I went with Gary's suggestion, as it was quite awesome and indeed factual!

:o

Onwards?

SAHM next scan is on the 23rd so will hopefully find out then. DH is certain its a girl, I really don't know. In a way I'd like a girl as I think it would be nice for DD with a small age gap, though I guess she'd be lucky having 2 brothers to look out for her when she's older, and DS wants a brother.

Our house was a state when we bought it, it even had fleas, beat that :o. Every piece of DIY that had been done on it was bodged, even down to stupid things like light switches being upside down Hmm. What was a good sized kitchen had been turned into a dining room, but they'd knocked through into an attached brick built shed and made it into the kitchen without bothering to insulate it. So we have a four bedroom house with a tiny freezing kitchen, hence the garage conversion.

Another one who's DH likes love actually.

OiMissus · 05/01/2013 10:53

figgy I agree. No afternoon nap = much better night time sleep. The last 2 nights, he has stayed in his cot, and slept through. -ok, he didn't go to sleep until 9:45pm on the first night, so it wasn't a complete success, but last night we got 7:40pm - 6:40am. (6:30-6:40 is when I get him ready for nursery/GPS during the week so that's ok.)

The first tree surgeon quote (second round) was £460. It's £100 down from the last quote, so we're going in the right direction at least. Hmm

OiMissus · 05/01/2013 11:05

Question: how are your lo's at eating with spoons/forks?
BOi can, but prefers his hands/fingers, and it goes everywhere. He prefers it much more when I feed him.
(Apart from solid bits, like sandwiches, veggie batons etc., that he's good at with his hands and I don't intervene at all.)
I've just had his assessment form from nursery. In all development stages he's doing really well, but in the bit that says "what to work on at home", it says encourage him to feed himself with a spoon. - Probably because its easier for them.

In other news, the lady at Clarks says, as he's walking, he has to have proper shoes now, so we picked up 2 pairs in the sale for £29. Total!
Today, the tree comes down. It's looking a bit droopy, it is time.Smile

MissRee · 05/01/2013 11:21

I tend to give Freya a fork rather than spoon with her dinner. She's getting quite good at stabbing and picking up food... but then picks it off with her fingers to eat! She can dip and eat things like yoghurt. I'm not worried about cutlery just yet but it's something we will work on at some point. It's something we need to work on with DSS too - he's 7 and can't use a knife and fork because his diet at home consists of finger food only

SevenReasonsToSmile · 05/01/2013 11:21

oi Eva has no interest in feeding herself with a spoon, never has done. In fact she's now gone off spoons completely and won't let me spoon feed her either, we're surviving mostly off pasta, toast, bananas and fish fingers Hmm

We shan't bother with proper shoes until the spring. She has soft leather ones for when we're out but indoors, I don't let her walk outside as its so wet and muddy here and though she constantly walks now she still falls over and I don't really want her landing in puddles.

NorthernChinchilla · 05/01/2013 11:27

We're getting there Oi. If you pass DS a loaded fork/spoon, he'll feed himself; obviously he can do sandwiches (and if only! on the veggie batons, he won't touch any 'wet' food at the moment Hmm so any fruit, veg, open sandwich, etc, gets flung to floor with a look of total disgust); and now at the end of a meal I'm passing the spoon or fork to DS so he can practise getting the stuff up and into his mouth himself.
He generally manages a bit, but funniest thing in the world is 'feeding mummy' game Grin. I reckon it'll take a couple of months until he's even vaguely proficient, at the moment it's just for fun.

Glad to hear DD is progressing towards wellness faffin, sounds like you've a real time of it.
And that is crap care from the midwives- it sounds frankly dangerous that she was allowed to go so far with such an enormous baby; she obviously was OK in the end, but it sounds like it was a high risk situation. And that nonsense about 'keeping up with demand'...how do they think people manage exclusively bf'ing six month olds then Confused? If she wants to it's probably not too late to introduce bf, if she gets good help.

OiMissus · 05/01/2013 11:47

Ah yes, the "feeding mummy" game, only slightly less interesting than "feeding myself anything I want off mummy's plate" game. Confused

OiMissus · 05/01/2013 12:01

Tiling quote 100quid less than last quote, and he said he'd pull out the basin and toilet to tile under nicely rather than cut around. Sounds fab to me! Grin
We is winnin'!

FestiveFiggy · 05/01/2013 13:28

oi I was going to ask same question DS eats everything going he eats fruit, sandwiches, snacks by hand then now wants to not only feed himself with spoons he wants the bowl to load them himself as I clearly aren't efficient enough. My friend laughs that he just opens his mouth like a python trying to devour a deer he will open his mouth wide and just wait for u to chick it down the chute I swear he doesn't even swallow Grin

Just been for walk to shops out for a good couple hours didn't buy anything for me and foolishly another bag of balls for DS ballpit. DS is now asleep in his pushchair which is by the back door dh wanted to leave it outside with him in it.......it's bloody January man Angry
We r now officially dechristmassed and so the House looks very Sad

SparklyandHappyMe2013 · 05/01/2013 17:30

Sky can use a spoon but chooses not to! Would rather use her hands.

My girls have been bathed and Sky is now in bed after a bottle & some calpol - hoping she doesn't up chuck her mince & mash dinner!

Darcie is upstairs playing whilst I have a bath and then sort tea out us. Then bedtime for her and DH & I are going to watch Splash on ITV!

We have had CITV on all day watching Old Skool kids TV - better than the crap they watch nowadays.

EasilyBored · 05/01/2013 17:38

Caspar will just about feed himself with a loaded spoon, but Oh.My.God the mess. I can't quite cope with that just yet. He's suddenly got a lot better with eating, he's never been fussy, but he just used to eat hardly anything at all. Saying that, he refused his dinner tonight, so had a peanut butter sandwich and a yoghurt for dinner. You win some you lose some!

SAHM hope S feels better soon.

FestiveFiggy · 05/01/2013 17:58

Oh god I think I fancy andy from cbeebies Confused

SevenReasonsToSmile · 05/01/2013 18:14

figgy glad it's not just me, and Mr Bloom could certainly come and look after my vegetables :o

SparklyandHappyMe2013 · 05/01/2013 18:34

You can't beat Funhouse, Finders Keepers, Art Attack, Raggy Dolls, Fraggle Rock, Sooty, etc Grin

OiMissus · 05/01/2013 19:03

I fear for you seven! Mr Bloom??!? Ha ha ha!
Is Andy the tall, curly one?
Either way, WRONG!

FestiveFiggy · 05/01/2013 19:20

Maybe seven has those pg hormones to blame I'm not so lucky Blush

OiMissus · 05/01/2013 20:21

He looks like Fatima Whitbread (andy). ...I can't see the attraction, I'm afraid!

CheungFun · 05/01/2013 20:54

DS will take a loaded spoon from me and feed himself, but he's not up to loading it himself yet.

DS has also taken his first few steps and takes a couple of steps unaided once a day, but he's not convinced that walking unaided is a good idea! He is walking along holding mine or Dh's hand though which was seriously cute in the supermarket earlier

NorthernChinchilla · 05/01/2013 21:27

Yup Oi, one of our nicknames for DS is 'petit ponce', as you cannot eat anything in front of him without him standing between your legs and howling/demanding/reaching up and grabbing whatever it is...

And I SOOOOOOOOOOOO agree SAHM, those programmes are brilliant! I'll be singing '...dolls like you and me' for ages now Grin

Not been a great day here, been very pissed off with DP- to sum up, the problem is that he still believes, and acts like, he was 21 in some ways. Which was fine when we were that age, but not any more. Had to have a few uncomfortable conversations with him today, and seeing as we were meant to be out shopping for my Xmas present it kinda ruined the day.
It's not helped by him being a slob because his mother did everything for him and his siblings, and tries to continue to do so...
Sigh.

Watching Prometheus now, will see if I actually understand it...

GaryBuseysTeeth · 05/01/2013 22:08

Fun House, Finders Keepers & Knightmare in the same place...Huxley Pig & Jungle Run tomorrow! love CITV this weekend.

Oi, omg...yes Fatima Whitbread!! I've been looking at Andy recently wondering who he reminds me of.

DS refuses to be spoon fed by us most days, he can sort of do it himself but prefers to dig in with his shovel-esque hands.

for OH Northen, hope tomorrow is better for you.
Enjoy your night in Cheung, we've both made lists of 'things to do before next one arrives & we have zero life'...a DH/DS free weekend is pretty high on my list Grin

My 11-14wk scan day arrived today, it's this Thursday, I'll be 9&some wks. Hmm
Don't think the doctor trusted my private scan info?!
Will have to try & get them to push it back a few weeks, DS is finally booked in for his MMR, DH has taken the day off so we can tag team the screaming banshee if he reacts to it.

What other nicknames does everyone have for their DC's?
Love Petit Ponce!

ChristmasIsForPlutocrats · 06/01/2013 00:23

Hi, all. little creatures abed, as am I, after DH took DS off to see Walking with Dinosaurs at the O2 and I took DD shopping in Greenwich as I desperately needed a new wallet. DD got to bed fairly early (though has commanded my presence s few times since), so I was able to have a shower while DS bathed, and kept him entertained by squashing kisses at him through the shower glass, progressing to a moonie, which he loved Grin. Lots of stories, then left him to cuddles with daddy while I had the usual yoyo evening.

By the way, I'm shocked to see the start of a new generation of CBeebies mummy crushes! Don't you know how many other MNers you will end up fighting for Andy and Mr Bloom and Sid and Confused Chris?! Strangely, no-one ever fancies Alex, which I suppose is just as well as he's married and yet seems to keep flirting with Katie (I once saw goosing!). I'm rather glad DS has gravitated to Abney & Teal on the iplayer (so no more presenters doing linky bits!) - no sexual tendion there!

ChristmasIsForPlutocrats · 06/01/2013 00:25

Tension

FestiveFiggy · 06/01/2013 08:20

plu did your dh and DS enjoy walking with dinosaurs we r going in April as dh is a dino nut thought I'd take him for his Xmas present.

SevenReasonsToSmile · 06/01/2013 10:24

gary if you have the scan anyway and it (inevitably) turns out to be too early you might get to have an extra one. That's incredibly short notice getting the date for it though. Do you want the nuchal scan? I know that's meant to be done between 11-14, but otherwise 9 weeks might not be too early for your scan.

DSM thanks for the info about CITV, we don't normally watch it as DS prefers CBeebies to the usual CITV rubbish, I noticed that rainbow is on later, followed by button moon which we already have on DVD.

Sorry it's not just pregnancy hormones, Mr Bloom is hot and if you search you'll find many MN threads and a guardian article (I can link if anyone wants to see it!) agreeing with me.

Eva is my little oinklet as she eats everything in sight, if she sees anyone eating she points and squeals until she gets some. DS calls her Miss Baby which is quite cute. She won't walk holding hands, she refuses to move so you have to drag her along Hmm. I guess we'll be getting reins as soon as she starts walking outside.

Does anyone have any exciting plans today? I need to hang the washing out then I shall be mostly tidying up, I've so much to do to sort out the new nursery, the rest of the house isn't looking much better either.

mopsytop · 06/01/2013 11:02

Minimopsy isn't v good with feeding herself from a spoon yet. She likes to try but makes a huge mess! She is great now at feeding herself sandwiches, veggies, fruit, meatballs, fishfingers etc. Is great. Messy but she loves it!!

I am making baklava. Yum! So so nice to have time to bake and hang out after months and months of working at the weekend!
