Seymore i would say a wrap/ring sling/mei tai would definately last longer than a baby bjorn they distribute the babies weight better and dont cause back ache etc i could in theory still carry my dd1 in awrap and she turns 6 tomorrow :)

MaMaPo · 14/01/2013 00:21

Seymore, if you are after a more structured carrier, we have the ErgoBaby and find it excellent - very comfortable. More so than my wrap sling...

Just had a 3.5 hour sleep thanks to husband taking the lady feed. Even if I get no more sleep tonight, I've still more than doubled what I had the night before. Here's to positive outcomes for everyone who's been dreading evening!

Stacey - thanks for the pep talk! This is deffo the week for it.

MyDaydream · 14/01/2013 00:38

I'm in dreading the night zone too although he's fairly good most of the time. I agree with wondering how DP sleeps through every noise, and I wake up in a panic sometimes because I thought Elijah was in with us but I'd already put him back in the crib. If I could cut out the worry I'd sleep a lot better.
DP is back to work tomorrow and getting a bit worried although I have done most of baby care myself for the last fortnight, I'll just miss him running to get me stuff and taking over when I'm getting frustrated. Trying to make plans to keep me occupied through the week but struggling a bit. Can't decide if it's too early to go to parent and baby groups since he'll just sleep through everything and I'm quite shy so might not talk to anyone.
Can I just ask did anyone else's skin break out at this stage? Over the last couple of days I seem to be turning into a giant spot I look bloody awful at the minute.

SpottyTeacakes · 14/01/2013 00:45

Ds just slept for four hours!!

MrsMiller81 · 14/01/2013 01:04

Ditto for me with dd Spotty! Didn't think she would when she screamed inconsolably from her last feed at 8.30 til 9pm - it was Dh and his air conditioner sound app which stopped the crying instantly!

Although I am still dreading rest of night now.... So pleased it isn't just me who has nighttime dread! I too thInk it is a lack of control.

Honey - I too would be pissed off if Dh did that - yanbu!!

Hales - I don't hate bf in terms of actually doing it but do hate how restrictive it feels when I'm shattered and C is hungry only I can sort it at the moment which is one of the reasons we would like to be able to combination feed although my ds would never take a bottle so am a little concerned C will be same!

So sorry you're having a rough time eggs - I will be repeating mantra that it will get better!

My Dh returns to work on Weds and I'm feeling same too MyDaydream - I think I will have to get out of house to make sure I don't get depressed....

Loving your positivity Stacey - I need a bit of it!!

Am going to attempt to put C back in Moses Basket now.

2blessed · 14/01/2013 01:13

Yay! spotty!

Lucky that ds seems to spend most of the day sleeping. He's been in his moses basket since 10 and ive just come into the bedroom to see if I can grab a bit of sleep. Must get better at sleeping when he does.
I had a really painful few bf days last week and bought nipple shields which made such a difference. Then midwives came and sorted out my latch and have not used them since. These 2 midwives don't like/recommend shields but they were an absolute life saver.

SpottyTeacakes · 14/01/2013 01:13

Dp gave ds a bottle of expressed milk but I'm still wide awake dp huffs and puffs all the way through it I don't know why he offers to do it when he just seems pissed off about it!! Think ill just do it myself next time. Then he just plonks ds in his Moses without trying to settle him or anything first, which is mean as ds gives the best cuddles Grin I'm having one now! Better put him down as he'll probably be up in an hour Hmm

Clarella · 14/01/2013 01:16

honey you are NOT being unreasonable - I'd have been quite cross. hope you're ok chick.

yes growth spurt fractiousness here so dreading night too.

hi bubbless - your birth sounds very similar to mine. emcs as Georges heart rate kept dropping. the first 2 weeks were quite hard and a section is quite draining. don't try to achieve anything other than feeding eating and sleeping. 5 weeks tomorrow and definitely turned a corner but week 3 and 4 were also better. also don't forget those pesky hormones making everything seem worse - it does get better but do seek help if you need it.

for a long term structured backpack type sling that also does from newborn I can't recommend the boba 3g enough. will last longer than baby bjorn as back pack too plus toddler foot straps. more for out and about though.

in other news.....

gripe water fell in bin beside bed in night. I forgot. bin was diligently emptied for bin men. second bottle has just fallen randomly off bedside table. ds still asleep!!! phew.

Dh has bought a men's under the eye dark circle roller brightener thing Hmm

we're finally turning to white noise....

Clarella · 14/01/2013 01:18

by the way if anyone feels like they're slipping a bit this website and help line are amazing:

WillYouDoTheFandango · 14/01/2013 02:10

Hi all, DS just did a 4.5 hour stint Shock unfortunately I spent it bobbing in and out of bed expecting him to wake up. Tonight is his first night in a sleeping bag, he seems to have whine himself up by kicking off his blankets before. Long may it continue!

Thanks got relactation advice, shall look into it

Honey YANBU what a knob asking if you mind when it's already a done deal.

halesball · 14/01/2013 02:26

H has been fussing and crying on and off my breasts for the last hour, at 1st i thought it was wind so tried winding her it didn't work. Then i was getting out of bed to go and pour her a bath when i realised she liked the bed bouncing, so decided to try her in her bouncer 1st shes now sat not crying in her bouncer. I'm made up as i feel like i'm starting to be able to settle her better and that i'm learning more about her.Grin Glad to hear more of you are having better sleeps.

Clarella · 14/01/2013 02:33

hales that's great - it's fab when you start working out what they want!

sometimes I'm finding when g is very fussy and grumpy at the breast he's actually over tired - seems like he wants more but if we rock him and bob him in our arms he goes sparko in a couple of minutes.

big prob I'm now having is that he seemed to wake in night more due to trying to crank out farts, but gets upset, rather than actually hungry anyone else find this?

WLmum · 14/01/2013 03:08

Thanks hales, already doing those things nut appreciate it Nyway. X

halesball · 14/01/2013 05:12

I find that H wakes up alot in the night as she needs to fart or mostly she needs to poo.

Well i was chuft before because i thought i was starting to learn stuff apparently i know nothing. After 10minutes she screamed, i changed her nappy, she screamed i breastfed her, she screamed. I winded her she screamed and screamed. I've just give her 4oz of EBM and winded her shes now in het bouncer wide awake and gurgling serves me right for thinking i'm getting to know her. I know i had a good night and day yesterday, but i wish i hadn't it gave me a false hope for tonight. We've been awake since half 10. I'm repeating it will get better it will get better. I just wish there was some sort of consistancy or pattern in her waking and sleeping

Stacks · 14/01/2013 05:31

Oh hales they love to keep you guessing. It will get better though.

T is ba having better tonight. Feeds at 10, 1 and 5 about half hour each time, and transferred back to bed well. I'm with those of you though that find farts/poo the wake up trigger. T will spend 30 minutes kicking his legs with his eyes closed before waking up properly for a feed.

Random comment, but before Christmas I bought myself a dressing gown jacket from M&S for £15. It's hip length, nd great for night feeds and co sleeping. I keep it on all night when it's cooler so I don't freeze with the covers only to my waist. When feeding I tuck T inside to keep him warm too.

halesball · 14/01/2013 06:18

Still awake here my mantra has changed to sleeeep heidi sleeeep! And i'm one of those bad co-sleeping mums we didn't know till the HV came that if the baby was in our bed that we weren't suppose to put our quilt over her. So shes always been under our quilt Shock

SpottyTeacakes · 14/01/2013 06:49

At least you know now Hales Smile

Ds went to sleep before half right woke at 12:30, 3:45, and 6:45 Shock definitely won't happen again!

We have snow and it's five miles to the main road so not sure if poor dd can go to nursery

pmgkt · 14/01/2013 06:58

I had a great night (sorry) dd bottle at 9, woke for a feed at half 2, then again at half 6. That is very manageable. I agree with whoever said about wind waking them and farting. We get that too, but cos he is so small he can't use sleeping bags yet and his blankets are tucked in tight so he can't wriggle much to ease the discomfort more than 2lb to go so its going to be a while.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 14/01/2013 07:25

How much are they supposed to weigh for a sleeping bag? I never realised that they had to be a certain weight! I remembered to turn Ethan's mits on his sleep suit over last night do he doesn't have cold hands this morning. Go mummy! Lol

Oh and we have snow :(

pmgkt · 14/01/2013 07:55

All the ones I have say 8 13, and they are lots of different makes. That said I have read somewhere that as long as their head can't go back through its fine. Either way we are quite a way off that.

Mitts, or rolled over sleeves ends ate great. Edward wakes himself scratching his face so they prevent him hurting himself too.

Got hv today, hopefully he is back up to birth weight now.

Barbeasty · 14/01/2013 07:58

We have just a tiny bit of snow this morning, but more is predicted.

I think we're at a growth spurt, as A woke up and fed pretty much every hour last night from when we went to bed at 9.

And we all have cough/ cold again. Oh well.

I'm going to look at that reflux article as A is always being sick. Horrid curdled milk, even some time after a feed.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 14/01/2013 08:17

pmgkt mine all just say 0-6 months so I'm not being too thick! Lol they are hand me downs though so maybe the size thing is recent?!

Ethan was 8lb 8 when we first put him in at 4 weeks.

WLmum · 14/01/2013 08:36

O think my grow bags say 7.5lbs min weight.

MaMaPo · 14/01/2013 08:41

Tiny bit of snow here too.

Our house was pretty cold last night and C kept kicking off her blankets, so it's a sleeping bag tonight (need to go shopping). Pmgkt, my little one kicks and squirms heaps but it doesn't seem to alleviate her discomfort. She was unbelievably loud from 4am today. But she's sleeping through it (lucky, cos we aren't).

A good night's sleep! C woke at 12, 4 and 6, but stupidly I responded to her when she was a bit noisy at 2, got all awake and ready to feed, then took a while to get back to sleep when I realised I had jumped the gun. Still, loads better than she's been in a while, and she slept in her little cot instead of her pram moses basket. What a good girl! I think I haven't been dressing her warmly enough at night and so last night he had a woollen cardy on too - I wonder if that helped?

With sleeping bags, do they just have their onesies on over their arms?

EggsMichelle · 14/01/2013 09:04

I think someone swapped my baby again! After a horrendous yesterday of sleeplessness, projectile vomiting and tantrums, we went for a drive to try to calm him down, transferred him to his Moses basket from car seat still asleep at 22.45, and woke for feeds at 1.15 and 5.00. Woke up about 20min ago!

He slept in a fleecy sleep suit with blankets (was too scared of waking him up to put him in his sleeping bag) and gave his gripe water at every wake up, so think both these things improved his sleep. The gro bag website and the label on my asda sleeping bag say 8lb8oz. Stacey think I will put mits on his hands tonight, they are Ivey cold.
