As a few of us have popped early I thought I'd start us a post-natal thread.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MarasmeAbsolu · 20/02/2013 07:57

Ppoooooooo at last!
What is this? Day 6 maybe!?

Should be a better day :)

Birdies · 20/02/2013 09:49

Thanks bugsy. I've decided I don't like health visitors and their stupid tape measures.

So, Xanthe slept 5 hours in a row last night! I got the first 4 hours in a row sleep. It went a bit downhill after that but still, I'm pleased. Actually had I not picked her up at the first little noise she might have slept longer (what an idiot). And for the first time one of my boobs was spraying milk like bunty's!

Anyways, I've finished reading a book called 'baby secrets' that someone recommened and am going to try to follow one of their routines. Basically will make sure she's awake at least one hour out of every 3 and always put her down for a sleep drowsy but awake (actually I do that at night and its so sweet watching her fall asleep, but in the day I've still got her in the carrier so that's going to be harder to fix). And only feed every 3 hours rather than in bits.

Waffle waffle,

hope everyone's ok

BuntyCollocks · 20/02/2013 10:34

birdies hv are sent to try us :) Cameron has a ridiculously large head - 91st centile at birth, whereas the rest of her was 75th for length and 50th for weight. I bet yours has measured it wrong, or she's just catching up to where she should have been.

I have the book (and app!) for the wonder weeks, and at 5 weeks or so there's a big developmental leap, which also leads to a growth in head circumference. Fret not!

Cameron much more settled today so far - was up at 2:45 and 6:45 for feeds, went down at 10:45 last night so we're getting nice blocks of sleep after yesterday's feed frenzy. She's not been awake for any length of time today, though. She went straight back to sleep after this mornings feed and nappy change, and is still snoozing. Am making the most of it, sacking off the planned mums without tums (would have had to have left now), and cuddled in bed.

Fingers crossed for a better day! Hope everyone is well, and congrats on the poo, marasme

I'm now being summoned - spoke too soon!

Birdies · 20/02/2013 10:59

Thanks bunty. X's is about 91st centile now too, body about 25th (weight was 9th at birth and hc was btwn 25th and 50th). But actually her head looks completely in proportion to her body. It sticks out a bit at the back rather than being big and round (is like mine!). I guess as body grew so much though then wouldn't be odd for hc to go up the centiles too.

I have a bf question! My boobs are normally totally squishy but as X has put on weight I wasn't worried. She went longer between feeds though last night and now both are a bit painful and slightly hard (and one is enormous). Do I wait for the next feed or express? I've been avoiding expressing as frankly couldn't be bothered with all the sterilising etc, but now wonder if I should. What do you think?

BuntyCollocks · 20/02/2013 11:40

If you express you're sending the message that the extra milk is needed, so it's a bit of a vicious cycle! Express for relief, they'll keep making the milk, leave it and they'll hurt for a couple of days until your body catches up. Maybe just hand express a little bit for relief?

mrsbugsywugsy · 20/02/2013 12:16

birdies i express every day, and freeze my milk so that I can leave DD with DP sometimes. I only get an ounce or so at a time though, and she needs about 5 for a feed.

mrsbugsywugsy · 20/02/2013 12:21

My boobs are only usually hardin the mornings if DD has slept for a long stretch. The one time i left her with DP they were massive i had to express too and chuck the milk cause I'd had a drink or three

mrsbugsywugsy · 20/02/2013 13:07

Bad mother alert....

last night I sterilised Dd's dummies by putting them in a bowl of just boiled water. This morning there was still one in there so I took it out and gave it to her. Just now I walked into the living room and caught the cat drinking out of the same bowl. Given that the cat spent the night in the living room, she was almost certainly drinking out of it last night too, so I have given my baby a dummy infused with cat saliva.

Oh well, hopefully this means DD is going to grow up with a good immune system Grin

Lora1982 · 20/02/2013 17:05

Really nervous about the hospital tomorrow cos i know how painfull it will be and then ontop of the pain they left me with since monday. Plus im taking dexter with me. I cant even feed him properly without pain because its not just my boob that kills its the armpit and all down my arm!! Im a right moany cow arent i?!? Even clothes touching the boob hurt!! U should see it, it looks proper deformed. Ive resorted to using deep heat ffs

CreepyCrawly · 20/02/2013 17:14

I hope it goes better than last time Lora. You're not a moany cow at all, I can't imagine the discomfort you must be in. I don't think I'd be able to function if it were me.

My little madam has been awake all day today, and feeding every hour. She's just dropping off now, but DH is home at 6 which means bath time so I think I'm going to have a grumpy baby this evening!

Does anyone else play the 'keep baby's hands away from the nipple' game? It's much more fun than 'put the socks on the baby' game!

Pascha · 20/02/2013 17:29

Lora I really hope they sort it for you once and for all tomorrow. I feel very sorry for you.

I play that game several million times a day Creepy Grin but he does like socks so that one's ok.

Birdies my boobs tend to be be explosive and rock hard around 4am and Dan finds it quite difficult to latch then, also my sleep bra/sheet/pillowcase tends to get soaked too. I quite often end up finishing the night with all my clothes shed and a big towel wrapped around me to soak it all up. After the first feed of the day my boobs are squishy and not very leaky though.

Pascha · 20/02/2013 17:31

Just reread your post creepy. Daniel is exactly the same today, feeding hourly and grumpy when awake. I have stalled it for now by putting him in the sling so I can eat with DS1 but when he wakes in about half an hour I feel we are in for a huge cluster feed and a rubbish night.

Pascha · 20/02/2013 17:32

Oh yes and I also combat bullet boobs in the morning by getting ds1 (2.5) to hoover up one breast. He has such a strong suck its a blessed relief to get rid of lots of milk in one go instead of the relatively gentle sucks of DS2.

Birdies · 20/02/2013 17:34

lora that does sound awful. You are very brave!

creepy have you tried undoing bodysuit and rolling the front of it up over arms. It works a treat to keep them out of the way, although most of the time I can't be bothered to do it.

I accidentally expressed in the end - boob started firing everywhere again, it's quite fascinating to watch.....but DH finds it a bit strange - like looking at a cows udder pouring out milk Shock

octanegirl · 20/02/2013 20:48

I'm trying to watch the Brit Awards but LO has been screaming since 6.45. His eyes half close and he fights it! Why baby, why?!

theboutiquemummy · 20/02/2013 21:11

Octane know that one well Hmm

Non lo question how long did you wait before normal service ( rudies ) resumed post CS and scared about it all x

octanegirl · 20/02/2013 21:23

I did it at 3 weeks. Scar didn't hurt but I felt quite tense inside. He had to go slowly!

BuntyCollocks · 20/02/2013 22:00

Valentines day ;) 6 and a bit weeks.

Pascha · 20/02/2013 22:05

Postnatal check tomorrow. I'm waiting for that as I haven't sorted contraception out yet.

tinkletinklestar · 20/02/2013 22:18

Hello all. Not been back for a while

Things are still pretty awful here, dd is being put on a new milk, the peads think that she has a lactose intolerance as well as the silent reflux. Waiting for the pharmacy to get it in so we can use that with the omoprozole.

I also am poorly. .I ended up in a&e last night in agony, turns out my csection is not healing on the insides, the drs told me strict rest and if im still in so much pain in 2 weeks to go to my gp as I may need surgery to sort it out. Not good feeling like shite!

Lostbobbles · 21/02/2013 01:32

Gosh Tinkle you really are going through it, bless you.Hope milk makes a difference and that you get on the mend and manage to avoid surgery. Hmm

As for rudies here, I am starved and desperate to get intimacy back but really petrified as still get some stinging where stitches were and think I have a prolapse (but it makes me feel sick so im avoiding thinking about it) going to wait until 6 week check ( which will actually be 7) feel like we are ships in the night at mo. Sad

happyhow · 21/02/2013 04:54

I'm waiting for 6 week check (although will be 8.5wks when I get it as drs combine all the checks with the first immunisations here) so that I can have contraception sorted although really want to do it before then! Might just have to convince hubby to deal with the contraception for once! Smile

On the bullet boobs - we fed B with an expressed bottle last night and I didn't express by mistake so cue rock hard and very sore boobs at 2.30am which had begun leaking all over the place! If it wasn't for it being a ridiculous time of day, I'd go express now - would get a tonne of milk for the freezer!

I did a comical spray of milk over B's face yesterday - the poor thing didn't know what was happening and I was laughing too much to sort it out!! Grin

Tugs - hang in there. I had a friend going through exactly the same with her daughter and once they got the right milk, life was totally different. Unfortunately it just takes time to get to that point. Also, take it easy and hopefully you can avoid more surgery. Thanks

lollipoppi · 21/02/2013 07:57

Aw tinkle I'm so sorry your going through all that Sad
Just know that once they have her on the right meds/milk things will improve.
Fingers crossed you dont need surgery!

No rudies in this house yet, DP is GAGGING!! I however am not, he has gone out the house in a mood with me this morn as he was all over me like a rash and I snapped at him (been up all night and also am so not ready it's only 4weeks post horrific birth) he isn't pressuring me into anything he just wants a bit of closeness but I keep pushing him away as I'm so nervous about everything!

DD is still full of a cold bless her, she is really stuffed up, and completely miserable

Pascha · 21/02/2013 08:05

Tinkle Poor you, sounds crap all around. Do they think the scar is infected? My friend's son was CMPI and he ended up on a milk called Pepti Jnr (I think). He wasn't allowed to try dairy products til after he was two, after that he was fine.

Postnatal check today. DS1 has gone to nanny Carole for the day with his cousins so its just me and Daniel right now. I wish my surgery combined all the checks in one, juggling child care and other things is a pain at the best of times. I used to work in a surgery that did the same thing. Much more sensible.

My own surgery, on the other hand, does postnatal check at 6 weeks with the nurse, then demands I attend a babyweighing clinic somewhere in the week before the baby's 8 week check because the HV budget has been cut and they don't come out to the home anymore after the first visit unless clinically necessary. So I have to attend 3 appointments instead of one.

I might have to have a little moan about that this morning actually.

CreepyCrawly · 21/02/2013 08:50

Good luck today Lora.

After Nancy not sleeping at all yesterday until 2:30am, she woke up at 7:30, had a ridiculously short feed and is now fast asleep in her crib. Why can't she do that in the evening.

I don't care that its 9am, I'm going back to bed!
