Seconds glad you've sorted things with DH. I agree men definitely see things in black and white.

Stacks, H doesn't cry but she squeals when bored i often keep her most occupied by lying her on the floor and putting all her toys around her so she can swop when shes bored.

Mama, your not bad mum today that sounds like a faulty high chair or it should have said in the instructions about removing the safety bar to get them out.

Spotty hows your diet going?

This might be long but the HV came out on tuesday and i was at breaking point with H's sleep, she does the occasional 4 hour sleep (she managed a week once). But on Monday we kept a conscious eye on it and from midnight till midnight she slept 5.5 hours the whole day and that isn't an out of the ordinary day.Hmm

Anyway i was crying and she told me that her sleep was abnormal. She then asked me about her pooing and i explained that she had gone from 1 poo a day to 6-7 and the Dr said she had gastroenteritis, but we thought it was her formula so swopped from aptamil to c&g. And her poos had gone down to 5-6 poo's. She asked when she poo'd and i said mostly whilst she was eating and that it was quite runny and i was throwing away alot of clothes.

Then she asked if she vomited alot so i said she posseted after every feed and in between each feed. She asked if this happened whilst bf and i said yes but the volume had increased now. I told her i had asked the Dr about reflux but he said no she didn't have it.

She also asked about where she slept best an i told her in the car and she stayed asleep longer in her car seat.

So suggested that H may have a intolerance to Formula and that because i was combined feeding for a while that it had masked things as it sounded like the formula was going straight through her. Or that H may have reflux. And told me to book an appt with my GP. And also to try and get hold of C&G reflux formula. She thinks that it sounds like the formula is going straight through her.

So we saw the Locum GP yesterday who wasn't impressed with HV and told his baby never slept longer than 4 hours. So i asked if those 4 hours that his child slept were all in the same stint he said yesConfused i told him that i would love that and its rare for her to sleep longer than 2 hours and that she didn't sleep much at all an her regular pattern was a 1-2 hour sleep followed by a few 15-30 minute sleeps throughout the day. He's agreed to send off a stool sample to see if shes intolerant to milk, but wouldn't prescribe anything for reflux.

We managed to get some C&G reflux and started it this morning, she hasn't vomited once and also has only poo'd once Grin it is really thick though so now we're using the variflow teats. When she goes to sleep it will be interesting to see how long she lasts. But i've noticed a huge improvements GrinGrinGrin i'm going to kiss the HV when she comes back tomorrow haha.

Sorry about the Mammoth post xxx

Secondsop · 25/04/2013 23:10

halestone well done for persevering with the doctor. Really hope you have success with the reflux formula. z spits up a fair bit but not all the time and is outgrowing it.

We went shopping this evening. First to TK Maxx where I got some gro-bags although when I got home I realised (we'd been in a rush) I'd picked up 3 x 1 tog and 1 x 2.5 tog instead of 2 of each. But I guess our bedroom does get quite hot so 1 tog might well be ok for warmer nights even come Autumn. Also got some bibs that have plastic backing, for my little spitter-upper. We also went to Ikea and got 2 high chairs (one for our house, one for my mum's house).

SkiBunnnnny · 25/04/2013 23:59

Hello!
Lots to tell so I'll update now then go and catch up.
We arrived in Ottawa late Monday night, LO did really well on the plane, sleeping for most of it seeing as it was his bedtime anyway. Then Tuesday night we had a great time throwing a surprise party for mil (us being there was the main surprise). Then I put LO to bed and decided just to lie down since everyone was getting a bit raucous and drunk downstairs and I wasn't feeling too great. Then a couple of hours later I started throwing up and spent the whole night up sick. The next morning my stomach was agony so we went into hospital. Turns out I had appendicitis! Had my appendix out this morning. LO had formula for the first time yesterday which made me a little bit (unnecessarily) sad. The hospital has lent me an electric pump but I'm just using it to relieve pain and keep up supply. No one seems to be giving me a straight answer as to whether my milk is safe and it's coming out a bit green Confused so I'm just dumping it.
Not sure how much longer I'll be in hospital, hopefully in time to fly home on Sunday as planned.

halestone · 26/04/2013 00:24

Oh no Ski, hope your ok and that you have a quick recovery Thanks

FriendofDorothy · 26/04/2013 00:27

I am feeling proper poorly tonight and think I might have a Touch of flu.

Have had a horrid sore throat and headache all day. Got realty shivery tonight so put on several layers of clothes and went to bed with a couple of hot water bottles.

Have just woken for first feed and still have a bad head and throat but the shivering is easing.

utopian99 · 26/04/2013 00:38

Sorry about the appendix ski, but glad it was caught and sorted out! Get well soon..

Happy six months day to Dash honey, gosh that's gone fast! O is only just 4 months..

Secondsop · 26/04/2013 00:45

Goodness skibunny! Hope you recover soon. I've had appendicitis and it was horrible. Did they manage to do it via keyhole surgery?

halestone · 26/04/2013 01:05

Oh Happy 6 months to Dash Grin

Hope its not flu FoD, and that you feel better when you wake tomorrow

SkiBunnnnny · 26/04/2013 01:25

Thanks guys! Yeah, they did the keyhole surgery but I have 3 different incisions so not sure if its really any better!
It's kind of for the best it happened while we were here because mil and sil have been able to help looking after LO. They brought him in to see me this afternoon and I was crying because I couldn't cuddle him properly.

On a happier note he absolutely loves his two cousins. His 4 year ole cousin had him screaming with laughter just by dancing around and being silly. I have never heard him laugh so enthusiastically and for so long before and it was great that DH was there to see it too.

We have been giving him vitamin D since birth I'm pretty sure people of all ages are recommended to take it in Canada since we have such a long dark winter.

Sorry about your LO hales, but looks like you're getting it sorted which is good. Good thing you kept on at the GP.

Oh dear FoD really hope you don't have flu :(

WillYouDoTheFandango · 26/04/2013 05:27

Goodness me, so much news.

Wow appendicitis! Glad you're on the mend Ski, and hope you'll be we'll enough to fly home. Im sure you're in laws are taking great care of your DS but it must be so hard being apart from him.

Well done for sticking with it Hales and getting H the help she needs. That Hv deserves a medal and that GP sounds like a but of a patronising twat

Hope you feel better FoD keep up those fluids.

Well and truly into sleep regression here. Velcroed to me all day, wants to play all night. We took him to the Trafford centre yesterday evening though, DP carried him round and the nosey bugger loved it! May switch him to the pram seat instead of the carry cot.

WLmum · 26/04/2013 07:31

hales see a different gp who actually listens to what you say - that one sounds like he needs to fuck right off. Do you have a paeds gp at your practice?

ski - shocker! I would cry too.

I had a major meltdown at 5.30 this morning. Am so fed up with being exhausted. Stayed awake as long as I could last night to do a dream feed (to help with the reflux) which went well but was too early so when she woke at 4 she was really sick as normal then was wide awake. Got her back to sleep at 6 and big two get up at 6.30. And I'm still having to do loads if caring for my mum who is still really poorly and probably will be for ages. Feeling very sorry for myself.

Barbeasty · 26/04/2013 07:50

Hales that's fantastic. Fingers crossed it's a lasting improvement. I'd consider contacting the practice manager, especially if the samples show an intolerance. Not necessarily a complaint, but maybe suggest some professional development.

Ski ouch! Hope you recover soon.

WLmum I had to have one of DD's teddies with me last night, after it "ran across my bed, daddy" at about 2am on Wednesday....

A was amazingly happy yesterday, for a baby who had his 16 week jabs. And when I had him weighed he was up to 13lb 0.5oz, which means he's started to follow a line. Yay for anti sickness meds.

ISpyPlumPie · 26/04/2013 08:30

Ski - that must have been quite a shock. Hope you have a speedy recovery Thanks.

FOD - hope you are feeling better soon.

Hales - the reflux formula sounds promising. Fx the hv has cracked it so that you and H can get some proper rest now.

WL - sounds like a challenging night! Have a v large Brew (and a Wine later on). How is your mum doing?

Honey - belated happy half birthday to dash.

N seems to have discovered the joys of biting during feeding Sad.

halestone · 26/04/2013 09:10

So last night she went to sleep at 1 which is the earliest ever Grin, woke at 3.:45, 4:45, 5:45, 6:50 and 8:45. A huge improvement GrinGrinGrinGrin Seems to like 45 though haha

Stacks · 26/04/2013 09:12

Quick message before I've finished reading back hales would you like a pack of infant gaviscon to try? My doctor gave me 4 boxes of it because I said DS is sometimes sick into his mouth and obviously doesn't like the taste - he grimaces and shudders - and it smells very acidic. So no real "problem" just a lovely doctor who saw no problem with prescribing it to see if it helped. I can post it up to you today?

littleginger · 26/04/2013 09:16

Hello can i join in please? Grin my LO is 18 weeks now and it would be good to see how everyone else's LOs are developing :)

My little girl is great at grabbing and holding her toys now she's really come on in the last fortnight. She showed some signs she was about to roll (she got herself into some of the maddest positions on her playmat) but that's subsided a bit now.

Does everybody here get their LO to do tummy time? Mine HATES it with a passion! Screams the house down and sticks her fingers down her throat Hmm I aim to do it before I change her nappy because she loves getting that done but I often forget!

MaMaPo · 26/04/2013 10:09

Welcome littleginger! My little one is 20 weeks, strangely LOVES tummy time, and did the same thing of trying madly to roll then forgetting about it. She's starting up again though. I wouldn't worry too much about tummy time if your daughter hates it (what's her name?) - I think giving her opportunities is good but if she hates it that much make it short? Maybe one day she'll surprise you, as mine did, and enjoy herself.

Hales great news. Ignore your rubbish GP and do whatever you can to get the right formula for H. I really hope things pick up for you, I don't know how you've managed.

Ski oh my lord! You poor thing! Glad they caught it quickly and I hope youre on the mend. I do understand what you mean about the formula though - it is a little thing, and no problem, but it must feel like the decision was taken out of your hands.

Amazing night last night - bed at 7, dreamfeed at 10.30 and she slept until 5.30, and then until 7.30! This is the best night in over a month. AND then I put her in her cot earlier as she was tired but too wriggly in my arms, and it took her about 20 minutes but she fell asleep on her own! I am completely gobsmacked. If this is what happens after the sleep regression then I am thrilled.

In my weird dream-filled haze at 4.30am when I was sure she'd wake up, I dreamt that I was all excited about her night's sleep and then my husband told me she'd woken up every hour and he'd been settling her. A bad dream! then I dreamt I was in a huge underground supermarket in New York that was full of fake forests and meadows, like something from The Truman Show

Stacks · 26/04/2013 10:10

Ski I got appendicitis on a trip to the States a few years ago. Well, I had it before I left and all through the flight (oops). I had keyhole surgery, then they woke me up every hour through the night to walk around, and sent me home after breakfast. Was in less than 24hrs! I didn't have insurance though and never did pay the $20k so maybe they rushed me out because of that. How long have you been in?
I nearly couldn't fly home a month later - you should phone the airline you're with and check their procedures. You might need a fit-to-fly note or similar. That said, I was rushed off the plane onto an ambulance on arrival, so the airline had a "medical emergency" note against my name for the return journey.

hales glad you had a better night. It's crazy how little sleep can seem like good sleep :) Really hope things continue to improve for you.

Welcome ginger, my DS is 17w and coming on quickly recently. He's good a grabbing things, and can roll over (but only on my saggy bed, into the trench down the middle). He also really hates tummy time, though he's getting a bit better and can go for a couple of minutes before screaming. DH holds DS in a tummy down position and flies him round the house making 'dakka dakka dakka' machine gun noises pretending he's an aeroplane. It's like tummy time as he has to hold his head up, but he loves it.

WL I broke down in tears yesterday from being so tired. I just need a break :( I don't have a family member to look after either (yet, my dads coming up next week to recuperate after his heart surgery). I really hope you get some sleep and a bit of a break soon. I missed what's wrong with your mum, but can anyone help you with some of the care?

Willyou DS loves his pushchair, he can sit up and be nosey while he's awake, and when he gets tired I can just lay him down flat. Only downside is its quite exposed, even with the sun hood up and cosy toes on. I use the rain cover to block the wind on really bad days (which is every day recently).

We have swimming today. I think I'm looking forward to getting out the house, but not sure. I've been wondering about PND the last few days. I'm just so tired, really tearful yesterday, not much interest in food, and keep wanting to tell DH to just go away and leave me alone - though I look forward to him coming home every day.

MaMaPo · 26/04/2013 10:19

Stacks have you spoken to your HV about your mood, or your GP? Don't ignore it and battle through. I am sending you some very un-MN hugs. This is bloody tough, even when it's 'easy'. (Love the machine gunning baby though.)

WL You must be exhausted. I had a good meltdown over Skype to my mum at 4am the other day. It's just the worst time of day.

Equimum · 26/04/2013 10:21

hales sorry your drs continue to be so useless, but I'm glad the new formula seemed to help. I really hope this will improve your LOs sleep too.

ski hope you're feeling better now

Welcome ginger. I have a 16.5 week old son. He hated tummy time for ages, but is better now he can push up and roll.

stacks sorry to hear you're feeling down, but well done for recognising it. Can you make an appointment with your GP?

Really feeling for all of you who are completely shattered at the moment.

We had a relatively good night, but DS has woken up all sniffly and coughing this morning. He was also really sick across our bed first thing, which is most out of character. He's now spent the past our cuddled up, periodically feeding, just like a newborn. Is that normal when they 're off colour,

littleginger · 26/04/2013 11:09

Thanks for the tips on tummy time. My daughter is called Eva and i am just such a wimp when she cries I need to man up a bit and persevere with the tummy time cos she is such a wriggly worm and wants to see what's going on all the time. If it helped her get a bit more independent with her mobility quicker then itll be worth it in the long run!

MaMaPo glad to hear you've had a good night! It has hopefully given you hope!

stacks that aeroplane (machine gun) idea is a good one! I try a little version of this in front of the mirror so she looks up and giggles at herself but it doesn't last long before she starts to stare at the plug sockets by the floor (which has been duly noted for the day when ill need to baby-fy the house)

I'm so sorry to hear you're having such a hard time of it. Babies are just hard work enough without the battle of PND too!

equimum no experience of an unwell baby here but it sounds very much like the behaviour I personally exhibit when I'm poorly!

FriendofDorothy · 26/04/2013 11:57

I am feeling a bit better this morning - thank goodness!

Does anyone have any advice on to get their monster to take a bottle. E loves the boob but I go back to work in 8 weeks and worry he is going o starve if he doesn't learn to take a bottle. He screams and cries and pushes the bottle out of his mouth. Very frustrating!

halestone · 26/04/2013 12:22

Welcome ginger Grin

Thank you Stacks Grin i think this formula is going to work tho as she hasn't vomited once once. I really hope your ok like WL said please think about getting in touch with your Dr or HV. Mine has helped me immensely this week. She was able to suggest things i hadn't even thought of. Also i hope your dad is ok.

FoD we started H on bottles but DP had to give her them at first and i had to be quite far away from her. Also have you tried giving her a bottle to play with then she'll get use to the bottle. H wants to often hold her own bottle now.

ddas · 26/04/2013 12:48

stacks sorry to hear you're feeling down. May be worth seeing someone to talk it through. The first months with a baby are so difficult as such a life changing experience that so easy to become overwhelmed. Think all of us would be lying if we said we hadn't had days where we just wanted to cry. Hope you had a lovely time at swimming and you feel a bit more cheered up.

hales glad things are better. Lots of babies get a post gastroenteritis syndrome with an intolerance to lactolose. The gp may have been thinking that poo side of things isn't typical of reflux but of course babies can have more than one thing together: reflux & intolerance- poor H. If you weren't happy with his assessment maybe go back to him to discuss it & see what he was thinking as nice to have a good relationship with your gp and feel you can trust them. Important thing is you've found something that works :)

On wednesday had to go back to were we used to live to get dd's jabs as no time to register at new gp yet so mum looked after ds for the day. Feel awful saying this but was really good to get a break from having both of them and get some alone time with dd. luckily she wasn't irritable from jabs so we had a lovely day. Meant yesterday really enjoyed spending the day with the two of them again. Ds starts his new nursery next week for 2 days a week so he's settled before I go back to work in August and think that'll be good for all of us as means can give dd some 1 on 1 time as well. Also joined up to something called busylizzy's here where you can go to unlimited kids classes so hopefully that'll get us out of the house more, meet new people and settle into the new area. Anyone round Guildford have any experience with it?

SkiBunnnnny · 26/04/2013 14:58

Wow stacks that's good to know, thanks. I've been in for two nights already (but only one since op) they said they want to keep me another night but can possibly fly on Sunday. I'm also worried about if I'll be able to hold LO. Since DH has to go back to work as soon as we get home I don't know how I am supposed to look after him if I can't pick him up :(
I hope you do speak to someone about how you're feeling. I think I heard that around 4-5 months is a very common time to get pnd. The honeymoon is over kind of thing.

Hi ginger! My LO has rolled front to back quite a few times but I don't think he was ever trying to. He is coming close to rolling back to front. He will get right over onto his side then arch or push against the side of the playmat with his feet. Sil is taking lots of videos in case he does it while I'm in hospital. He loves tummy time but his favourite is when I put him in front of a mirror so he can stare at himself.

Yay for such a good night mama! Yes I think you're right about the formula it all just happened so fast and I didn't have any other options. I'm not doing very well pumping in the hospital so I really hope I don't dry up... Or get mastitis.
