I didn't watch the home made thing because making stuff bores me to tears as I have zero patience with things like that, it's precisely why I don't cook Grin Sorry craft fans.

Yes, the endless YBF is a killer. We are now watching Benidorm fucking ER Grin But to be honest I'd watch any old crap that made her happy, because that makes me happy. Also I should say that she also watches tons of documentaries.

Kirstie: well, I think however shrill, she seems to give a damn about stuff, hence the forays into politics. Whatever one thinks about the politics. She strikes me as someone who would really stick up for you if she was your friend, and be solicitous also. She is quite interesting on what it's like to be a mother of boys (evidently she tries hard on this front) and ditto with her stepchildren. I suppose liking someone on the box is a gut instinct thing (just like in real life). Gosh Arti, you are not far off re: B-day! May is soon.

spotofcheerfulness · 15/01/2013 21:36

Hello from the vomitorium. Hot on the heels of the pox, we have the noro. Great joy. I had it badly last night, but am feeling a bit better now. We've had to cancel B's op tomorrow as a) he's still not right after having D&V over the weekend and b) I wouldn't be allowed through the doors as I'm still infectious. Just so fed up with it all - feel hemmed in and not in the "hello 2013, let's go out and get jobs" frame of mind I had hoped for.

Ho hum. On the Kirstie front - I do watch a fair bit of LLL and find the whole chat with Phil thing vaguely diverting. But i do feel that she lives in such a different world from the people she helps, it can come across as quite patronising. It's not her fault she's posh - but it does mean she is quite hard to warm to.

Maybe in the same vein - I was listening to Desert Island Disks from my sick bay last night, and and Anya Hindmarch was one of the guests. She reminded me of her a little bit in a Thatcherite kind of way. Not someone I'd be in a hurry to sit next to at a dinner party.

ShadyLadyT · 15/01/2013 21:57

Oh Spot, so sorry to hear of your rotten luck. Poor little B as well. My two are quite postviral listless after the pox so I do wonder whether the boys' resistance is low (and yours after looking after them).

It's interesting you say that she's hard to warm to because she's posh. I hear this view a lot and if you don't mind me probing, it always shocks me a bit, just as much as if someone said 'I can't warm to her, she seems common'. I tell you what though - I heard A. Hindmarch and I thought she did not come across at ALL well. And I hardly ever recoil from people. Do get well soon.

DeidreBarlow · 15/01/2013 22:14

Kayz I'm sorry to hear your sad news

Spot, I hope health wise you all pick up in the next few days. You have had really rotten spell lately.

DH has for man flu, so as rubes would say his neck has been seriously wound in Grin

Kirsty doesn't actually bother me one way or the other. I did watch the craft thing and she irritated me putting gold leaf onto pears for place settingsShock. I mean really who would do that? But I generally feel like that about lots of craft things because I'm rubbish at it. I reckon she would be a bit of a giggle though and significantly less posh after a few wines!

spotofcheerfulness · 15/01/2013 22:33

I think I expressed myself poorly there. I have nothing against people who were born into the upper classes or wealth. As I say, no one chooses the circumstances they're born into. And I went to a private school, so I have had plenty of well-off friends (not myself, I should hasten to add - we got in free as my mum worked there!).She is very jolly hockey sticks (but then so is Stephanie Flanders, someone I really like). So it's not that either.

It's more a feeling of smuggery that comes across. And I just don't feel her as very warm. Considering she makes her living with consumer programmes aimed at the masses and dispensing advice, I just think she comes across a bit "lady of the manor".

SummerLightning · 15/01/2013 22:47

I like her! She is posh but in a nice way i think. I think she'd be good for a few drinks ( though I'd probably have to frequent a wine bar rather than my usual real ale pub). However I agree with arti on her politics. I had forgotten about question time which I saw her on and she was a bit cringeworthy. It's the same with the nct thing. It's like she thinks she's noticed something that no one else has - that the nct has an image proble with the too pro natural birth breastfeeding agenda thing I mean come on everyone including the nct knows that. And she comes across as very ranty and a bit ill informed. But I love lll (especially Phil).

ShadyLadyT · 15/01/2013 23:19

I haven't seen Kirstie on QT, maybe it would've annoyed me. I only watch now and then these days, because it tends to rile me to no good end. I don't find her cold, though, Spot - but agree that coldness is vvvv offputting. I get the impression Kylie is a bit cold as I said the other week. And that really gorgeous bird who presents Strictly, married to Vernon thing. And H. Grant. And E. Hurley.

Anyway, by contrast, I find Phil adorable because he seems to be the kindest man ever. DP is jealous and tries to say mean things about him Grin

Well, I'm typing this from the dorm! DD1 is asleep beside me, DD2's in the cot. How did DH find the snip, SL? You made me laugh about the 'no shit Sherlock' element to Kirstie's campaign. Still, all that malarkey's always going to divide people . There's an interesting situation near me, vaguely related but not really. There was a cottage hospital in Chipping Norton, my nearest town. (4 miles), where you could give birth. Midwife only unit, nearest hozzies in Oxford (20 miles) or Banbury (14 or 16 miles) - a long way in case of emergency, but hey, plenty of ladies seemed to love it...others loathed it. The usual! Anyway, the lovely old building got shut and a swishy new one was opened by David Cameron, our MP. But the maternity unit has abruptly closed after two midwives were sacked for whistleblowing about poor standards of care. It's all a bit of a mystery. Hey, who knows why I am regurgitating local news Grin I think I am fascinated by the unit cos it's so far from what I'd want. But also cos it's on the PM's doorstep.

Rubena · 15/01/2013 23:38

I like Kirsty. Would love to have wine with her. Love Phil.
Caught up on CBB and Still really like Rylan. Grin Beans - why the change? Perhaps I just really relate to him as he's funny like my fellow crew Winkand genuine. Only a few shirt weeks and ill be holding down 3 jobs! Grin

Rubena · 15/01/2013 23:39

Sorry to hear all the illness spot and good luck to DP with the interview. Hope ds2 is ok for GA soon. x

spotofcheerfulness · 16/01/2013 07:42

Ugh. DP awake all night vomiting. Kids up at 5.30. 1 hr sleep. Today's gonna be a long 'un. So hope T doesn't get it. Chances are slim though...

Indith · 16/01/2013 08:18

Oh Spot :( How utterly rubbish.

I like Kirstie in LLL, I think the advice she gives is pretty sound. I do NOT like her in her crafty homemade home "oh it is so cheap to do your house up yourself, all you need is a month of lessons each with a glass blower, a mosaic artist and a welder. A forge you can hire for 6 months and a workshop" because frankly on that one she is talking out of her arse.

I've not seen her trying to be political so I can't comment.

beans37 · 16/01/2013 08:36

Oh Spot, horrid. Hope T manages to keep himself clear of the norobastardvirus.
I'm in the Kirsty camp, but DH loathes her good and proper! I went to school with Phil's sister. She is lovely too. She found out after I'd left that I'd been bullied and apparently went nuts at a couple of the bullies. Good bird. We weren't even very close. I dreamt about said bullies last night. Wasn't nice.

Rubes, am back on Rylan again, I just do find he talks about himself incessantly, albeit amusingly. Find Lacey incredibly irritating. Loving how awful Heidi and Spencer are. Keep them in to cause hell, I say. Would be so dull without them! Missed it last night though. Went to bed early. Good thing too, both girls up in the night. Grrrr. Then welcomed the day at 6am. Put on Peppa in our bed and went back to sleep til 7. Brilliant. DH sadly got up and left for work. Hahahahaha!

Wow it's cold. Just want to spend all day in bed.

ShadyLadyT · 16/01/2013 08:46

Spot, that sounds utterly utterly hideous. One and only comfort is that Noro doesn't usually last long (although I do see that 24 hrs of chucking up seems like an eternity)

How are the sinuses Rubes? Any further thoughts about next weekend? I have still only seen a fraction of CBB but I just heard about Lucy saying all social security benefits should be withdrawn. She sounds great Hmm

Grin at hiring a forge for 6 months.

Going home later. I will be fine once I'm back and I have stacks to do, but leaving is always horrid.

ShadyLadyT · 16/01/2013 08:50

I meant Lacey not Lucy. Hey Beans.

ShadyLadyT · 16/01/2013 08:50

ArtigeneAuberchoke · 16/01/2013 09:07

News flash: I was discussing Kirstie with DH over breakfast (you may think we would have better things to discuss, but no). I found out he has sat next to her at a dinner party! Apparently she was good friends with a good friend of his at uni. He said she is actually a little shy and awkward and comes out with some odd things as a result, but overall he thought she wanted to be friendly and nice and just wasn't sure how. Their mutual friend says Kirstie is a very loyal friend who has seen her through some bad times. So I take it all back, Lady you are a better judge of character than I! I agree with you on Hugh Grant though, he comes across as a twat.

Am sat in antenatal clinic. I'm having to have fortnightly BP checks. It is a bore.

So sorry to hear about the spreading noro Spot. Fingers crossed that T fights it off. Clean things with bleach' tis the only chemical to kill it. Those hand gels don't kill noro. It says that on a poster in front of me right here in the antenatal unit.

Indith · 16/01/2013 09:22

When ds2 and dd had it we had a spray bottle and after cleaning the sick bowl out left the tap running, washed hands, prayed and wiped tap and then turned it off so no picking germs back up again and also sprayed and cleaned the light pull in the bathroom and stuff. Must have done some good as ds1 didn't get it and though dh and I both felt queasy for a few days we didn't throw up either. We drummed proper hand washing into the kids too.

Rubena · 16/01/2013 10:05

Deary me Spot. Not a great start to the year for you. Hope all feel better v soon.
Beans yeah iPad saved me a lot in the morn! Then they started fighting over it so had to confiscate. This morning they got up and didn't bother usShock! Heard them get their milk then drink it together in dds bed then ds gave dd a lesson in going to the toilet and washing her hands with enormous amounts of soap it appears!
Helicopter crash looks awful. Happened just near my friends flat. He has already had 2 cars through his living room in middle of the night and now this down the road!
Am freezing. Had to crack ice on dogs water. Better move it inside.
Sinus and eye infection have been better for awhile now thanks lady (since before that trip on Sat) kept up drops incase but def all fine now.
Yes I will be free with the kids on either day (I think) of next weekend so could come over if you're free at some point?

Vagolajahooli · 16/01/2013 10:08

Hello ladies. Gosh we have gotten chatty lately.

On Kirstie hadn't really thought if I like her or not, but I liked what she came up with on LLL. With NCT I think it's biggest problem is it doesn't seem to be consistent. The BfN which I did my breastfeeding training with is actually sn organisation which was formed as a break away from the NCT because they didn't like the way the NCT as an organisation delt with infant feeding. I do think the NCT is trying, they are improving their training etc. But I think they need to decide if they are giving information or advice? Fact or opinion.

Lady, a midwife led birth is a long way from what you would want but you are very much probirthing choice so I imagine that is why you have taken an interest in the closure of the unit. I surprised some friends by being supportive of the NICE inclusion of CS as a birthing choice. But my reason is that it is pro choice and in some cases a women's reasons for this choice can be explored, & if necessary counseling offered. I think if this had been explored with my SIL she would still have had a CSbut she wouldn't have freaked out on the table like she did. In the same way that I would have quite liked someone to help with my hospital & surgery phobia. I still would have chosen the birth method I did, but I think I would have had a more relaxed birth for DS1. Though my midwives did a pretty good job.

McKayz · 16/01/2013 10:09

Just wanted to check none of you are in London near that horrible crash?

Indith · 16/01/2013 10:13

argh. The teething grump has just stopped screaming at me and fallen asleep. I dare not move but I can't reach the TV remote or my kindle and the s un is streaming in through the window into my eyes and I can't see the computer screen clearly so I need to close the curtain!

Vagolajahooli · 16/01/2013 10:15

Sorry I have to post as I thought I was going to lose the post.

Kayz how is your mum, she must be shattered to lose her friend?

I'm glad to see I'm not the only craft averse. Does anyone else have friends who keep posting craft stuff on FB?

We are completely covered in snow here. We had about a foot and a half of snow the night before last. The school run has turned into a workout. It is a sunny today and the boys have a half day so will see if we can go sledging.

I got into the Masters course I applied for, so from 25th February I'll be in here procrastinating.

Wow how about that helicopter crash.

Vagolajahooli · 16/01/2013 10:18

Wish I could pass you the remote Indith.

Hi Kayz. Im not sure who lives near there. CNN is reporting it like it is in trafalgar square and has bought the city to a standstill. Thank goodness we are changing our TV provider and will be able to get some different news channels soon.

McKayz · 16/01/2013 10:23

Mum is feeling okish. Her friend had been very ill for quite a while now so in a way she's happy she's not suffering anymore. She's going to go down when they have the funeral. I'm hoping to go too.

I am the odd one out. I love crafty stuff, been making some jewellery recently. I find it very relaxing.

McKayz · 16/01/2013 10:26

Vag, sky news says its in Vauxhall near Waterloo station. I wasn't too sure if Arti would be nearby at the clinic or going to work.
