Well I've just given ds calpol which isn't something I would usually do if I'm not sure he's in pain but I've had enough Blush anyway he was grabbing the syringe and holding into it loving the calpol Hmm no tongue thrusting.....making me think that he will take to weaning well in sixish weeks (eek!)

MaMaPo · 18/04/2013 16:42

Spotty, the ease with which C takes her vitamin drops off a spoon every day makes me think she's not far off being ready to start weaning.

Secondsop · 18/04/2013 17:11

I'm sure Z isn't far off weaning - eg see the scone photo I put on Facebook.

Found out today that my oldest friend from childhood (with whom I now have a somewhat odd relationship), who has an 18-month-old, has never been away for him for longer than 3 hours. In fact there has just been the one 3 hour stretch and the rest of them have been way shorter. Now, I love little Z more than anything in the world but the thought of that makes me hyperventilate somewhat. Am I abnormal?

IsThatTrue · 18/04/2013 17:19

Nope not abnormal seconds

spotty my DS won't stop screeching, not necessarily crying but his insessent screech and fighting sleep. DH has sent me to bed as apparantly I look dead (nice!) but he's sent me with DS (y'know the screeching one?) as he's making the kids pizzas for dinner. So I'm obviously not sleeping. Hmm I asked him if he wanted me to do the pizzas (DH and cooking don't mix) and he said 'no you need to rest' Hmm he's not normally useless!

Is that, last night I did the cooking on my own (unusual as we usually cook together) so I could listen to podcasts and potter away, an my husband was on baby monitoring duty. It was nice to be off duty for a change!

Very fidgety baby during this bedtime feed. Now she's singing and scratching me. Glad I cut her nails today.

IsThatTrue · 18/04/2013 18:45

He's asleep!!!!

He's still in his daytime clothes, in his crib in the living room, but he's asleep!!! (Only 6 hrs of fighting it)

High five baby isthat!

Better day here! Only one calpol, one anbesol and 2 teethas required all day! He has had 3 1-2 hour naps today Shock, this is unheard of! Post jab drowsiness?

Seconds I cannot imagine only 3h to yourself in 18 months. Surely you'd crack up?

The teetha granules go down very very well! Not surprising as I tried them and they seem to be pure sugar!

MaMaPo · 18/04/2013 19:24

Aren't teething granules homeopathic? Time to link to 'Homeopathic A&E' on YouTube! Grin

Seconds, I agree, 3h in 18 months seems a bit bonkers to me. I have already outstripped that - I was out for 4.5 hours the other night when we went to the theatre. It was fantastic!

It reminds me - we had an informal NCT mum's meetup today, and one of the mothers came who often doesn't turn up. I walked in and she was just sat there in the cafe, alone. No baby! The baby is FF and was with her mum. I was taken aback, because I'm BFing I can't quite imagine what it must be like to have a 'day off' like that. 'Only until 5pm!' she said! She was doing things like running chores, getting her hair cut and nails done... sounds idyllic to me. But I do love BFing (and baby C loves it too) so I guess I'll get a day off when she's quite a bit older. Maybe sooner if she changes her mind about taking EBM in a bottle, or if we try a cup.

Have been reading about BLW versus puree... I am very tempted to wait a little longer, skip the spoon feeding, and stick to BLW.

MaMaPo · 18/04/2013 19:25

Oh, meant to hand isthat a very large gin. Here you go - drink that, and go to bed!

Secondsop · 18/04/2013 19:33

Oh willyou I must get some granules. I've been giving Z calpol but it's not really giving him much comfort. And y, I would absolutely crack up if I didn't have some time to myself or even a dinner out with my husband. She said that she had waited long enough for a baby and figured that the other stuff can wait, a sentiment that I understand perfectly but I just don't know how she does it.

SpottyTeacakes · 18/04/2013 19:34

I do a mixture of mashed up food and finger food....so breakfast will be porridge type thing lunch little finger food bits and some fruit purée thing and dinner will be whatever we have mashed as much as possible then a yoghurt. Main meal will be given at lunch time. Obviously I won't go straight in with three meals a day Wink

SpottyTeacakes · 18/04/2013 19:35

My sister has never spent more than four hours away from her 2.5 year old....

Secondsop · 18/04/2013 19:41

mamapo the longest I've done is about 9 hours when I had a rehearsal and then sang in a service and then went to a party with the choir. At that point I was still breastfeeding (although not exclusively) so it was quite hard on my boobs. It was, though, an important part of reconnecting with a non-baby aspect of my life.

Equimum · 18/04/2013 19:43

One three hour break in 18 months Shock. I hadn't had more than ten minutes until DS was 12 weeks, at which point I pleaded DH to take him out for two hours so I could some housework done...but on the hand, I don't think I could leave him all day yet, even if he would take a bottle!

For a baby who didn't sleep much last night, DS has been surprisingly chirpy today. Went to baby playtime at children's centre this morning, then NCT meet-up this afternoon.

We're interested in BLW but DS only 15 weeks so I'm hoping it still quite a way off. What resources have you been reading Mama

Secondsop · 18/04/2013 19:46

Ooh spotty mixture of mashed up and finger food sounds a good way to go. I might try that with Z when we get to weaning as he does seem to want to pick things up and put them in his mouth.

IsThatTrue · 18/04/2013 19:52

I think what I do is BLW wait until they grab food off my plate and let them get on with it Grin I call it 'lazy weaning' I cba to faff about pureeing. It hasn't done ds1 any harm, he eats a far better range of food than dd and she had purrees. although her lack of variety is with carbs so I'm not overly bothered tbh, she's great with fruit and veg

He woke at 7.30, I'm now trying to feed him to sleep.

I shall be drinking Wine later and eating Chinese food DH is about to order! Today has been a not good day!

OP posts:
MaMaPo · 18/04/2013 20:02

You deserve a Chinese, Isthat! And a wine.

Equimum, I borrowed the Annabel Karmel book and have been reading the websites that are on the first page of results when you google BLW. Havin watched my friend's 6mo absolutely demolish sticks of broccoli and sweet potato, I want to do that!

SpottyTeacakes · 18/04/2013 20:06

Mmm Chinese! Yum I will have chicken chow mein and crispy shredded beef please Smile

Ds is only 15 weeks corrected but I think with weaning it's done in actual age because the gut starts maturing once they're born and having milk

We eat a fair bit of risotto and things with mash or jacket potatoes so easy to mush up. I will batch make some things for him to have when we have pizza or takeaway otherwise I think what we eat will be fine. Will have to remember to not add salt!

IsThatTrue · 18/04/2013 20:29

50 minutes to feed to sleep ffs Wine here I come!!

OP posts:
IsThatTrue · 18/04/2013 21:11

And up again at 9. I'm in for a long night!

OP posts:
SpottyTeacakes · 18/04/2013 22:37

We're not that far behind you IsThat....

MaMaPo · 18/04/2013 22:42

night all. I'll be anooing as soon as C decides to stop rolling and grunting like a warthog.

MaMaPo · 18/04/2013 22:42

Snoozing!

Secondsop · 18/04/2013 22:46

I have a full household back in my bedroom now :) Husband, baby, cat.

I have ENORMO-BOOBS at present. Anyone else get this a couple of weeks after stopping feeding? They're not engorged with milk, just massive.

SpottyTeacakes · 18/04/2013 22:57

Ds has stopped going back to sleep after I put him in his cot after a feed. It's really fucking annoying.
