Thought I'd take the liberty of starting a new thread since the last one filled. So mark your places, get comfy and prepare for a few sleepless nights!

In particular we think of Empress and little Sam - hoping and praying he's coming home! :)

mama and empress It's amazing how well your little boys are doing, I think the least of your worries though is keeping up with this thread!!! It's just good to hear from you when you can...

tweet welcome it's never too late to join. We also have a facebook group if you want. I'm not on facebook but sure someone can link it to you

birdbrain21 · 03/06/2013 19:35

I'm glad someone raised the topic of poo (it looks so funny to read that sentence back Wink). Baby bird has been doing about 5 or 6 dirty&wet nappies a day since a few days old when my milk came in, but since a massively dirty one on friday they've all been only wet not dirty (still about 5 or 6) I was starting to worry a bit last night but it's good to hear it's normal to not do any poos for a few days. She seems same as normal but I guess as tomorrow is my most local hv clinic maybe I'll just pop in to be on the safe side, then again depends which hv is doing the clinic, as I'm sure you all know from experience not all hv are that great Hmm...

usernamegoeshere · 03/06/2013 19:40

Talking of poo... Baby user just did first of 3 days. It was everywhere. Used a million wipes, should have just hosed her off!.

Welcome tweet

Thank you, it's good to join Grin. My little one has been keeping me up all night since she was born. The night we came home from the hospital she didn't sleep at all, that's not an exaggeration I promise!

She tends to be up 5-6 times a night and often will only sleep on me. During the day I have to have her in a baby carrier to sleep and this has recently become harder as I must also stand up or she screams. I had to give it a break today as my back is very sore and she only slept for about 2hrs for the whole day!

She's asleep next to me just now, great to have a break but I am sure it won't be long lasting Smile. I'm afraid to go to the loo in case I wake her.
She also has been having a whale of a time with poos. Record so far has been 12 in one day. I had to go to the bank today and during meeting she did 4 very loud, wet sounding farts. I must be sleep deprived because I just changed her nappy in office at bank. Wasn't until my DH came home and pointed out that it wasn't perhaps the most professional thing to do that I realised probably should have done elsewhere! Oh well, desperate times, desperate measures and all of that!

Welcome Tweet! Never too late to join xx

HadALittleFaithBaby · 03/06/2013 21:07

Hi tweet! Never too late. I imagine this thread will be running for quite some time! There's a link to the old thread, statistics thread and Facebook group on the first page

Sounds tough with the sleeping situation! Have you got someone that will hold her for a bit so you can nap? We had similar to start with my DD (aka Faithlet) but she's gradually improved. She generally sleeps ok at night but rarely sleeps in the day unless its on me or in the car. She'll be sound asleep until I lie her down! Or if she's fallen asleep when I go out she wakes as soon as I arrive home! She's not bad at night though. I love the nappy change story! Grin

Well second night settled at 8.30! Went first transfer too. I've worked out she settles quicker if I am still don't use my phone and if I put a blanket over her. It's so nice to be snatching back a bit of my evenings!

Empress it's just lovely to hear from you and hear Sam's progress! Sounds like he's growing well!

Mama I admire you so much :) glad Alex is thriving.

bird I'd mention it bit wouldn't worry too much, 6 days was Faithlet's record but now she's going daily!

I imagine it must be crazy for both of you. The first week we had Faithlet we waited for things to go wrong, what with all the meds I'd been taking. That was bad enough but after what you've both been through I imagine each day must seem like a miracle! I hope as time goes by you're able to trust the good feelings.

Good to see what everyone has been up to and especially good to get updates from mama and empress. Both boys seem to be real fighters and every step is going in the right direction.

We went to our first baby massage class today - they are limited to a maximum of 5 babies and all of them were so chilled today. Evan didn't complain about lying on his back at all and just smiled the whole time - although he was mostly looking at a little girl lying next to him Smile

Poo continues to be a daily challenge here - Evan is a silent poo-er so we suddenly get a whiff (if we are lucky!) and can then change him. If we don;t notice he has done a poo, then he will only start crying once he has squished it up his back and through his clothes. I tend to put him in a disposable nappy each morning until he has done his daily poo but then he caught me out by doing a second one today... I got them both before he had to be hosed down though. When that happens, I dunk him in the bathroom sink Smile

Right now Evan is asleep in his moses basket with me in the living room. He had a bottle at about 7.30pm so he will be telling me soon that he is ready for the next one and then I will take him upstairs. DP is already fast asleep upstairs after putting DDs to bed. Our evenings are still like we are working shifts as Evan is still feeding every 3 hours. He has been taking 4oz feeds today and pretty much finishing them so hopefully he will start to sleep longer.

And we have an appointment for his second set of immunisations on Wednesday. I am hoping that he will cope with them as well as he did the first set.

AmberLav · 04/06/2013 05:25

Wow, E lasted till 5.10am this morning, after falling of to sleep at 11pm! Seems to happen after a day of constant feeding, so at least there is an occasional upside to a day of a constantly grizzly child!

I'm very jealous of the ladies who are getting their evenings back! E feeds constantly from 7.30 to 9.30pm, although I can normally pop her on her playmat for about 10 minutes of freedom after a nappy change! Tonight I have a street party meeting at 8pm, which was organised about 2 months ago, and I'm going to have to feed her throughout! Such fun!

Welcome tweet! I run on the theory that any flat space is appropriate for nappy changes! DS had his bottom exposed to lots of random places!

bext · 04/06/2013 06:40

Empress and Mama so lovely to get the updates on Alex and Sam, they are both doing so well Smile

Does anyone have any advice on nighttime snuffles? DS is fine during the day but at night gets steadily more blocked up until its like having a warthog in bed next to us. He is in a Moses basket on his back, the room is 18-20 degrees and we've had the window open slightly for fresh air. It gets so bad he really sounds like he's struggling to breathe and it wakes him and us up between feeds (and as he's only going 3 hours between them at best, then it's killing me when he wakes after only an hour). Anyone else had similar and any advice? Thanks.

Trishstar · 04/06/2013 08:48

H went from 8pm til 3pm so it's shifted all his feeds again so tonight I'm gonna try feeding at 11pm and see how we go! 11-6 would be ace! He seems to be back to himself today , he was smiling again last night so hopefully he's over the worst of his injections x

ratbagcatbag · 04/06/2013 09:32

Bext - get a humidifier. Had exactly the same problem and its pretty much gone away. I got the Vicks cool mist one for £50. :)

ratbagcatbag · 04/06/2013 09:34

Lucy used to be sniffly within one hour of going down, it's now more like ten hours before she gets as bad (she doesn't sleep all that time but its defo made her go longer)

bext · 04/06/2013 11:59

Thanks ratbag, I will definitely try that. x

HadALittleFaithBaby · 04/06/2013 12:05

Blimey, after an 8.30 settle down Faithlet didn't wake til 3.30 Shock, fed for 30 minutes then slept again til 6.30! Grumpy chops wouldn't settle today though so I nipped out in the car: asleep by the end of the road!

Trish glad to hear he's feeling better :)

LikeCandy · 04/06/2013 14:22

Welcome tweet, and good to hear from you both empress and mama!

Wow, lots of sleepy babies last night then!
BabyCandy dropped her 1:30 feed a few nights ago. She's sleeping from 8/9-11 on one of us in the lounge, feed, change and into bed at 11, then wakes 3:30, 5:30, 7:30 (ish)

Making a huge effort to 'do more' when she's awake and alert seems to mean she naps very regularly during the day. An hours play (at the most) seems to need 2 hours recovery!
I sing songs to her (badly!), we lie on the floor and look at toys, use the baby gym and I just got the toy bar for her bouncy chair and she seems to like that. She still doesn't show any interest in books and wont listen to stories!
What activities are you guys doing?

Trishstar · 04/06/2013 16:32

31 hours with no poo then we get a pooey nappy full to his belly button!! XxShock

LikeCandy · 04/06/2013 17:02

trish I read things like that and feel sorry for yummys washing machine when baby yummy finally 'produces'!!
(Any action yet Yummy?!)

MyLittleAprilSunshine · 04/06/2013 18:13

Faith It's been the opposite for Little H, up until 2 weeks she pooed 2-4 times a day. Now it seems to be every other day which made us worried at first. She does strain an awful lot and hate seeing her uncomfortable though so she gets some cooled boiled water on the second day to help her pass the poo. It comes out fairly soft though, she just seems to find it really uncomfortable!

Hollie wees all the time so we don't have a worry with that - it's after every feed. Her wind is a lot better and although she brings it up/down, now she takes Colief it seems a lot less sore which I think may mean she has some form of lactose intolerance, so will mention to the doctor.

Her check-up is scheduled for this Friday--day before she turns 9 weeks. Immunisations are on same day, as long as she's feeling well enough (has a cold).

I am dreading the immunisations, as can't bare to see her upset. The heel prick test was bad enough :(

toobreathless · 04/06/2013 18:31

We also had a good night :) with C sleeping from 10pm till 6am :) wasn't going to mention it but as everyone else seems to have had a good night thought I would!

C is an infrequent pooer, every 7-10 days (I think) she has such teeny skinny legs she often fills the feet of the babygrows when she does go! Doesn't really bother me, DD1 was exactly the same until we started weaning.

We have been to the beach today & C was a little star! Not minding the wind/getting covered in sand. She is a very chilled little thing. DH is on leave this week so we are doing day trips rather than a holiday as such. Monday we went to the dentist, after weeks of reading 'Topsy and Tim go to the dentist' and practising lying down and opening our mouths H (just 2) climbed excitedly into the dentists chair, he said 'open your mouth' and she said NO! Hmm and that was it! Still got a sticker mind, how bad do you have to be exactly before they don't give you one? Grin

toobreathless · 04/06/2013 18:41

likecandy in terms of activities we just sit together and chat/cuddle, read black and white books/board books, baby gym (she lasts about 2 minutes before she screams) & also lie on a blanket on the floor and put toys around her to look at. Because I have DD1 we are often out and about though and do a toddler sensory class weekly which at present C just sleeps through, hoping she will start to enjoy that in a few months. Stuff you are doing sounds great, lucky babycandy.

I cannot recommend these enough: 4 little books for them to look at with increasingly complex patterns/faces. My girls have both LOVED them. We don't really have big toys and we don't watch TV or have it on when the girls are in the room but these are amazing! They also are great for changing bag because they are about the size of a Mr Men book.

HadALittleFaithBaby · 04/06/2013 18:54

too that's funny about the dentist! Nothing as quirky as kids eh? The beach sounds fun!

When Faithlet is awake we do much the same - she loves the baby gym, will stay under there for up to 15 minutes and the bouncy chair. Sometimes I just pop her in the sling and talk to her and sing a lot!

I've started to pick up when she's fussy because she's tired. This morning she was so we went out in the car and she fell asleep by the end of our road! Out for over an hour and usually she wakes when we get home but she didn't so I put her in the car seat by the washing machine. I think she likes white noise - she's fallen asleep to the Hoover and settles when I dry my hair! :)

NC was MyLittleAprilSunshine :)

Hollie is really long and has the longest of legs which is strange as her Daddy is fairly tall, but not THAT tall and I am a shorty so no idea how she got so long. She has to wear 3-6 months already due to the legs bless her. :)

SneezySnatcher · 04/06/2013 19:18

We've been to the beach today too! DD had a great time chasing the waves and throwing pebbles into the water. H watched her from the sling with a face like Hmm

He seems to be settling into a bit more of a routine during the day. He has a nap about an hour after he wakes, a long nap at midday and then another late afternoon. It's very noticable if he's due a nap as he becomes disengaged and a bit whiny whereas usually he's very chilled.

Nighttime is still going well for us. He's bathed, fed and asleep by 7 or so every night, which means DH and I have our evenings together. He's really the complete opposite of DD, who would take hours to settle. Still waking a couple of times between 7 and 7, but he's usually fed, changed and back down in 20 minutes, so it's no hardship really.

Talking of poo (lovely!) yesterday he did a huge one. I was changing him and thought a tiny drop had leaked onto his vest. I took off his babygrow and, to my horror, I realised it had gone all the way up to his neck and into his hair! I had to carry him face down across my arms like he was flying (with DD following shouting 'yuck') so I didn't get covered and lie him on his front on the changing mat. I then pulled the vest down his body and threw it away. I had to get DD to fetch a wet flannel so I could wipe him down before popping him in the bath - nightmare!! Grin

Tweet2tweet · 04/06/2013 20:15

Am jealous of all the good sleepers! Last night was best so far though, down at 8, up at 10.30, 12, 3, 5 and then we were all up at 6.15. I hope that tonight is okay as I'm shattered.

Does anyone else still have quite an obvious belly? I'm anxious that I may have diastasis recti. I have an appointment with the physio on Mon but just wondered what's 'normal' at this point. I still look like I'm 3 months pregnant Hmm

LikeCandy · 04/06/2013 21:46

too I have that on my Amazon wish list! I have the two items that it says 'frequently bought with' (amazing baby black & white book and the black & white Lamaze panda rattle!) will try and persuade DH to order it!
