Jan 2013 Part 4: More noises, movements and more sleep?! Hmmmm

New thread!

I leave B during the night until he's making persistent noise - I don't usually wake up til then anyway! He's always wide awake; he's never done the dream feed thing. I tickle under his neck or blow gently on his face to keep him awake...

He's still in with us but will be going in his own room once his blackout blind arrives and we've given it a good Hoover. Probably in the next week or so.

B is still mostly in 0-3 clothes Shock. I've started putting him in 3-6 vests but his other things mostly look far too big on him still (he's 19weeks). Sainsburys stuff is bigger though, as is Asda.

Hubby has taken B out for a long walk so that I can get some of this marking done. Bailey seemed to think that 3 15min naps today was acceptable so he's been doing my head in and I've gotten absolutely nothing done. He's just point blank refused to sleep today.

Wow sleep deprivation must be catching!

Hugs to all those suffering. I am knackered and on sofa! LO is doing much better since in cot but is still up to feed at 11pm, 2am and 4am. Always takes a minimum of 45 mins to feed and resettle. Can't wait til DP comes back from his hol Envy and take over the 11pm feed again.

The good thing is that after the 4am waking he has been going back to sleep in his cot til 7am which is a massive lie in for him. Sadly my friend's baby who was staying was up at six both mornings so I didn't get the full benefit!

Friend's baby (13 mo) was horrible to my LO too :( Eye poking, sun hat snatching, toy snatching, punched him in the nose, shaking the jumperoo, shaking the highchair! He is off the scale for height and weight and is about the size of a 2-3 year old. I was scared to leave the room for a second, it was really upsetting!

Angie he likes sleeping face down now too Hmm.

Bugsy the poo, good god the poo :(

Birdies have you tried eg just giving her a banana or strawberry and help her to hold it? I couldn't believe how LO demolished an overripe banana by sort of sucking it in and eating a bit at a time.

His tiny bottom teeth are finally showing through. So far no nipple bites, long may the good behaviour last!

Lora1982 · 30/06/2013 17:30

Ugh nap refuser days back. He has finally fell sleep...in his jumperoo!! And im too scared to move him. Its fine to leave him in it surely?

AppleCrumples · 30/06/2013 19:59

meringue i swear Ivy nearly bit my nipple righr off the other day! :( the teeth marks, the pain!!! Sympathies with friends baby, is so hard when you don't feel.safe to leave them for a mo.

Sorry for all the rotten sleepers. It must be the heat. Ivy was a total nap refuser today and refused to be put down or handed over to anyone.

Whoever said their baby didn't seem to bothered by food (sorry can't go back and see on phone) i really wouldn't worry. They really only need milk for a while yet. Its just tastes at the moment. Some are ready earlier than others but they all get there in the end! Ivy 6 months (where did the time go?) and still only has a little off the spoon once a day. She has tried loads but some days doesn't have any solids (like today got puree out of freezer bur never actually gave it to her).

Today was ok. I always panic beforehand then its all fine! Looking forward to quiet day tomorrow tho :)

Pascha · 30/06/2013 22:26

DS1 wasn't bothered with food til at least 9 months. Daniel is doing ok with banana, breadsticks, cucumber sticks, plain yoghurt with mango but the mango keeps coming back out, he looks very cute with his sippy cup and seems to like water. He's not eating regular meals yet, just having a bit of this and that on his tray and mostly dropping it down his bib Grin

Don't worry, Birdies, they've got another six months til they need to be eating more food than milk.

All the mums using matchsticks to prop eyes open and mainlining caffeine -

happyhow · 01/07/2013 07:19

That's brill pasha!! I just showed it to B and he giggled through the whole thing... Grin

Woo tooth number two. Both at the bottom so he'll look like one of those weird fish which has teeth sticking out.

Kind of gives him a reason for being a clingy mard yesterday. Poor soul was probably in pain which I can empathise with. Had two teeth out ten days ago and the gum still aches and gives me headaches

Pascha · 01/07/2013 17:58

Dan is destroying a pile of mashed potato with carrots and brocolli mixed in. He's quite upset when the spoon is removed to swap for a preloaded one! I am frankly gobsmacked because DS1 flatly refused a spoon from the get-go and preferred to get his hands stuck in.

mrsbugsywugsy · 01/07/2013 18:26

dd had mashed potato with peas and tuna mashed in! i tried her with a spoon but she just kept grabbing it and poking herself in the eye with it. so now I just let her use her hands.

mrsbugsywugsy · 01/07/2013 18:29

I've also tried her with a cup but she can't seem to manage to drink from it. does anyone know if she needs to drink water now she is eating or is breastmilk enough liquid for her?

Meringue33 · 01/07/2013 18:30

Does anyone know if its ok to give them rice at this age ie normal rice not baby rice? Eg if I made a risotto for us using baby stock then blended a bit for him?

Pascha · 01/07/2013 18:45

Normal rice is fine. I've never bought baby rice. If he's 6 months old you don't need to blend it.

A cup isn't essential yet as breastmilk will quench her thirst. Good to start offering a sippy cup or doidy cup with meals though, just to get her playing with them.

mrsbugsywugsy · 01/07/2013 18:45

I gave dd sticky rice and she loved it. I think after six months they can have most things

mrsbugsywugsy · 01/07/2013 18:46

thanks pascha

Meringue33 · 01/07/2013 18:48

Bugsy I think bm is supposed to be enough at this age but I've given him a little cooled boiled water just to help him poop!

Meringue33 · 01/07/2013 18:49

Cool, thanks both! He is six mo next week :)

Lora1982 · 01/07/2013 19:30

Ive been giving him a sippy cup he loves it... til it goes cold. Think ive bred a greedy one he threw a hissy fit everytime he dropped his rusk. Im getting better thats the second chunky thing ive given him so im slowly getting over my choking fear.

octanegirl · 01/07/2013 21:10

All these tired people...me too...plus I'm working all day as well which is hard enough anyway. At least I can work from home but I means I can't try and nap as there isn't time.

Salt that's so funny. She is isn't she!!! Sleeping through from 6 weeks my arse.

As for weaning - he's 6 months old in just over 2 weeks. I have stuck my finger in his mouth once or twice with yoghurt etc on it and he just pulls faces. I might give him something on a spoon and see. Or just wait. I don't know. I'm too tired to think straight.

Meringue33 · 01/07/2013 21:39

I looked at the GF routines for six mo. She recommends no naps after 2.30pm so baby goes down well at 7pm. Just for fun I tried it - he screamed from 4.30pm til 6pm at which point we both had a big nap before dinner later! This LO loves his nap time it is needed!

She also thinks a six mo should have dropped the dream feed and sleep 7-7 with no wakings! Lol!!!

BuntyCollocks · 01/07/2013 22:23

Evening all!

Dd doesn't like using her hands in anything messy (mothers daughter Hmm ), but loves using a loaded spoon. I've started with the doidy, she can't use it herself, but will happily take a wee gulp here and there.

My DGM is freaking out that dd is having foods like we eat ie last night was chilli, tonight mac and cheese. Apparently, she should only have mashed potato and gravy. This is why she's not sleeping. Hmm ah, pensioners. Reminded her I've done this once before, and she's raised her children, and grandchildren!

AppleCrumples · 01/07/2013 22:25

Good grief meringue! Ivy often refuses to settle for a nap during school run etc and is always a screaming cranky mess by 5, there is no way i would encourage that the woman must be a sadist! Also she sleeps much better at night if she has a proper late pm nap.

I don't think i've ever met a baby who consistently sleeps through without any feeds. I consider Ivy to be a great sleeper at night but we will still be up once btn 3-6. She is currently crying but wierdly fast asleep...why do all.babies do this?! :(

Re weaning you know your baby so you do what works for you. Ivy stole some crusts off a plate earlier but didn't really eat them as such. She loves the purees sp far but hated ready brek. Its still just tastes though. Tried butternut squash today and loved it. Will try giving some toast on the side tomorrow.

At school i keep getting Hmm when i say shes not yet on 3 solid meals. There seems tp be a real push to get them all onto solids. The fact i am still bf also get Hmm. Mostly i smile and nod whilst collecting the 3 dcs who have somehow survived my madness

lora rusks are good as they go all.mushy so less worry of choking.

mrsbugsy do you give yoghurts at all? Ibwas told by hv when dd1 suddenly started refusing breast that yoghurts can count as liquid in keeping hydrated.

Wishing all a good nights sleep! :)

AppleCrumples · 01/07/2013 22:32

Bunty my dm is like this still! Apparently i should be offering bottles of water and it should be 10 mins on each boob at each feed Grin. Tbf shes better now. 10 years ago she was quite horrified that ds1 wasn't getting any extra water

happyhow · 01/07/2013 22:48

B sat unaided for the first time tonight for ages! Usually he just topples over but he was quite happy sitting in his sleeping bag playing with Daddy when he should have been sound asleep but Daddy got him all worked up... No rolling or teeth though.

On the weaning front, B gets either 2 cubes of fruit in the morning or gave him the Heinz powdered yoghurt and fruit thing with some mango this morning. Forgot I had it but will come in handy while on hols next week and he enjoyed it! At lunch, he gets 2 cubes of veg and maybe a cube of fruit if he seems hungry still and in the evening, he may or may not take one cube of something. Going to start introducing a bit of yoghurt I think but not really sure when to make things lumpier or add meat etc. going to the HV on weds though. Gave him some bread today and it was spat straight out...

Just bought some of that teething jewellery. Has anyone else had it? B keeps pulling on my necklaces and he's into nibbling on everything at the mo so thought I'd give it a go.

It's hilarious, apples. Even my DM has some strange ideas. She ebf my sister and I, but was still Shock when I said technically dd doesn't need any extra liquids.

She is also of tr opinion that babies can be manipulative (I refused to sleep in my bed for 3 years - all my fault ;) ), so I should leave dd to cry it out as she did with my poor dsis, that DS should not be napping for 3 hours a day, and that the appropriate punishment for DS being a bugger at the weekend was to not let him go to his friends party - he's 2!

I just smile and nod, and ignore. ;)

BuntyCollocks · 01/07/2013 22:51

happy yay! Well done wee one!

Both my DC have amber teething necklaces. I didn't even know DS had cut any of his teeth until they just appeared. Hoping the same happens with dd. it could be coincidence, but not taking the risk!

Pascha · 02/07/2013 09:00

Lovely Happy . Dan can sit for a good few seconds but only if you get him in just the right position leaning forward over his legs, otherwise its just a game of "guess which way the baby will fall" (anyone remember that from Big Breakfast back in the nineties?

Dan is just getting stuff plonked on his tray or in his hand whenever we are eating at the moment, he's not officially 6 months til saturday so its just bits of this and bits of that - cucumber, chunky slices of pepper, breadstick, mango etc, a bit of mash with veg in, plain yoghurt with puree mixed in and 2 spoons. At the weekend I shall start offering chip sized bits of whatever we're having - sunday will be roast dinner and he will get a piece of chicken, roast potato, roasted carrot, brocolli tree, a yorkshire pudding maybe?

I know it all just goes in and slowly falls out again but for us this time is more about learning to manoeuvre it into his mouth, learning to chew, new tastes etc. Any food that actually gets swallowed is a bonus Grin
