Jan 2013 Part 4: More noises, movements and more sleep?! Hmmmm

New thread!

I leave B during the night until he's making persistent noise - I don't usually wake up til then anyway! He's always wide awake; he's never done the dream feed thing. I tickle under his neck or blow gently on his face to keep him awake...

He's still in with us but will be going in his own room once his blackout blind arrives and we've given it a good Hoover. Probably in the next week or so.

B is still mostly in 0-3 clothes Shock. I've started putting him in 3-6 vests but his other things mostly look far too big on him still (he's 19weeks). Sainsburys stuff is bigger though, as is Asda.

Hubby has taken B out for a long walk so that I can get some of this marking done. Bailey seemed to think that 3 15min naps today was acceptable so he's been doing my head in and I've gotten absolutely nothing done. He's just point blank refused to sleep today.

Thanks all, feeling much better today. Both DC slept well last night, so feeling human again 😋

We started baby led weaning last Monday, and she is ridiculous to be honest. She's eating better than my toddler. She flips if someone is eating and she's not, has decided she likes to spoon feed herself (not particularly keen on using her hands), and is exceptionally frustrated that she doesn't have any teeth and therefore can't actually bite/tear bits of food.

She had an attack of the screaming abdabs today when I had a sandwich and she had stroganoff. She had been perfectly happy until I started eating, and then went mental.

I've never known anything like this. It's mental. DS really couldn't give a shit about eating: she LOVES IT.

Loving weaning her. So much fun!

DS refusing to eat. Joy!

BuntyCollocks · 24/06/2013 20:40

And welcome back, birdies! how did day one of weaning go?

glorious · 24/06/2013 21:16

Oh blast! Sorry birdies ! bedtime.

happyhow · 24/06/2013 21:30

Going back to work is over rated. Currently having a LARGE glass of wine to make myself feel better.... Bunch of cocksuckers. Sorry.

Weaning going well here. B happily took apple and pear from me this morning before I went to work and was looking for more than he was given at lunch time from my mum! Will leave more for him tomo.

Going to bed soon. Sleep and wine makes everything better, no?

Glad you had a good hol Birdies!

And glad you enjoyed the party Apples! I'm with you on the social anxiety. Would love another round of CBT as I think sleep deprivation has undone all the good work of the last round.

Mad night last night. Has anyone encountered issues with interference on the Angelcare monitor? It's bad enough being up five times with baby without being woken another three times by mad radio static Angry

We did have a lie in from 6-9 which was great but his routine has been all over the place today and there have been tears for us both. He is cuteness itself tho its incredible how far he has 'leaped' - rolling all over the place like a loony, trying to grab things, trying desperately to crawl (and screaming because he can't yet), swallowing seemingly huge amounts of food.

glorious · 25/06/2013 04:18

Oh happy what happened? Sorry it was tough.

meringue that does sound a lot of progress.

Up hourly here tonight Sad

Lostbobbles · 25/06/2013 06:10

Glorious I feel your pain, don't know what she thinks she's playing at Hmm

glorious · 25/06/2013 06:18

Oh dear lost . Not fun is it. Just managed 1.5 so that's good... Confused

happyhow · 25/06/2013 14:52

I had requested to return to work 4 days a week and found out that I was only being given 3 days and that my timetable was spread over 4 days in such a way that I'd need to pay for 4 full days childcare - I've got to be in work before the afternoon nursery session starts.
Also, my head of dept told me that a parent had complained about my teaching but she didn't give me anymore info so I stewed over it all day and night. Went to the head teacher this morning and it was absolutely nothing! The head wasn't worried in the slightest about it. I'm really pissed off with my head of dept for leading me to believe that it was something big and serious. She's just back from maternity leave too so I'm surprised at her doing that. She implied that I was getting less hours because of this letter and that's totally not the case - there's just not the available timetable. I'm going to watch myself around her now. Don't have much trust or respect for her after that stunt.
Bailey has also chosen this week to piss about with his sleep so I'm walking around with matchsticks in my eyes and having Starbucks!

On a positive, I've just had a lovely bit of carrot cake! Smile

I don't really want to think about work; I gave the impression I wanted to take 9 months but now I'm thinking January sounds much better Grin

Finally potty trained DS a few weeks back so that's a lot less nappies to buy. I left it till he was almost 3 years old so it was actually a lot easier than I imagined. By the way, I just bought a box of 'Cheeky Bots' nappies from Tesco, £15 for 168 and so far they seem fine and I'll be getting them again.

S was 5 months yesterday and her 3rd tooth is about to break through! I think she's ready for some food; but I'm not Grin. It's her christening this weekend so hoping for some reasonable weather as we're having a BBQ.

I think S must be the only baby in the world to not be overly fussed by her jumperoo; or will she grow to love it?! She seems to prefer her play gym. No rolling or sitting here yet.

Anyone else thinking about having another?!

AppleCrumples · 25/06/2013 17:29

happy she sounds like a cow! Can't believe people treat eachother like that. Glaf it turned out to be nothing though :)

cejay nope, no way, not ever! There will definitely be no more babies here. Shop is shut! Ivy is busting to get moving and loves her food. Even stole ds1 scone last night and made a right mess :) In fairness though she is 6 months next week. They all do everything at different times.

oh and wow at 3 teeth already! We only have 2 here :)

BuntyCollocks · 25/06/2013 17:53

I'm with apples cejay, and I only have 2! In fairness, DS is testing every boundary known to man ATM, and until he started this naughtiness I was trying to persuade DH to dc3, but I am very happy with the two cuties I have.

We have no teeth! She would quite like some. She would also quite like to walk/crawl. DS was quick. She is ridiculously so.

BuntyCollocks · 25/06/2013 17:56

Oh, can also vouch for cheeky bots - definitely do the job!

Pascha · 25/06/2013 18:08

No teeth here either, all the dribbling and pain has settled for now so it may be some time. No more babies for me. No way. No how.

I want to potty train ds1, he's 2.9 now, but so far he will not consider weeing in either the potty or the loo. I guess I will have to keep on suggesting til he is ok with the idea. If not, maybe preschool can help in a few months.

Happy that sounds rubbish. Old bag.

I'm hot and sticky with a squirming grump on my lap pissing about on the boob. I want cake Envy

Welcome back Birdies Smile

lollipoppi · 25/06/2013 19:14

Darcie is in bed. Cole is in bed. DP has buggered off to the kings of Leon (not jealous at all!) wine, mumsnet, cake, and bath, in that order!!

Happy, what a cowbag! Glad it turned out to be nothing serious!

Bunty, so funny about how your DDs weaning! Great that she has taken to it so well

Lost and glorious I hope you both have better nights tonight

Cejay, no fecking way!!! although ask me again in a few years time
Are you? Soon? Are you mad (wink)

No teeth here but lots of dribbling and bottle refusing so may be on route!

lollipoppi · 25/06/2013 19:15

... Wink face fail!

Tugstonia · 25/06/2013 20:15

Evening all

Hope everyone's doing well.
Happy what a horrible cow your colleague is. And how annoying about the part-time hours.
Welcome back birdies and allchik
Bunty I've done exactly the same re losing it with DC... Sleep deprivation really does mess with the head! Glad that your DD is doing so well with weaning.
My DD is not quite 5 months but have started her on a bit of carrot and baby rice. She is a big girl (98th centile for height and weight) and is demanding more and more milk, esp at night, and I just can't seem to satisfy her. Am going v slowly because she is still relatively young. Saw HV today who told me off for giving her baby rice - said she was too young and her kidneys wouldn't be able to handle it. Anyone else heard this?? I am sceptical it has to be said... have read a lot on weaning and have never heard mention of kidneys struggling with baby rice... Anyway HV then said if I needed to top up to use formula until 6 months so that she'd be "exclusively milk fed" whatever the fuck that means. I'm going to carry on with bits and bobs of fruit and veg for now I think.
cejay I really can't imagine having another one and yet find myself thinking of baby names to go with my DD's Grin My mum and various other people keep asking me when I'll think about having number 2... Hmm

Birdies · 25/06/2013 20:30

tugs I'm pretty sure that's a load of crap. And as far as I'm aware, the advice is now to wean between 4 and 6 months depending on signs such as baby watching you eat, being able to support their head well etc etc. it's frightening the rubbish that some HVs spout out.

No teeth here either and the dribbling has also settled down. I think DD1 had 3 by this stage so I was expecting them early again. Not complaining though!

X has rolled all the way over just the once and she's 6 months tomorrow. Should I be trying to get her to roll more, and anyone know how?!!

I put her to bed at 7pm last night and she slept 11 hours (2 more than normal). So it does seem to be true that earlier to bed means a longer sleep. Still feeding every couple of hours though but I think that's my fault for just feeding whenever she stirs.

cejay yes, I wouldn't mind a third! But with an 18 month gap between my two i think I'll leave it a while longer this time. What's the gap between yours?

meringue I haven't heard about that before but sounds like a right pain.

Lostbobbles · 25/06/2013 21:10

Tugs - not heard that one. In my DD1 class, four of the Parents are Dr's and they have all mentioned about weaning since DD2 turned 4 months! So confusing annoying that you can never get one general consensus.

Defo never having another baby couldn't deal with the logistics of three and DH would do a runner.

AppleCrumples · 25/06/2013 21:23

tugs some hvs seem to delight in scaring new mums and making them doubt themselves! I would keep doing what feels right to you. IME your dd will let you know if shes ready or not. I tried with Ivy at 5'months but she just stuck her tongue out and it wasn't worth pushing it, now she is grabbing everything and gets truly excited when the spoon comes her way and today even cried when she finished her apple! Trying reddy brek tomorrow :)

birdies i wouldn't worry! I seem to remember 1 of mine only rolled a couple of times before learning to crawl some are too eager to get to the next stage. Yay n the sleeping :)

Dd1 sports day tomorrow. Then ds1 on thurs. I wanr to support them but its such a lot of hanging around and have to confes was very relieved when most were cancelled last year with all the rain :) only went the nursery one which was a nightmare as i felt so awful and sick.

glorious · 25/06/2013 21:35

happy that's horrible and so unnecessarily stressful. How annoying about your hours too.

The nhs weaning advice is here www.nhs.uk/Conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/Pages/solid-foods-weaning.aspx#close . It says 'around 6 months' and lists three signs of readiness. But babies learn so many other things at different stages that I agree it's an individual decision and should be based on them Smile .

glorious · 25/06/2013 21:37

And p.s. tugs total rubbish about the kidneys imo unless you're making the baby rice with soy sauce Wink

Cejay8 · 25/06/2013 21:41

There's 2.5 years between my two. After DS was born I couldn't imagine ever having another - I didn't want to go through labour, sleepless nights, teething, moaning, etc! But I think we knew we wanted two children so here we are. This time around I've enjoyed it all a lot more; it's tough having two but mostly S is such a pleasure that I find myself thinking about a 3rdGrin Practically I know it makes no sense blah blah but I also find myself thinking about names! DH is having none of it though.

I started weaning at 4.5 months with DS but am thinking 5.5 with DD; she's starting to show an interest so better try to remember what I did before - seems such a long time ago now.

Pascha, re potty training DS wasn't interested but I just bought lots of cheap big boy pants and let him have a few accidents in those till he realised he had some control. We did a reward chart too.

S still has bad cradle cap.... Anyone found anything that helps?

AppleCrumples · 25/06/2013 21:46

Cejay olive oil can help although i am quite lazy and just leave it til it gies away or they grow hair

CreepyCrawly · 25/06/2013 22:06

No teeth here, plenty of drooling though.

We haven't started weaning either. She has started taking an interest when we eat, but she also takes an interest when we're on the phone etc too Grin. I'm going to clinic on Thursday (went last week but I was a week early - they seem to think every 4th Thursday actually means the last Thursday of the month Hmm) to get Nancy weighed so will have a chat with the HV then. Hopefully she won't spout some of the crap others seem to! Shocking!

What a pain happy. And what a cow!

lolli I love the name Cole

I hope sports day goes well apple

Had a good day here, the best one in a while. I've been feeling quite low the last few keeps and actually feeling like I'd hit rock bottom for the last week and hasn't gone out. Went with a friend today to her friends house, and we got on really well. She has a little 2 year old DD and goes to a lot of groups in the area so I'm meeting her Thursday morning and we're going to Rhyme Time :)

Day 2 of the 30 day shred today. Ouch!
