Our first post natal thread!

Cooking & Cleaning can wait till tomorrow
for children grow up we've learnt to our sorrow
So wipe away cobwebs and dust go to sleep
I'm cuddling my baby cause babies don't keep!

A thread to celebrate the highs of life with a gorgeous newborn and the lows of sleepless nights, stitches, feeding traumas & Baby blues.

OP posts:

HadALittleFaithBaby · 05/05/2013 20:41

Yeah I think she's fine she just seemed a bit hot and bothered! Happier after a bath and big poo though! :)

bunnygirl80 · 05/05/2013 21:47

ellie they're my sentiments exactly. I spent so much time trying to educate DS I think I missed out on actually enjoying those snuggly newborn days. All they really need in the first couple of months is feeding and cuddling, and to hear your voice. Dd is the only person in this house who listens to a word I say at the moment, so I chat to her about all sorts....I generally fill in the gaps for her side of the conversation too Grin

AmberLav · 05/05/2013 23:17

Candy - we were just commenting today that DS is still a rather serious l

AmberLav · 05/05/2013 23:23

Cannot win on my iPod! Try again! DS is still rather serious looking, and was even practising his scowl on the midwife today! But at least he is very unlikely to wander off, as he doesn't trust strangers at all! He is perfectly social able at nursery though, so it doesn't make him unfriendly, just a little catious...

The weigh in went well, so DD is now 10st 7ozs at 11 days old, so she is signed off the midwife service, other than her ambilical cord, which has now dropped off entirely yet, but she can call me about that later in the week...

ElliesWellies · 06/05/2013 01:53

bunnygirl how old is your Ds? Mine was two in December and is alternately a delight and a terror. I cannot believe DD is over a month old, it goes so quickly the second time and we won't be having another so definitely trying to make the most of it!

Seriously, none of you should feel guilty about lack of entertainment at this stage, the feeding and changing are hard enough! Put your feet up with a Brew.

Hope everyone is enjoying the bank holiday weekend. Anyone got out and about? DH has been working but off tomorrow so have to make the most of it. Had an old friend over today, am the first of my friends to have had kids, amazing how different our lives are!

bunnygirl80 · 06/05/2013 03:51

ellie my DS was two in November. He's mostly a lovely boy but he's developed an ability to have the most monstrous tantrums when he wants. He adores dd though and is a good little helper for me.

Mama1980 · 06/05/2013 07:52

Morning all sorry I haven't had chance to read everyone's posts yet, this thread is really picking up speed!
Alex has never slept more than 2 hours in a row, this morning he slept for twenty minutes longer I was already awake watching him he jolted awake looked at me accusingly and screamed-as if it was my fault his feed was twenty minutes late! Grin ds1 was woken up and he frowned at me and asked why exactly was Alex crying, I'm feeling very ganged up on here laughing!

Mama1980 · 06/05/2013 07:55

Ellie we have been out and about a lot. Off to a nature reserve today with my family. Alex seems to love the fresh air and. Learnt a long time ago if ds1 doesn't get enough exercise the day doesn't go well. He goes to a athletics club- he runs for miles and never seems to tire!

Teapig · 06/05/2013 08:43

Thanks so much for all the advice on entertainment/stimulation. I'll keep on chatting away and show little one things around the house but I won't introduce anything more for now.

Teapiglet is now completely weaned off the formula top ups I'd turned to during the engorgement saga but is feeding every 2 hours now she's just on the boob. It makes nights a bit tough, I'd love her to go for longer.
mama, hats off to you for managing 2 hourly feeds for all this time that must be tougj. Yay for Alex going another 20 mins between them even if you did get ganged up on Wink

We're off to visit family today so it will be my practice run of BF in public before the real thing. Until I've been very top-off about it so I'll try to learn sone discression today.

Hope everyone has a great bank holiday.

SneezySnatcher · 06/05/2013 09:44

Happy bank holiday! DH back at work tomorrow so I'm a tiny bit scared!

enjay0811 · 06/05/2013 09:48

bird I feel exactly the same, lo only usually takes 10-15 mins on a night feed but can easily still be cuddling and kissing her 40 mins lata! Smile

bona Fleur is also a noisy sleeper and sounds like a little squeaky toy! I find its usually when she's got wind or needs a poo!

Thanks for all the advice on expressing too, will be Amazon shopping for a pump today I think Flowers

bunny did you say lo had 1st lot of immunisations? (on phone so difficult to name check sorry!). Hope it went well! I hate taking them for jabs and made dh take both dd's for the pre-school one's Sad

Currently enjoying snuggles with Fleur while dh sorts breakfast for the older dd's. Had a lovely day out with the in laws yday so prob have a lazy one with the kids today, they've been nagging to get the paddling pool out for a splash if the weather stays nice. Looks lovely out there again so far!

Have a good bank holiday everyone!

enjay0811 · 06/05/2013 09:49

Has anyone heard from empress on how little Sam is doing? Thinking of them x

usernamegoeshere · 06/05/2013 10:39

Am wondering about empressmatilda too, hope all is well.

Baby username is in a bad bad mood, literally crying all time since yesterday evening, we get small breaks but not many. I think she has upset tummy, she isn't pooing as much.

I did read all but by time I posted forgot who said what and when!!

Trishstar · 06/05/2013 10:57

Hunter hasn't pooed since 10am yesterday, he's on formula as we ran out of ebm and I'm not making much :-(

How often do they poo on formula? On my ebm he pooed at least 5 times a day x

enjay0811 · 06/05/2013 11:04

Trish not sure about poo's on formula but Fleur is ebf and only goes once a day. On formula I think prob more as there is more 'waste', but each baby has their own normal!

Trishstar · 06/05/2013 11:16

I thought that but googling suggests formula is harder to digest and they poo less?

On another note my wound is still not healed even with that anitibiotic cream! I'm fed up now cos I feel I can't do much whilst its healing. If I walk too much then it stings. I've got my 6 week check tomorrow (even tho it's only 5 weeks yesterday!) so I will see what they say! Also going to ask about that drug that helps milk production xx

HadALittleFaithBaby · 06/05/2013 12:35

Yes trish harder to digest so might slow down poo. Lots of websites suggest trying different brands to find one that suits too.

Happy bank holiday! It's glorious here. Having a chilled morning and getting the bedding washed and dried on the line. Then our local pub has a bouncy castle so we're off to the pub (ok Faithlet is too small but my 3.5 nephew will love it!).

Oh Mama someone with a preemie has posted on our ante-natal thread who might appreciate some support/Alex's story if you get a minute?

Trishstar · 06/05/2013 14:46

We've just had the poo to end all poos!!! I don't mind once a day!! Lol

Trishstar · 06/05/2013 14:56

Bec which pump did you use in hospital to express for Alex? xx

lutrinae · 06/05/2013 19:07

Hi all, just caught up after reading the last few pages. Good to see how everyone's doing!

Still got a grizzly fussy little chap here. Feels horrible when he screams at the breast and just not sure when/if he's finished as he never get
S that sleepy milk drunk look anymore, he just screams and thrashes about and won't sleep till we soothe him to sleep - sometimes not for a long time later. He headbutts me a lot so it's really hard to tell if he's still hungry but it's like he hates my breast! Makes me sad, frustrated and feel like a terrible mother Sad

It's impossible to feed in public as he de-latches so often the milk dribbles or sprays everywhere so I started expressing today. Thanks to all who gave advice on when to do this as I wasn't sure. Also I was given a Medela mini electric pump and it seems to have bruised my nipples. Is this normal?! They kinda hurt now.

Sorry for the self centred post and thanks for listening.

BonaDea · 06/05/2013 19:15

Lutrinae that sounds hard. Have you spoken to a health visitor or better still a lactation expert about what is going on? NCT and la leche league both have helplines you can google and call. Alternatively google for breastfeeding drop ins near you?

A pump shouldn't bruise you!! I have a double electric pump which is great as it takes half the time.

bunnygirl80 · 06/05/2013 20:41

enjay dd had her first immunisations yesterday (well technically second as they do some at birth here!). She's been fine, they made her very drowsy, so we had lots of cuddly naps, and she's just slept 7pm-5am! I think I'm just a harsh mother because its never bothered me seeing them get jabbed. Possibly helped by neither of them ever having cried for more than 10 seconds when it's done.

lutrinae that sounds horrible. Can you see someone to give you some feeding advice? I used a medela pump in hospital and it left my nipples feeling bruised too. Can you turn down the suction a bit, that might help. I have an Avent electric pump at home and it's much more comfortable.

Dd performed well at her six week check, the doctor said she's as alert as alot of 3 and 4 month olds.....clearly going to be a genius then Grin Off to get her passport photo taken today so we can get her a passport ASAP and added onto our visa.

Mama1980 · 06/05/2013 20:45

Thanks faith Grin have found the post and pm'd her. Finger crossed for little Oliver x
Thinking of empress and Samuel too x
Trish in hospital they had a medical grade pump which I don't think you can get. But I now have a tomee electrical double pump which I am using to express so I can have some milk frozen just incase. It's amazingly great and mimics a baby's suck so three sharp pulls then a rhythm if that makes sense to induce let down.
Lutrinae- that sounds tough. A breast pump definitely shouldn't bruise. Have you spoken to someone about your latch? Or maybe a lactation consultant who could help to find a good position? If it helps I have very fast letdown milk sprays everywhere so when we're out I lay a muslin underneath Alex's chin so when/if he pulls away it catches the drips and I can yank it up to cover me.

We had a great day in the sunshine I hope everyone else did too.

Mama1980 · 06/05/2013 20:46

Bunny, great news that the check went well Grin x

lutrinae · 06/05/2013 20:48

Thanks Bona. Yes I will definitely do that, good idea
