Previous thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/postnatal_clubs/1655656-November-2012-sleeping-through-yet

The answer to the sleeping though question was a chorus of "no"s but there were a few resounding yesses and a lot more keeping quiet because the rest of us would be well jel.

Thanks Brockle. The instructions on mine (called Mandanol - given on prescription) just say "1 or more drops to be instilled into each nostril as required" - helpful!

Catbag · 18/01/2013 19:10

My babies do NOT sleep through! Even slightly! Well, River is getting better but Saul SUCKS at it! Ahem.

Love the idea of pimping out the cat!

PetiteRaleuse · 18/01/2013 19:11

I know there are loads more trashy mags but I don't get back to the UK enough to keep up. Shall be stocking up on next trip :)

MadamGazelleIsMyMum · 18/01/2013 19:15

DS started the excellent stints of night sleep while being bf with maybe one bottle of formula a day. I am now bottle feeding during the day and bf first thing, last thing and if he does wake at night. Formula doesn't appear to fill him up anymore, but he is a snacker. A few ounces every hour or 2 between 7am and about 9pm, with a final breast feed to konk him out. He also naps lightly and often but for short periods throughout the day. I think he just suddenly "got" the difference between day and night.

PetiteRaleuse · 18/01/2013 19:15

Just lost it with DD1. She was jumping on my bed the bloody idiot

TheDetective · 18/01/2013 19:24

Do you reckon there is a market for destroyed postnatal bodies out there? Surely some sicko must want this wibbly wobbly mess. Maybe even pay a premium for it.

Gotta earn a crust some way?!

Grin

I'm a little :( there are 4 of us on maternity leave at work. None of the others have shown any interest in meeting up with me, or whatever. I wasn't too bothered as I live in a different town to them. I naively assumed this to be the reason - there are very few colleagues who live where I do. However I just went to go on one of their facebook pages to see if they had put any new pics of their baby on, to find myself deleted. Hmm

Awkward, much?

Won't be covering her arse and fixing her mistakes at work anymore. Oh no. No more Mrs Nice Detective.

Cow. I know its just FB, but I'd never delete a colleague (or wouldn't add them if I didn't like them in the first place) because I don't think it makes for a nice atmosphere, as the other person will be wondering what is so wrong with them that a colleague has deleted them from facebook.

Need to man up and realise that women can be utter bitches, and just take it on the chin.

I still haven't got over the 2 colleagues who deleted me the night I left my old job. I cried leaving that job because I thought I was leaving friends behind!!! And I counted them both as friends!!!

I must be very annoying/horrible IRL! Probably!

KissysUnderTheMisteltoe · 18/01/2013 19:25

Candy we are BF and the longest LO has slept for is 6 and a half hours, which was last week i think, but she is quite a big baby!

We keep her downstairs with us until we go to bed, usually at about 11, she has a feed then goes down to sleep, usually wakes for another feed at about 4-5 then sleeps til about 8ish

Guess I should start putting her to bed early on and getting her into a routine, but I like having her with me in the evenings Smile I know I will probably regret saying this in a few months!

PetiteRaleuse · 18/01/2013 19:26

Blonder lay baby on side and squirt into top nostril. If you do it hard enough the snot should come flying out the other nostril. Repeat on other side. As long as they are just saline drops (ie no paracetamol in them) you can do it as often as you feel necessary. When LO isn't bunged we do it morning and night. When she was bunged up we did it before every feed.

The physiotherapist used about 10 little vials of the stuff every session. Poor baby sounded like she was drowning.

PetiteRaleuse · 18/01/2013 19:30

Ooh the ultimate in insult, a FB deletion Grin

i really wouldn't worry Detective people who do passive aggressive deletions really aren't worth the energy.

GTbaby · 18/01/2013 19:35

Candy can u try just check thenappy for poo, I just pull slightly on the leg and will ONLY change if dirty. Not wet unless its at 6/7ish in the hope he will sleep till 11am. Lol

Will update more about holiday tonight when I can't sleep. Time for dinner.

TheDetective · 18/01/2013 19:37

I have cleared Oscars snot with the force of his own cries so far Grin. Just closed one nostril and let him cry. Did the job in about 4 cries!

Blush Bad mummy!

PR I know, I'm like 'whaterverrrrrrrrrrrr' but my heart is like :( silly hormones!

TheDetective · 18/01/2013 19:38

I sniff for poo. My nose does not let me down! Detective Poo Sniff Grin.

Brockle · 18/01/2013 19:43

I got deleted by my SIL detective so I know how shitty it feels. their loss.

that is useful blonder aren't instructions supposed to be instructive? Smile

I have stopped checking the time when I do nightfeeds. although I do count 6am as a morning feed due to my older early risers Sad

no plans to travel yet due to cost but our usual trip involves a five hour flight into Jordan and then a journey over the border between Jordan Israel and Palestinian west bank which takes three buses, three passport controls and approximately six hours. done it a few times with 2 kids but dreading doing it with 3 Sad

ValiumQueen · 18/01/2013 19:44

candy I have fed all three, and the first two slept through from 6 and 7 weeks. My supply was unaffected. Boy, however, does not like sleep. I doubt formula is the answer. It depends on the baby. At 12 weeks feeding is much much easier. I got so close to stopping this time. Has your LO taken formula yet? We are going to try J tomorrow again, as I need to be sure he will not starve if I need to leave him.

FatimaLovesBread · 18/01/2013 19:48

Talking of travelling, we'll be driving to London in March. Also going on holiday to Majorca in May. We've got the BabyJogger City Mini after reading lots of reviews but I am a bit worried about it getting damaged.

Does anyone want an 8 week ok grumpy girl? I feel exhausted today. She's done nothing but feed and moan with a few naps thrown in. Really don't know what to do with her. My boobs are taking a battering from her getting wound up while feeding. Running a bath for us both with the hope that it will calm her and she'll want an early night fat chance

ValiumQueen · 18/01/2013 19:49

6am is a morning feed.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 18/01/2013 19:58

detective if it was me I would send them a friend request again!! Then they know you have noticed and will feel really bad about it mwwaahahahahaha

TheDetective · 18/01/2013 19:58

6am is most definitely a night feed in our house. Grin

Brockle Ouch! SIL.... that is a hard one. Mind you, it is easier to fall out with family, and make up!

TheDetective · 18/01/2013 19:59

Oh Sophia you wicked woman!!! I LOVE it!!

TheDetective · 18/01/2013 20:01

I've got an 8 week grumper too Fatima! He is a little tetchy this evening, although it is probably just me, getting what he wants wrong!

He is currently happy in his bouncer, bashing toys, kicking his feet and watching The Simpsons. It won't last long!

glendathegoodwitch · 18/01/2013 20:10

Bloody hell!!!! It's taken me 16 hours to catch up on 20+ pages!!!!

pr we love the duck song dd1 has it on iPod and sings it v loudly!!!!

pikz & chunky how funny I call Dottie piccalilli and snuffalopagus too

Other nicknames incl Dottie doodle, dots, buggalugs!!

I'm up for a meet at ikea lakeside!!!

Well I had a rubbish night on Tuesday so had a bad headache and tired eyes throughout my day at uni - Dottie had a good day with daddy but was sick lots so think she was a little off colour!!! Uni was good got our timetables and loads of info and met lots of our cohort - so excited and looking forward to march 18th

Yesterday I had lunch out with one of the managers at work which was lovely and then dh and me went out for a quick meal leaving Dottie with our babysitter - she was really good and I managed not worry too much.

Today I took her into work to see my ward manager to arrange some kit days - because I'm booking my childminder 8 weeks in advance I'd have to pay a retainer to keep the place so instead Dottie is going to go a day then 2 days a week while I earn a few bob doing mandatory study days though I'm leaving after 3 months so there's not much point

Dottie was an absolute angel smiling and cooing while being passed around proud mummy moment

I've noticed Dottie goes down better at night with less false starts if she's slept well during the day???

Still can't get Dottie out of the swaddle and into the grobag cos she flails er arms around like a windmill still - when does the Moro reflex go??

Where do you get sterilising bags from?? Are they disposable or reusable??

Have just ordered a star wrap from the tuppence website - was saving pennies for a swing on eBay but I keep getting snipered :(

ChunkyChicken · 18/01/2013 20:13

candy sorry, DS is ebf. I have known of both ff & bf that are great sleepers and vice versa. There is no "magic trick" unfortunately.

Both DD & DS seem to have had day & night figured out pretty quickly, baring the first couple of days. Both did slightly longer at night than day almost immediately & both ebf. For example when E maybe 4wks old, she went 5 or 6hrs at night once - I remember because I was told not to let her go more than 4hrs due to her weight gain or lack thereof but I refused to set an alarm or schedule her feeds, as I figured, if she was hungry, she'd let me know, certainly at that age. Also, I remember DS did more than 4hrs at again about 4wks, as he'd just had his TT done & I couldn't let him go longer than 3-4hrs.

As for supply, had mega boobs this morning - as I do 1 boob a feed usually, both had done about 12hrs between feeds. Needless to say, there was much leaking. When DD went all night regularly, I still woke at 5am, so would get up & pump. However, with time, both my sleep cycle & my boobs got in sync - after a couple of months your boobs start matching supply with demand any way (rather than relying on hormones + stimulation to produce milk iyswim).

detective have you thought about a travel steriliser? Not an expert, but my friend has one, takes 2 bottles & can do cold or microwave sterilising. And don't forget the Asda baby event started online yesterday, so you might get a reasonable umbrella fold on there new....
Oh and, I'd contact seller & dispute/send back, & if no joy or even then, depending on how bitchy you're feeling give a poor feedback rating.

blonderthanred · 18/01/2013 20:19

Thanks Petite, I did as you suggested and put him on his side which was fine, no protestations. They just squeeze out so don't come out with any force though - one of the reasons I wasn't sure how best to get them to go up his nose rather than just dribble out.

Oh well hopefully we might get a better nights sleep tonight if he can breathe easier. We usually get 4-5 hrs plus 2-3 hrs but the last few nights have been dreadful waking every 1/2 hr and I feel like shit.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 18/01/2013 20:30

Oo detective I have just had an email from kiddicare suggesting they may have pushchairs from £13.50 in "the big sale". Check it out.

ChunkyChicken · 18/01/2013 20:33

Eliza I don't get the pre & post feed weigh. Surely a wee and/or poo during a feed negates it??!!

Sophia like your style Wink

glenda sounds like a good day. :)

Oh and candy it does get easier bfing. Not trying to persuade you if you really don't want to do it anymore, but, for me, as DH doesn't wake, I'd still be doing the lion's share of the feeds, but with washing up & sterilising to worry about. If I had to go back to work sooner than a yr, I wouldn't pump (or certainly not much) & I'd maybe combine or f feed, but once they sleep at all at night or go longer during the day, it seems easier to me to bf. I'm getting DS weighed soon, but he was 11lb 11oz at 7+1, yet has only just started doing 2.5-3hrs during the day regularly the last wk or so (he's 9+5) which has really helped me & made me glad I stuck it out. Obviously though, its entirely what suits you/your baby/your family.
