Thought I'd take the liberty of starting a new thread since the last one filled. So mark your places, get comfy and prepare for a few sleepless nights!

In particular we think of Empress and little Sam - hoping and praying he's coming home! :)

Bunny - am so jealous. Can't believe 12 hours straight!!

I could weep right now. Last night DS did 6.30-3am with a dream feed at 10 before I went to bed then straight through to 7. Tonight we did the same drill except he took longer to go down and started moaning and groaning (I say that because he doesn't wake fully and cry, just lies there apparently asleep making noises in his sleep) around 1.30! I eventually got him up to feed after an hour.

He is nearly 10 weeks old and although he's ebf, I thought this would be improving by now. We've been working really hard to ensure he doesn't sleep too much in the day but is also napping enough and that he is eating well in the day from 7-7.

Am becoming despondent and am so tired. Hmm

bunnygirl80 · 28/05/2013 03:12

bona my DS woke every 90 mins for the first 5 months of his life, and didnt sleep through till 9 months. I think I deserve a good sleeper this time Grin Your DS is actually doing really really well for a 10 week old, but it is hard work when you're the food source and end up doing every night waking. Could you get DH to do a couple of nights for you, either ebm or formula in a bottle, so you can get a full night's sleep.

enjay0811 · 28/05/2013 03:24

Spoke to bloody soon with the sleep last night. Baby enjay fed at 2pm,5,7.30,9.30,11.30 and now at 2.45. What's going on, we're goin backwards!! Confused I was hoping for another 4 hour stretch tonight but F has other ideas. Think she woke herself doing an almighty poo! Ah well, candy crush it is...

Thanks for the link on gripe water faith I was confused when the mw said 3 mths but the bottle said 1!

BonaDea · 28/05/2013 03:38

Bunny. - you definitely deserve it! Just hoped to be in the same gang. LO takes a bottle but we're still working on him seeing it as a substitute for me instead of a bit extra! He'll happily drink a bottle of ebm but then still look to finish off at the breast. Think we need to work on that and I need to make more time for pumping!

Sorry for the me me me. I guess I didn't know how sleep-reliant I actually am as a person. Didn't think it would get to me so much!

Enjay - bummer. Glad it's not just me who feels like they are going backwards (sorry!). Hope we both get some more sleep now.

LikeCandy · 28/05/2013 05:08

Eurgh I am wide awake. Accidentally fed twice in a row off my left boob so had to get up and express before my right exploded!!

bona I have no expectations of 12hrs sleep any time soon. The longest she's ever gone is around 5hrs, usually it's more like 3-4! Though saying that she is very good at going back to sleep after a night feed - so it doesn't feel like too much of a bother (until she screams when I change her nappy when she's half asleep!)

itsaruddygame · 28/05/2013 06:19

Bona - I feel your pain!!! I would do almost anything for a nights sleep. The most I am getting is 2 hours and last night he fed very hour. I am exhausted now and he is asleep on my chest but everytime I put him down he wakes up - aaargh!

One day we will sleep again!

BonaDea · 28/05/2013 06:25

Candy - a couple of 4 hour stretches would do me find but constant noise from 1.30am I can't deal with at all. Feel totally dazed and confused this morning!!

wishfulthinking1 · 28/05/2013 06:31

bona

  • just posting to say you're not alone! P feeds every /2 hours, sometimes stretched to 2 and 1/2 hours at night. He goes straight back down at night, but it still means I've not slept for a more than 2 hours in a row for 5 weeks!

I can't see that the elusive 12 hours could ever be possible! There's no point me trying to stretch his feeds out- he's a hungry baby- I figure it'll happen by itself in time' fingers crossed

HadALittleFaithBaby · 28/05/2013 06:43

I was amazed/delighted, Faithlet slept from 9.39-2.30 last night. I know what people mean about very hungry babies though - she had 4oz from a bottle and fed for 1.5 hours afterwards! I reckon she sleeps less during growth spurts too.

I find she settles on transfer better if I warm a too I've worn and put it in first. She will go back down after her 2ish feed but tends to stay in with me after her 5am feed.

I'm just expressing from the right which she hasn't fed from since 2 and I'm getting loads off!

Enjay... Gripe water hasn't contained alcohol for at least 20 years! My Gran was most disappointed as she gave it to us as kids.

Fennel tea is known for calming the stomach. Gripe water is very similar as it contains fennel oil.

When I had bad reflux with the stress of my wedding, someone recommended gripe water and it helped me and DH.

Though most professionals see it as more of a placebo. They stick it in the alternative therapies/homeopathy group and assume it doesn't do anything.

birdbrain21 · 28/05/2013 11:02

bunny how old is your lo?
Last night baby bird wouldn't wake for her dream feed at 11 so went from 8pm till 6:30am without a feed. She did stir a few times in the night but settled with her dummy which she won't do if she's hungry. Hope she doesn't want to feed all day to make up for it I've got a few things to do....

Teapig · 28/05/2013 13:56

Just marking my spot on our lovely new thread, I can't believe we're on our second already. I will now try to catch up on everyone's news, I hope everyone is doing well x

ElliesWellies · 28/05/2013 14:39

Sleep reasonable here, with DD we usually get six hours+ (eight on a good night) straight around 11-5 and then a feed and a bit more. DS is two-and-a-half and has never slept twelve hours straight I don't think! But he does now do about nine hours. Like bunnygirl I did my time with a very patchy sleeper the first time, and hoping for a better sleeper this time - so far so good.

I can cope with night waking itself - it's when they don't settle back down for ages that I find it a real problem!

Kittenmummy · 28/05/2013 15:17

Been reading about everyone's sleeping patterns, those of you who are getting 6+ hours solid how old are your LOs? Baby kitten is five weeks and still not close to that...

photochick · 28/05/2013 15:23

We have just emerged from two days of having a very restless baby and no sleep. Much more settled last night and we even managed a 5 hour stretch! Think part of the problem was wind and we are giving infacol which seems to help.

My tear seems to be healing but now I'm off the painkillers it's still sore if I walk too far or do too much. Won't be dtd till after my 6 week check or my appointment with the pelvic floor specialist. We haven't dtd since 16weeks! Mind you we are so tired we are barely talking let alone any thing else!

Last night I was so tired I tried 3 times to make a bottle but each time lost count of the scoops and had to start again Confused.

usernamegoeshere · 28/05/2013 15:37

photo glad infacol has helped you, we gave up on it and plan to try gripe water instead.

Yesterday I continued with the feeding hell and fed for an hour every 2 hours, with a shed load of thrashing, tears & farting! But after changing feeding position I saw an improvement, seemed to stay on boob longer and has been sleeping again. Maybe was a growth spurt, I expressed this morning and got nearly 7oz from one boob instead of my usual 4oz from both!

Glad to see more people are getting longer between night feeds, hopefully won't be long and 5 hrs + will be the norm.

wishful hope you feel better today

Where is jh?

Trishstar · 28/05/2013 16:32

Yeah where is Vic? Hope she's ok x

EmpressMatilda · 28/05/2013 17:26

Hello everyone -so glad I found the thread! Sam did come home on Friday so we had the sunny Bank Holiday weekend with him which was lovely. Today is my first day at home alone with him and it's going well so far though I have plenty of concerns and questions. First I am going to read through the thread to get up to date on everything (quick -before he wakes up!) then I'll write a longer post!

HadALittleFaithBaby · 28/05/2013 17:27

No posts from her in the last week on MN hope you're ok jacq.

Well we've been to the GP for her check up. All good - spotty face is normal. Just glands settling down. Asked him about mixed feeding and he was very vague! I asked if it would make her more settled and he said Not necessarily! He did think she's got reflux so we've got a prescription for infant gaviscon. I think I'm going to ask DH to give it time to work before we consider offering formula. I think she's been feeding to try to settle her stomach at times. I've also cut my caffiene intake down as I read that can help. I just don't think she needs formula at this point.

empress fantastic news!

birdbrain dd is just over 9 weeks. Great that yours did 8-6 too. Lets just hope it continues

ellies it sounds like our children could be twins Grin DS considers 6am a lie in, dd has been a fab sleeper so far. Although it would be lovely if DS would follow her example and stay in bed till 7:30.

usernamegoeshere · 28/05/2013 18:09

empress that's great news, so happy for you.

EmpressMatilda · 28/05/2013 19:08

Been having a read through. I have to admit I don't do too badly on the nighttime routine because I'm not breastfeeding. AT the hospital they had a 3 hourly feed system. We not sticking to it strictly now we're at home but he seems to be going by it anyway. I give him his meds and a feed at around midnight and know I'll have to wake at about 3.30am and again around 7 but other than that it's OK. I do envy you your breastfeeding though. I am still feeling that Sam and I haven't properly bonded and I think the breastfeeding would have really helped with that.

That said, he is so grouchy in the daytime that makes up for it. I am actually starting to wonder whether he's teething. Can they start teething as early as six weeks old?! He gets particularly grouchy after a feed or medicines and he shoves his fist in his mouth and slobbers a lot. Any thoughts?

Sam can smile, I have seen it a couple of times. But he hasn't smiled at me yet Sad. I guess it will come. We just have to get to know one another properly.

Good luck to all you sleep deprived ladies. I will keep up with the thread more in future I hope!

wishfulthinking1 · 28/05/2013 19:09

Fab news empress! So happy for you!!

faith - what reflux symptoms did your little one have?

Poor me update: it was going to happen eventually, have had 'got to go very quickly' poo urges since birth but today I didn't get to the loo in time Blush Spoke to dr about urges just week and she said to give it a week of two, but made an emergency apponintment today after the accident. Dr was really good- have now got appointment for blood tests, another poo sample grim plus referrals to obstetric specialist and colon specialist. Had a sob to hubby earlier on- i don't want to be someone who shits themself! - but we WILL get this sorted!

Think P is having a growth spurt- has been feeding for the last 3 hours almost constantly! My nipples are like rubber- but am sure all the feeding will help with the mastitis!!
X
