Previous thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/postnatal_clubs/1655656-November-2012-sleeping-through-yet

The answer to the sleeping though question was a chorus of "no"s but there were a few resounding yesses and a lot more keeping quiet because the rest of us would be well jel.

dixie that is exactly what I do, DD goes into the bath and DS goes in with her. He sits in a support thing. She has a bit of time to play while I am dressing him, and they both seem to like it, DD helps by washing DS's toes, and he beams at her!

FatimaLovesBread · 20/01/2013 19:00

M was sick a couple of times earlier, not posset ring but proper gipping sick and some projectile on me. She's then had a 2.5hr nap on my chest and just woken wanting a feed. Sat her upand she's just vommed yellow Confused She's now guzzling away feeding like she hasn't been for weeks.
Will the yellow be bile? I supposed it could be her medicine but we haven't given her that since 11:30am

gardenpixies32 · 20/01/2013 19:10

Dixie I bought two of the bath supports with the hope of the twins sitting opposite each other in the bath laughing away. They HATE it! I have tired it twice and they screamed the house down both times. Ah well, I will wait another another month then try again.

They are yet to graduate from a washing up bowl

TheDetective · 20/01/2013 19:16

Fatima, I think I would probably ring the OOH GP or NHS direct for advice on the yellow vomit. Was it bright yellow? Or just pale? I'm not sure, but I'd probably just ring for advice in the same situation. Rather than worry!

TheDetective · 20/01/2013 19:31

Okay, my moan for today is this:

Cow & Gate, you make your tubs impossible for this left hander to use. Your level off is on the wrong side. I turn the tub around so it is on the right side, but it is still wrong! And the lid of the tub is in the way!

Making bottles is messy because it is not designed for left handers! I'd use a knife to level off, but it wouldn't be sterile. Pffft.

gardenpixies32 · 20/01/2013 19:53

I may be completely wrong here but formula isn't sterile anyway so I wouldn't worry about using a knife. The boiled water is supposed to kill any nasties in the formula.

ValiumQueen · 20/01/2013 19:54

DetectiveI have always used a knife to level off. Washed in hot water first obviously.

fatima I second calling just to be sure.

J awake all day since 10ish. Just cat naps. Took him up to bed at 7, and settled at 7.30. Who knows how long he will sleep...

ValiumQueen · 20/01/2013 19:55

Good point garden ^ wot garden says ^

Izzybuzzybuzzybees · 20/01/2013 19:57

fatima I'd def do as detective says and ring for advice.

It was me who recommended the spectra pump. I love mine and can easily pump a whole feed in very little time.i haven't converted mine to a double as I tend to feed on one side then pump the unused side.

We are doing well with sleeping except during the day. James won't nap at all. He sometimes drops off in his swing but only for half an hour or so :( My dd was the same. He sleeps from 11ish til 5am usually and then goes down til 8am normally. However he has had a few random sleep throughs. I'm not sure if I'm ready to try putting him upstairs without us and not sure whether a monitor would work as we use one for dd still. Would they work alongside each other?

TheDetective · 20/01/2013 19:59

I'm a bit obsessive about sterilising anything that comes in to contact with the powder lol! I don't know why...? Maybe because DP is crap at washing up?!!!

No, formula isn't sterile, but I do worry, because even though I don't leave the water long, you can never be 100% sure it is at the right temperature to kill the bugs. TBH, it is DP making them up that I fret about! And if he sees me using a knife, he will do the same... and if I tell him not to he will get all defensive!

But I am dubious about his bottle making skills Blush.

I might use a knife on the sly. When he isn't in. Or asleep. Grin When he can't catch me!

gardenpixies32 · 20/01/2013 20:00

Twins 16+1 today and P making their bottles for the first time! He is acting like he is splitting the atom!

I should have been a lesbian.

TheDetective · 20/01/2013 20:12

Should have been a lesbian (yy) I often think this.

GT I have just been looking through that website you posted. I am :( as I was hoping to get a miracle cure to make things easier. I do all that shit already!!!! I am the queen of throwing stuff out that isn't being used. I keep nothing. I never leave things lying around, I nag nag nag everyone else to do as I do and put things away IMMEDIATELY (!!), I never leave the post lying around, etc. I showed it to DP to prove I am right in my techniques! I'm not sure if he grasps the fact that someone else has told him the same things I have been telling him for the last 2 years! Hmm

Damn. I could have made that website myself. D'oh. Missed a trick there!

MissMummy1 · 20/01/2013 20:42

Not had a chance to catch up (will do so in the middle of the night) but OMG poonami horror!!! No joke, it filled the legs of her sleepsuit Shock Shock Shock

Funnily she was sitting on dp's knee at the time Smile .... on skype to the inlaws Grin

I've also had it with the courier buggers who have lost my swing. Bought another one (local pick up) on eBay tonight. Bets on the original turning up tomorrow? Ho hum, the new one is the M&P starlite. Not as bargainous as the original swing I ordered but at £30 never used I thought it was worth a punt.

Kyzordz · 20/01/2013 20:46

DS is down for the night, am watching a film and trying to decide if I should wake him for his 10pm feed or let him go until 6am like he has the past two nights (12 hours!)

Also wondering how best to put it to mum that I don't want to wean him anytime soon :/ he's still only doddy.

I struggle to get LO to sleep in the day too, result is a whinging little man! I keep trying to keep an eye on his sleep cues but he seems to go from happy and smiles to downright miserable and overtired SO quickly!!!

DP back at work from tomorrow. He works nights and had 6 weeks off over Xmas so have been used to having someone to plonk ds on when I do night bottles!

Guess at least he's doing it garden but it must be annoying if he's making it seem like a big deal when you have to do it all the time! My dp makes it sound like he's been hard at work sometimes when I ask him to look after Eric whilst I do somethig, and usually it's something I Have to do like the washing or cooking! I shouldn't complain though, he's a good dp most of the time.

Hope everyone has A good night tonight!!

Elizadoesdolittle · 20/01/2013 20:52

mm I've got the m&p starlite and I paid 40 for it nearly new. I thought I got a good deal myself so you got an excellent one. Sorry to hear about the bloody couriers but the starlite is a great swing.

Not had chance to read thread properly so will catch up now.

TheDetective · 20/01/2013 20:58

DO NOT WAKE HIM!! Leave well alone....! At this age, it is fine to leave them to sleep! They will not starve themselves!

I would have woke him if he was under a month... but after that, its fair game!!

Kyzordz · 20/01/2013 21:11

Ok I'll leave him Blush I just thought most people woke them/sort of woke them to feed last thing, is that not a dream feed? Confused. I'm a worrier and thought he might not be getting enough if he goes down to four bottles a day

misslaughalot · 20/01/2013 21:13

Another one here with a non-sleeping baby during the day. She's had a 50 minute and 40 minute nap this morning, but after that its been 15 mins max. Have been watching her like a hawk today for the sleep cues too Sad

I also can't get her to go down for the night any earlier than midnight. Someone said earlier in the thread that babies can't tell the time, well I'd like to disagree! It's like a switch being flicked for her! Any tips on people moving bedtime forward are greatly received. We're going to be starting a proper bedtime routine later in the week once our baby massage classes have started and I'm hoping that incorporating that with a bath and story might start to work?

ValiumQueen · 20/01/2013 21:23

izzy so long as they are on different wave length thingies they will work together. Of course it is worth working out in your sleepy state which baby is yowling first otherwise you end up with two yowling.

I can't remember who it was who bought a crappy PnT on eBay. I did initially, but thankfully it was pick-up only and I noticed how crap it was. Do not let this go! Complain! Did you pay with Pay Pal? If so, you have some protection.

pikz · 20/01/2013 21:26

Miss laugh I also have exactly that problem. Short cat naps during day and won't go to bed before 10.30 despite numerous crying fits as so tired. Will only cat nap until 10.30..:(

gardenpixies32 · 20/01/2013 21:31

Miss I would start the routine and do the same thing each evening. She will soon learn the pattern.

We start with 4oz milk at 5:15, followed by a bath/wash then 2oz more milk, they go in their cots between 6:30-6:45. They seem to have learned the routine as I took them to a friends for a night last week and they were very unsettled and cried a lot. I think this is because their routine didn't happen. Decide what is best for you and DD and start doing it.

gardenpixies32 · 20/01/2013 21:33

I am another one here deciding if I should wake the girls or not. They had milk at 6pm and I usually wake them around 10:30. Last week I fell asleep and didn't wake them and they went 6:45pm-3am. I can't decide if I would rather feed them at 10:30pm or 3am. Would be amazing if they went 7pm-7am! I dream of the day they do that!

ValiumQueen · 20/01/2013 21:36

pikz is baby gonna be in cot again tonight? Are you feeling strong?

J woke at 8.15 with wind, had a huge burp and several little feeds and burps, and fell asleep on me a few times, then woke on transfer. I eventually put him down awake and he is happily chatting away. He is not as fractious as usual tonight, and having a few minutes away from him is helping me prepare for the next round. I am gonna go to bed shortly. Wishing everyone a good night x

BigPigLittlePig · 20/01/2013 21:40

I long for the days of some routine! It's difficult with early babies because although she's 8 weeks old she behaves like a 3 week old....so she still grazes all evening & will only sleep on us me

MM sorry to hear about poonami

Open fire is lit tonight thereby warming the room nicely instead of rendering the room inhospitable for now We'll see what it's like at 4am

gardenpixies32 · 20/01/2013 21:45

Didn't realise your baby was prem Bigpig. My girls were 6 weeks early and I know exactly what you mean.
