I'm just rambling...

BuntyCollocks · 30/04/2013 14:26

Hugs to everyone in the growth spurt, it's not pleasant.

Im also broody. Four people I work with have announced their pregnancies recently, and it just reminds me of how exciting it all was - and terrifying. DH is still saying no more. I think the growth spurt has a lot to do with it!

We're just back from iron man 3 and it was fab. Dd was a little honey.

Meringue33 · 30/04/2013 15:46

Today I cried. A lot. It is just the bloody screaming and no-napping that is getting to me. Sometimes I don't want to go out on a walk or drive. I just want him to nap without fussing in the house so I can get on with some housework or just have a cup of tea. I am knackered. I want my life back :(

BuntyCollocks · 30/04/2013 16:14

Oh, meringue. :( can your mum or someone come round and give you a cuddle and a break? It is hard. I know it is. 2 weekends ago I told DH if he didn't get his arse home from tesco the baby was going out the window and I'd be joining her.

Where are you? Are you close to any of us that we could pop by with tea, cake and sympathy? It's always easier when it's not your baby. You can tune the screaming out and not take it as personally.

Meringue33 · 30/04/2013 16:27

Aw thanks Bunty, that is really sweet of you. Am in Yorkshire. Mum is five hours drive away :(

He is sleeping now as I went and pushed him around the neighbourhood. I suppose I should be grateful as at least I have something that works, I am just knackered from all the walking!

Will ask DP to give him his bottle early tonight so I can go to a 12 Step meeting; I used to attend regularly and really miss it.

AppleCrumples · 30/04/2013 17:21

Pascha when ds1 was a baby weaning was now! Will hold Ivy off for as long as poss as it is easier when they are older. Although i did buy her first sippy cup today so she can get used to it before she really needs it. Can't believe hiw fast the last 17 weeks have gone Shock

Meringue sorry you're having a rough day. Doing something for yourself sounds a good idea. Makes you feel.more like you again IYSWIM.

Today i feel utterly shattered! Ivy sleeps quite well but we are up quite early and its still interrupted sleep. Dp doing dcs bedtime tonight so think i will go to bed when Ivy goes up

Lora1982 · 30/04/2013 19:02

Meringue i feel your pain i had a meltdown sunday. Lack of sleep and a 24/7 job just got to me and felt like there was no help. Just ten mins to yourself will help wonders though x

My brother thought i might like this book: liartownusa.tumblr.com/post/44608209894/give-baldy-your-tit-what-to-do-with-it-now-that

happyhow · 30/04/2013 19:44

Brilliant Lora!

I've just finished a bit of tutoring. I quite like it for knowing that my brain still works but it's also 90 mins or so that I'm not thinking about/entertaining/changing/feeding Bailey. Hope you've managed to get a wee break Meringue.

Went to B&Q this afternoon to get some bedding plants to brighten up our front garden. You def know you're a grown up when you spend ages trying to work out which combinations will look best! Must have looked ridiculous having B's car seat plonked on one end of a flatbed trolley surrounded by plants and gardening paraphernalia!! He seemed quite happy. Hoping the weather will be good tomorrow so that I can plant them.

Tugstonia · 30/04/2013 19:46

Ah Meringue sorry you've had such a shit day. Hope you get to your meeting and get some decent time to yourself this evening :)

Lora Brilliant book! I want it.

DD went from v sleepy to v upset and screamy baby today post-jabs. I've never seen her so upset, she screamed and cried for about two hours straight and only calmed down after I gave her calpol even though she wasn't really feverish. I then took her to a friend's dd's birthday party and she just screamed some more so brought her home again. DP is now trying to get her to sleep while I stuff pizza and ice cream into my gob. Not exactly diet-friendly but sod it.

Louise85 · 30/04/2013 21:03

Meringue Flowers Brew Biscuit ... really hope your day got better?? This job is the hardest thing I've ever done - I don't think non-mom's realise how hard it actually is - much harder than a full time job IMHO... Thinking of you & hope you get it sorted - have you thought about sleep training...I know I'm going to get shot by lots of you on this thread...but I did sleep training last week or so - and I haven't looked back. It was so hard, there were tears - both him and me...but two days of it and now he goes to sleep in his cot. There are lots of options - I wouldn't use controlled crying coz thats for over 6 months but there are other options that work from birth...

Although, saying that today Ds was miserable - but I think its his poor teeth, so ended up giving neurofen which helped...just wish I could have the toothache and not them. Does anyone elses get bright red hot cheeks?? tried to give him lots of cuddles...

Tomorrow I have a day of hell planned - about 10 appointments now of looking at houses, dd's speech therapy, people coming to look at my house, health visitor...so kids are being watched by dh in the morning and a friend in the afternoon - it will be the longest I've ever left ds with anyone - am wondering if there might be tears (from me) when I drop him off....but day ends with me having a massage and missing bedtime hour Grin ... wonder what state the house and dh and dc will be in when I get home.....Hmm

I always seem to write mammoth posts - and waffle Blush ...

Meringue33 · 01/05/2013 07:50

Aw thank you guys you are all lovely.

Had a really nice evening reconnecting and feeling supported at my group... Sadly taking his bottle earlier threw out LO's whole routine and he was up half the night! Never mind.

Was looking back at NCSS and BW, both say he should be having 11 hrs sleep at night and 4-5 hours daytime naps. Has anyone else actually managed to achieve this yet??

BuntyCollocks · 01/05/2013 08:09

Glad you're feeling better, meringue.

We get at least 9 hours overnight, today heading up on 12! She was an overtired, overstimulated wreck last night who was just sobbing her little heart out so she's catching up now thank goodness.

We were getting at least the 5 hours in naps up until a few weeks ago - need to try and force her back to it. She would usually have a huge 3 hour kip, and then a few power naps here and there, but she's trying to drop the big one - not happening!

Might just take her swimming every day. Went on Sunday and got a 5 hour nap out of her then, DS was down for 3 1/2, and DH and I fell into a crumpled heap on the sofa, too. It. Was. Awesome.

Pascha · 01/05/2013 08:15

I reckon we got 9.5 hours overnight, maybe 3 during the day today but we're out and about so he may well just powernap on and off in the sling or pram which will be ok.

At home he's definitely achieving 45mins mid morning and 1.5hrs lunchtime (sometimes 2x45min), afternoon nap is more problematic which makes bedtime a bit long sometimes. He's usually down by 8.30pm but it takes an hour to get there.

Angielka · 01/05/2013 08:21

So glad you're feeling better meringue it is bloody hatrd work, this job. Not recognised enough by everyone who's not doing it right now, which is why virtual as well as rl groups are so suportive. Sorry about your night though Hmm

I'd say Molly is having about the level of sleep you say, but every baby's different! Take it as a rough guide Smile

Angielka · 01/05/2013 08:23

Bunty swimming is a great idea. Our local pool has just re-opened but so far I've just not found the energy time to take the girls

Birdies · 01/05/2013 09:10

We're definitely in the sleep regression phase. Still. What's with the hourly waking?

Birdies · 01/05/2013 09:11

...It's a good job she's so sweet.

Last set of jabs today, will be glad to have those out of the way.

Hope everyone has a nice day!

Meringue33 · 01/05/2013 10:08

It is a beautiful morning for the park!

Thank you all for kind words Thanks Thanks

It is a revelation having kids, isn't it!! Can't believe I still want another.

Swimming is an ace idea. Do you guys go to Water Babies or something else? What are the actual logistics, is it safe unsupervised? Where do you buy swim nappies?

lollipoppi · 01/05/2013 11:11

Glad your feeling better meringue.
It's amazing how much a little bit of sunshine can change things, I find it gives me a bit more motivation!

DD has about 4, 30 min naps during the day, unless we're out and she can sleep for hours!
Wish she would sleep for longer during the day but she is sleeping well at night so I can't complain

Tugstonia · 01/05/2013 12:22

DD went from midnight to 6am this morning without a feed! Really hoping this is the start of a new waking pattern but could just be the jabs of course. She woke up a few times but I managed to settle her quickly with the dummy. Meringue her daytime naps vary from 25 mins to 2 hours depending where we are/what we're doing, and she usually has 3 naps in the day. I doubt she has 4-5 hrs of naps though and certainly doesn't get 11 hours at night!

Meringue33 · 01/05/2013 12:49

Cool, glad to hear it sounds like a "textbook baby" is quite rare!

Cejay8 · 01/05/2013 13:45

So far today S woke at 7.40am and has had 2 x 30 mins naps in her cot. If we're out walking or in the carrier she'll sleep for hours! We went to Whipsnade zoo last week and she slept for 4-5 hours of the day in the car, her cocoon and the carrier - but when I'm home I'm lucky to get a couple of hours in the day. But she does 11 hours at night. I'll probably go for a walk this afternoon at nap time as its such a lovely day.

DS is 3 years old next month and I've had a few days where I've felt like I just can't cope with them both (along with all the cooking, laundry etc) he goes to the childminder 1 day a week and grandma's another day - that's how I manage really. Also I have a cleaner 2 hours every week at the moment. We also survive by walking miles around the village, to the river, park, local shop.... Anything to get out the house! Everyone's happier then.Grin

Pascha · 01/05/2013 14:47

Meringue you can find disposable swim nappies size 3 upwards in any supermarket (Huggies little swimmers are the best) or reusable nappies that look like swim trunks in boots/mothercare etc.

Dan has a reusable one and a neoprene swim wrap over the top to keep his body warm. He lasts a lot longer in the pool this way. I love swimming it tires them out so well Smile

Been to toddler group this morning then down to the beach for lunch. Lovely warm spring morning.
