yes mama I feel a lot more relaxed and have been out quite a bit! I went to a mother's group yesterday. We even took DS out to lunch on Saturday and he just slept peacefully with the dummy in. Grin

WeeJo I'll have a look for the hooter hider! I am quite self conscious feeding out and recently DS has become a wriggly nightmare. I end up having to clamp his body between my legs and he pulls off every few seconds. Hmm
He's 19 weeks and on the large side, I haven't had him weighed for a while but he was about 9kg last time and way over the 100th centile. Because of that both the GP and HV said I should introduce solids around 16 weeks. I tried baby rice once and he wasn't keen at all so I left it. But last week I started him on probiotics and had to spoon feed it to him so I mixed it with baby rice and he was very receptive - opening his mouth wide and swallowing rather than spitting it out. I think I'll start him off on pureed veg and fruit for now and wait until 26 weeks before offering anything more fun!

Thinking of those of you with poorly/ non-napping babies.

I'm currently pinned to sofa by a napping baby, who I just know will wake up if I even think of moving him. He seems to have developed a skill for waking repeatedly in the early hours, tanking up, then sleeping from 6.30-9.30, having a play, then having a morning nap!

We're on the 91st for length and 75th for weight...he has to wear dungarees or all-in-ones as trousers that are long enough are HUGE round the waist (oh to have that problem!)

ISpyPlumPie · 16/04/2013 12:40

The doctor said N's ear looks a bit inflamed so she's given him more ABs 'just in case' it's an infection, but the pain could just as likely be due to teething. Bit worried about the fact it's his third lot since birth - think DS1 had turned one before he had any, but maybe we were just lucky with him. I know it's far better than him suffering or risking an infection taking hold, but just a bit anxious the effects on good bacteria etc and also knock-on effect of jabs being delayed yet again.

Main concern atm is that he just doesn't want to feed so not like him. I'm engorged and leaking everywhere. Going to express in a bit now he's finally settled to stop it going to waste. Really hoping that now his calpol's kicked in again he'll have a bit though as whatever the underlying cause without fluids he's going to get v ill.

Sorry for the me-me-me rambling.

ISpyPlumPie · 16/04/2013 13:16

Ok - just expressed 5oz in about 2 mins so was engorged! Only stopped because I'd used a small bottle and it was full. Now to hopefully get some milk into the baby.....

Great news about self-settling Isthat and dummy Seymore.

Helsbelscm · 16/04/2013 14:55

We have a 25th centile for weight & 91st for length this child is a proper strong bean! Am hoping weaning might fatten her up but see no signs of her being ready as yet. Am aiming to wean her a few weeks before she turns 6 months & I go back to work (yuk!). Agree advice is very confusing & apparently different in other countries.

halestone · 16/04/2013 15:10

Ispy sorry your LO is ill, could you try offering your breast every half hour to try and stop dehydration? Or expressing regularly and offering 5mls from the calpol syringe regularly? Sorry if you've already thought of those ideas.

Spotty could you try loosely swaddling your LO whilst feeding to stop being hit? We had to do that with H for abit.

Weejo, i started weaning this weekend only a few spoons of baby rice at tea time after a week i'll start the rice at breakfast and 1/4 of a rusk at teatime i'm stop giving her it when shes not interested though. H is 18 weeks old though and i last got her weighed at 16 weeks and she was 18.2lb. She was definitely ready for food and probably has been for 2 weeks but i've been trying to delay it.

Welcome Hels. I feel your pain about lack of sleep H has never been a good sleeper. She has recently started doing 1 4 hour stint a night though Grin and a little nap afterwards. I'm wondering if this will change now shes started being fully FF.

I'm finding it hugely weird that my Breast milk just seemed to dry up. I expressed before i went to bed (whilst drunk oops) when i woke up i hadn't leaked and didn't feel even slightly engorged. They feel like theres nothing in them. I am slightly disappointed because although i was planning in quitting i didn't get to have my one last feed IYSWIM. If i'd of realised on sunday morning that was going to be her last BF i would of cherished it so much more Confused

ISpyPlumPie · 16/04/2013 15:36

Well, in a bit of a turn up for the books N decided he'd prefer to drink ebm than directly from source! I put the spout from a tommee tippee tip it up cup on a bottle so I could see how much he was having, and he took about 3oz. He did spit quite a lot out, but I'm sure some went down. He then decided he would have boob after all, which sent him to sleep. He'll only feed off one side though (must be something to do with how it affects his poorly ear or where the teething pain is) so think I'll have to keep expressing to avoid uneveness.

Hales - have you decided you definitely want to stop bf but wish last feed had been more special or were you still hoping to feed occassionally? If the former, I can see why you're a bit Sad but every single feed will have been special to H. If the latter, then it might not be too late to re-establish supply - someone on the breast/bottle topic might be able to help. Hope you're ok anyway.

SpottyTeacakes · 16/04/2013 15:43

ISpy that definitely makes it sound like it could be ear pain?

Went to dd's songtime class earlier and ds actually enjoyed it and was smiling watching everyone Smile

halestone · 16/04/2013 16:50

Ispy i had decided to definitely stop and just wish i'd of known that was going to be the last feed but i think like you said it will always be special Grin i'm glad your DS is eating now though Grin

PurplePidjin · 16/04/2013 17:34

Somebody stole my velcro baby and left me a chilled out little dude in his place Hmm

Cookiesandcoffee · 16/04/2013 17:40

I've been away suffering with sleep regression ! I didn't even know it was a 'thing' until yesterday. Grizzly, irritable, refuses to sleep, off her milk. And DD1s behaviour is on another level to match this. Sorry me me me but I try every time to catch up on a thread and fail! >this time I WILL< have missed my mumsnet a LOT!! Confused Going crazy here!!

Hope all mummy's and babies are well Grin

MaMaPo · 16/04/2013 18:16

Welcome back cookies! And yay Pidj - yesterday's chilled little napper replaced today by whingy little girl. Crazy babies.

IsThatTrue · 16/04/2013 18:22

Yay for chilled out dude pidj

DS gets more screechy the more tired he gets, just brought him upstairs because he was manic screeching whoever taught him there were notes that high pitched I want to kill them and he's fallen asleep feeding Hmm bedtimes going to go well isn't it?!

I'm going to leave weaning until at least 6 mo. DS isn't interested in our food yet (has only just seemed to notice food is a 'thing' iykwim) and I cba. So lazy!

itsMYNutella · 16/04/2013 18:47

Hello, sorry I asked about bed times yesterday morning and have only just managed to get back on here. I was out most of the day yesterday, it was brilliant and sunny and I went for a really long walk. Sadly in the wrong shoes! Wish I'd worn my trainers! And I got a bit sunburnt :( I should be old enough by now to know better...

Anyway...

hales sorry about your milk but it helped me appreciate and think about feeding DS and that one day it will end. I try to think of it as something special, but now I will really try harder!

pidj glad your baby is a bit more chilled!

Ispy sorry your LO is in pain... You'll never know if it is ear pain or tooth pain or even neck pain. But I hope he perks up soon!

Yesterday DS had some fantastic naps while we were out, today he didn't nap nearly so much... But we went out for dinner and sat outside and DS slept the whole time! Shock. Now he is very hungry so we are going to try putting him to bed earlier... An hour earlier than yesterday... Lets see what happens!

SpottyTeacakes · 16/04/2013 18:56

I'm feeding ds ready for bed but he's just grinning at me Hmm

Helsbelscm · 16/04/2013 19:18

Hale stone - yay for a stint i am hoping to return to those days!

SpottyTeacakes · 16/04/2013 19:41

Argh my hair is coming out in clumps! Hate this part!

IsThatTrue · 16/04/2013 20:09

DS stayed asleep for 10 mins earlier. Took him upstairs again at 7.30 and he was down by 8. Lets see if he stays put so I can eat! Lol

itsMYNutella · 16/04/2013 20:31

Spotty I have started malting the last couple of weeks, it is driving me mad! Plus I'd rather not loose my hair Hmm...

Well little man is asleep... Lets see how tonight goes... Currently watching a bit of Austin Powers with DP Grin

WillYouDoTheFandango · 16/04/2013 21:19

Spotty I have receded at the temples, it's awful and my bridesmaid hair is an updo. It is very noticeable.

SpottyTeacakes · 16/04/2013 21:27

We're on our second feed of the night already Hmm

Oh no WillYou! I'm sure it's only noticeable to you Smile

MaMaPo · 16/04/2013 21:50

Argh bottle refusing little minx. Making me and my husband unhappy - I don't want to feed her now; he does. I'm sick of throwing away milk.

WillYouDoTheFandango · 16/04/2013 21:51

Well the hairdresser said to the bride we can't have plaits with our updo as some people don't have much at the sides bitch Hmm

WillYouDoTheFandango · 16/04/2013 21:56

J's only been in bed 10 mins so we've not had a wake up yet Grin, teething from hell today and has had his injections too. Dosed him up with calpol and ibuprofen and he still screamed and screamed. Poor baby.

It's not helping that I'm really weepy today. Sobbed watching last weeks 24 hours in a & e and listening through the monitor to DP comforting DS and whacking on calgel

Secondsop · 16/04/2013 22:02

I've definitely lost some hair too. I do have quite a lot of hair but I didn't gain extra luxuriant pregnancy hair. So I'm currently running a net hair loss overall.
