The answer to the sleeping though question was a chorus of "no"s but there were a few resounding yesses and a lot more keeping quiet because the rest of us would be well jel.

Jealous with all the good sleep ppl are getting Envy I consider a good night when we do a 11pm, 3pm and then 6am. Just curious, are any of those doing long sleeps being breastfeed? If they are I am doubley jealous . LO is 10 weeks now ... I don't wish for 8 hrs ... If be happy with 5! I'll take 5!!!

bigpig projectile vomit in your mouth... Can't help but smile while I imagine and Reinact that in my head! No that hasn't happened to me nor do I wish to ever experience it... Therefore as a precaution I shall keep my mouth shut until she's burped after each feed!!

gt nappies to last a month ... That's a loada nappies!!! Be interested to hear your travelling tips when you get back as we maybe doing a long flight to Florida end of April!

PetiteRaleuse · 18/01/2013 17:33

Detective the ones which pay are the red top weeklies like Chat, Take A Break, Pick Me Up (?) and I think there are a few more.

PetiteRaleuse · 18/01/2013 17:34

Candy formula feeder here :)

ChunkyChicken · 18/01/2013 17:37

That's "naice" BPLP Only a mother's love...

I always thought sleeping through was to do with stomach size/weight as DD didn't sleep through until just over 4mths, when she was maybe 11 or 12lb at most. She had been doing 10-5 for a while before she did 10-7, so once she did that, we started to bring her bedtime forward to 8, so doing 8-7, with a dream feed at 11-11.30 ish. However, DS is no doubt 12lb+ now and only just did 8hrs last night. If it continues, I will be surprised, but as he's not yet 10wks, I'm not bothered. I'd rather he learn to self-settle (which he also did last night) than drop a feed at this point. No point having a baby not feeding for 12hrs if they can't settle back to sleep should when they wake IMO.

Is anyone else planning on travelling with their LO's soon? We have th chance to go to Prague in March but I am not keen. Aside from the expense I am going to have to start pimping out the cat as it is I am worried about equipment, formula and so on. I think realistically our first foreign trip will be October to Nice. Hopefully by that time we will need slightly less formula at least.

The sleeping thing is a total mystery to me. I count myself lucky every single day that P sleeps well. We do formula feed (although I have no idea if this makes any difference) and follow a routine but we really followed P's lead. We need to wake her at about 10:30 - 11pm fr meds so we feed her then. I have absolutely no idea what would happen if we didn't do this.

eliza how long are you going to have to be monitored in this way? I had no idea that weight was such an enormous and ongoing issue for babies. I do now!!

I chickened out of te Baby Cafe today. I was feeling a bit nervous about it and just fancied a wee day in with P. Even with my now not so fabulous norks vq

I'm planning to go to Lancashire late spring in the car. Dreading it more because of DD1 and the dog than for LO.

CandyPop · 18/01/2013 18:04

Ok I'm hoping out on the believe that ff babies sleep longer at night.... I'm thinking of changing to formula once she's 14 weeks old as I find bf really hard so I'm just about hanging in there.

That said, I'm getting use to waking up at 3 and 6 for feeds... I should really not change her nappy as most often enough she hasn't pooed.. But I get paranoid that she might have and I don't want her to sleep in a dirty nappy. If I don't change her nappy the 3am feed would be a quick one as more often than not she only feeds for 5-10mins.

LO is stuck to me today. She won't go down in her basket to sleep.. I'm not complaining.. It's cold out there and she's like my person al water bottle that never gets cold!

pikz · 18/01/2013 18:05

Candy I'm with you. A good night is 3am and 6am. LO is rarely asleep before 10/11pm even with his current hatred of day time naps.

I would kill for 8 hours. Though not sure I'd get away with not pumping for 8 hours.

Passmethecrisps · 18/01/2013 18:05

Oh and P had . . . Wait for it . . . 3 poos today! And 2 of those did not require my assistance. I was starting to wonder if I would spend the rest of my life staring at her arse with a blob of Vaseline on my finger.

Passmethecrisps · 18/01/2013 18:11

Yeah, could it be something to do with supply? If BF babies slept through from 11-7 for example how would the impact on supply? P has always been keen on sleeping even when I was feeding her with express milk. I wonder if it is more to do with the way bottles sort of pour milk into the baby therefore the baby gets more faster??? I don't know. What I do know is that formula feeding is not a cure for poor sleep. My sister is going through a total nightmare trying to get her FF baby to sleep former than an hour or so at a time.

TheDetective · 18/01/2013 18:11

PR That is interesting. I might give this a go tonight. I usually wake at the first squeek. I pop Ewan on to pacify him while I run downstairs to warm feed up. He often doesn't start crying until I get back with the feed. I might try the dummy, as I just assume he has woke because he is hungry. I never thought about any other reason!

We will be travelling to my Dads in the Easter hols. He is sparing no expense. We are going by easyjet Hmm (at least he is paying for that I guess!). I was actually going to post for advice!

I am going to buy an umbrella fold buggy second hand. I don't want to take his more expensive pushchair as I don't want it damaged. If have to take it, I'm bloody bubble wrapping it Blush. My dad is borrowing a travel cot, and possibly a car seat. He may hire a car to fit us all in, in which case he will hire a car seat from the car rental company. The only thing which is bothering me is sterilising. I think I will buy sterilising bags. I have not looked in to this yet though. We are going for 5 days, so I am hoping my dad will get him some kind of bouncy chair so we have somewhere safe for him to be put down and to keep him occupied! The amount of stuff I am thinking of taking means I will end up wearing all of my clothes to travel in. Grin Anyone have any tips for flying and travelling with a 4 month old?!

That reminds me. Must get his pictures done and apply for his passport. Or we won't be going anywhere!

Passmethecrisps · 18/01/2013 18:13

detective my DH was looking into this and I think easy jet give you a choice of two baby equipment items to take for free. Like a travel cot or pushchair

pikz · 18/01/2013 18:16

Detective this is my travelling advice. Take 6 changes of clothes and 6 vests if there is a washer. You don't need more than that. Sterilising bags are far easier and I would say just take car seat on pram. Far easier than both bits. Put him in fro bags and then less need for tons of blankets. This is how I've travelled in the uk so far and how I'm planning to do it to go skiing at Easter.

TheDetective · 18/01/2013 18:18

Oscar varies on the nights. He is FF. He usually has a last feed around 11-12, but last few days we have done it a bit earlier as we have got him up earlier in the mornings. He goes 4-6 hours til his next feed. But then usually back to 3-4 hours from then on. Last night he fed at 10, then 3.30, then 7.30 (that's a night feed folks!!). When I stopped breastfeeding it did not make a difference at first to how long he slept between feeds - he was already a fairly decent sleeper in that he got the whole night and day thing pretty quickly. But the difference it did make was that I could share feeding.

Now if I had a DP who woke, it would be great. But I don't. So it isn't all that great. I spend the feeds that DP does half awake, and when I do fall back asleep I end up waking to find DP asleep with the baby. He just can't do the transfer. Which is odd. Because 95% of the time he goes in for me. The only time he doesn't is after the first morning feed, sometimes he won't, but he will stay sleeping on me. But the last feed and the night feed he goes down no issues. DP needs a kick up the arse Grin. BTW. I am up for an hour on average for the feeds, settle and transfer.

So no, FF isn't the cure for a baby who does not like sleep.

And I am sick of having a baby that stinks of DP's sweat when I rescue him from DP's clammy clutches.

TheDetective · 18/01/2013 18:24

pass Yes, I checked with easyjet and can take 2 baby items! Was just going to take the pushchair, and car seat only if my dad doesn't get it sorted.

pikz That isn't a bad idea. My Dad lives in a sort of apartment complex thing. There is a washing room, but it is for all apartments. I seem to remember him saying that there is a set day for washing, so will have to make sure we can use the machine, or we would be stuffed!! Can you believe in an apartment that cost £750,000, you have to share a washing machine?! WTF is all that about? Dad said it is common in Switzerland!

Don't really want to take the pram frame, as I am so worried about it getting scratched or dented. We either want to sell it or use it again, so am quite careful with it Blush. We want a cheaper umbrella fold anyway, for using on muddy walks that I don't mind it getting beaten up. I've seen a few which I like so am keeping an eye on gumtree/eBay etc. If I have to take it, it is being bubble wrapped on the frame for sure!!!!

Thank you!!

CandyPop · 18/01/2013 18:31

pitz ur going skiing this Easter?! Super jealous! We did briefly contemplate this and mother in law even offered to come with to help look after LO whilst we ski but I just it was too much of a bother and finally decided to skip this season :(q I love skiing... Would go as far as picking skiing over a hot holiday!

Any recommendations for a travel pushy chair?

TheDetective · 18/01/2013 18:32

I would like some eBay advice! I have just had 2 bad experiences of items being in crap condition when I received them.

I wrote the first one off as my mistake, and just threw the offending item in the bin. It did say on the listing that there was light bobbling (it was a coat for Oscar) but I assumed that light bobbling meant like under the arms, not all over the coat. It was horrible! I wouldn't have sold it, or put it on a baby! Looked very shabby. Anyway, like I say, I just threw it out and put it down to my own error.

But I got 2 babygrows which arrived yesterday, and they are in crap condition too. They were described as great used condition. I have the exact same grows in the size smaller. I was able to compare them, and one of them is supposed to be white with colours, and it is grey and dull. Again, I wouldn't have sold them in that condition, or I'd of just described them as used. Definitely not great!

Would you bother contacting the seller or just leave it? They were only £2.20, so no great expense, but I'm still a little disappointed and annoyed.

TheDetective · 18/01/2013 18:38

Oh, and thanks for the mag names PR!

blonderthanred · 18/01/2013 18:42

Eliza I would go to the bf clinic. Ask your hv if they can weigh E at a different time - I don't know how it works in your area but they should want to make it easier for you to attend the bf clinic so maybe they can help arrange something? Mine have never done the pre- and post- feed weighing (thank gawd) which I thought was discredited as a way of measuring calorie intake although I guess it gives an idea of how much milk is going in. How much was it out of interest?

Now does anyone have any advice on administering saline nasal drops? Should I lean him back? Try doing it in his sleep? Any tips welcome!

blonderthanred · 18/01/2013 18:43

PR/Det you missed my personal faves, That's Life! and Love It!

Brockle · 18/01/2013 18:50

evening allSmile I would prob just give a crappy rating on the item detective at least it warns others. I got the mothercare basic artillery which lasted 3 years and three major trips abroad. the journeys were brutal for a pram but it was fantastic. about thirty quid I think. we had ours in the hold do we could use it to and from the door of the plane.

snuffly Y on my chest at the mo. How effective are saline drops?

Brockle · 18/01/2013 18:52

blonder the instructions on calpol drops are to lie baby flat with head to the side foreach nostril

Brockle · 18/01/2013 18:54

stroller not artillery doh!

applepieinthesky · 18/01/2013 19:02

DS is FF and not sleeping through. He goes to sleep at 10-11pm then wakes at 3 and 7 (ish). DP usually does one of the feeds and I do the other.

We are going to Ibiza in May with my family and possibly Belgium later in the year so DS can meet his cousin for the first time. It's a mission trying to work out what to take, what you can and can't take on the plane etc. I need to make a list of questions I have and give Thomas Cook a call.
