We've been up since 3 I hot 20 mins while DP got ready for work but I'm hoping for a post-hv nap

FriendofDorothy · 15/01/2013 10:19

We had a bad night with Edward feeling about every hour and a half but only for 10 mins.

The pay off this morning though is a lazy start to the day as we are still in bed and what I think are proper smiles from Edward.

WillYouDoTheFandango · 15/01/2013 10:53

Well we have a fatty! 21.5oz gain in 2 weeks! He's perfectly on the 25th centile Smile

2blessed · 15/01/2013 12:35

Ds slept from 7-3.30 and then from 9-12. Does anyone else's lo play with the boob before latching on? I know he is hungry but he always spends a good few mins licking/patting/taking it in and then releasing it before he.feeds...

SpottyTeacakes · 15/01/2013 12:43

I have devil baby today. Really thought the breast feeding was going well and today I hate it again.

pmgkt · 15/01/2013 12:57

Have I got the youngest child to be in a car accident. 3 weeks old and someone has just gone up the back of us.

SpottyTeacakes · 15/01/2013 13:01

Oh pmgkt hope you're all alright? Were they travelling fast?

You must be shaken up, ds was only 26 weeks gestation so I don't think he was bothered by ours Wink

utopian99 · 15/01/2013 13:47

Pmgkt are you and lo okay? What a horrible thing; this thread has had more than its fair share of accidents.. If it helps my mother was in an accident the same as yours when i was a few months old and it didn't cause harm to me. (there are those who might disagree! Hmm)

HV came this morning and O has gained 12oz in 8 days! Little chunkster. He is currently half asleep, singing his milk song to my boob.. DH is chopping up trees and DM is cleaning the whole house! I can cope with motherhood if it's like this. Grin

pmgkt · 15/01/2013 13:53

We were stopped at a roundabout and they thought we would go so not fast. When ds1 was 10 weeks old we had someone go up the back of us on the dual carriageway which was worse.

ellliebelle · 15/01/2013 14:44

pmgkt how horrible hope your all ok. 2blessed ds messes at the boob before most feeds. Very frustrating especially if im out and/or leaking everywhere :(

SpottyTeacakes · 15/01/2013 14:46

After another four hours of either crying or feeding ds is finally asleep

Bellaboo123 · 15/01/2013 15:06

Hope you're both ok pmgkt - how horrid.

I'm going out for dinner with a friend tonight without baba! Eeek my mum is having little one. Nervous about doing something for me lol!

Had my 6 week check - very uneventful!

pmgkt · 15/01/2013 15:07

Ah spotty you are having a real hard time aren't you.

I decided to stop feeding Edward today. He has had 3 bottles now today and does seem more content but what is worrying is that my boobs aren't feeling hard, leaking or painful so what would he have eaten if I was feeding him. Normally they recommend that you drop one feed a week to avoid problems but I think it will be easier than that this time. I do have a pump so I can relieve that way or by giving him a little top up without doing full feeds to encourage milk.

SpottyTeacakes · 15/01/2013 15:16

Hope you have a good time Bella :)

I keep thinking about mix feeding but then something always stops me, I should stop moaning if I'm not going to do anything about it Grin it doesn't help that dp is so unsupportive Hmm

Have I made up the word unsupportive as it's got a red line under it?! Bloody baby brain

Secondsop · 15/01/2013 15:42

Gosh pmgkt hope you are all ok after the accident.

Re the feeding, my boobs weren't engorged or painful or leaky either after I switched to mainly formula. It's only now that I'm regularly expressing that they get engorged or lumpy or leak or feel painful (well sort of pricky tingly). I reckon my little Z was taking hardly anything from the breast before (which is why he didn't grow), and my boobs responded accordingly (and have also responded now by bucking their ideas up a bit now that I'm expressing and regularly emptying the breast). He's actually breastfeeding a lot better / more efficiently now that he's also getting formula and has built himself up a bit.

MaMaPo · 15/01/2013 15:54

Oh pmgkt, glad you're ok. And spotty - sounds like another tough day.

This is massively jinxing myself but I have seen a pattern emerge over the past 2 days - a big sleep from midday or 12.30pm until 3.30pm. Yesterday I woke her at half three as I had to go out, but today she woke up herself. Coupled with more 4 hour sleeps overnight than I've ever seen, I will be happy if this is indeed a pattern instead of me with wishful thinking.

Hmmm - haven't heard anything about 6 week check and she's 6 weeks tomorrow. Should I phone the clinic? Given my experience of the community midwives I think I will. Ill be interested to see how much she's grown in a fortnight. Do they also check length?i think I have a tall girl.

SpottyTeacakes · 15/01/2013 15:56

MaMaPo six week check is with the GP in my area

Secondsop · 15/01/2013 15:58

mamapo I booked our 6 week checks in myself - wasn't summoned for it in any way. Mine was with the GP. When you ring up, say it's for the postnatal checks and not just a normal appointment as it takes longer than a normal appointment and some GPs have a specific time in the week when they like to schedule them.

Z has been down for a nap in his carrycot since about 2.15pm, apart from a brief cry and cuddle after he spat up.

MaMaPo · 15/01/2013 16:01

Hmm - the aim at my GP said postnatal check is at 8 weeks, and I was booked in for 10 weeks as that was the first appt! If I didn't have a 6 week check with my consultant obstetrician next week I would be a bit concerned with that.

When was your HV check?

MaMaPo · 15/01/2013 16:01

Oops - admin at the GP

SpottyTeacakes · 15/01/2013 16:11

My form from the GP says it's a 6-8 week check and it came through automatically, we have a good GP surgery though and I could phone now and been seen today if need be...

HV saw us after we'd been discharged from hospital, so two and a half weeks and usually wouldn't see us until 3 month check (but weight gain concerns mean we've seen her more).

If you look in your red book there is a section for the 6-8 week check so you can see what it is they actually check :)

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 15/01/2013 16:15

My postnatal check is with the gp at 6weeks. Ethan has an 8wk check then straight for jabs :(

Think I'll take him to baby clinic to get him weighed next week although I'm sure he's growing, I still panic about weight gain.

After a hard night we had a good day today. He was up at 6 and we fed laying down and dozed until my alarm went at 7.30, I got the big dcs breakfast and ce back upstairs at 8 to get Ethan up and dressed and fed again. He stayed awake until we were back from the school run, fed again, stayed awake in his swing for 30 mins and went to sleep at 9.30. He woke at 12.30 and fed then back to sleep until 2.30 when he fed again and we got ready for the school run!

I think I've worked out a hard night means easy day and easy night means hard day. Tbh a hard night is easier to deal with as I'm not trying to work at the same time as feeding every 40 minutes!

pgmkt sorry to hear about your accident. Glad you're ok though.

2blessed · 15/01/2013 16:24

Hope you're all ok pmgkt

I have to book my own 6 week check. Hv also told me to get bcg done asap.

Lo sleeping again so trying to grab a rest until 6 if poss. Got loads of housework to do but have been in quite a bit of pain by my cut/wound so leaving it again.

ISpyPlumPie · 15/01/2013 16:43

We're meant to get appts directly from GP for our 6 week check but hadn't heard anything so rang today. Aparently we'd been missed due to having hb - bit Hmm about that as he's been registered with the practice (and already seen Dr & received NHS card), and both the HV and Registry Office had been notified so the community MWs had clearly been telling people. Oh well, it's hopefully sorted now and she did say it can be anytime between 6 and 10 weeks.

pmgkt - must have been scary. Hope you're all ok.

Bella - have fun tonight.

Great news about weight gain for lots of people today too.

halesball · 15/01/2013 17:24

Pmgkt, sorry to hear about your accident, hope your all well.

Spotty i've given H 1 bottle for the past 3 days but none today. I'm like you i can't make my mind up properly what i want to do about feeding.

Glad to hear some of your LO's are starting to possibly (fingers crossed) establish routines. Hope you all have good nights tonight.
