Our first post natal thread!

Cooking & Cleaning can wait till tomorrow
for children grow up we've learnt to our sorrow
So wipe away cobwebs and dust go to sleep
I'm cuddling my baby cause babies don't keep!

A thread to celebrate the highs of life with a gorgeous newborn and the lows of sleepless nights, stitches, feeding traumas & Baby blues.

OP posts:

Thanks Bunny. I have an Avent manual pump too which is very comfortable so maybe I'll go back to that even if it is a bit slower.

Trishstar · 06/05/2013 20:52

Can you remember which make tho Mama as I'm going to hire a hospital grade one xx

HadALittleFaithBaby · 06/05/2013 20:54

lutrinae I'm no expert but it sounds like he may have what the hid

HadALittleFaithBaby · 06/05/2013 20:58

Ooops...

Hospital described as 'nipple aversion'. A nipple shield may help with latching but I agree with the above comment (on phone / was it bona?) I'd get some advice from la leche league or a bf group about it.

Well my little boob monster fed for about 4 hours non-stop! She's settle for a couple of minutes then be screaming/rooting again! (mostly while we were in a pub beer garden). She finally settled when my sister took her and got loads of wind up/down. Just trying to get her settled into her Moses basket now we're home....

Mama1980 · 06/05/2013 21:05

Hello everyone and congratulations on all your lovely babies! I was on this antenatal thread last yr but couldn't keep up so I fell by the wayside! Loving the names, enjoy I lived next door to a Fleur as a child, are you welsh?
We had little Eden on April 20th and she's not doing too badly tho kept losing weight so we've had to top up her bf with ebm or formula. Latch was bad at first so been sore like some others here but I think we're emerging into better feeding!

I use manual event pump which I find really effective, but I guess everyone's different, it's more gentle than an electric pump.

I actually came on Mon to try to find out what clothes she should be in in this warmer weather! I have all these footless outfits and today I left her feet out then worried that's not warm enough. Are you all basically keeping your tiddlers n sleep suits still or what? I did with ds1 but feeling more adventurous this time!

Will try for read back over the whole thread at the next feed!

LoobyLou33 · 07/05/2013 02:58

Oops silly autocorrect it should say "came onto MN" ;-)

Trishstar · 07/05/2013 04:29

Looby congrats on little Eden xxx good to have you back xxx

HadALittleFaithBaby · 07/05/2013 04:46

Yes welcome to the post-natal club looby, nice to see you! Love the name! I'm not sure about clothing either. Generally I keep her in sleep suits with feet but I have put her in outfits/dresses with socks. Trouble is she's so small the smallest socks are knee high and tend to fall off! :)

trish you up doing a 4.30am feed too?! Actually I'm well chuffed - after the cluster feed Faithlrt went down at 10 and slept til 1.30! Fed for 30 mins then slept til 4.15. Lots of sleep for me! :)

ElliesWellies · 07/05/2013 05:49

Took the DC to Kew Gardens yesterday, gorgeous day! They both behaved so well, thankfully.

I am pleased to report that DD has just woken up after six hours of sleep, first time ever. Must have been all that lovely fresh air!

lutrinae You have my sympathies, DD is behaving similarly sometimes. Think it may be a bit of reflux, have you looked up the symptoms? She has always been sicky and windy though.

ElliesWellies · 07/05/2013 05:50

loobylou Congratulations and love the name Eden!

usernamegoeshere · 07/05/2013 05:56

lutrinae that sounds like a nightmare, you poor thing.

Trishstar · 07/05/2013 07:58

Faith yes!!! He fed at 10.30pm slept til 4, then fed at 4am and us still asleep now! That was his best night and the most sleep I've had!!! Xx

usernamegoeshere · 07/05/2013 08:49

I'm having trouble with clothing, it's a bit chilly still here so been using vest, baby grow and blanket but I'm having trouble with baby grow sizes. Next newborn is too short on legs (up to 7lbs 8) mothercare is too long (up to 10lbs and 56cm long) the first mothercare pack 2 of the 3 fit, bought 2 more packs same size and all seem massive... She is 9lbs and was 55cm when born.

Hoping for weather to improve so I can swap to dresses and booties!

SneezySnatcher · 07/05/2013 10:54

Blimey! Had the boy weighed this morning when the HV came and he's now 11lb 14oz at 23 days old. That's a gain of 2lb 10oz since birth.

I'm pleased as I was worried he wasn't getting enough hind milk as his poos have been quite green (although improving with block feeding).

Poor DD has a cold though and it looks like Henry is getting bunged up too. It's so hard when they are tiny and there's not much you can do. DD has been dosed up and we've watched Aladdin.

Hope you are all out enjoying the sunshine. Our garden is out of bounds as we are having our roof replaced and DD is off to pre-school today so don't have time to go out after HV. Please let it be nice tomorrow!

LikeCandy · 07/05/2013 11:18

user we're having the same issues with clothing sizes! She's 6 weeks now, outgrew next newborn sleep suits at 4 weeks, Boots newborn still fit (just)?and we bought M&S 'up to 1m' sleepsuits to tide us over until the 0-3m starts to fit they're WAY too long at the moment!
She's not small (was 50% at last weigh in) but some brands, especially M&S are coming up huge on her.

birdbrain17 · 07/05/2013 15:30

baby bird is 3 weeks old today and has gone through 5 packets of nappies (small packs not economy size)! I thought they would last longer then that...what makes of nappies have people been buying, I had some huggies that we bought ages ago but now you can't get them here any more and I find the pampers need changing more often so they don't leak Hmm

user and likecandy I have sainsburys up to 1 month sleep suits which fit quite well at 3 weeks (she was 7lb 80z at last weigh in 1 week ago)

KelleStar · 07/05/2013 19:41

Birdbrain we are fans of aldi nappies, a good fit, soft and not really whiffy. Plus they are really good value. I only found them after a product test here on MN. I use them for DD from size 1 and have some for DS too.

I am so happy to have a buggy again! Have finally managed to replace my much loved stolen maclaren techno xt, with another second hand one as we prefer the older model. It's only a few inches smaller, but means I can get it in the boot of my new car. It's so light and easy to get in and ou the boot. DD even hugged it, she missed it so much :)

I've got to go bra shopping soon, the M&S bras have stretched across the band and the cups are tiny. The Elomi soft wire is great but very high on my chest and a bit sweaty for summer use. I am wearing an old sloggi bra which is very comfy but not supportive. I think I'm about a 34J but possibly bigger :/

I survived my first day of DH going back to work! DD was a little challenging but fine... Until DH came home then she played up with me. Ah well, toddler group tomorrow, we have a ceramic hand/foot print thing organised, want to do a mug for DH.

num3onway · 07/05/2013 19:47

Atm I am fsvouring tescos newborn nappies, dd who weighed 9lb 6 two weeks ago is currently in size 2. You get 33 per pack and 2 packs for £4. I prefer these over asda and pampers.

Dd is wearing some next upto one month and some next upto 3 months.

To people who's lo's are struggling to fill clothes - sounds silly but have you washed the clothes first? I find they always shrink and then fit better. This is def the case with dd and next upto 3 months.

Dysgu · 07/05/2013 19:51

Hi all - just checking in before I go back to check what everyone has been up to. Things are going well here but I just don't have time to keep up ith this thread very often. i do try to check FB though...

Evan is doing really well - he had his 6 week check last week but has to go back when he is really 6 weeks old as 'he is like a newborn' said the Dr!! She was very lovely and anxious not to worry me - I was not in the least worried as all my DC have had to 'repeat' their 6 week check once they are really that old!

He has his first immunisations tomorrow morning. He is generally very chilled but I expect he will cry a bit. He is still sleeping most of the time unless he is feeding - he will sleep through a nappy change and I can put him in and out of my sling without him waking up too.

The DDs are his biggest fans - DD1 is a bot possessive of him if people want to come and admire him (and lots of people do!) but she is getting better! They love to come down in the morning and climb into his cot and chat with him - he is still in his moses basket.

We went to Paulton's Park/Peppa Pig world this weekend and he slept through most of it - some lovely pictures of him in my sling. He also sleeps though DD1's Irish Dancing competitions but I imagine he will start waking up more now that he is nearly 8 weeks old (nearly 2 weeks adjusted).

Off to catch up now...

HadALittleFaithBaby · 07/05/2013 20:02

We are using the Pampers newborn - they were on offer in Tesco. They're aren't many that fit her tiny bum and I like the wetness indicator. Are you guys using daytime/ night time nappies? I'm changing before I feed anyway so I've been using standard ones.

Glad you've got the pushchair that suits you again kelle :)

Well we've had a nice day. Been to a farm park with Faithlet, Dad and my nephew. Bit of chilling in the sunny weather is pleasant! Great for keeping on top of the washing too!

SneezySnatcher · 07/05/2013 21:42

Faith I'm cursing the wetness indicator! H seems to wee loads and he had a bit of nappy rash from the antibiotics, so I'm checking his nappies frequently. The indicator seems really sensitive, but if it's blue I feel guilty if I don't change it! I'm changing his nappies about twice an hour!!! Sometimes they are slightly damp but the indicator is blue!

It was a blooming genius who came up with the indicator - it's making them loads of extra money from me!

Dysgu · 07/05/2013 21:59

We use reusable nappies most of the time but we do have a pack of Asda disposables too at the moment. I am not keen on then TBH but do like the Sainsburys ones. I use disposables when we are going out as I don't like carrying a heavy bag of wet real nappies. With the girls, we used Lidl nappies when we used disposables - but they don't seem to start until size 3.

I have not seen nappies with a wetness indicator - I am now intrigued. There is a bit of me that wants to try them but I can also see how it would make me feel I should change it more often.
