didn't get MenC booster either as they're now giving this as teenagers again.

Madam doesn't seem to be affected yet but we'll see what tonight brings. Going out for dinner tonight for DMs birthday so a late night for madam not that we've managed to get her to sleep early anytime recently so I'm just hoping we don't have our nightly screaming fit in the restaurant!

What's everyone up to today? Anything exciting?

StormyBrid · 03/07/2013 17:58

Jabs today here too. Bad mummy forgot the calpol beforehand. This baby's got a hell of a pair of lungs on her. Bath and bedtime needed, methinks.

plonko · 03/07/2013 19:25

We also had jabs today. I was quite surprised about the men c one being done at the age of 14 now. The nurse was making out that this is somehow worse for 'the poor little things'. Ha! Stormy I've never done calpol first extremely bad mummy he screamed for about 10 seconds after the pneumococcal jab then was happy as Larry. Until 4pm when the world ended and my ear drums nearly perforated.

And we've run out of wine!

StormyBrid · 03/07/2013 19:37

I picked DD up and started shushing her and rocking her. She immediately stopped crying. For one lovely moment I thought "At last, I'm getting the hang of this mothering business!' Then I realised she'd got distracted by Wimbledon. Clearly the tv is a better parent in some respects.

plonko · 03/07/2013 19:44

We've had a lot of that sudden screaming today. I say we. I mean that I have been screamed at consistently since 4 pm. He's in bed now, lets hope this silence lasts! The screaming stops just as suddenly as it starts.

Things that help include :
Cuddles
Being put down
Trumping
The favourite alligator toy
Wimbledon
Mummy saying 'bobo' over and over like a loon.

Things that don't help :
Daddys face (this went down well, as you can imagine)
Mummy saying 'bobo'
Being picked up
Being put down
Borris Becker

I feel like I need to scream into a pillow. Have just eaten creamy cheesey pasta (despite officially not eating pasta) and am going for a cigarette (despite not smoking anymore) and then I might have some chocolate. Alright, my baby's turned me into a chubby wheezy crummy mummy today!

Eigmum · 03/07/2013 21:15

New bed time routine for mini eig, bath, feed and into chair in front if Andy murrary. She feel asleep at break point so deeply that I just moved her to cot and she is still asleep! Clearly murrary mania hasn't reached mini eig!

Eigmum · 03/07/2013 21:33

vj I got some non anti colic, ie normal man bottles with number 3 teats in boots that were big but didn't have the silly bottom bit. Then just use the number 1 teats although given mini eig only has an ounce from them we aren't really testing them but I keep baking them and offering then in the hope one day we can move on from bf.

Eigmum · 03/07/2013 21:33

Or even making!

vjhist85 · 03/07/2013 21:34

Ok- so today was officially our first 24 hrs of 100% ff. it's taken me a while. I've been back and forth, cried a lot (although not as much as dd!) changed my mind hourly, but today we have been relaxed, happy, and totally formula fed. Apart from the boobs that never feel totally comfortable (I miss that feeling of being completely empty!) I'm feeling so much better about everything today, helped, no doubt, by the celebratory 'I can drink lots now' wine. I think I needed the decision to be taken away from me, and when I realised that there was a definite effect on my supply, that decision was made.

Today I bought my first item of clothing without considering how I could bf in it. It's for the yr11 prom tomorrow night, I've gone through my teaching career with this year group so I'm looking forward to seeing them all grown up.

My concerns are

  1. I now need to diet BIG TIME. Bfing is no longer an excuse, I have 5st to lose to get to a healthy weight, and it's going to be much harder without losing all those calories through breastfeeding.
  1. Night feeds. Urrghh. Going downstairs to heat feed wakes me up. Then I can't get back to sleep. Rubbish.
  1. Today is the first day ever where dd hasn't pooed. If I was still bf I wouldn't be concerned. Should I be now?
  1. Drinking too much wine means I've done no marking tonight. Which means I'm VERY behind.

By the way, potential 30 degrees next week. We're already struggling to get DD's room below 24 at night. God knows what we'll do. Any smart ideas from anyone?

Hope you're all having a lovely, successful transfer-y, lots of sleep-y, very happ-y evenings

worsestershiresauce · 03/07/2013 21:36

Evening all! Another busy day here chez worse... although busy doing what I'm not entirely sure. Still trying to work out how DH being off on leave and happy to help out results in my having less time to mumsnet do important admin than when he is at work Hmm. Most odd. Then again, might have something to do with fact I can get properly out when off duty, which I must confess is something of a treat. Might even get slightly fit now given the pool is something I can actually get into rather than simply gaze longingly at.

Glad the jabs went well everyone - we've got ours tomorrow. I may send the man in with her as the whole sharp stabby object in small chunky thigh thing is not good for my equilibrium. The worselet copes fine. Me less so. Fingers crossed she isn't too out of sorts afterwards as we are supposed to be spending the weekend at the evil in-laws HELP

Plonko Nooooo.... sounds like an afternoon to forget. What's with mini-plonk? Any ideas? Mini-worse has also been a bit off kilter of late, so I've been googling 17 week wonder weeks. Sounds like a load of old horse poo but I'm beginning to wonder (geddit..... sorry Grin) if there might be something in it. She's a bit fussy, a bit hungry, or not hungry, or even hungry and not hungry at the same time Confused, a tad clingy and very sleepy although extremely difficult to get to drop off. I'm v glad the man is at home this week, and more importantly as well as being at home is also a help. I sometimes have to pinch myself that he is the same bloke. He's flipped from power crazed career driven megalomaniac ( ok, so I exaggerate... a bit) to soppy devoted home body daddy. Wonders will never cease...

I'm clearly missing a trick re the sedative powers of tennis. If the tiddler doesn't calm her small self down soon I may have to resort to the watching it.

All is quiet. I think DH has got madam off to sleep!

worsestershiresauce · 03/07/2013 21:48

Hi VJ missed your post. We must have been doing a bit of simultaneous typing.

My advice, don't worry about anything, just enjoy a more predictable routine and have a drink Smile.

  1. Bf-ing makes you hungry so your appetite will drop off, and ff leaves you with more time to get out for a walk. So, less munching and more walking = smaller waistline. Result!
  1. You won't be doing night feeds for much longer. Formula is much more filling so dd will start sleeping through. Theoretically.
  1. It took mini-worse a few days to adjust, and she still occasionally goes 2 days. She usually makes up for this by doing 2 extra special nappies for me back to back. So I wouldn't worry yet.
  1. Denial. Works for me Grin

As for room temp can you open windows in various rooms and leave doors open to get a through draught?

vjhist85 · 03/07/2013 21:51

Forgot to say

  1. Not bfing is making it VERY difficult not to convince myself it would be ok to have a cig. 11 months since the last. Not that I'm counting. Or desperate.
