Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
halestone · 29/04/2013 22:09

Stacks i can't remember if you bf or ff. If your ff its not dairy free but H has only been sick 4 times since thursday since i swopped to cow and gate reflux.

SkiBunnnnny · 29/04/2013 22:10

Exciting about cloth nappies Nutella! I feel like I want to try them but I'm scared I'll spend all that money on them then not be able to stick with it.

DH is trying to get as much work done today so that he can leave early and take us for the shots tomorrow. Just trying to call in favours for Friday now. It's just such a pain where we live, there's no public transport, taxis would be ridiculously expensive and it's almost a three hour round trip including appointment time so a lot to ask someone.

itsMYNutella · 29/04/2013 22:14

Thanks for all the cloth support Grin

I went mainly with what was recommended to me by the nappy lady (thank you pidj her service is amazing and I wouldn't have been able to make a choice without her help)
I have some of each of:
Bumgenius, Charlie Bananas, Little lambs and big softies. I've asked my little bro to try and pick up 1 or 2 totsbots for me (currently on offer in boots and some tesco stores) to have a look at too.

I'm amazed that I haven't met anyone here who uses cloth and they don't know anyone that is using cloth either. In fact when I've asked friends about cloth nappies they mostly look at me like this ShockConfused

I'm feeling very evangelical right now.... I might start a mini mission to bring funky cloth nappies to this (very green & normally irritatingly nauseatingly Eco friendly) corner of Germany. Smile

itsMYNutella · 29/04/2013 22:16

Oh, if anyone else has any further cloth advice/ tips / links please let me know!!! I'm trying to convert some people (jeez I do sound evangelical) but as a total beginner I need more help!

Stacks I hope you get some sleep soon. DS has been all over the place sleep wise over the last week. I'm hoping he'll settle bak to his normal 2 ish night feeds once he is over this cough.

itsMYNutella · 29/04/2013 22:20

Ski that's a pity about the appointments being so far and so log. I'm keeping everything crossed your DH can take you.
Make the leap to cloth (I think there are also various trial packs you can rent or buy)!! Grin
I had to have some Charlie bananas simply because they look so cool Confused their functionality came secondary ....

IsThatTrue · 30/04/2013 01:34

I've missed a lot as my phone was all wanky and wouldn't load MN.

Sunday night I spent about 3 hrs in total feeding. Was so tired I fell asleep sitting up and had DS in with us from 3 as I was knackered. He then fed pretty much constantly on Monday. I worked out from7.30am to 3.30pm he was feeding for 5 1/2 hrs !! Shock he fed loads in the evening and went down at 7.30. He's just woken up Shock 6 hours!! That's like the first time ever it may be the second it of it was the first was at around 8 weeks !!!

Stacks · 30/04/2013 02:01

6th wake up and feed since 9:15 when I came to bed. We're ebf so not as simple as changing formula unfortunately.

MaMaPo · 30/04/2013 03:20

Stacks, we had a big growth spurt here a few weeks ago blow gone in opposite direction - she happily goes 4 hours between feeds and I have to remember to offer 3 hourly! So it does sound tough but will come to an end. Eat plenty of cake.

IsThatTrue · 30/04/2013 04:47

stacks I feel for you I was knackered yest after DS' bad night but hopefully your LO will turn a corner just S quickly as mine did.

6hrs Shock, 2.5 hrs. :)

Sorry that was a rubbish suggestion then. Could you try going acid free so no apples or oranges or that type of thing. Maybe that could help with the reflux as well. I'm obviously only guessing that, and its only because my HV told me to avoid those types of food while i'm weaning as the acid would be burning H if she's got reflux. So i was wondering if it would work 4 you.

Barbeasty · 30/04/2013 08:59

Stacks I think caffeine can also be something that causes reflux, and that if dairy is the problem soy can have a similar effect (something about the proteins being similar).

Have you only been given gaviscon? There are other, stronger, medications. Fingers crossed the paediatrician helps.

We should have had a good night last night. DD had a "sleepover" with MIL, then DH had to stay at work until about 11pm. So a nice, quiet, early (ish) night.

I decided to see if A would go for longer in the cot, which is in DD's room. But no, up at 10 (earlier than usual). Then 11, midnight, 1am. At 2am he woke up and wasn't hungry but wanted to chat. Until 3.30. Then we both slept until about 6.

Just got to decide whether I do the housework I really need to get done, or go and enjoy the sunshine.

If A let's me....

MaMaPo · 30/04/2013 09:01

Barbeasty, after a night like that, sunshine.

C also decided to play for an hour and a half at 3am. Not cool, little girl.

Stacks · 30/04/2013 09:24

We had 11 wake ups in 11 hours. He was up for the day at 6 after going to bed at 7. I took him back to bed for his morning nap hoping to get a little longer, but he was only down 45 mins. Ah well.

Thanks for the suggestions around reflux. I can't drink orange/apple juice as it make T poo upwards of 5 times a day! Also not had caffeine in about 6 years, so that's not it. Thing is, he's not got typical reflux symptoms - he's hardly ever sick and doesn't cry much or seem in pain. However he often brings acid up into his mouth which he swallows back down. It makes him grimace, choke and cough, but never cry. He gave the doc a demonstration yesterday that got us the referral. She suggested it could be reflux waking him overnight, I'd just thought it was sleep regression.

Barbeasty definitely sunshine. That's my plan to get through today.

WLmum · 30/04/2013 09:35

Oh stacks that is tough. Controversial suggestion - could you try a couple if spoons of baby rice before bed to act as a thickener for the milk in his belly?

Today enormo baby aged 4.5 months is wearing the outfit dd2 wore to DBs wedding aged 7.5 months!

SpottyTeacakes · 30/04/2013 09:45

Stacks I was also going to suggest baby rice

IsThatTrue · 30/04/2013 10:03

WL :) at 'enormobaby'

WeeJo08 · 30/04/2013 10:07

Oh stacks that sounds exhausting :( I have only read back a little bit but was also going to suggest some baby rice? When DD had that bug a few weeks ago, she had diarrhoea & vomiting and the doctor recommended Dioralyte Relief as it contains powdered rice. I know it's not exactly the same situation for you but it might help to settle him and/or absorb some of the acid.

Well, we had an interesting night. C was absolutely fine & slept right through...it was me who was the problem. Just after I went to bed I felt a little dodgy, like an unsettled tummy, so I got up & went into the bathroom. Not sure what happened next but I woke up on the floor. I must have fainted & managed to smack my head on the sink on the way down. Came downstairs afterwards to hubby who was very alarmed at my head which had a bump the size of a baseball on it! Didn't know what to do so just got some frozen peas on it & checked for signs of concussion. Am fine this morning but do have a rather sore head!! It's happened loads over the years, I'm just a bit of a fainter! Confused

Sorry for the long winded post!!

Nutella Good for you with the cloth nappies! Please let me know how you get on. I would be interested too.

Ski Hope you're continuing to improve xx

WeeJo08 · 30/04/2013 10:08

"Enormobaby"!!! Grin That's a brill phrase, WL!

Barbeasty · 30/04/2013 11:13

Love enormobaby. Sounds much nicer than the monster baby in our nct group (2 weeks younger than A, half as heavy again!)

I'm going out once A's had this feed. The thing with housework is that the entire house is a tip, and I hate it. I'm not the neatest of people, but it really is awful. I just don't have the chance to do anything and DD is a nightmare. I don't need things to be perfect but now A can roll and wriggle off his playmat, I need the floor to not be covered in tiny bits if dried playdough, grapes and crappy jewellery from magazines. I don't want to move the sofa and find old bits of banana underneath. And as for DH sitting her down to eat a meal in front of the TV just hours after I've cleaned & hoovered in the lounge....

And then there's the fact that DD will wander off to either dress herself or use a potty/ toilet. So then I'll find a pull up she's discarded in some random room. And the unflushed toilet, or the used potty.

Right one sleeping baby, so into the sling and off out.

SpottyTeacakes · 30/04/2013 11:15

Barbeasty I'm always finding surprise wees Hmm

HoneyMumandSon · 30/04/2013 12:22

FoD - according to wonder weeks you should be getting towards the end of a major stormy period by the time you hit 20 weeks. It says

Is suddenly very active: one moment he is taking a rest, the next moment suddenly everything about him moves;
Hardly misses when he grasps something;
Puts mother's hand in his mouth;
Pulls a cloth away from his own face (first still slow);
'Hits' the table with a toy;
Is busy with an "activity center";
Searches to see where mom or dad are;
Reacts to his mirror image;
Responds to his name;
Uses consonants;
Pushes the breast away when he has enough;
Grumbles when he is impatient.

Barbeasty · 30/04/2013 12:46

Fun isn't it Spotty. Although I prefer a surprise wee to the first time DD decided to empty her own potty. Emptying the wee into the toilet she could do. But I can confirm a 2yr old can't hold a potty full to the brim with water from the bath tap. Thank goodness it was in the bathroom with a lino floor, not the ensuite the previous owners had carpeted!

Think we are having a day of zero sleep too. Managed about 15 minutes in the sling. Now grizzling in the cot while I have lunch.

itsMYNutella · 30/04/2013 12:49

Thats very handy honey thank you for posting it! DS is 17 weeks today and a couple of things apply. He has also started feeding every two hours at night (he feeds about every 3 in the day Hmm)

Stacks · 30/04/2013 13:43

"Grumbles when he is impatient" oh does he ever! Non stop! Most of those things for T, just hoping we're near the end now at 18w plus the 2 he was overdue.

I was wondering about baby rice. I'm hoping DH might take DS tonight so I can do some online shopping. Buy some dairy replacements and maybe some freezer bags for expressed milk. Then I can start thinking about making up some baby rice with bm and give it a go. Going to read about reflux today in my spare moments and see if I can pick up any tips.

Who thought jabs, teething, sleep regression and developmental leaps were good things to put together?? They should be shot.

Stacks · 30/04/2013 13:48

Barbeasty I'm the same with housework these days. I'm in all day now noticing everything that needs doing, so whenever DH takes T for a little while I end up doing something I couldn't do with him - like cleaning the fish tank, hoovering, dusting, cleaning the microwave. All things DH doesn't seem to notice in his 4 hours of bliss after I go to bed with DS...

Can you imagine having 4 hours without a baby? All together, with no worrying about them waking up etc because your DH has boobs and is on duty? [daydreams parked out front of the house with sleeping DS in the car, too afraid to move him]
